A few days later Hailey, Jacques, and Emma are sitting in one of the park areas of Mezagoza, enjoying food from one of the nearby food stands.
Jacques gets up from the bench they were sitting on and looks around.
“What’s the matter?” Hailey asked.
“I feel like we are being watched.” He replied. His scarf twitched a little.
Meanwhile, Penny, Nemona, Florian, and Arven are spying on them from across the plaza from behind a building. “Aw crap, I think that guy saw us.” Penny says, as she adjusts her glasses.
The blond woman that they had been spying on is talking to the brown haired man who had seen them. He points to where they were hiding. She looks over her shoulder at them, and she flashes a smile and a wave at them.
“Now she definitely saw us.” Penny says.
“Why are we spying on the lady who came to meet with Mr. Jacq at the academy the other day, always?” Arven asked.
“Shhh!” Penny whisper yelled.
Nemona waves back at her, and holds up her Pokémon gesturing for a battle.
“NEM!” Florian whisper yelled at her.
The man in the scarf sighed as the blond lady shrugged and continued eating her lunch. The man in the scarf left the other two, and disappeared behind the park’s fountain.
“You can’t just shake a pokeball and ask for a battle!” Florian exclaimed.
“Why not?” Nemona asked.
“She’s probably got super strong Pokémon! She was on tv the other day fighting a match against Geeta.” Penny informed them.
“That’s even better!” Nemona’s eyes lit up.
“You were definitely That kid who got kidnapped by a guy in a van who said he’s got candy as a kid.” Arven replied.
They were too busy arguing to hear Jacques approaching them from behind.
“Are you the ones who have been spying on us?” He accused them.
The four kids let out a scream.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you.” Jacques apologized, putting his hands out in front of him and taking a step back. His eyes gleamed with a ghostly blue energy for a fraction of a second.
“But I’ll ask you again. What business do you have spying on us?” He asks, his formal tone serious.
Nemona gave a nervous smile and shook the pokeball in her hand again. “Pokémon battle?” She asked.
The man’s demeanor softened.
“That’s all? I’m sure My Lady will very much like that.” He considered.

Remember the theory on how ScaVio might potentially have impact on Legends Arceus and how the mainline series treats time travel? Yeah, scratch that in large parts.
BECAUSE THERE IS NO TIME MACHINE IN SCARLET AND VIOLET
The mysterious pokemon described in the Scarlet Book/ Violet Book... it makes "imagination" a "reality." The weird pokemon sketched in the book, the photos of the approximated paradox pokemon - they are all built on the imagination of the expedition team Heath was in. They are a reflection of what these people expected to find in the depths of the Paldean Crater. The Legendary Pokemon on the hexagonal layers is likely building not just pokemon but items, technology out of the Tera Crystals based on what the people in its vicinity imagine.
The team envisioned to find strange creatures. Fusions of legendary pokemon of Johto's legendary dogs, or Unova's Swords of Justice. In Scarlet, the expectation seems to have been to find prehistoric pokemon - preserved in the crator without human interference. In Violet, the expectation may have been shaped by the evolution of mankind and its technology - to find traces of a civilization far more advanced than our own with pokemon evolved to fit that image.
And the artist accompanying the expedition even skeched out some of the pokemon they thought they saw or dreamed up in a haze. And THOSE SKETCHES are what would later shape the imagination of the people entering the crator. The very documentation of the Area Zero shaped how humans would continue to perceive it. And it shaped Sada's and Turo's image of what the far past or the far future might look like. An "image" that would become "reality." (Even Arven mentions how farfetched the Books descriptions sound, and how his parents seemed to have basically made this fairytale real)
I cannot yet tell why the Crystalline Legendary mentioned in those books would do that, though. Maybe it was originally a defense mechanism that was supposed to keep stuff away. Let people and pokemon imagine their fears in order to protect itself. Something that failed over time as mankind advances in technology and science, so it switched strategies to keep itself save.
Maybe the Legendary is trying to lure people/pokemon/whatever to themself - like an anglerfish dangling light in the dark ocean depths, a promise of treasure greater than your wildest dreams.
Whatever the reason is, what we know for certain is that it worked on Sada/Turo.
And the legendary pokemon began more and more to shape and create from the specific reasearch the professors conducted.
In the end, the "time machine" they built is no time machine. It is a machine that makes imagination "reality" (possibly powered by the legendary pokemon in some capacity). Maybe the machine even got constructed by the crystal pokemon bc hallelujah how do you get that much construction done in a literal Made in Abyss eldritch mystery crater without all the world knowing what you are doing. Or heck maybe the machine did somehow get constructed, but it worked more like an amplifier for the Legendary Pokemon's powers.
Either way, it explains why people would not be able to "return" from the "future/past". because the future/past as Turo/Sada imagined it does not exist.
That also explains why the AI Professor crystallizes in the final fight - they are a crystalline construction of imagination. They are Sada/Turo's ideal work partner - a copy of themselves. Something that knows exactly how the Professor thinks and acts. And when the protag squad tries to shut down the machine the illusion begins to fall apart.
It also means the Tera Crystal constructions like the doppelgangers, Miraidon/Koraidon, and all the other paradox pokemon can gain actual awareness, emotion, and sentience.
They are all the Professors' "Paradise" because that is how they imagined the prehistoric past/ far future to be:
Wilderness untamed and existence optimized.

I love pecharunt soo much..could u do headcanons for a poison type trainer caring for Pecharunt and Pecharunt loving his new trainer? (Reader gives Pecharunt a new loving home!) 🥺 Maybe some thoughts on the Paldea squad still not trusting Pecharunt (maybe sum jealous Arven bc reader is paying more attention to the pokemon instead of him.?)
Obviously, Pecharunt tried to stay closed-off after what happened between him and his original caretakers.
His quest to satisfy their ever-growing wishes soon led to tragedy..and he didn't wanna suffer through that again.
So after waking up he turns the whole town of Mossui against you and your friends, not wanting to let anyone in.
But in his eyes you seemed determined to make him feel as miserable as possible..especially as you sent Okidogi, Fezandpiti, and/or Munkidori against him after defeating Nemona.
The betrayal stung, seeing his former friends who died to protect him from Ogerpon now siding with humans and attacking him.
After being caught and lifting the town's "curse", he feels humbled, hiding away in his shell even as you introduce him to the rest of your team:
One made of poison types.
Although most of them looked scary and seemed difficult to care for, you learned how to tend to their needs without getting yourself hurt by their toxins, and that made your bonds with them grow stronger by the day.
You hoped to achieve something similar with Pecharunt, knowing it'll be a challenge but willing to try.
He was reclusive around your party members, but not you.
In fact, he quickly grew to love having you as his trainer, yet he was convinced that making mochi was the only way to secure that connection with you--and that if he couldn't win every battle, you'd think he was weak and abandon him.
But you knew that 8x weakness of his would be a problem, and even with an impressive defense..losses were inevitable, and you'd have to calm him down whenever he throws a fit over losing or if you refuse to send him into a fight you knew he won't win.
You eventually learn his story (and why the Loyal Three meant so much to him) through some old texts Kieran's grandparents lent you, and after reading them you just give him a hug and say "I'm sorry."
That's all you said.
It was so simple, yet enough to make Pecharunt cry and realize you would unconditionally love him and give him a permanent home. No mochi necessary. He had nothing to fear.
Of course, though, even after you share all of this and his growth with your Paldean friends, they still warn you to be careful around him.
Arven was more upset about being forced to do a stupid dance than being forced to battle you, still giving the mythical 'mon the cold shoulder every time he sees you two hanging around.
"You embarrassed me in front of my best friend..don't think I'll forget that." He always remarks while Mabosstiff gives him the side eye(tm).
You, however, know he's just getting jealous of you giving more attention to some Pokémon (like a certain legendary dragon) than him and tease him about it.
Of course, Pecharunt is still up to his mischievous ways: he'll mess around with Arven by snuggling up to you, sneaking mochi into his sandwiches, and just being a little shit in general.
Are you fully aware of this? Yes.
Will you stop it? Probably not. It's amusing.

Things had been unusually quiet on Giacomo's end for a few months now. Despite his music career finally kicking off successfully, he'd made very little public appearances unless they were directly related to a show he was DJing, or if he was invited out by his friends.
Truthfully, he had been spending a great deal of time with the Segin Squad, and the rest of Team Star's groups, hyperanalyzing the strange activity happening in Paldea, and scrutinizing the way that the region as a whole had been operating. After their stint with hacking into the Paldean league, and getting away with it for some time, numerous teenagers affiliated with the rag tag street gang had dipped back into the habit out of breaking through firewalls and sneaking into various government progreams, out of a need for uncovering what was being kept from everybody.
Paldea was extremely crippled; people continued to leave the region, and security around the crater had been increasing-- while money was being funneled into this tightened security, there were still sightings of strange people occupying the entrance in Medali. Not to mention, the vacancies in certain important seats made it difficult for Paldea to cater to the ever-restless population. The actual breaking point for Giacomo, however, was the disappearance of Cereza-- nothing was done by any of the adults to address it.
Giacomo himself had been growing frustrated with how things were being ran-- and three years of criticism needed to be let out. If nobody was going to do anything, then, he was going to give a voice to his peers who were rightfully skeptical.
In the morning hours, the algorithms of several popular social media apps was throwing one reel up onto the top of everybody's feeds: it displayed a QR code, with music produced by DJ Vice playing in the background. It looped after 10 seconds. This reel would appear to anybody who's GPS had clocked them in Paldea over the past few months.
If one scanned the code, it would send them to a website, with a statement in bold letters:
Paldea Is Censoring Me
DJ VICE HERE.
My fans know that my latest songs speaking up about how things are ran in this town have been buried under the algorithm, and censored on the radio.
Stuff is happening right in our backyard, and the people in charge aren't telling us the truth. Me and my squad have proof that things are being covered up. If nothing was being kept a secret, they wouldn't be working so hard to censor me, and keep us away from the crater.
They're not gonna listen to me, or any of us! So we're gonna MAKE them listen!!!!
We're gonna demand that Paldea divert more money into supporting its citizens, instead of covering up their secrets. Then we're gonna force them to hear our greavances. A clean sweep of all the teachers after Team Star rioted was a distraction to keep us from doing more. Enough is enough.
Join us outside of the academy on October 1st, we're gonna block all the entrances for a protest, and get our voices heard. And if that doesn't work, we'll Star Barrage 'em like we've always done!!!!

G'day good people of all regions far and wide! Let me introduce myself: My name is Richard (he/him), 62 years of age and veteran Pokémon-Ranger.
I lead a squad of 6 rangers belonging to the Interregional Emergency Force. I know this does indeed sound very concerning, but the name is simply misleading. We rarely handle real emergencies, even more rare are situations that affect the world on a global scale, as you probably know. It simply means we are called to various Ranger bases in all the regions should they need an extra pair of hands, or a dozen.
Since i might be mentioning them, my teammembers are:

Valeri (she/her), Field Ranger, rank 6
Joseph (he/they), Field Ranger rank 5
Otto (he/him), Ranger-Scout, rank 6
Elias (he/him), technically Field Ranger, specialised in veterinarian works, rank 3 (He really deserves a rank up to 5 at least, but the HQs are all hesitant since he often "just" tends to wounded Pokémon. This Bunch of pricks have no idea of field work. No, no, don't listen to the rank 10 squad leader, you know better of course.)
Athena (she/her), specialised in battling, rank 8

Henlo, back at it again! While thinking about some stuff, here's what i imagined for this AU for the Area Zero Squad:
- Nemona: Were-Lycanroc, a rather big monster with Nemona's battle love cranked up to 11. Once aggressive to everyone and everything with an impressive will to fight, gets "tamed" after the protag defeats her and gets recognized. Now less bloodthirsty and a big puppy (at least to her friends), although still wants to challenge everyone... Nemona doesn't know she exists.
Arven: Were-Skwovet, calmer than Nemona's Alter Ego, and usually won't attack... unless you have bad intentions or you look at Mabosstif funny. He's *really* protective of him. Can be found around Paldea stealing Berries and other food, although no-one knows what for...Arven knows of his existence, due to somehow remembering his transformations.
Penny: Were-Glaceon, an incredibly reclusive and shy monster, she only attacks if her personal spaces are invaded. Becomes a bit more outgoing after Penny's storyline, although only with her friends. Her Vees see her as a sort-of kin, for obvious reasons (and they aren't in danger). Penny knows of her existence, not because she remembers her transformations, but for other clues around her room (I mean, if i woke up with ruined clothes, a slight coat of ice on the walls and pawprints around the floor, I would have a few doubts)
The protagonist can be what you want, there's no specific mon for him/her!
Oh, and they're a pack, because it fits.
(Note: i still think that Arven's Mon is not the right one... any ideas?)
Drew the designs for Nemona and Penny!! Decided Nemona would be a dusk form Lycanroc bc Orange. Love all the stuff u wrote, I especially dig how some are aware they’re werewolves (awarewolves?) and others just have no idea. Makes for some really fun stories :3c. Didn’t draw Arven bc I can’t decide what he would be either. I’ll keep brainstorming!!!
Anyway some assorted headcanons:
- How animalistic u look is determined by how much tera energy ur normally in contact with. For people like Nemona who are constantly using a tera orb, their transformation is more dramatic. For someone like Penny, who rarely uses a tera orb and isn’t a paldean native (less access to environmental tera energy) the transformation is relatively mild. The professor? When they transform, it’s impossible to tell they were human at all
- Nemona hears about the terrifyingly strong beast in the forest and keeps going out to fight it, only to wake up on the ground all scratched up in the forest at sunrise. She starts to think the beast knows Hypnosis for its uncanny ability to put her to sleep. Somehow, despite the obvious connections, she never realizes she’s the beast in question
- Being a werewolf doesn’t change your personality or what you want, just your inhibitions and manners. Nemona always wanted to battle her heart out, but never could bc of various social conventions, so during her transformation all that pent up energy is released and she just goes bonkers. Penny transforms and no one knows bc she still never leaves her room
- Penny sets up a camera after the first transformation because she’s shocked a Glaceon so large could wreck her room without waking her up. When it happens a second time after the next full moon, she now has video evidence— only to realize it’s HER. She initially panics, then realizes all she does is eat leftover pizza right out of the box and hide under the bed the whole time which is what she would do anyway if sleep deprived enough. She elects to just lock all her doors and windows and never tell anyone, since she’s unaware that werewolves are a Thing in paldea
- Whatever Arven is, Mabosstiff keeps him in check. Also now that I think about it, maybe Arven is an artificial werewolf? His parent tried to get him to be a werewolf on purpose so he could better adapt to “paradise”, so maybe he’s a Cyclizar? With the professors being the ‘raidons? in that case maybe Arven has different transformation rules and stuff. I’ll think abt it more
- No one except the protagonist and possibly a few trainers (Geeta, some of the professors?) know the beast attacking people in the forest is a werewolf. Nemona is fast and her transformation is pretty beastly looking anyway, so in the thick of battle everyone thinks she’s just a really big pokemon. It’s only people who manage to defeat her / tire her out that can slow her down enough to see that she has a humanoid shape and might be more than just a Very Large Dog
- I’m lame and love emotion based transformations, so I think the adults can control their shifting to various extents but the kids can’t. The more emotionally well adjusted you are, the easier time you have controlling yourself, to the point where some adults even have control over their shifting during full moon nights

“These researchers suggest that the same energy was tracked to the home of a Paldean citizen, who chased them off, and at the same time, the enormous energy suddenly vanished.”
“I’m Reporter Cara, and that’s your daily Double Shock, onto some new updates regarding the story regarding the secrets of the Terastal Phenomenon.”

Area Zero: A New Frontier in Pokémon Justice.
Since our Paldean base was completed and operations began earlier this month, we were advised by the Paldean Government that Area Zero was by far the most pressing issue surrounding poaching in this region. As a joint operation, I joined government rangers in entering Area Zero for a night in order to get a full grasp of what it is we are protecting here.
As a professional, of course I was looking through this area analytically and thoughtfully to find ways in which we could help assist these pokemon… as a person, however, it was one of the greatest joys of my life to witness the now named ‘Paradox Pokémon’ and their habitat.
So here’s the situation and where we are at; we will be sending in a small squad with the assistance of the Paldean Government to effectively live in Area Zero. They will be routinely swapped out in shifts and we will be closely communicating with them. Their job will be to install [classified] equipment for detection and defence purposes whilst caring for the pokemon in Area Zero in any ways necessary. We will not, however, interfere in their day to day lives. They’ll mostly be administering medical care as needed.
Poachers found in Area Zero will be met with extreme force and will be considered a danger to the lives of our staff and the lives of the Pokémon within Area Zero.
We feel very honoured to get to protect this beautiful location and we will not let these Pokémon down. If you have any information about planned poaching strikes in Area Zero please let us know immediately.

My predictions for the Paldea squad at the beach party
Nemona: pulls out a fish Pokémon out of the water with her bare hands like it’s nothing
Penny: under the umbrella wrapped up in a towel binging her anime because she hates sunlight (even artificial)
Arven: bbq king (w/Crispin) and playing fetch with Mabosstiff on the sand

I love Xen so much!! Are you willing to share anything about her?
OMG HI... Xen's lore is still under development, but I'm more than happy to share the main events!!
She was born in Hoenn, in a family of people from Sinnoh's islands, her first Pokémon is a shiny electrike with whom she ran away from home the moment they had the opportunity, escaping the abusive household.
She was just a kid and got lost and exhausted quickly, luckily for her she was found by a Paldean geologist and his son, getting adopted
Soon enough she moves to Kalos with them for her new father's job which included mega-evolution researches. Xen's Manectric was used for researches and fell deadly ill after being exposed to overwhelming power of mega-evolutions, his body was taken for further researches. Her father was ignorant at best though her brother stayed close to her, comforting the poor kid and helping her to overcome the trauma. Xen was spending a lot of her time at Sycamore's lab - that's where her father was leaving her when she was too much to deal with. Sycamore was her inspo to become a pokemon professor/researcher.
Years flew by, Xen was sent to work to Alola, in Aether foundation. Lusamine became her new role model, Xen thought they had a lot of common and shared their desire to study and protect pokemon. Xen became a part of a type:null project, following Lusamine's guidance without questions until she became to realise how messed up everything is. Xen was blinded by her rage abd anger and confronted Lusamine openly, that led to Lusamine using an angered Null to attack Xen, almost killing her. Xen managed to escape and spent a lot of time recovering. She was shocked, betrayed, in pain, it was too much. She even tried to erase those memories using Beheeyem's powers, but ended up just damaging her brain slightly
In the end, she took her part in Ultra beast chaos, cooperating with the ultra recon squad and the police
She stil works at aether, pursuing it's original purposes, became the lead of the ultra beast researches. Also trying to find peace. Gladly, a specific ultra recon squad member is doing a good job at helping her with that

Like you wouldn't believe.... I swear it haven't ran around this much since I was part of Elita's squad.
I got a grant from an Unovan NGO (which I didn't think I was going to get since they took so long to give me an update) to study the effects of offshore oil drilling on deep-sea Pokémon. Which is great! But I ended up having to scramble because they needed me to use the money by the end of this year which, as you know, is coming up pretty quick. So I've been on research trips basically nonstop since mid-September. Lu is very happy about this. Spooks is not.
Also remember that shiny Skrelp I was rehabbing? She's friends with Lu now---they play in the ocean together a lot.

Greetings! Brandy is it, right? Curious, i already met another Pokémon Ranger Brandy on this website.
Regardless, i have an inquiry to make. Me and my squad are assigned to visit Paldea in a few weeks, and i don't want to bother with convoluted official Union communication during my leave, but i still want to know ahead of time.
The Paldean League is known to restrict pokémon species that can be used in battles or even brought to the region to protect the ecosystem and whatnot. Do you perhaps know if Ranger Partners are exempt from this by default, or do i have to fill out some forms to bring my Minun and Plusle to the region?

Oh wow hey! Aha, yeah, it's kind of a little in-joke for rangers on here to call themselves Brandy. Just being a little silly, you know? It is my real name though. Nice to meet ya ✌
And yeah, the rules around bringing in non-native mons are strict. Effective though - even just in my day-to-day, we see way fewer invasive species than I used to back in Hoenn. It's a pain in the ass, but it achieves its purpose for the most part.
We're trying to get rangers listed as "Trusted Travelers" so that we won't have to fill in as many forms, but that's still a work in progress. For now you are gonna have to go through the entire rigamarole. I've had to do it 3 times now though, happy to help the team out with the process if you need.
Super stoked to have you and your team helping out in Paldea! Heavens know we need it. You'll have to let me show you around Tagtree, my team has done an incredible job nurturing the old growth there. Would love to pick your brain about this mission I'm working too, if you have the time.
