#or just a criminal minds prodigal son crossover

Watching Criminal Minds is dangerous. Like, I decided to watch one episode of Criminal Minds season 2 and because that one was to hard hitting I decided to watch another. Just one more I told myself and then it was another emotionally draining one but instead of time for recovery it jumped right into episode 12 which is another very heavy episode. I only have one more before I get to the episodes where Reid is taken and tortured by what’s his name and I’m not sure there will be a restful period for several episodes because yay addiction. And so long story short, well more like long story story, I think I’m going to end up staying up all night watching Criminal Minds. An amazing use of my time when I should really be sleeping because not only am I fighting a very persistent and annoying cold, I am also exhausted and sore all over from laying sod for the past two days straight. And I pretty much go directly from that to a week of craziness and then I start my new job that I know will be horrible for my mental health and am hoping I just get a few anxiety attacks and no new

20 questions for fic writers
Tagged by the wonderful @snowviolettwhite! 🧡❤
How many works do you have on AO3?
111
What's your total AO3 word count?
426,254 words
What fandoms do you write for?
Prodigal Son, Black Butler, Supernatural, 9-1-1, 9-1-1: Lone Star, The Last of Us, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Marvel, The Rookie, Sailor Moon, My Hero Academia, Lucifer (Netflix), Dexter, and Criminal Minds. There are still plenty of fandoms I want to write for but just haven't gotten the chance to yet.
Top 5 fics by kudos?
1. "Agere Ficlets/Dabbles" (Black Butler)
2. "In Need" (Black Butler)
3. "Not Alone" (Black Butler)
4. "Papa's Here" (Black Butler)
5. "Fatherly Love" (Black Butler)
Do you respond to comments?
Sure do!
What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Hmmmm, guess I would say my 9-1-1 fic "A New Home". It's set in a post-apocalyptic zombie world/classifications AU, where Bobby discovers a very regressed Buck about to be attacked by a zombified Maddie and saves him. It technically has a happy/hopeful ending (like most of my fics), but considering Maddie's death and Buck being too small to really understand what happened, it's still pretty damn angsty of an ending in my opinion.
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Oof, that's a tough one. Guess I'll say my 9-1-1 fic "Little and Tired". It's pretty much just a fluff with no plot oneshot of Bobby and Athena taking care of Buck when he regresses after a 48 hour shift, and ends with Bobby falling asleep in bed with Buck cuddled next to him.
Do you get hate on fics?
It's extremely rare for me, fortunately. I got some dumbass anti bullshit commented on my Criminal Minds fic like last year, but other than that nothing major.
Do you write smut?
Hell yeah I do~! Not as much as I would like, but I have four Black Butler ones I'm pretty proud of lol.
Craziest crossover?
Haven't done one yet, but definitely plan to one day.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Yes. Multiple times. By the same person. Who still shows up in kudos and comments from time to time.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yup! I've had 2 or 3 translated to Mandarin and Russian. It was awhile ago now, so I sadly can't remember which ones they were lol.
Have you co-written a fic before?
No, but I would like to one day.
All time favorite ship?
Sebaciel, Wincest and Johnlock. I can't pick just one lol.
What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
Lmao I would like to be optimistic and say I'll finish them all eventually.
What are your writing strengths?
Dialogue, probably.
What are your writing weaknesses?
Scene description and my horrible inability to stay focused lmao.
Thoughts on dialogue in another language?
I've written in nicknames from a couple different languages into my fics before, but I would like to one day incorporate full sentences into them too. Specifically Spanish.
First fandom you wrote in?
Black Butler. It was a horrifically cringy Sebaciel smut fic I wrote at the horny age of 13. The premise of the fic was good, but the execution was GOD AWFUL. Maybe I'll give re-writing it a shot one day tho... we shall see.
Favorite fic you've written?
Damn, another tough question lol. Hmmmm... I'm gonna say "Fatherly Love". It's not complete yet, but it's one that I'm immensely proud of and almost always enjoy writing.
Tagging (if you wanna): @angelique-of-the-volturi-guard, @panicatthetwentyonechemicalboys, @nottapossum, @cielconsumer and anyone else who wants to join!

20 Questions For Fic Writers
Tagged by the amazing @the-flaming-nightmare <3
What's your total AO3 word count?
1, 687, 549
What fandoms do you write for?
The Avengers, Black Butler, Death Note, Teen Titans, Batman, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, SPY X FAMILY, The Haunting Of Hill House, My Little Pony, Hunger Games, Twilight, Criminal Minds, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Supernatural, Descendants, Higurashi: When They Cry, Gakuen Babysitters. 펜트하우스 (The Penthouse: War In Life), Hetalia: Axis Powers, Assassination Classroom, Prodigal Son, Criminal Minds, Desperate Housewives, Glee
Top 5 fics by kudos?
1. Operation Round Table- 682
2. Contemplations- 631
3. Fever Dream-552
4. Cover- 525
5. Paternal Instinct- 520
Do you respond to comments?
Yes! I love to!
What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Probably Creature, where Bruce Banner was put into a coma where he lived his dream life of having two kids with Natasha and Wanda had to get him out. He had to leave her behind when she was almost 9 months pregnant and could remember everything. That one hurt.
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Objectively: You Belong. Bruce and Natasha finally got two biological kids that completed their family and they were happy. I love that for them.
Do you get hate on fics?
Very rarely, mercifully. I used to get more hate on Fimfiction than Ao3, so that’s been nice.
Do you write smut?
Once in a great while. Very rarely am I moved to write for a romantic couple but when it does happen I write the relationship in full.
Craziest crossover?
I did a criminal minds and Carrie crossover once with Spencer getting Carrie’s powers. That was awesome.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of, thankfully.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
I have! A few times, in fact. Usually in Mandarin.
Have you co-written a fic before?
I haven’t, but I’m not opposed to trying it.
All time favorite ship?
Romantically: Robin and Starfire. My very first ship that ever sailed. I love them your honor.
Platonically: The Kaiba Brothers’ relationship with each other has always held a special place in my heart.
What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
I have a few of those. One in particular was Rowena MacLeod making herself forget Crowley and making him look like a baby to her in order to try and protect him from his father, who she desperately doesn’t want to find him because he’s abusive and she did everything she did in order to protect Crowley from getting abused in the same way.
What are your writing strengths?
I can capture pathos very well.
What are your writing weaknesses?
I cannot write action scenes to save my life. I keep trying to figure out how to describe every little motion and it gets so jumbled in my head.
Thoughts on dialogue in another language?
I’ve done this for a fic (English and Korean). I think if it’s a choice you make then at the least you owe your readers translations for what’s being said, and if you’re going to do it, make sure it’s actually correct and don’t just trust google translate. Language is built on communication and if you’re writing a story, you might be communicating to fans who speak that language and deserve proper representation.
First fandom you wrote in?
Teen Titans. I will always love Robin.
Favorite fic you've written?
I think He’s My Son is what I consider my magnum opus, just because the story touched on so many pieces of my identity and experience at once. Motherhood, grief, accepting change, trying to cope. It felt very personal and I was very proud of how much that story managed to accomplish.

OK so I finished watching Prodigal Son (which btw WE NEED A SEASON 3!!), and based on suggestions I decided to watch Criminal minds, honestly why the hell did it take me so long to watch it?! 💜😍👏👏👏
But this got me thinking and comparing the shows: How 👏 AMAZING 👏would it be if Bright and Reid had been in Quantico together? Like just imagine the hell they would raise in the BAU and once Bright left, what if they had been called to help the NYPD on a case so Gil and the team meet Reid!
PEOPLE! I’m OBSESSED!!!! I NEED THIS FCS CROSSOVERS!!! If anyone knows any fics if these fandoms and feel like sending them my way, I would love it plus you’d be my favorite people in the world ☺️☺️💜

An Extra Dose of Chaos- Malcolm Bright Imagine (Prodigal Son/Criminal Minds Crossover)
Tumblr media
Title: An Extra Dose of Chaos
Pairing: Malcolm Bright X Reader
Requested: Nope
Word Count: 1,861 words
Warning(s): Violence in canon of both shows
Summary: (Starts on season 13, episode 7 of Criminal Minds) The BAU found themselves in a time of need after their final confrontation with Scratch. Though absolutely devastated by the loss of Stephen Walker, (Y/n) was somewhat excited to not be seen as the new kid anymore when Malcolm Bright was brought on to the team. Now, if he could just stop making such a mess of things...
Author’s Note: THERE MAY BE A PART 2 OF THIS BUT I’M NOTE SURE YET! It took a long time but... I found a way to connect them! I am so excited! Also, I doubt Malcolm would’ve lasted this long in the B.A.U but this is the best way to put him in the story without using two seasons that were airing at the same time (Season 1 of Prodigal Son and season 15 of Criminal Minds)
Please consider supporting my Ko-fi account. It would mean a lot to me. If I know there are people interested in it, I’ll get the monthly donation part set up.
Buy me a coffee? https://ko-fi.com/khoward0
----------------------------------------------------
I let out a sigh as I walked to the round table. Another day without Stephen. We had both joined the team around the same time, but I was still declared a new kid because he beat me here by about a month. Garcia had given Luke the official title but I still felt it whenever we were debriefed on a case. Stephen gave me someone to relate to.
I looked over to the door as J.J walked in. She grinned at me.
“Emily hired a new agent,” she said. I nodded. “How are you?”
“Shaky but desperate to get some work done,” I replied, forcing a smile. I knew she was going to say more but luckily the team walked in before she could.
Emily stayed standing as everyone got settled in their seats.
“Everyone, this Malcolm Bright, he’s our new agent,” she said, pointing at the man standing next to her. He waved. Emily and him made their way to their seats. “Take it away, Garcia.”
Malcolm had sat in the spot right next to me. I glanced over at him while he read the case file. He seemed... giddy? That wasn’t the right word but I don’t think there was a better one. Something that should’ve disturbed him just... didn’t.
It was a strange case. Victims were kidnapped, had symbols carved into their faces, and then were found in their cars but miles away from where they were last seen. All without any memory of what had happened to them.
“Alright, wheels up in 30,” Emily said before standing. Everyone followed close behind her.
“Hey, Malcolm,” I said, stopping the new guy before he left. “How are you feeling? I know some of this stuff can feel overwhelming on the first day.”
“I’m alright,” he replied. “Believe me, I’ve seen worse.”
“When,” I asked, my eyebrows furrowing together for a moment.
“Oh, y’know, research for school and such,” he shrugged the question off. “I’ve gotta get my go bag.”
“Okay, see you on the jet.”
“We have our own jet?”
--Time Skip--
“Spencer,” I said, looking at the photos of one of the victim’s injuries. “These can’t be taser or stun gun marks.”
“Why,” the doctor in front of us asked.
“They usually burn the skin around the radius of the mark,” I replied. “There’s no burn mark.”
“Did the victim report a metallic taste in her mouth,” Spencer asked as Malcolm looked over my shoulder at the photos.
“They’re probably snake bites,” Malcolm noted, cutting the doctor off a little bit. “Blood tests would show if there was any venom present.”
Spencer turned around and listed off a few blood tests that I could never remember. I closed the file.
“A snake as a way to subdue a victim, that’s risky,” I said, looking at Malcolm.
“Hot day, lock the snake in the car, and wait,” he mumbled. “It leaves a lot to chance. This is the element that matters. There’s no way a snake is a weapon of opportunity.”
“If it’s a dangerous reptile, there’d be records of licenses,” I said as we followed Spencer out of the hospital. “Once we have the kind of snake, we could ask Garcia to cross-reference.”
“Except if it was bought on the black market,” Malcolm added.
“You do not know Garcia,” I smirked, picking up my pace to keep up with Spencer. Damn this boy and his gazelle legs.
“She seems delightful,” Malcolm shrugged. None of us spoke again until we were in the car. “So... why does this guy choose body modification? Why specifically the scarring? Surely tattoos would have a similar effect to the women’s self-worth.”
“I don’t know yet,” Spencer replied. “I say we relay what we know to the team and see what they say.”
We both nodded, waiting for him to start the car.
--Time Skip--
I wondered why my heart could beat so fast yet I could look so calm when we got to crime scenes. It was like my fear responses stopped halfway. I’m sure there was a reason for it but there are some things you think about but don’t really want the answers to.
I took a deep breath as the car stopped. I unbuckled quickly. We had split up. Matt, J.J, Malcolm, and me in one car; Rossi, Spencer, and Luke in the other. Emily stayed back at the police station to help us out as much as possible.
Matt and J.J went around the back to keep watch. Malcolm and I got to the front door. I was just about to lay my hand on the doorknob so we could be smart about this...
and then Malcolm sprinted in. No count, no warning, he just ran in without any warning.
“Malcolm,” I hissed, following him quickly. What the hell was wrong with him.
I barely got there at the same time as him when he busted the door down.
“F.B.I,” I shouted, actually doing my job. I followed him inside.
He didn’t have his gun aimed. Did he have it out when he first ran in? I kept my gun fixed on Desi- the unsub- who was just staring at us. Her mom tied to a chair and her sister trapped on one of the seats you’d see in a tattoo parlor.
“Desi, drop the knife,” Malcolm said, holding his gun up.
“You- You don’t know what she did to me,” she replied.
“We do,” he nodded. “We know about the neglect and... and the abuse.”
“I was so scared,” she was whispering.
“Who wouldn’t be,” I asked. “You were just a kid-”
“I tried so hard to erase any sign of her,” she continued. “And there she is on the front page. They think she’s perfect.”
My eyes drifted towards the snakes in the room.
“The perfect woman! The perfect mother! They don’t know what she’s capable of... what I’m capable of.”
“We know,” Malcolm nodded, grinning at her. “I also know that if you surrender and we walk out of here, everyone else will know too. She’ll have to live with that. Isn’t that what you wanted? For your mom to live with the shame of all of this?”
Desi went to move forward, towards the snakes.
“Desi,” I said firmly. She stopped... for a moment. She then ran at the container, shoving it towards the ground before sprinting out the other door.
“Help her mom,” I shouted, walking over to her sister. “Hey, stay with me, yeah? We’re gonna get you help.”
I went to call for an ambulance, only stopping for a second when I heard gunshots. I shook it off, calling the ambulance before helping her sister up and out of the room. Malcolm had already left with her mom.
--Time Skip--
We were all on the jet later that night. Some of the team was playing poker, others just relaxing. I was lounging on the small jet couch, cradling a mug of tea.
“Hey,” Malcolm said softly, sitting next to me. I nodded as a way to acknowledge him. “I’ve only known you for a few days but I can already tell that silence is not a good sign.”
“You ran into the house with any regard for safety,” I replied. “Your gun wasn’t drawn, you didn’t wait for back-up and was just lucky I was there, and you ran into an active crime scene without announcing that you were the F.B.I.”
“I did almost everything wrong.”
“Pretty much,” I sighed. “But you did a good job reasoning with Desi. As good of a job as any of us probably could.”
“Well, I’m sorry about what happened... but can I ask something?”
“Yeah.”
“Why are you so worried,” he asked. “I’d say you were angry but you aren’t displaying all of the signs of anger and you can’t just be nervous about the unsub because the event is over with.”
“I was the new kid before you,” I explained, already questioning whether or not I was ready to talk about this. “Around the same time I joined, Stephen Walker did. The team was looking for this serial killer that called himself Mr. Scratch. We thought we had found him and we knew the house was safe... we thought we were gonna catch him. Then, I think he laid spike in the road. Our cars crashed into each other. It was bad. Emily was kidnapped, the rest of us unconscious... except for Stephen. He died in that accident before they’d even found the cars. I had to tell his wife. I couldn’t even look to my right on my way home because her tears had stained my shirt. I lost the person I was closest to on the team.”
“Now you see another new kid running into snake dens like it’s no big deal,” Malcolm concluded. I nodded.
“It makes me really nervous,” I looked down.
“I’m sorry,” he replied quietly. I shook my head.
“It’s alright,” I looked back up at him. “Just... please don’t do something like that again.”
“... I’ll do my best.”
I chuckled at his hesitation. If all went well, Malcolm would fit in just fine.
--Time Skip (In Between Seasons 14 & 15)--
“Hey,” I said as Malcolm walked over to his desk. He had yet another meeting with Emily and Cruz. This time it went a step further. “How’d it go?”
“I had a meeting to explain my actions,” he explained, grabbing his go-bag. It was pretty much the only thing he had at his desk. “And they fired me.”
“What,” I asked. I bit the inside of my cheek.
“Are you surprised that it happened or are you surprised that it happened?”
“You did punch a sheriff,” I trailed off.
Malcolm nodded and started walking toward the elevator. I stood up and followed him quickly.
“Where are you gonna go,” I asked.
“Probably back to New York,” he shrugged. “My mom wants me back there anyway.”
“Oh,” I nodded. I wanted him to stay closer. I wanted to see him. I looked down nervously as we waited for the elevator. “It’s gonna be boring without you here.”
“Always kept you on your toes,” he chuckled. The elevator dinged. “You should come visit. Just give me a call.”
“Okay,” I replied. I was going to just wave but then jumped when Malcolm quickly kissed my cheek and stepped into the elevator. I could only watch in shock as the elevator doors closed.
“Did that just happen,” Garcia asked, walking over to me.
“Oh my god,” I whispered, looking at her. “Oh my god!”
“Go talk to him,” she shouted as the other elevator opened. I ran in, waving at her and telling her to let Emily know where I went.
What I didn’t see was J.J walk up to Garcia after the elevator doors closed.
“What’s (Y/n) doing,” she asked. Garcia just grinned.
“Proving that you owe me twenty bucks,” she replied.
“No he didn’t,” J.J said. Garcia nodded. “I’m waiting for (Y/n) to confirm that before I give you money.”
“(Y/n) might still be in shock when they get up here.”
...and maybe I was.

20 questions, writer’s edition!
saw this on @gerec page and wanted to try it How many works do you have on AO3?
277 but some are like 1 work with unrelated works in the chapters
What’s your total AO3 word count?
2164964 How many fandoms have you written for and what are they? 12
Roswell New Mexico/RNM RPF
X-Men (Alternate Timeline Movies)
Criminal Minds
Westlife (Band)
A1
Blue (Band)
Prodigal Son
9-1-1: Lone Star
Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman
Torchwood
Hawaii Five-0
Da Vinci's Demons What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Secrets Learned, Secrets Kept (Criminal Minds)
On a Beach in Cuba... With You (X-Men (Alternate Timeline Movies))
First Time (Criminal Minds)
Lucky to Have You (Criminal Minds)
Unlucky Seven (Criminal Minds) Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
I try to, I really do but sometimes I get overwhelmed or can't think of the right words and so I think 'I'll come back later' and then time gets away from me then it's been months and I'm too embarrassed
What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
Blood & a Single Gunshot (X-Men (Alternate Timeline Movies) What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?
I honestly don't know about this one... I mean, most of mine are either kinda dark-ish or more hopeful endings, unless the fic itself is mostly fluffy. Maybe I just don't write many *happy* fics...
Maybe if I had to pick... Ummm... This one?
Coming Home To You (Roswell New Mexico) Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written?
Not really, I've only written two so far. A Westlife/Blue mix and an X-Men/Da Vinci's Demons crossover (which is actually the craziest but also one of my absolute fave fics of mine). I do hope to one day write a Roswell New Mexico/Prodigal Son crossover though
Have you ever received hate on a fic?
Yes! on two X-men fics and one of my RNM fics, guess it just comes with the territory though
Do you write smut? If so what kind?
I try to... and what kind? the bad kind because i'm terrible at it.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Technically once but a bunch of fics were taken and posted to wattpad or something without our permission, so it wasn't just me.
Have you ever had a fic translated? Yep and the translated work is my second most hits fic on my ao3
A Matter of Trust 信任练习 (X-Men: First Class (2011) Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I tried... Was contacted once years ago by someone who offered to co-write with me and they only contributed one scene which I did use but the other 46k words of the fic were all mine...
What’s your all time favorite ship?
I don't think I can pick... Some have the longevity of being in my heart way longer while others were canon and others should've been Endgame... If I have to choose one then I'd probably have to say Jack & Daniel from Stargate SG1 because it's what got me reading fic in the first place.
What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
Until You're Resting Here With Me (Roswell New Mexico)
I'm really trying but I have zero interest in this fic anymore... I'll never finish Fairy Alex either (When an Alien Loves A Fairy)
What are your writing strengths?
I enjoy writing dialogue/conversations and I think I'm pretty good at that.
What are your writing weaknesses?
Trying to write smut... my attempts are cringe
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
I've tried it a few times but only by using a translate website so I always feel I'm doing it wrong and don't want to insult readers by misusing the terms/context
' What was the first fandom you wrote for?
Stargate Atlantis but I never actually finished or posted anything.
What’s your favorite fic you’ve written? I have like 5, okay? Gryffindor Pride (Roswell New Mexico)
Something so Wrong that Feels so Right (Roswell New Mexico)
Maybe Tomorrow (X-Men: First Class /Da Vinci's Demons)
Beautifully Broken (Westlife)
A Light to Guide you Through the Darkest Nights (X-Men (Alternate Timeline Movies)

Fic Writer Interview
Tagged by @officerrxyes , @brilliantbanshee and @letitialewiss (the last two while i was taking forever doing this)
Name(s): Annie-Claude (just say AC)
Fandom(s): currently I write for 911, 911 Lone Star, Prodigal Son, Limitless and Leverage. I want to do some other Station 19 fics, but I can’t even fit in all the others in the time I have so. ao3 has a full list of all fandoms I’ve ever done
Where you post: ao3, I post links to most of them here (i have to say most not all cause i didn’t post my last one here)
Most Popular One Shot (by kudos) Overall/This Year: overall is In My Heart which was posted this year with 351 kudos (i am shocked to learn that in second place is a Limitless fic, from 2016)
Most Popular Multi-Chapter (by kudos)  Overall/This Year: unsurprisingly, it’s Unleashed overall and this year, it has 252 kudos
Favorite story you've written so far: Unleashed I really peaked last winter, nothing I write will ever be this good
Fic you were nervous to post: there are so many. most notably though The Past Job, because of the sensitive subject matter, The Potion Master’s Daughter, because it was my biggest project, I wasn’t sure I would be able to actually see it through and many other reasons. Barbie Boy, because while not my first mature fic, The Past Job stopped before anything happened, and the other one I had written years before is just bad, and posting that kind of stuff always makes me extremely nervous, I rarely write that and I’m not entirely comfortable doing it, so I’m always kinda scared to post it. And last I’ll mention is Move Forward Together, because I inserted some personal stuff in it and also, again, sensitive subject matter.
How do you choose your titles?: i stare at the title field and panic. sometimes they come to me in my head, a few times i used song lyrics, only once this year i think, and a few times I used a quote from the fic, Curve Ball Field was me hinting at the ending which I thought was kinda clever. If the show the fic is based on has a specific way to title episodes, I will try to use that, like all my Leverage fics are The [blank] Job. I totally forgot to do that with Station 19 which I think does song titles just like Grey’s? And I basically gave up right away for 911, it’s not all that specific but still shows the theme. Also, I have series where all the fics have the same kind of title, not all of them, but like bthb was all three word titles.
Do you outline?: Sometimes I have an overall idea of the plan in my head, and i outline multi chapters. But a lot of the time for one shots I just start writing and figure it out as I go
Complete: 127 (72 just this year apparently) + 4 translations. + 2 fics I wrote for exchanges
In-Progress: 2 I’m actually working on
Coming soon/not yet started: I have 3 prompts left in my inbox, there are still more weeks like wedding week and Carlos week. I have an idea for an In Vino Veritas fic that will either end up in Christmas week or just will happen when I have the time. I have a whole bunch of notes of ideas on my phone. One of which is an entire list of ideas for Prodigal Son that are collecting dust, including a Criminal Minds crossover and a sequel to the New Amsterdam crossover, and more that are not crossovers.
Prompts?: i was thinking of sharing another prompt list, but i want to finish the ones i have left first and either get a handle on the weeks or finish the soulmate au
Upcoming work you're most excited about: In Cicatrices Amor, aka the Buddie soulmate AU I keep talking about. I’m on chapter 8, like 16k in (it was supposed to be a 10-15k one shot, oops).

miranda-gilastorm replied to your post “Also, new fall shows! I am watching some! All Rise - watched the first...”
Okay. Batwoman -- A+++++. Like seriously!! I'm not sure I'm willing to check out Nancy Drew since I got bored with Riverdale and am at least a season behind.. I don't want another teen drama.. THE PRODIGAL SON - OH MY LORD!! It's like some took Criminal Minds and The Following and Hannibal and decided to write a crossover self-insert and produce it BEAUTIFULLY?? So. Good. The others? Not sure I recognize... Where does one find ST: Picard?????
Nancy Drew has some aesthetic qualities similar to Riverdale but it seems to be very different content-wise and thematically. Hard to tell with just a few eps in, but if it helps at all - it’s more of a young adult than teen show. The main characters are somewhere between 18-23? I’d guess and it’s about their lives in town after high school for the folks who didn’t go on to college at the age most folks move away and do that.
YES on Prodigal Sons. I was worried about the dozens of super icky ways they could be taking this show and maybe they still will with some of them because they do seem to like to push the boundaries but it has a lot of interesting things to say about trauma in complicated families and - while my family was not Quite that traumatic or complicated, it still prolly makes the list. lol So I’m digging it for the psychotherapy angle as well as the small and long arcs and character inter-development.
Star Trek: Picard starts in January on CBSAA
As for the others you didn’t recognize - if you enjoy the psychological elements of a show and a sort of push/pull between what might be human beings being evil (or in some cases sick) vs. supernatural evil - you might wanna give Evil a check.
And Stumptown is the BEST new show this fall, imo. We get a masculine-ish possibly bi (she’s said she’s slept with women b4 but not how she’d identify) badass war vet woman who is a total disaster in her life but is finding meaning in becoming a private eye. She has a male best friend (they did it once early on and then decided on friendship). She takes care of a brother with Downs - played by an actor who has it himself. The cast is pretty racially diverse with lots of Native characters, Michael Ealy being the kind of  hmmmm Dex doesn’t do love so sex interest?? lol The cases of the week are fun romps with real issues attached and there are some very interesting overarching arcs for several of the characters that I’m excited to see come to fruition.
Anyway, that’s my TV proselytizing. Hope you enjoyed it! lol

Network Upfronts 2019: ‘Bless This Mess’ of a Schedule
Tumblr media
As has become an annual tradition for the Entertainment Industry, the Big Five broadcast networks – ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, and The CW – trotted out new schedules for next autumn.  In addition to an unresolved contractual status between TV writers and their agents, this was also the first fall season following the official merger of ABC and Fox.
Last month, I unveiled my own “fantasy schedules” for the Big Five, as a normally do:  one for ABC, one for CBS, one for NBC, one for Fox, and one for The CW.
Not only did all of the networks ignore most of my suggestions – one of them, in particular, cobbled together what is arguably the worst individual network schedule in recent broadcast history.  Whether the other networks take advantage of that shaky foundation to propel themselves ahead, however, remains to be seen.
Tumblr media
Here is the mixed bag of decisions made by the Big Five, this year:
CBS
Madam Secretary receives a well-deserved final season of ten episodes, to air this fall.  Undercover Boss, Man with a Plan, The Amazing Race, and (perhaps most surprisingly) MacGyver will return in January or later.   Also on-deck for midseason are new sitcom Broke along with new dramas FBI: Most Wanted and Tommy.
Tumblr media
The good:  CBS made some good stability choices, keeping the Sunday and Tuesday night lineups the same as last season.  The new Billy Gardell sitcom Bob Hearts Abishola should benefit from The Neighborhood’s lead-in audience.  New comedies The Unicorn (headlined by Walton Goggins) and Carol’s Second Act (starring Patricia Heaton) have perfect placements behind Young Sheldon and Mom, respectively.
And likewise, Magnum P.I. should benefit from its move to Friday night behind Hawaii Five-0 (even if it means benching MacGyver until midseason, rather than taking my advice and moving Blue Bloods to a new night).  Additional kudos for being willing to give Madam Secretary its final ten-episode season.
Tumblr media
The bad:  Mainly CBS’s stubborn insistence on continuing to prop up the low-performing SEAL Team on Wednesday nights...keeping it in the plum post-Survivor time slot (which really should have been turned over to a new program like Evil, Tommy, or All Rise).
Tumblr media
The questionable:  All Rise is certainly compatible forming a two-hour bloc with Bull.  I just wish they weren’t keeping Bull on Monday nights.  This is a tough place to launch a new series...or even to maintain an aging series whose star has been implicated in sexual harassment controversy.
Tumblr media
Grade:  B+
Predictions:  Once Madam Secretary takes its final bow in November, look for CBS to consider moving SEAL Team into that sleepy Sunday slot so the David Boreanaz vehicle can prove that it has its own legs.  The FBI: Most Wanted spinoff could get an abridged winter tryout while its mothership series sits on the bench for several weeks.  Broke will probably be midseason spackle for whichever of the three new comedies brings in the lowest demos.  Still, with The Big Bang Theory now gone – if there was any season during which CBS could renew most (if not all) of any decently-performing new sitcoms, this could be it.  But if S.W.A.T. or Evil falters on either Wednesday or Thursday (respectively), then watch for Blue Bloods to finally move off of Fridays to make room for MacGyver (and some epic three-hour crossovers between Hawaii Five-0, Magnum P.I., and MacGyver).  The ten-episode final season of Criminal Minds will probably be used as winter filler, along with summer stints for the returns of The Amazing Race and Undercover Boss.
Tumblr media
The CW
Shocking many observers who assumed All-American would be done-for, The CW renewed every single one of its scripted series.  Arrow will get an announced final season to air in the fall, with several midseason replacements waiting in the wings, including Riverdale-spinoff Katy Keene as well as the returns of The 100, In the Dark, Legends of Tomorrow, and Roswell, New Mexico.
Tumblr media
The good: Batwoman will be very compatible with Supergirl on Sunday nights.  Similarly, the Nancy Drew remake should be a nice tonal partner to Riverdale on Wednesdays (even though I expected that slot to go to Katy Keene).
Tumblr media
The bad:  it seems slightly wasteful to put Arrow’s ten-episode final season in the post-Flash slot, since it’s prime real estate being given to a show that will no longer be around in the new year.  However, The CW’s intent could be to slide in either Roswell, New Mexico or Legends of Tomorrow into that 9pm slot when fresh episodes of The Flash return in January.   I’m also not sure I understand the network’s rationale behind holding Katy Keene over until midseason.
Tumblr media
The questionable:  All-American and Black Lightning are probably being paired together because each features a male lead character of color.  But is Monday really the best place for them, especially with the low-rated All-American as the night’s lead-in?  Legacies could benefit from airing behind Supernatural’s final season, and the duo of (newly-relocated) Charmed and Dynasty could hold down the fort on Fridays well enough if their production costs don’t become too extravagant.
Tumblr media
Grade:  B
Predictions:  Midseason, Legends of Tomorrow probably takes over for Arrow on Tuesdays.  All-American and Black Lightning may end 16-episode seasons in tandem by March, allowing In The Dark and Roswell, New Mexico to pick up the torch on Mondays.  Depending on whether Nancy Drew gets an extended episode order, Katy Keene (starring Lucy Kate Hale of Pretty Little Liars fame) would seem to be the logical choice to clock in midseason in that post-Riverdale slot (if only for the crossover potential).
Tumblr media
NBC
Blindspot is getting an announced final season, premiering at a TBA point next spring or summer.  Law & Order: SVU is rumored to be heading into would could be a final season.  Comedies The Kenan Show and Indebted along with dramas Council of Dads, Lincoln, and Zoe's Extraordinary Playlist (already slated for Sundays) will clock in at midseason.
Tumblr media
The good:  Tuesday nights stay the same, which is boring but a safe-and-prudent choice.  Ditto for keeping the all-Chicago lineup intact on Wednesdays, and keeping The Blacklist in its Friday perch.
Tumblr media
The bad:  Sunday night seems to be a risky spot to plunk down a new entry with as much breakout potential as Zoe’s Extraordinary Playlist, even if it is sandwiched between the popular Little Big Shots and the solidly-performing Good Girls.  I’m underwhelmed by giving Bluff City Law the golden time slot after The Voice on Mondays – that’s really where NBC should be scheduling Zoe’s Extraordinary Playlist, even if they waited until March to premiere it there.  I assume Bluff City Law is getting a fall tryout due to the star power of Jimmy Smits.
Additionally, I predict Manifest’s momentum will get killed by waiting until midseason to bring it back, due to its serialized nature.  The Peacock Network really missed an innovative opportunity by declining to pair Perfect Harmony and Sunnyside together in a one-hour bloc of new comedies immediately following The Voice’s results show (although such a move, admittedly, would have required NBC to either relocate or delay one of This is Us or New Amsterdam).
Tumblr media
The questionable:  I’m assuming Council of Dads takes over for This is Us on Tuesdays in March, given the commonality of their family drama emphases.  The Good Place becoming a 9pm anchor on Thursday night could be genius...or an unnecessary risk, particularly with The Good Place only airing 13 episodes.
Tumblr media
Grade:  C+
Predictions:  Blindspot will return for its announced final season in January or February in the hour following The Blacklist.  Will & Grace will likely take over for The Good Place around that same time; at that point, depending on the success or failure of one/both of Perfect Harmony and Sunnyside, NBC has a lot of flexibility to restructure its comedy lineup with The Kenan Show and Indebted waiting in limbo.  Lincoln would probably be trotted out on Mondays if Bluff City Law fails...or be held over until the summer.
Tumblr media
Fox
The disingenuous cancellations of Star and The Cool Kids top my biggest disappointments in the aftermath of Fox's merger with ABC.  The Orville and Last Man Standing will return following the conclusion of football at midseason, joined by replacement newbies The Great North, Duncanville, Outmatched, NeXt, Filthy Rich, Deputy, and spinoff 911: Lone Star.  Most significantly – but not surprisingly – Empire will be airing its final season.
Tumblr media
The good:  Fox’s Sunday animation lineup appears strong, and I imagine the 911: Lone Star spinoff is designed to air in-between the two halves of its mothership series.  I also hadn’t considered the possibility of The Masked Singer being slotted for the fall, but it is a cheap and low-risk high-reward strategy.
Tumblr media
The bad:  I understand Fox’s financial and tactical reasoning for keeping Thursday Night Football and turning over Fridays all season long to the WWE:  that doesn’t mean I have to like it.  On top of that, holding Last Man Standing in reserve until midseason (with new sitcom Outmatched obviously intended to be its new partner) seems unnecessary and excessive.  I’m also not convinced that Filthy Rich would be best suited to follow up those two sitcoms on Thursday (presumably facing more mainstream comedy competition from CBS and NBC).
Tumblr media
The questionable:  Why move Empire to Tuesday?  Even with it being the announced final season, is that really such a compatible lead-out from The Resident?  You’d think The Resident would be paired with a more procedural sort of show, like Prodigal Son.  Likewise, the swan song for Empire seems as though it would have been at least marginally compatible with the soapy Not Just Me.
Tumblr media
Grade:  C-
Predictions:  With fewer time slots available, there shouldn’t be that many surprises coming midseason.  Season 3 of The Orville might work well paired with the new sci-fi drama NeXt.  Elsewhere on the schedule, Deputy could take over for Empire on Tuesdays.  MasterChef Junior can be plugged in pretty much anywhere.
Tumblr media
ABC
The cancellation of Speechless stunned some observers, although I shed zero tears over it.  However, the inexplicable renewals of Single Parents and Bless This Mess proved to be amongst the most mind-boggling (putting it lightly) decisions made by the network.  Midseason, Station 19, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., American Idol, and The Bachelor will return.  New entries will include dramas For Life and The Baker and the Beauty, sitcom United We Fall, game show Don't, and reality newcomer Videos After Dark.
Tumblr media
The good:  Not much.   ABC is wise to keep Schooled right where it is, and resurrecting Kids Say The Darndest Things (now headlined by Tiffany Haddish) was an unpredictable-yet-smart choice.  While I’ve been critical about ABC’s tendency to waste the post-Dancing with the Stars time slot on buzzworthy new shows, I can see the reasoning behind keeping The Good Doctor nurtured there for another season or two, so that The Good Doctor will presumably be able to lead off another night (probably Thursdays) someday.  Let’s just hope ABC doesn’t make the same mistake they made with Castle by keeping The Good Doctor planted there for seven or eight years...
Tumblr media
The bad:  Why the hell would ABC renew The Rookie only to send it to Sunday’s sleepiest time slot?  Meanwhile, the network reverts back to its inane, mind-boggling – and, by this point, laughable – approach of premiering totally new one-hour dramas in the dead zone of Tuesdays at 10pm (where Emergence will probably be DOA).  At the very least, they could have kept The Rookie there, and saved Emergence for midseason or summer.
Then there’s the abysmal comedy front.  Out of all the comedies on ABC’s schedule, Bless This Mess and Single Parents were arguably the lowest-quality options for renewal.  And neither of them has brought in impressive ratings, to boot.  Those renewals make no sense when you consider how ABC could have, instead, renewed The Kids Are Alright and continued nurturing it behind The Connors.  Or they could have canceled Single Parents and moved Splitting Up Together into the post-Modern Family time slot (to take advantage of the buzz behind Modern Family’s announced final season).
Tumblr media
The questionable:  although it’s logical for Mixedish to share the same hour as its parent series, Blackish – it seems bizarre to give the 9pm anchor slot to the newer (and less proven) of the two.  Stumptown (starring Cobie Smulders) on Wednesday has potential, but will it be different enough from S.W.A.T. or Chicago PD to stand out in that time slot?  ABC is clearly trying to kill American Housewife by banishing it to Fridays?  Is the TGIT lineup on its last legs?  Will How to Get Away with Murder receive an announced final season?  Will A Million Little Things underperform compared to last year?  Stay tuned...
Tumblr media
Grade:  F
Predictions:  for the most part, terrible decisions all-around.  Mondays and Thursdays aren’t too bad...but Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday are a mess.
I predict that, in another year or two, executives at ABC will be disingenuously scratching their heads wondering why their viewership numbers have dropped to CW-levels of tedium.
Tumblr media
In summary, CBS and The CW turned out acceptable enough schedules.  NBC and Fox missed a lot of opportunities...but they didn’t drop the ball nearly as badly as ABC did with its lackluster, nonsensical scheduling and renewal choices.
Whoever thought we’d actually miss Channing Dungey...???

Writer’s asks: 7, 18, 27, 34, 36, 41! 🌂
Hi umbrella anon!! How are you doing today??
7. Standalone or series? Six months ago I would’ve said standalone, but I’ve actually really started to enjoy working on long fics and novels!
18. If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be, and what would you write about? Okokokok so! @marvelmisha, aka @brightterror and I have actually been brainstorming a crossover fic between Prodigal Son and Criminal Minds, but we haven’t actually had time to start it jejeje. We started the idea around October, and bc both of us were doing Whumptober we didn’t have time, and then I decided to take on NaNo so I was too busy, and then real life happened, and then I started a sequel novel- BUT I still really really really want to work on that with her!!
27. Favourite line/scene (I’ll put this at the end under a page break bc it’s kinda long lol)
34. What was the hardest scene you ever had to write? Writing the entire second half of There’s Not a Word in the World That Could Explain This Feeling was really really difficult and made me ver sad :(
36. Last sentence you wrote His sunglasses sit comfortably in his messenger bag, but Spencer’s far too exhausted to reach for them.
41. Any advice for new/beginning/young writers? Stop thinking about writing and just write. It literally sucks to learn how to do, but being able to sit in front of a computer/notebook and vomiting up words is a skill that is super super important. Editing will come later, just don’t think about it and let your thoughts go wild!!
So here’s one of my favorite parts that I’ve written, it’s from a fic that’s about 10k words long, but I haven’t actually published it... Spoilers for 2x15 I guess. But it’s been like a decade I think most of you have seen it lmao

20 Questions For Fic Writers
Thank you so much for the tag, @snowviolettwhite! ❤
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
I have 108, but I really only have 105. There are three Prodigal Son fics on there that my best friend wrote for me and gave me permission to post on my account.
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
416,503 words (so far 😉).
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Black Butler
Prodigal Son
Supernatural
9-1-1
9-1-1: Lone Star
The Last of Us
Dexter
Criminal Minds
Lucifer
Marvel
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
My Hero Academia
Sailor Moon
Death Note
(There are still MANY other fandoms I plan on writing for one day tho lol)
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
"Agere Ficlets/Dabbles," "In Need," "Not Alone," "Papa's Here," and "Little Boy Green."
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I LOVE to respond to comments! Granted I do sometimes get a little overwhelmed with all of the praise and don't always know what to say right away, but I still always do my best to respond.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
This was a tough choice, but ima have to say "Shattered." It was a Supernatural vent fic I wrote after my grandfather passed back in 2020.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Uhhhh... I can't decide lmao. I feel like I have WAY too many to choose from. 😅
8. Do you get hate on fics?
I've been very fortunate not to get much at all tbh. The only time I received blatant hate was on my Criminals Minds fic. Some anti was "triggered" by the breastfeeding in that fic, even tho they were forewarned by the tags what the story contained. 😑😒
9. Do you write smut?
Sure do~! Not a lot of it, but the ones I have written are pretty stellar, if I do say so myself. 😏
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
Not yet, but I actually have one in the works currently: a 9-1-1/9-1-1: Lone Star agere crossover with Little!Buck and Little!TK (and daddies Bobby and Owen, of course).
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Unfortunately, yes. Twice. From the same person.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yup! A couple of them. It's been so long tho, so I can't remember which ones they were. I think one or two were Black Butler, and one or two were Supernatural.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No, but I would like to one day.
14. What's your all time favorite ship?
Wincest and Sebaciel. I can't just choose one of them lol.
15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
I'm staying confident that I'll eventually get all of my WIPs done lol.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I suppose that would be my ability to I guess really get into the head of the character I'm writing; like when it comes to their dialogue and the way they think and act in certain situations. Especially when it's a character from a show I really like and have watched multiple times over.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Describing shit. I've been complimented on it before, but from my perspective it's never all that great in my eyes. I also have a bad habit of comparing myself to other writers I look up to, so maybe that's really where my true weakness lies. I'm trying to better myself in that area, but it's easier said than done. 😮‍💨
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I don't do it often, but when I'm writing Latin characters or characters of another Nationality/language I like to have them use nicknames from their language to have them refer to their children or partners as. It's really fun and also gives the character a more authentic feel to them.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Black Butler.
20. Favorite fic you've written?
I feel like I've had many favorites, but the first that comes to mind is my Black Butler fic "Fatherly Love." It's one that I hold a great deal of pride for, and even tho it was originally written during a rough time in my life, I still have a lot of good memories from that time too. Specifically the days and nights I would spend on here in the DMs talking with my best friend about it and throwing ideas/headcanons back and forth with each other.
Tagging (if you wanna): @angelique-of-the-volturi-guard, @snarkythewoecrow, @tomwise, @deevotee, @bat-to-da-robs, @sinninghowlter and anyone else who wants to join!
