You have hope. It's cute.
Like Archie, I'm seduced by OFMD's promise that a better way is possible. It's world is not a Utopia - violence and hurt, bullying and pain, homophobia and betrayal still exist - but it is utopian in how it offers redemption and love for anyone willing to take the leap.
In the beginning of S2, Stede dreams of heroically overcoming his foe and running into his arms of his beloved. In the end, his dream becomes reality, and while it's messier and takes longer to achieve than the original vision, it is also all the sweeter.
This is a world where it doesn't matter how long you have been stuck in a rut, how badly you have betrayed your friends, how violent, messed up, and traumatised you are - as long as you are willing to open up, to accept change, to listen, and to allow compassion and hope to seep into the cracks in your armour until it is melted away.
It's a world in which stories matter. A puppet becoming a real boy, a sea-goddess rising from the depths, a merperson rescuing you from drowing in despair. An entire heart and soul gets poured into letters that wash up on a beach and end up in the hand of the one person that needs to read them. Hope is never in vain.
That's why this show means so much to me, and why I'm fighting tooth and nail to get it back.

like... in s1 izzy is right in the eye of the storm, right in the middle of the worst place he's ever been in mentally, and still largely unaware. and lucius teases him, because he's young and immature and this old geezer is being a prick. of course. izzy can't stand it. it only stokes the fire and makes him even more committed to his path
now we're back at s2. izzy has the opportunity to get back at him, now. lucius is the one stuck in the eye of the storm... but he doesn't. other than calling him "twatty" (which i mean, fair) he doesn't push his buttons to hurt lucius -- he pushes them in such a way as to make him question his line of thinking
and i just... the character growth. healing from trauma and helping others to heal from their trauma. reaching out a hand knowing it's going to be smacked away, but knowing also that it's the reaching that matters
