☆ ALICIA’S MONTHLY MEDIA MENTIONS: June `22
hello! as promised, I’m back with another monthly media mentions post! June has been a bit of a crazy month - I got another job (which I actually like - hooray!), my grandma is staying over and needs taking care of, my sister crashed the car LMFAO, and I’ve just been trying to help out around the house a bit more. unfortunately I didn’t create as much art as I wanted to - most of my time was consumed editing that damn art critique video (like literal weeks). but, this is the media that got me through a tough month! cheers to another summer ☀️

Umbrella Academy (season 3)
this show is so gd entertaining. I think I finished this season in 2 days? it was great! super fun scenes and special moments between characters. Robert Sheehan and Ritu Arya are perfect for their roles - Ritu especially is so charismatic and I hope to see her in more projects!
Street Woman Fighter
I'm not sure why I didn’t watch the episodes as they came out last year, but I’m so mad I didn’t! these ladies slay and I'm so happy that dancers have been getting more recognition through this show. I want Monica to be my mom and Lip J to be my auntie. everyone in this show is so COOL I can’t even describe how awestruck I am with them all. Aiki - give me one chance PLEASE

I've tried to watch this show a few times - with my sister, by myself, but for some reason or another did not continue watching it. I restarted it again because my lovely friend loves it and recommended I watch it - so I did :) it’s super cute and also has me missing my volleyball days >:(
Stranger Things (season 4)
I'm sure this has been on a lot of people’s watchlist - I actually wasn’t planning on watching this season, but saw the clip from that one scene in ep 4 and I changed my mind. Either this or season 3 has been the best so far, but I can’t say just yet because I’m still waiting on the second part! Sadie sink supremacy.

I didn’t like RUN2U the first time I heard it, which is why it took me some time to listen to the album. but the STAYC girls don’t disappoint. I love the guitar and the feeling of nostalgia I get when I listen to YOUNG LUV. 247 and SAME SAME have lovely vocals. RUN2U is also growing on me, but I will say I do like their other title tracks better in comparison.

I had kept getting recommended this song in my YouTube home page and later realized it was because it was featured in the best scene of Stranger Things ever. Lyrics hit, music hits. I want to listen to this as I sit and cry during blue hour.

kind of gives Disney channel diss track, but slaps nonetheless!! oh how I missed listening to new BTS music. Rapline killed it!

why does this man make such sad music. I'm so interested in how he shifted his career and image. another track I’d like to cry to. also, this music video has such a frightening, chaotic energy, but the way it progresses towards the climax of the song is surprisingly moving. 10/10

this song is so gd fun to listen to. I was too young to get into Y2K era artists, but this song in particular brings its revival full force.

I was looking back at photos from my trip to New York back in 2018 and found some from when I visited the MOMA. Got to see some of Bruce Nauman’s neon light art pieces. I wish I could go back - I think I would have appreciated the opportunity more.

legitimately insane how to some people, "we should wipe out this ethnic group that we've violently constrained to a ghetto because they're just genetically more violent and dangerous" is a reasonable and justifiable statement but it's Nazi Rhetoric to say something like, "it's bad that Israeli civilians are being killed but acknowledging that as tragic includes acknowledging that the almost daily state-sanctioned murder of civilians by the Israeli government is also tragic and unacceptable"
btw guys speaking of Nazi shit - can we check in, alongside what's been done to Palestinians in the last 75 years, what's the Israeli government's take on the Azerbaijani government's newest round of ethnic cleansing of Armenians? oh are the Israeli government's actions maybe not determined by Jewish identity, but by a commitment to colonial supremacy which puts them on the same page as other violently genocidal states like Azerbaijan, the US, and the UK? god can you Even Imagine?

framing Israeli war crimes as synonymous with Jewish identity is pretty fucked up if we're being honest. I don't think that controlling water and power and movement for a captive population and shooting children dead for throwing stones is an inherent value of Judaism, any more than I think the torture carried out at Guantanamo Bay is an inherent value of Christianity - in both cases they're atrocities carried out by a far right genocidal government using religious identity as a shield.
Calling statements like "Israel is committing genocide against the people it's displaced" inherently antisemitic is doing more to further the idea that all Jewish people are associated with Israel than saying "the Israeli government is doing war crimes," which is a statement of fact about a country that exists and does war crimes. Is criticism of Israel as a nation often used as cover for antisemitism? Absolutely. Does that mean the Israeli government isn't doing literal war crimes repeatedly, on record, while talking publicly about scrubbing an ethnic group off the map? Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh well in the last 48 hours they've definitely cut off water and power to almost 600,000 civilians and allegedly used white phosphorus against civilians so in an extremely factual and unambiguous way yeah man those are Literal War Crimes whoever does them.)

Honestly though, this (what Ashe is pointing out) is exactly why I don't think GW could possibly end well. There's no "talking it over" after all the bloodshed (especially bloodshed started by them, and especially bloodshed started by them that didn't have to happen).
The way the narration leaves it "open" too at the end of GW just comes across as "it failed". It feels like... a kind of pointless story?
And I know some people might think that since Dimitri personally isn't as deeply affected by losing Matthias and so might be willing, that's still no good if his people and closest allies aren't. Rodrigue and Sylvain wouldn't be so forgiving, and I do think Dimitri would follow suit because that's his father (Rodrigue)'s closest friend and one of his own closest friends' father.
Add that to the fact that they have Sreng to deal with still (and I imagine sooner or Sylvain would figure out that Leicester had a hand in provoking Sreng to attack Faerghus) on top of losing Matthias and I imagine all the stress and aggravation wouldn't bode well for Leicester as far as Claude's thinking of things working out goes.
I just really can't see where GW goes afterward that would be "good" or works in Claude's favor at all. Maybe that was the intention and it was meant to be a route with a completely tragic ending, but apparently there are players who think it would end well and whatnot and I just can't see that happening (both from Faerghus' end and from Adrestia's end, the latter of which Claude discussed within GW itself).
If their intention was for a totally tragic ending, like yeah, I can see that... but as always the writing muddies the waters to make it sound good while something bad is happening. It keeps trying to have a positive spin on bad things as if they're just afraid to commit to a fully bad ending.
#DCB Three Hopes Run#also to be specific the reason I just call Rodrigue his father outright is bc he refers to him as a “second father” in Houses#but I'm not gonna literally write “his second father” every time I mention it and honestly “adoptive father” doesn't work for me either#bc him being an adoptive sort of parent doesn't make the fact that he /is/ a parent to him any less valid#like a parent is a parent and I don't feel the need to point that out and the feeling is mutual between them#if Rodrigue is literally calling him ''my boy'' it's a pretty cut and dry parent/child relationship#obviously I'm using Houses context in this case but it's still accurate in Hopes#and I just can't see losing Matthias going over smoothly at all and things getting better with time#I mean Matthias is such a major player in Faerghus and so important that I just can't see them being like#well it was only /one/ important bigwig who died. like no it was one important bigwig saving a whole lot of lives#who is also very intelligent and has a deep say in politics. that's ofc not counting#as Ashe says here in AM in reference to Adrestia that they've killed so much on both sides bc of the war#that he can't imagine just sitting and talking now. just because we as players only saw one named character die#and just because that character wasn't a playable character nor a returning character we already knew and loved#doesn't mean hundreds if not thousands more didn't die in Leicester's invasion#like Ashe says here I just don't see how both sides could sit and talk after all that#esp since Sylvain would prob be involved and uh... Sylvain is... a very emotional and angry person#and extremely vengeful (and they rly leaned into that side of him in Hopes in all routes)#I canNOT imagine talks with him involved not getting heated and aggressive#and he'd /have/ to be there bc he's the Margrave now in GW. if they want to have important talks like that#they need all their major players which like even if Felix say wasn't there#Rodrigue has basically equal authority as Felix bc Rodrigue has the respect of experience and has proven himself#so they could be swapped out for talks and Felix being the ''official'' Duke wouldn't affect talks in the least#if Rodrigue was/had to be present instead. with Sylvain you've either got no other options#or you've got Miklan who I can't imagine would want to even get involved with all of that#both bc of his mixed feelings on Matthias but also bc he's been out of the political atmosphere for so long#so yeah I uh... can't... see talks ever going well unless Claude legitimately makes amends somehow#or Houses Claude gets in there smacks him around and fixes some shit before heading back to his own verse lol

also it's stupid that the mark forces you to murder and if you don't, it kills you (except it doesn't). why do we need to force dean to be violent and do murder under penalty of death (which doesn't even come up in s10) when we could instead just fuck with his head and make him angry and paranoid to the point of killing his friends.

#concepts#i was thinking about those ridiculous protestant / puritan names and also guard dog archetypes and—yeah. yeahhh#six hundred kilometers is a true one actually. years ago my grand-aunt had this one dog—Dima. he'd gotten old and then during routine#the vet tech found a cancerous tumour in his bowels. she couldn't bear to watch him die so#in his endless wisdom my eldest uncle decided they should drive the dog very far away from home; make him comfortable; leave him there.#so they did. so they drove out a little over six hundred kilometers#because within a 300~350km RANGE around us they were sure he'd be able to find his way back#since he'd been going around w her everywhere his whole life#well. what do you know? Dima came back.#looking dirty and exhausted but the good boy made his way back#he lived longer than they thought he would too—for about one more year. died quietly with his head in her lap.#i'm very fine about this story obviously : )

#legitimately traumatized me for life#pretty sure i felt no way about bugs up until that point in fact beetles were my favorite to grab &play with in my kindergarten's... garten#sorry#there were hundreds of them running around everywhere on the floor. i have no recollection of what happened next or later that evening#apparently it was because of the hot weather & something about the bus that made it so that all those roaches escaped & dispersed everywher#still feel sickened when i hear that bus company to this day#Events That Formed My Sundowning Neurosis. soon as the lights dim i turn into a purely atavistic prey aminal#it happened again when i was with my cousin in the summer when my mother sent us out to get something from teh bodega#& my cousin was like trying to reassure me that no roaches were crawling up my legs but there actually were#it was just too dark to make out until we reached a lamp post O_O that was years & years ago BTW#IDC that they are harmless i wrote this post because there was one in my bathroom just now & all i could do was scream for help#apparently barely cos i was told it was a “pathetic scream” i was Paralyzed !!!! they were like what would you do if you lived by yourself#literally Die & let that thang take over my house IDKcaus i am not going anywhere near it#AUUURRRGHHHH go away pleeeaase. let Us be civil OK leave me alone please leave me alooone ( that one video )#i have no fear of bees or wasps or whatever other ones libellules i forgot what the name was in english. oh dragonfly. hey friends I have a petition for you if you have the time!!!!!!!!!
I follow this person on tiktok named WheelieErin who has the same neuromuscular disease as me!!!! They're working with an organization called Friends of Medicare to pressure the Canadian government (where they live) to prioritize home care spending in the next budget!!!!!!
This is very important for people like us because nursing care is the only way we're allowed to live independent lives like everyone else!!!!! Erin goes to school full time and lives in the dorms, I have a job, a mortgage, a cat, an in-progress writing career, and of course a beautiful life online!!!!!!! Without nursing care, neither of us would be able to pursue our dreams or have a life because we'd be stuck in institutions "staring at blank walls all day" as Erin so eloquently put it in their video (which I encourage you to watch here!)
You can sign the petition here! You don't have to live in Canada for it to be valid. Disability rights are everyone's rights, and making sure home health care is well-funded everywhere solves a lot of problems even abled adults have on their minds! Have you ever worried that you won't have anyone to take care of you when you're old without kids? Voila! Funding home care is the answer!!!!! Disabled voices don't mean much in the political sphere, but if this is seen as a widespread issue that EVERYONE supports, it'll have a much better chance at being taken seriously!
I really appreciate y'all for doing this! Even in the US, disabled people are critically understaffed because home care simply does not pay their staff and often doesn't even offer benefits, despite being more and more in-demand every year (even I am critically understaffed and have to have my family help more than I would like)!!!! This is both a labor issue and disability issue, as things usually are, so please consider spreading this as well. The more people who see this, the better!
