Okay so you’re the author of twinanimatronics right? So you’re either @/paketdimension or @/dana-chan-the-control-brain , or am I wrong? I always see your posts on my dashboard and I’m just very confused about what’s going on tbh.
I’m @paketdimensioncomic / @cephalonghost (paket is a side blog, and so is this one) and the main writer of Twin Animatronics
Y’all can call me Ceph ^^
@dana-chan-the-control-brain is my good friend/coauthor (in terms of plotting things) and beta reader.
But Dana is also the main/head writer for Lofi Beats (the Twins prequel fic) that I help beta and plot on in the same way she helps me with Twin Animatronics
So there’s two people behind the scenes here ^^

do you have any recs for good gen fics?
Yeah! Lemme wrack my brain for a hot sec
"Parade of Indignities" by @rissynicole is a 10/10 fic, good development all around excellent time (except for the characters but who asked them). Complete and fuckin great.
"Every Star Another Sun" by @dionysuscrysis is gen, the later works in the series are borderline zadr but it's mostly qp so you can read it either way. Death defying action and heart wrenching angst.
"Droit" by @perfectlysteadyzombie has Dib gain two whole parental figures in the form of the tallest much to their shock. A fun ride throughout.
"Honesty Hour" by @patchworkpoltergeist is another stand out but not for the faint of heart. Beware if psychological torture isn't your thing. If it is? Dig in.
"The Cotton Candy Incident" by @cdarkheartzero is going strong and I do quite enjoy their particular form of prose. Very tasty stuff, as the name would imply.
"Tech Support" by @paketdimensioncomic and @dana-chan-the-control-brain give the world the computer characterization that you didn't know you needed and will crave like water once you realize you do need it.
These are just a few off the top of my head, there's a whole bunch more I'm sure I missed, but I hope this helps!

I was talking this a little while ago with @paketdimensioncomic since the hot topic of the fandom tonight (aka: the past few weeks) is a little bit of Found Family expectation subversion at least when it comes to ZADF.
Like personally, I think Dib has nothing to gain by forcing Zim to come over to his “side” that he couldn’t really get from other methods or from slicing his organs out.
What does Dib get? Companionship (debatable) and Zim just doesn’t take over the world anymore?
I mean, he can get at least one of those things if Zim is dead.
That’s typically the motivation in most stories I’ve seen. (and while the reason of why and how they become “friends” is a bit more complicated in my au then that... Like in my au they’re still trying to kill each other. For no other reason other than to fuel their own egos)
There’s just one aspect that I don’t see talked of enough. Actually, it’s not really talked of AT ALL because most found family stories don’t utilize it.
I often see a very familiar scenario of Dib forcing too much of his ideals, culture and lifestyle onto Zim with asking invasive questions the whole time and Zim either goes along with it unconditionally, or Zim is very secretly depressed and has a million issues Dib choses to ignore because, hey, he’s not blowing up the Earth anymore. Bonus and everything is fine.
You know what would make that whole situation better?
Zim’s Computer.
Yes, I am dead serious and this isn’t because I am writing fanfiction about a Character that is just “sassy AI archetype” and has like six lines.
Computer is a bit of a special case in that he isn’t quite machine, and he’s not quite Irken and he’s not quite human.
He was installed on Earth, and has extensive Earth Knowledge, but he also has access to how Irk culture and Irk Technology works.
He is a super Computer, and as proven some of his knowledge on Earth is a lot of guesswork if he doesn’t know or can’t be bothered to look things up:
So where am I going with this exactly?
The Computer can serve a real sufficient role in the Zadf/Membrane family happy happy found family ending not a lot of people are seeing, or just, haven’t thought about it as much as I have. (cus let’s face it, when am I not thinking of Computer?)
The Computer is the BRIDGE between the Human World and the Irken World.
He is one of his kind, he’s Irken Tech, a brain in a jar, used to look up human data, and most likely absorbs a lot of his personality from the people around him and who he talks to.
Computer can be the one to call Dib out for forcing change so quickly, and he can also be the one to ease Zim into Earth ideas.
I don’t see Zim adopting every single mannerism of Earth Culture in his future, considering how deep rooted his Xenophobia is, I don’t think that’s something that can just go away...
But Computer can bring up concepts or ideas to Zim that he might adopt in his own way into his lifestyle.
Computer knows how to deal with and handle Zim, and he’s more of a Zim expert then Dib will ever be, because while Dib has stalked him for years (in my au, three years) the Computer is the one that holds countless recordings and medical records on the Irken himself, including PAK data as well.
While GIR is the one who is FULL NATIVE to Earth American Culture, and just absorbed it immediately right away with no objections, GIR doesn’t really have the emotional nuance or maturity to show Zim how to do the same thing... Like the best GIR can do is shove disgusting Earth food in his face, and hug Zim a lot, and throughout the show GIR has always done things to try to get Zim accepting of Earth’s customs. Such as Friendship, Hugs, food, love, shopping at the mall, singing, and many other instances of GIR doing just that...
And ofc... because it’s GIR... and because it’s Zim... Zim always either rejects whatever GIR is offering, or accepts it begrudgingly with reluctant acceptance or defeatist attitude
However, Computer is one with a less pushy personality. While Computer’s suggestions often get ignored, more often then naught, I really think if anyone can make it easier for Zim accepting the fact that he might be trapped on this dirt planet forever with no means of getting the recognition he deserves/wants, I think the Computer can really understand that better then Dib or GIR can.
While Dib might be able to understand the loneliness of what Zim is going through, Dib will never be able to understand Irk. He can’t understand what Zim left behind.
I feel it will always be with Dib: “Your alien race is/was evil and your leaders were jerks, fuck em!”
Computer is one who understands what Zim left behind, and the weight of what his Tallest meant to him. (if we are going by the “computer was once irken” theory)
The Computer would help ease the transition better. For example...
How do you get Zim to start having family dinners with the Membranes, when Irkens only have “snack breaks” but no meal times?
This is how Irkens eat together.
In @0palite ‘s words: “The Communal Eating Trough”
While GIR would try to shove food in his face, and Dib would just drag Zim to wherever he wanted to go...
The Computer can compare and have frames of reference for how humans eat and how Irkens eat... and make a logical choice/suggestion that would ease into a small step like this.
An Easy way to get Zim to sit down and have family meals with the Membranes is if they start with something that he can be accustomed to. So a easier transition for Family Dinners would be a Buffet style dinner at their house. Where all the food is at one table and people take what they want and put it on their plate.
Because most likely Zim wouldn’t feel comfortable sitting down and eating.
Standing near a buffet though, and eating his OWN serving that he took from said buffet? It’s far more doable as a first step and it’s more likely to get him more engaged.
So yeah. Computer is really the Bridge between the two cultures here
Computer can be the one to call Dib out on bullshit for trying to force change immediately, and can suggest easier first steps for Zim to take, because he is the bridge between both worlds.
This is why I’m so adamant about Computer taking a more active role in found family stories.
He is the one who has lived between worlds since the beginning
If anyone can make things easier for Zim to cope and adjust it would be the thing with knowledge on all Irken behavior as well as that of humans.
It also works well as an analogy for third generation kids. Like he is an Irken more or less that learned most of his information by absorbing Earth culture (because that’s what Zim asks him about and what he needs help on the most so that’s the knowledge he absorbs) and he mostly knows of Irk only in theory but not in practice.
Anyways, as always this is all personal opinion. And I gotta say, I absoultely love all IZ found family stories. I just will consume them all no mater the flavor.
