I was awestruck by this display. The density of detail between the buildings, people, and ships, is almost overwhelming. This was the last diorama of the series (or the first depending on which way you were coming from). The California State Railroad Museum in Sacramento was worth visiting for this series of dioramas alone.
*Smuggler’s Cove*
This O scale narrow gauge layout, Smuggler’s Cove, built by Michael Flack and the late Geoff Knott in Australia, depicts a fictional New England fishing community modeled after towns in coastal Massachusetts and Maine. Small and large fishing boats and the steamboat Sabino near the Maritime Museum play a prominent role in this coastal diorama. Look for intricate details such as the scratch built lobster traps, floats, and fish crates stacked on the pier. How many seagulls can you spot in Smuggler’s Cove?
*Geoff Knott and Michael Flack*
The late Geoff Knott and Michael Flack were insprred to build Smuggler’s Cove after discovering the history of rum-running along the East Coast of the US, in the carly 1900s, their inspiration for Smuggler’s Cove came after Geoff and Michael traveled to New England and visited Cape Cod, Boothbay Harbor, Bar Harbor, and Kennebunkport, Geoff and Michael helped to popularize O scale models. <Layout furnished by the Australasian Region of the NMRA>.

One of these days I need to build or buy a light box to take better photos. Ether way, one more day down in the hobby.
finished up the crane to at least tabletop standards. This is the first bit of terrain I've actually finished so I'm pretty pleased with it.
paint happy.

Please do not tap on the glass!
This is a toy plastic shark I repainted for my Mordheim board. He's a little cutie. There's a plastic rod glued under him to keep him suspended. He should look like he's swimming when I add the water.
I am impatiently waiting for all the mod podge to dry so I can finally add the resin water effects. The acrylic panels that will keep the resin contained weren't perfectly flat with the board, so I filled the cracks with gloss mod podge. I hope it works!

EA grass paint add-ons
Get them here: DOWNLOAD
I found these textures while cruising through the game's files and thought it would be cool to have more terrain paints that match packs, or just add some more variety. Included in here are 8 files:
3 grass types from Werewolves
2 Basegame grass edits
Some random pebbles
Green leaves for your trees
Everything is BGC!

4t2 realm of magic glimmerbrook terrain paints
Tumblr media
brazenlotus extracted all of the terrains from glimmerbrook, a world included in the sims 4's realm of magic, and turned them into terrain paints. they're cool, so here they are for the sims 2 :)
what you get: 13 terrain paints for the sims 2.
textures are 512x512 and 1024x1024. not massive, but they might be laggy if your computer is ye olde.
files are compressed.
credit: EA for the textures and brazenlotus for extracting them.

I liked the openforge system enough that when I decided to make some more natural terrain, I carved up the foam board and attached individual squares to the bases so I could attach them with magnets and rearrange the battlefield to be different each time. After that, just followed a basic guide to grassy mini bases.
While the lines between tiles are quite distinct, I've found I rather like that as it's easy to judge distance without having to mark a grid or pull out a tape measure. Keeping tiles from 2x2 to 4x4 inches makes it easy to tell how many squares across it is without losing room for detail within the lines.

Display board is done!
This build was mostly to test my terrain building chops and I think I did pretty well here, it definitely has made me want to build more terrain.
Very happy with how it all turned out, I think my favorite part is the Aquila and banding that I sculpted onto the big pipe on the right.
The other thing I'm really pleased with on this is the color choice. Some of my minis I'll look at afterwards and think "this isn't quite the right shade" or that I wish I'd picked something different, or mixed a color with different ratios. On this however I think I got everything spot on.

A friend gave me his taco truck. I promptly painted it up, and it’s ready to deliver chimichangas. Overall, a fun model to paint and weather.

Two things today.
Started working on my crane today. It's going fine. Using my apple barrel craft paint for the most part because it's a big piece. I'm a tad intimidated by terrain but that's because it's just so big, but nothing ventured nothing gained. Hopefully I can knock this out and finish up the other pieces I have built as well.
The other thing is I had a failure. Grabbed the wrong purple, so I need to strip and start over and then I dropped him so the staff broke, but it's ok. Like in life, sometimes we have setbacks. Sometimes, dispute our best efforts things just go sideways.
The only thing that really matters is how you deal with those emotions. I allowed myself to be sad and tomorrow I'll fix it and carry on.
I don't want perfection, I want improvement.
Paint happy.

This was fun to make honestly! I defaulted all terrain paints to go together nice with my current terrain defaults made by @suratan-zir! Some of the textures are just the original ts2 textures re-scaled to look sharper, some are by suratan-zir, the sand and rocks are by Voeille and some are from ts3 but edited to look closer to the ts2 ones :) I made this mostly for personal use so some textures may look wonky or don't really repeat the pattern properly but it's decent enough in my opinion lol

Now, nothing grows. A bizarre and horrible root covers the land, strangling the life from the trees, poisoning the water, and filling the sky with an acrid mist. Humanity barely endures by harvesting this disgusting tuber. It twists their bodies and minds, infesting their thoughts with divine visions of lost vegetables...
I took a small break this week from my other projects and built some scatter terrain for Turnip28. I picked up some fake vegetables from the dollar store, carved out mouths with my hobby knife, and jammed aquarium rocks in there for some gnarly teeth.
After gluing them to some chip board, I took some assorted bits from my bits box to add details. Tentacles and exposed organs from Tyranid and Nurgle kits. I also made piles of leftover bones from toy dinosaur skeletons. I made a terrain mixture out of Sculptmold, Mod Podge, and gravel to cover the bases. I took a sand texture and applied it to all the vegetables along with some grass tufts. Once everything was dried, I did a quick paint up with my airbrush and then hit everything with an oil wash. Oil washes are incredibly fun, especially when you're making something really gross and grimy!
Tumblr media
I'm incredibly happy with how they came out! I'm still working on my Turnip28 regiment and my Necromunda buddy is also making his own army so hopefully I'll get to use these for a game soon! More closeup pictures below the cut!

First stand of Terrain Crate alien trees I've added some basing material to, I'll get the rest to a similar standard then go back round with whatever material I have left and add that. And Vallejo Xpress seems to dry very glossy, so I'll need to give it a decent matt varnish.
