i have so many thoughts on why it seems like kevin's experience after leaving the nest was different. my main thought being that we just don't get to see it. neil joins the foxes months after kevin does and in the beginning he only interacts with kevin during practice, so that explains part of it.
in son nefes we only see kevin as he relates to exy or andrew (lmao). but also kevin spent his first month or so with wymack, so whatever might have been there we simply don't get to see. the extra content says that he only took his coat and wallet when he left the nest, and that in his first few months he struggled with missing his team, his inability to play, and with doubting his decision to leave.
kevin also spent longer than jean in the nest, timeline-wise it seems to have been closer to a decade, and if 5 years was enough to make jean forget the previous 14... sure, kevin was afforded slightly more decencies than jean - he had a car (who knows how often he got to use it), he had to travel for press reasons, and he had more clothes i guess. but taking it all into account we have no reason to assume it was easy for him.
but we just don't see a lot of kevin's struggles period. we don't see his thoughts we don't see all the ways in which his trauma manifests we don't see what other coping mechanisms he has besides drinking. the night training could partially be that but again. we don't know.

Kevin Day and his Oblivious Literature Lover, pt.V
Let’s all repeat after me: therapizing our faves helps us therapize ourselves! If Kevin can get better, maybe we all can... right?
>>Table of Contents, TW and other parts here!
the water runs behind the bathroom door for so long that Kevin spaces out in his spot on the floor, losing himself in thoughts about the Foxhole Court (surprise, surprise)
Juliet comes out at last an hour later, freshly showered, her hair wet and springy, her face even paler than before
she goes to rummage through her tiny dresser, slow and silent like a dead walker, and pulls out multiple clothes before going back into the humidity of the bathroom
she finally comes out into the room a few minutes later, dressed in clean sweatpants and multiple t-shirts and sweaters
the one on top is a simple, XXL black hoodie with the PSU logo on the front, in washed out orange
Kevin unconsciously thinks that the blindingly bright orange Exy hoodies the Foxes have would suit her so much better
happy colors help happy thoughts, right?
(who said that again? was it Nicky? he was probably talking about the gay flag anyways...)
Kevin is pulled from his thoughts when Juliet trudges over to her bed, lets herself fall in it and sluggishly pulls on blue fuzzy socks to warm her cold feet
he slighlty turns to look up at Juliet, and they start a staring contest from where they each sit
but Kevin soon realizes that not everything is a contest, and not everyone exists to challenge him, and Juliet isn’t the Foxes
because she barely lasts 2 seconds before lowering her gaze to her hands, shoulders tensing and fingers picking at dry skin
however, as Kevin keeps feeling out of his depth and thinks about just leaving right there and then, Juliet quietly mumbles
“If I talk, will you talk too?”
Kevin’s first thought is “I don’t have shit to say and I sure as hell wouldn’t give you dirt on me,” and it clearly shows on his face
lucky for him, Juliet’s head is still lowered, so he has time to force himself out of his fight-or-flight relfex
she isn’t the Foxes, she isn’t the Ravens, she isn’t the Foxes, she isn’t the Ravens, she-
but still, what if she is? what if this is all a scam?
but then again, he looked for her, he found her, he spent the night, he is asking... if anyone’s nosy in all this, it’s him
it feels like at the point where he is, where they are, he’s acted far from his usual, asshole self, and he just wants to keep going... it feels good not to fight
“Yes, I will talk. If the subject stays within the limits of what I’m willing to talk about. You should do so yourself,” Kevin states, not quite softly, but not quite sharply either, like he usually does
Juliet anxiously nods, still not looking up
the silence settles back between them, the room heavy with dread, fear and awkwardness
after a while, Juliet speaks up, barely above a whisper, but in the quiet of her room, it feels like her words ring in Kevin’s ears
“If I google you right now, what am I going to find?”
and shit
anything but that
he wants to hold on so bad, just a little while more, to this nobody he’s managed to keep up with Juliet
because if she knows... then everything he’s managed to keep at bay when he’s with her will come rushing back over him, and over her too
and he doesn’t want that
it’s not shame, it’s not pride
it’s pure fear
“You are going to see very ugly things,” is all he responds, face blank and emptily staring at the wall
inside, though, it stings to say those words. because it isn’t totally the truth. exy is his pride, his reason to live, his air to breathe. but if she finds out about exy, she will also learn about the violence, the multiple “accidents”, she’ll know about Riko...
and if she knows about Riko, she’s one step closer to Riko knowing about her
“Kevin. When you say ‘ugly’, you mean you’ve had a shitty life so far, or you mean you’ve killed many people? Because you’re the man who slept on my floor all night and I’m alone, and I’m very afraid right now.”
of course he fucked it up one question in
what is he supposed to say, though? ‘Of course I’m not a murderer, but my owners are’ ?
and the more he thinks about the correct answer to give, the more he looks like he’s searching for an excuse and the more Juliet is retreating into the corner of her bed
“Fuck, no. It means that half the cards I’ve been dealt with are extremely good, and the other half is very, very fucked up. And it’s all over the Internet. And the things that you won’t find there are the ugliest. Ugly secrets that make me even more unlikeable to my... roommates, and our classmates. A walking asshole on a stick.”
Juliet stops moving
“That’s… quite the load of bullshit, Kevin. I won’t look, okay? I promise you. But you said truth for truth. That is not a truth. But... you also said we don’t have to answer if we don’t want to. Kevin, you don’t have to. I’ll take your word that you’re not a serial killer. I’ll haunt you if you are, though. I’ll make all your spoons disappear. And kick you in your sleep.”
Kevin didn’t know how to react
it was so… easy
too easy
just like that, the subject was dropped
no pushing, no threatening knife, no mood swing
now it was his turn
somehow he could only think of Matt, of Aaron and their nights out at Eden’s, of Seth…
“Are you on drugs?” was out of his mouth before he could be careful of his tone
it sounded severe, accusing
yet Juliet did not react, not even a little bit
she just kept on looking at him, letting the silence pressure him into guiltily babbling his excuse
“I’ve seen these signs before, okay! And heard about them too. I know what addiction looks like. The sickly pale skin, the mess, the absences, the shutdowns. Don’t look at me like that.”
“Like what.”
“Like a wounded animal.”
his tone was harsh enough to resemble the attitude he usually reserved for the Foxes
and he knew he’d been too rough when it caused Juliet to draw in a shaky breath
“Wow, you’re really good at that… Ever considered being a detective or a life coach? You’re actually not far from the truth… Jesus,” Juliet exhaled. “I do take drugs. Antidepressants. Strong ones. And I ran out this week. I don’t have the money. You’re currently witnessing a withdrawal combined with a depressive episode. Impressive, huh?”
her voice was so devoid of emotions Kevin was reminded once again of Andrew…
except that her face was a mirror cracked open, her pain palpable in the air between them
his first instinct was to reply ‘What’s wrong with you?’, because he genuinely wanted to know why she had to take such heavy medication at her age, and why she couldn’t afford it anymore, but he willed himself to let the words die on his tongue; try not to be a fuckup this time, will you?
however, before Kevin could formulate his thought correctly, the silence overworked Juliet too and she filled it with her story...
“I was diagnosed with dysthymia a couple of months ago. I’ve basically been stuck in a dark cloud since I was like, 15. Never went away. Wasn’t ‘serious’ enough to get medical attention, like the docs said. Fast forward last winter, I had a complete nervous breakdown at my workplace. It was pretty ugly. 911, ambulance, psych ward, psych eval, pills, and other… things. Oh, and a fuckload of bills. Even my scholarship doesn’t cover all of that. So I tried to make my prescriptions last longer by taking my medication every other day, which… Well, not recommended by your local psychiatrist. Last weekend I had to choose between groceries or pills. Now my body is missing its drugs and I’m missing major classes. So…  Ta-da…” she told Kevin, her arms slowly moving as if to present a show.
Kevin was speechless
not because he was shocked, or because he pitied her, or because he was disgusted
he was speechless because of the anger that choked him from inside
he felt such a rage at the idea that Juliet couldn’t receive the help she needed, the care she deserved
he was speechless because as anger consumed him, he realized that it was the same anger he’d felt when Jean was given back to him in pieces
he was speechless because he cared too much, now
he hadn’t even seen it coming
if Juliet were to be pulled away now, it’d feel like pulling every stitches he ever had
and all it had taken was a few months

Marinette did Not sign up for this part 5
so, this happened. i would feel bad, but the characters hijacked this story after chapter 1 and i’m just along for the ride and checking that words makes sense.
First part here Previous Here ao3 Here
--
“Hey Alya, you haven’t been getting more hits on your blog from Gotham lately, have you?” Marinette asked.
Alya rolled her eyes as honestly, could her bestie be any less obvious? She could see the “new” necklace. The one that only shows up when Multimouse is on call. Honestly—why is it everyone keeps thinking she doesn’t know who’s who? She’s the Fox—Illusions and Truth are her bread and butter.
“Now that you mention it,” Alya pulled up her latest stats. “Yes. The whole site—jeez these guys must have just found out and want the scoop from the best source in Paris,” Alya preened.
Marinette acted… different after she got that answer. Moved in on herself. Alya could feel the attempt at a cover-up before she even asked.
“Hey, is something up?”
“Nothing! Nothing is up, why would something be up! Ha, that’s a good one Alya!”
Ah, the miraculous-related tic was in full swing then. Marinette isn’t exactly the most in-the-know miraculous user, and the Mouse is always taken back after its been used. She could be forgiven for assuming Alya, the expert in all things Miraculous second only to the Original duo and their boss, would not know that something was going on in a certain spotted heroine’s life, and it was all hands on deck.
“Okay,” Alya switched to her theory notes, “Any new names to add to the ‘would not be surprised if they were Hawkmoth’ list?” Marinette is a goldmine on this topic, and while miraculous adjacent, definitely able to ease the whole ‘not in control’ and helpless feelings this situation was probably stirring in her girl. She knew it was for herself atleast.
Marinette perked up with a familiar ‘I know what you will say, but lets do this anyway’ type of sly smile. “Okay, so we do agree that it has to be someone that knows Gabriel’s schedule and doesn’t want to interfere with it for the most part, right?”
“Well,” Alya wasn’t letting this hunch go anytime soon, no matter what LB and Chat said about evidence against. She knew she was onto something with it, and for all she knew, some miraculous magic could be interfering. “I still say it could be him and Natalie taking turns, but that doesn’t rule them both out.”
Marinette shot Alya a look, of the ‘I strongly disagree, but feel it is futile to remind you why’ variety.
“I’m kidding, your boss isn’t Hawkmoth, I know… He’d totally have better designs for akumas if he was.”
Marinette leaned forward conspiratorially. “You should have seen him tear into the Bubbler one when I brought it up as an example of horrible design. His face was perfect!”
Alya would love to imagine the many, many ways to torment Gabriel after what she and Nino have come to understand about the man from their friends. Ranging from negligent and uninvolved control freak at best to manipulative, victim-blaming, and abusive POS. If Adrien and Marinette were a little less attached (re: not pedestalling the man so much), then she could get them to see the truth and they could go over the pair’s options to get them both away from his BS and make the man pay for the all the crap he put Adrien through, and was starting to put Marinette through. Why else would the girl be running herself ragged—especially the past week—if the man wasn’t a demanding asshole boss?
“That’s great, next time, get a pic or vid and share the love.”
“I will, so I met another one of his suppliers and…” Alya began to take vicious notes, glad for Marinette’s attention to detail on these things. It made looking for possible Hawkmoths much easier on her and Max—yes she knows who Pegasus and Cowboy are, Markov in a hat is still Markov in a hat. It was a wonder that no one else noticed.
Alya grinned when she saw Trixx peek out of her hiding place, a wide smile that reminded her exactly why Alya could catch everyone’s identity while her friends still hadn’t put together she’s Rena; a Fox casts illusions. To do that well, you have to learn to seek and see the truth, and get your evidence. And Alya? Is a damn good fox.
----------
Tim hates his stupid insane list of designers. He managed to knock of half by using his own damn filters, thank you very much for dominant genes from the Wayne side that could be seen visually. It knocked out a good chunk (about two thousand out of five thousand) on hair alone. He decided he would let it keep running for those that linked their socials to their psueds and aliases.
The problem was the handful (about ten) that didn’t. He’d have to meet them in person, used his glasses to get pictures, and run those against social media posts in Paris to find out who these more private designers were—all to find out if they really are in the right age range, and if their natural features do put them in the ‘likely a Wayne’ category for Wayne dominant traits (and those possible given Bruce’s own DNA makeup, which he doesn’t know Tim has. Hey, he’s the Robin that Gets Shit Done, never said he was the polite one. That’s Dick’s job, not his.)
---------
Adrien hates not having Plagg with him. Not that Tikki isn’t great and all! Really! Just… he misses him and his stinky cheese, okay?
“Adrien,” Natalie knocked on the door.
“Come in.”
Natalie entered the doorway, but no further. “When is Marinette free for consultations next? we have a high end client who would like to commission her as soon as possible.”
“Give me a minute…” Adrien checked his ‘overseeing Marinette’ schedule on his phone. “Uh, she has walk-ins around four until five tomorrow.”
“Excellent. Will she be at her home or the studio Gabriel has provided for consultations?” By her tone, he could tell which Natalie and Father would prefer.
“Let me check with her.”
“See that you do.”
Adrien sent a lipstick, X arm lady, and house emoji to Marinette.
In a minute she sent back a thumbs up and apartment building emoji.
“Studio it is.”
Natalie nodded. “Excellent choice. I will let them know to be there at four ten, given Marinette’s… difficulty arriving on time.”
Adrien grimaced a bit on that as yeah… no longer having a Danger sense meant her punctuality was… not very good.  “Are they speaking to Marinette or MDC?”
He’d need to know if he should just pick her up or not. MDC didn’t have to get picked up—designers to celebrities are allowed to be late and can blame it on getting caught up in a few details on a commission design for a walk-in consultation. Marinette was tied to the Gabriel Brand and needed to reflect that, therefore, be there on time and ready.
“Marinette for now, though they expressed an interest in MDC as a budding designer, and they are well within the MDC price range,” Natalie hinted.
Adrien kept the hiss growing in the back of throat quiet. Marinette chooses who MDC works with, not his Father.
--------
Stephanie is both delighted and upset when she sees Cass. As its Cass—she probably figured it out already damn it!—but its Cass and she missed her since she left a few months back for a mission and got caught up in the Chinese crime scene again.
“Hey Cass!”
Cass grinned when she saw Steph and made her way over.
“Found her!”
Stephanie was gutted. She really wanted to win, just this once, at a detective thing. You know, be the normal one that managed to out-do the prodigies and geniuses. Not to be again. “Oh, that’s great. Where is the baby bat?”
Cass shook her head. “Not her, Soup Girl.”
Stephanie opened and shut her mouth. Then lit up as she still has a chance! “Oh, right—right! You said you wanted to meet her a while back.”
Cass nodded. “Her family is nice.”
“Did you talk to her or…”
Cass shook her head. “Busy.”
“Ah.” That made sense. “Well, uh, still competing?”
Cass raised an eyebrow. That was a yes.
“Maybe we should work on helping her on the hero side of things together, you know, so we don’t freak her out when we all swarm her place. Make the whole thing a bit less…”
“Dramatic.”
Stephanie nodded. It would help ease the girl into the family, and keep Cass on that case instead of finding Baby Bat for a bit. Win-Win for Stephanie and Baby Bat.
-------------
Chatte Noire really, really hates dealing with akumas. She's built for strategy, to see tricky parts and work out how to make them safer for the team and minimize risk. She is not made to be Chatte Noire. Yet here she is, in an akuma attack, trying to play the role of a Black Cat—identify and destroy threats to the team. Problem is, she lacks Chat Noir's heightened ability to sense danger. In fact, she lacks it completely--and she knows the team isn't happy.
The attack is taking longer than it would if she was Ladybug. This would be over if she had just managed to keep her big mouth shut and not talked to Aquaman. Then the Justice League wouldn’t be involved. Then the whole promise to Murder Robin would not be broken and Paris would already be saved for the day instead of dealing with another Sandboy attack going on well into the night, with a cure that won’t be able to handle fatigue, energy renewal or relax the body for sleep post ‘I’m scared out of my mind’ fear.
She made sure to avoid this Sandboy’s attacks and she would save whoever got caught. Her Cataclysms may not be as strong as Chat’s (his do make the whole thing go away) but she is just as quick on her feet and just as good at getting civilians out of danger.
“Chatte!”
“On it Buggaboy! And not yet!”
It was too off for the Lucky Charm. They’d need Viperion, and he was stuck underwater with Aquaman trying to get him out at the moment. Until then, she just had to minimize damage, keep civilians away from their nightmares hunting them down, and keep moving and planning and work everything out while playing bodyguard for the team at Cha—At Mr. Bug’s call.
She hopes things turn out okay.
Then she sees a bat symbol and the world vanishes.
----------
Red Hood blinked when he saw some girl running around on rooftops in… Isn’t Chat Noir supposed to be the cat one? Where the hell is Ladybug—and why is some guy in her place? Shit, did the baby bat lose her miraculous or was it stolen? Damnit, now he has to steal it back for her!
“Okay, how did LB get hit when she isn’t even here?” The fox girl groaned as she dodged another attack. “Aren’t these guys supposed to go after who’s scared of them?”
The bee girl rolled her eyes. “More than just Ladybug can be terrified of the bats. They’re the Ghosts, remember?”
“Hey, can we argue about fears and who has rights to them some other time?” fake ladybug asked, flinching and moving closer to the Turtle guy. “Uh, Chatte, that way!”
Cat girl—Chatte— said something he didn’t catch and grabbed a kid stuck in a mob and bounce out.
“I—” the boy threw his hands up. “We’re screwed. She really, really isn’t getting the whole Cat thing.”
Red Hood pulled out his guns, checking that the darts were loaded and aiming for Spots.
“Chatte---guy with a gun!”
This time cat girl managed to look over and froze. She started… hyperventilating? Shit—kid’s having an attack.
Red Hood lowered his gun and made sure to get closer to her---seeing as the other heroes—Dragon girl, Monkey boy and Snake Guy were busy with the bee and fox girls trying to circle some kid on a pillow. No clue where the other kid in black was, but the cat girl losing it? that was his current focus.
“Kid, come on, breathe.”
“Oh my—” the kid looked at him like he was the threat. “Fuck, no—I shouldn’t have talked back to---shit. Shit, now I’m gonna—”
“VOYAGE!”
Just like that, Red Hood was dropped into Gotham harbor. Jason didn’t even get to look around to see what happened. He did manage to tread water and work out which was to go to get to shore.
“Oracle!”
“Jesus Hood—sending Robin to your location. What happened?”
“Some kids stole baby bats’ jewels, some akuma attack, the actual cat thief was hyperventilating and then I end up here.”
“Oh, B is not going to like this.”
“I already don’t like it.” Batman growled out over comms. “Did someone say voyage?”
Red Hood wracked his somewhat waterlogged brain. “In French, yes.”
“One of the local heroes.” Jason could feel Bruce’s annoyance. “Why were you in Paris.”
“Well,” Red Hood kept swimming to shore. “When you find out a long lost bat is in life threatening danger, one must locate and meet this possible winner of the ‘avoided having crappy parents raise me’ lottery to give a well-earned ‘congrats, you’re a well-adjusted person in a family of crimefighter! Mazel tav.”
“Hood.” Robin began on a private channel. “We need to talk.”
“Gotta go B, life to live, baby bat to find.”
“Red Hood!”
“Bye!” Red Hood climbed out of the harbor, finding his baby brother on his motorcycle that was definitely not Bruce-Approved.
“What’s up buttercup, didja miss me?”
Robin scowled at him. “Of course not, the world is more peaceful without the drivel that falls out of your mouth.”
Red Hood snorted. “Yeah, and that’s why you hide in my room all the time.”
Robin refused to make eye contact, shoving Red Hood onto his bike. “Is it true, did my sister lose her miraculous?”
“Unless she’s B and Catwoman’s lovechild and she decided to embrace it.”
Robin was quiet on the way to the cave. “…how long would it take to get the pilot to return and take me to Paris?”
“…you’d make it there around their in time for dessert.”
Robin frowned. “that’s not soon enough.”
“Closest you’ll get. And don’t’ think you’re going alone.”
Robin frowned. “I am not exposing my sister to you.”
“She’s our sister first of all,” Red Hood corrected. “and second of all, I have a bet to win, and I’m behind thanks to this portal guy. So I’m coming.”
Robin rolled his eyes. “Only if you get past Father and Alfred.”
“You wouldn’t dare.”
Robin smirked as they pulled into the Batcave.
“Father, I believe Red Hood needs your full attention given he was in the harbor for so long, and we all know how cold they are this time of year.”
Jason decided Damian was by and far his least favorite sibling in that moment. “Wait, B, no, look—no signs of hypothermia, no shaking, just need to change and—”
“I will check and ensure you don’t develop it with Alfred on standby.”
Jason glared at Damian, already stripping from his Robin gear with that self-satisfied smirk. “Traitor!”
“I simply want what is best for my siblings, how is that wrong?”
----------
I hope this gave you all a good idea of what’s going to happen next… I do love the Batfam and all, but some of their approaches here… no good and need to have that hit over their head.
And if I’m screwing up ladybats characterization, feel free to let me know so I can fix it---going off what I could find from DC fans and lore but I also do not know these characters inside and out, and want to do them justice.
OH and for anytime i refrence princess Justice, got a refrence for you now! picture the one made by @tinymelonbug right here with the only (maybe?) change being that below the cut it is cut off as a romper: Here

Andreil Fic Rec
I’ve always wanted to do a fic rec so here we are! I’ve read a lot of Andreil recently and these are my top 28 favorite Andreil and AFTG fics

7. The Unloved Kids by AlrightDarlin
35k | Not Rated
“I intend to treat them the same. I need strong athletes, not toddlers,” Wymack starts, but sits back with a sigh, running a hand over his face. “But hypothetically, if I had to look after a bunch of toddlers on the weekends…”
Betsy’s eyes crinkle with her smile. “Are you asking advice?”
“They’re screwed up enough,” Wymack says, “I’m not trying to make it worse.”
(David Wymack takes his little nightmares and does his best to corral them and love them within an inch of their lives. He can’t change what happened to them, but he can be there for them now.)
8. Turn it Off by elawless
10k | Mature
“It hurts…so much…too…much” He choked out between breaths. “I want to let go so…bad. I am so close”. He lifted his head to look at Andrew and saw no blue in his eyes and believed Andrew was real, but the rest of the pain was. It was just enough for him to trust Andrew with what he would say next.
“Stay. Give me Neil back. Don’t leave.” Andrew could no longer cover all of his desperation, his voice seemed to crack on the last word.
“Just let me turn it off. Just for today. Neil will come back. Bring him back, for the both of you.”
9. VW Actually Means “Very Weird” by exyjunkies
15k | Gen

“Here’s what I propose: we’ll play a game, and I’ll even let you pick which one, but we’re going to set some stakes. I’m not going to let you talk big and walk away free of punishment if you lose.” Without hesitating, Kevin asked, “Fine, I choose Trivial Pursuit. What are the stakes?” Allison put a finger to her lips and tilted her head, as if she was actually thinking of a response and didn’t plan this whole thing days ago. “Hmm, did you know the spirit store recently added fox themed thigh-high socks to their stock? They’ve become quite popular amongst cheerleaders.” This statement seemed to throw Kevin off because he just stared blankly at Allison until she continued. Andrew was not, however, an idiot. He could see where this was going. “How about whoever loses has to wear the socks for an entire school day; including morning and evening practices?” “Holy shit,” Nicky whispered. “You are one devious bitch.” Allison winked.
13. ain’t no rest for the wicked by dearhappy
8k | Teen | Lucifer!AU
“You really expect me to believe that?“ Neil asks, "Especially when his girlfriend said that he’d always been worried about what you’d ask for in return, and that he called you the Devil.”
“I don’t lie,” Andrew says simply. “You can think whatever you want.”
“Why was he so worried if that was all it was?”
“He made a deal with the Devil,” Andrew says, “Tell me you wouldn’t be worried about that.”
14. Not Damsels, not Knights by my_unlikely_hero
93k | Mature
Neil is not a damsel, Andrew is not a knight, Riko is not a dragon. Nobody gets saved. Not really.
Or: Riko goes too far, and Neil is left in pieces.
15. The Continuing Adventures of the Nine-Nine by gluupor
48k | Gen | Series | Brooklyn 99!AU

AU!Football (Aareil!Andreil), Part 1.
I feel quite angry because yesterday I spent hours writing pieces of this, so that suddenly the light goes out in my urbanization and EVERYTHING I wrote is erased. fuckin 'shit. Now, again, I come back to this because it really is an idea that has not left me alone all day yesterday (and today). In itself, it is an AU in which instead of the Foxes being an Exy team, they are now Football, except Neil, who will now be a Vixen.
This will be like a light introduction to the characters.
Here the sport of Football is mixed, so the alignment will be the same as in the canon, except that Neil will be a cheerleader and Seth will be alive and occupy his 'position'.
Kevin will continue to be an obsessive sportsman who plays with an injury to his left hand (because of Riko), but will recover. Seth is less asshole here, because I admit that a certain part of me liked the character and I want to give it a try, but it will still have its sassy bitch side (not really homophobic).
(Seth and Allison are not in relationship romantic here, but they are best friends; Renee and Allison are girlfriends).
(The Moriyama here are not any kind of mafia or anything like that, only a high-ranking business family; and Riko is just a jerk. Do not worry).
Allison and Dan are still wild and loyal to theirs, and with Renee shutting the fucking mouths of all those who still think that a girl can not play a contact sport as well as a guy.
Matt and Nicky are smiling and adorable as always, but protective of their family. Andrew is a little less aggressive than usual with the Foxes (God bless you, Betsy Dobson), but an imbecile with sociopathic instincts as always; is a little closer to them and can engage in small conversations when the Foxes aren't being intrusive (Renee helped a lot to get to this type of 'truce'), and on RARE occasions defended the fools when someone tried to pass with them.
Aaron does change here a little more than the others did, it's something more closed than before in terms of his thoughts and feelings, but he considers the Foxes the true family he never had, although it took a lot to reach this understanding (Nicky , Renee and Betsy fought a lot for this); he is among the first to jump to defend them, although he is usually a asshole with them.
Another radical change is found in the fact that Aaron never sent a letter to Andrew, so they never met or knew of each other's existence until a slightly funny situation occurred at the University; It was something like Nicky strongly confusing Andrew with Aaron, which brought many questions that had no answers until they reunited the twins in the same room (along with a broad search in the family registry and a blood test).
Andrew had just transferred to PSU to continue his career in Criminal Justice, due to certain complications (he savagely beat a professor who tried to hurt Bee) at his previous University; To say that he was stupefied by such a finding would be bullshit, he really expected a strange shit like that of his sanguine 'family', not that he cared more, actually. What he was curious about, with a simple transfer of universities, he had just discovered that he had a twin and a cousin.
At first he stayed away from them as much as he could, he did not care a bit, he just focused on his classes and visiting Bee in his new office (she got a new job at PSU as a psychologist for his athletes).
Until she confused Andrew with Aaron when coach Wymack led his team to meet before her and decide what day it was for each of them to have a session with her. From there she advised Andrew a lot about how well it could make him try to know and approach this part of his family that he did not know, and that they seemed to be alone (besides the Foxes).
It was a complicated and lengthy process that Andrew and Aaron could engage in a long conversation, without monosyllables or sharp and sarcastic answers. From there they were able to reconstruct a bit of family history: Tilda gave both twins up for adoption, only to finally repent a bit and take one of them (Aaron) before finalizing the paperwork, Andrew went to the Foster System (and then to Juvie for his problematic attitude) and Aaron stayed to live with an abusive mother for years (not that Andrew was better in the foster homes), until he met Nicky and after his mother died of an overdose (and a strong argument between Nicky and Luther Hemmick in which the minor finally cut off all relationship with them), Nicky took Aaron's custody (with the help of another distant relative who did not agree with the method of raising of the Hemmick).
Andrew suffered physical and psychological abuse in the homes to which he was given, but was only sexually abused once by Drake Spear when he was thirteen, one year after he was adopted by that family; but on that occasion Drake was caught in the act by the very Cass Spear, who called the police directly.
Destroyed for having failed a child as wonderful and amazing as Andrew was, she moved some contacts to move Andrew to an adoption and help institute where a distant friend of Richard Spear, Betsy Dobson, worked as a psychologist. (And after two years of understanding, fighting and love, Andrew let Betsy finally adopt him).
So, now both twins and cousin are in the process of approaching with help from Betsy (poor of her, with Andrew antagonizing everyone, Aaron being scathing and Nicky very gaudy).
A few months later, and all three of them maintaining a more civilized relationship, Andrew was slightly coerced by Bee (again) to join the football team (which was a fucking trick because Betsy knows there are VERY few things that Andrew can deny her).
(At times, Aaron admits to himself that he feels somewhat jealous of Bee's close and loving way of being with Andrew; he would have loved to have someone like her nearby).
Andrew's expressionless face and slightly psychopathic behavior constantly intimidates the Foxes a bit (except Renee and Wymack, and sometimes Allison), but over time they get used to it.
Aaron does not even like football, but he was violently harassed by sportobsession!Kevin Day to be part of the team after having seen him wildly tackling a son of a bitch who tried to touch Neil Josten (And Nicky happily joined the team to not be alone).
Aaron have a thing with Neil Josten, everyone knows it (except Andrew, because he don't know about Josten).
The day that Andrew Minyard met Neil Josten was fucking memorable for Allison: it was on a type of team-building weekend organized by Dan and Wymack, that they somehow managed to reunite everyone including the twins and Seth (Bee and Abby were really happy).
Then as the day progressed and the afternoon fell, they decided to make a movie marathon in Abby's living room, but before they needed to recharge supplies, so Wymack asked Renee and Allison to take care of it; somehow the trip was joined by Andrew and Seth.
They arrived at 7/11 and set out to collect different types of snacks for everyone; then in one of the corridors Allison spotted a very familiar auburn hair, let out a small squeak of joy and ran over there, alerting Andrew and Renee that they thought there was some threat, only to see the blonde hugging wildly to a short guy.
After leaving the mysterious boy and letting him breathe, Seth also approached and released a sassy comment: 'look just who is here, if it is other than a whore vixen smartass'.
Before any Fox could say anything else, the unknown boy (for Andrew and Renee) counterattacked: 'what's up, drug addict? Have not you received your daily dose, that I notice you something cranky?’
Surprisingly, Seth only grined sideways and stretched out a hand to stir the hair of the boy under: 'how did you do in the competition, midget?'
The auburn boy reply to Seth: 'of course we won, Gordon; nobody compares to us, so I hope you Foxes do not leave us in bad during the season'.
In that Allison jumps and assures with conviction: 'clearly this is our season, Josten, we have two new members who are monsters in the field when they want; we will destroy the asshole of Riko'.
Josten only gave a small laugh at that and nodded in support; and that sound really caught Andrew's attention, that he looked up from the candy shelf to finally see the one who seemed to be friends with Gordon and Reynolds, being stunned.
'Shit,' was the first thought that went through Andrew's mind, followed by 'fucking gorgeous' and 'problem': in front of him was a boy a few inches taller than him, with auburn hair and impossibly blue eyes, like celestial ones. Beautiful. His left cheek had a slight pink burn of three circles, barely visible, and on his right he had three fine cuts; However, not a single one of those scars left any kind of beauty, not even remotely. Even though Andrew's face remained expressionless, an intense blush was staying on his cheeks as he detailed the impressive boy in front of him; he never had seen someone so painfully attractive like Josten.
Allison noticed it (Renee too, but she did not anything).
The blonde took the Vixen's forearm and pulled him closer to the group saying: 'Oh, right! You do not know Renee or Minyard, personally; You never could meet to meet my Renee and Minyard arrived when you were in the competition. Babe, Monster, he's Neil Josten, sub-captain of the Vixens.'
Renee introduced herself and greeted him kindly, curious about the times when his girlfriend talked to him about this boy, Andrew only blushed a little more when Neil looked directly at him but swerved off with a cutting: 'Cheerleader, really?'
Before Allison spoke, Neil responded quickly and sharp: 'What, I do not look like that? Then you'll have to excuse me, I forgot to put on my uniform skirt for you.'
The right corner of Andrew's mouth trembled (the closest thing to a smile that Renee had seen in him): 'so sassy, Vixen.'
A grin formed on Neil's lips: 'so, Andrew Minyard, I could say it's a pleasure to finally meet Aaron's twin, I've heard a lot of things from you'.
Andrew like: 'I bet were not good at all'.
Another short laugh came from Neil's lips: 'no, they were not, but they're still interesting'.
A thought was shared among the other three present in the scene, something like 'fucking weird flirting' (being kinder in Renee's head).
Andrew may only want to kick himself when he felt so trapped looking at Neil's fluffy lips.

Big Bang
So, my big bang posting date was technically the 28, but I was at camp for the last week, and the wifi blocked tumblr and Ao3, and I ended up with a lot less free time than I was supposed to have, and it all boiled down to me not having the time to finish or post my fic by Friday (thanks to me scrapping my first draft completely changing my writing style two weeks before the deadline, because I’m so smart.)
So, my solution is to share little snippets every day until it’s all done, and by the end of the week, the whole fic will be posted. It wasn’t my original intention, but someties life doesn’t go exactly how you want it to.
I want to thank the mods at @aftgbigbang for putting this wonderful event together. I’m so sorry this isn’t exactly how it was supposed to be posted, but thanks for the opportunity anyway.
I also want to thank my wonderful artist @jojen-hewitt . Maaya put up with my crazy schedule and my internet break and made some truly incredible art for this fic, and I am absolutely amazed by everything she did.
So, here are the first ~2000 words. I’m really hoping to have the rest for you as soon as possible.
The mutant games were messy, a violent clash between humans with “extraordinary” abilities trying to prove that they were worth something in a world that only found their value in entertainment.
The games’ creators, Tetsuji Moriyama and Kayleigh Day, were just two mutants who understood the world’s obsession with violence and used it to reserve them a spot in history books. The mutant games were nothing more than a feeble excuse for validity in a cruel world that managed to catch on spectacularly.
They were a perfect convoluted combination of violence and acceptance. In a world overwhelmed by the existence of mutants, the games provided a way to let them exist without being normalized; they gave a marginalized group a voice, but not one strong enough to be heard.
The court was a place of acceptance, but it was still a cage.
It was the perfect setup for Kengo Moriyama: it gave an acceptable outlet for his mutant brother and second born son to succeed without being directly involved with the main branch of the family and provided the best mutants to work for him. It was a sea of profit and power, and he was Poseidon.
Mutants were desperate for the ability to just exist in a society that perceived them as a monster, and Kengo was willing to provide that if they were willing to do his dirty work. He took the best of the players in his brother’s game, used their skills and their ruthlessness, and sent them to work.
One of his favorites was Nathan Wesninski, a man with a taste for blood and an ability to manipulate metal with just his mind. He could slaughter entire buildings full of people without leaving a trace or feeling an ounce of remorse, and he was so useful Kengo could even overlook his involvement with the Hatfords.
The mutants games were useful, and Kengo Moriyama could appreciate useful things.
Nathaniel Wesninski grew up learning his importance was strongly founded in the mutant games. The only way he could exist was if he, along with the other kids on his team, could manage to sustain fewer injuries in the hour they were on the court than the other gaggle of children across from them.
Most eight year-olds played little league soccer and football and thought about running away when their parents made them eat spinach and only changed their names when they were playing make-believe with their friends.
Nath—Alex, was not an average eight-year-old. Alex could change his looks with just a thought, could steal people’s powers if he saw them in use, and could quite literally inhabit other people if he touched them. Alex changed his name almost every other month as he ran around the world with his mother, who could make people think or feel whatever she wanted them to, away from his father, who could manipulate metal. Alex was forced to fight other eight-year-olds who could do who-knows-what, and when he got too good at fighting other mutant eight-year-olds his mother panicked that his dad’s boss was going to kill him, and stole him from a fancy mansion in West Virginia in the middle of the night.
Alex really missed fighting. He would reminisce about it when he was pressed up against his mother with his hand wrapped around the gun under his pillow, living in a place where no one knew that his name wasn’t actually Alex, or Stephan, or Christopher, and where he didn’t quite speak the language. But if you asked him what he wanted most, he’d tell you that he’d give anything to be average.
Neil was alone.
He was a nobody kid with no parents, squatting in a house in nowhere, Arizona, playing in the mutant games for some no-name high school.
His mother’s voice was screaming at him, reminding him that no matter how far he distanced himself from Nathaniel Wesninski it wasn’t safe for him to go anywhere near that world; that a new body and a pretend power (He told them he could manipulate fire. Useful, but not too uncommon for people to raise an eyebrow at it.) weren’t enough to protect him, and that a moment of adrenaline wasn’t worth death.
He ignored her. She might be right, and playing in the mutant games might be a death wish, but she had forced him to watch her die in Washington and had abandoned him at eighteen without his consent, so he figured acting out a little was fair.
So he pretended to be adequate at manipulating fire, so he could play for some average mutant team in Millport, Arizona and tried to keep his head down as much as possible.
It had worked perfectly until they lost the championships in May. They had been doing surprisingly well, and now Neil was watching them tear down the only place he had felt at home at in years.
As he watched them tear up the floor, he planned his next life. He figured he could pick up some unassuming looks from someone in the airport and actually fly back to France like his mom had planned before she went and died on him. He would stay away from the mutant games for the rest of his life and everything would work out like it always had, until his dad found him for good.
It was the perfect plan until David Wymack showed up in his life.
David Wymack was the mutant coach for Palmetto State University, a group of college kids who would have been incredible at the games if they could ever get along. They had the reckless abandon needed to succeed in such a violent atmosphere since Wymack only recruited mutants who had lived through some genuinely terrifying shit.
Mutants like Neil.
Except, there was no reason that he should know just how fucked up Neil’s life was, nor that he should have any interest in recruiting him. Neil had spent most of his time in Millport acting as if nothing was out of the ordinary; the Jostens were rich, busy business owners who had no time for their son, and stuck him in the mutant games after moving to the small town as a way of helping him make friends. He had no prior experience in fighting, and Millport wasn’t exactly a place known for its athletes.
None of that mattered, though, because Wymack was here and he was offering Neil a place on his mutant team after his last member was “unable” to maintain her contract.
(She had attempted to kill herself and was now locked up in an inpatient facility somewhere. Neil had read the article online about her.)
Neil tried to escape, to give up on dreams of a high school diploma and create another brand new identity before Wymack could drag him back into the world of the Moriyamas. He knew joining the foxes would put him close to Kevin, and that even if he didn’t recognize Neil and it was all a coincidence, the moment he let his guard down his true powers would slip out and he would be dead.
It had been tempting, to reach out and grab the opportunity for a real life Wymack was dangling in front of his face; to become a permanent fixture in the world, to have a name more substantial than dust. But taking the bait was dangerous, and Neil hadn’t let his guard down enough to do something quite that stupid.
So, he ran.
He booked it past a shocked Wymack and an even more shocked Hernandez and pushed towards the exit, his hand tight on the strap of his duffel bag. He had the papers, the plane tickets to France, the money to make it for a few more years. He would swipe the unassuming looks of his English teacher (the dirty blond hair, the hazel eyes, the generic face structure) and disappear, leaving Neil Josten in the cosmos, just as he had all the other identities sitting in between him and Nathaniel Wesninski.
He would disappear once again, and the world would continue to spin.
Which was a wonderful plan that he had every intention of following, until he felt a solid hand wrap around his wrist and pull so hard Neil could feel the bruise forming, and suddenly the world fell away.
Not in the overly sappy, romantic way, where you meet your soulmate and suddenly you are the only two in the world. No, Neil meant that his facade was stripped from him piece by piece, and he was suddenly facing someone a mere three inches shorter than him, a crazed smile taking up the majority of his assailant’s face. He couldn’t see himself, but if the glint in the eye of the maniac midget (he belatedly identified him as Andrew Minyard, defensive player for the PSU foxes) was anything to go by, he was most definitely standing at a solid 5 feet 3 inches tall, with shocking blue eyes and hair the color of blood.
The psycho’s smile grew impossibly wider, and he tipped his head to the side as if in thought.
“Isn’t this interesting? I’m going to have a lot of fun with you.”
The crazed laugh that slipped out after the statement threw Neil off once again, and he was suddenly rendered useless as he tried to compose his thoughts into a semblance of order.
His slip up had left Wymack enough time to catch up, and after making some quip about not having nice things to Minyard, his attention was back on Neil, making sure that he wasn’t injured or incapacitated.
He brushed the larger man off with a solid “I’m fine,” and moved to separate himself from what felt like a pack of wolves surrounding him.
Andrew opened his mouth, most likely to make some witty response that would once again piss Wymack off when another voice cut him off.
“Great. If you’re fine you can sign the forms and we can head back to South Carolina with a full lineup.”
Neil’s heart stopped, his blood froze in his veins, and he suddenly wished that he had the power of invisibility or spontaneous combustion.
He hadn’t heard that voice in ten years, but no matter how much deeper it had become, Neil knew who was about to appear in front of him.
Kevin Day hopped down from Hernandez’s desk, closing up a file with a picture of Neil, with brown hair and brown eyes and a few added inches of height, taped to the front. He took up his place behind Andrew, his green eyes flashing to the pint-sized psycho he had adopted as his bodyguard following the “skiing accident,” and then towards Neil.
Kevin had hardly changed at all over the years, the only stark difference the permanence of the number two under his eye; Riko Moriyama’s 18th birthday had begun with the sharpie being wiped away and replaced by a tattoo gun. His eyes were far more sunken into his face, and the cloud of anxiety that had followed him was more subdued, but Kevin Day was still the recognizable son of Exy.
Neil felt trapped with all of the pairs of eyes on him; he knew that only Minyard could see him stripped down, but he still felt too seen. Up until this moment, Neil could categorize his memories into fight or flight, but for once his only response was to freeze.
Wymack seemed to be unaware of Neil’s internal dilemma, or purposefully ignoring it, but he shot a dirty look at Kevin and Andrew and spat out some harsh words that he couldn’t hear, and the pressure around Neil’s wrist disappeared.
Pleased with the privacy they had achieved, Wymack shot him a look that screamed exhaustion; he had seen a lot over the years of coaching his team of misfits, and one man can only have so much patience.
He gave Neil one last chance, reminded him that they could protect him from whatever he happened to be running from, just like they protect Kevin. They wouldn’t announce his name until the last possible minute, would provide him housing for the summer, would guarantee him at least five years of permanence, and would let him participate in a game that he had been desperately missing for a decade. Kevin obviously didn’t recognize him yet, and Minyard was far too interested in him to reveal his secret just yet.
He signed the papers and counted down the days until May.
Neil Josten was going to be real for as long as possible, and Mary Hatford was too dead to do anything about it.
He realized that he didn’t need to catalog any new faces in the airport, knew that he was actually going to look the same for a decent amount of time, but old habits die hard. People watching hadn’t just been Neil’s main source of entertainment as a child, but an integral part of his survival and airports were the perfect place to do it.
He found one of the Minyard twins and followed him out to the parking garage, deciding that it had to be Aaron because his apathetic look could never be achieved by his heavily medicated counterpart.
He followed him out to the parking garage and climbed into the passenger seat of a vehicle that looked far too expensive for an orphaned college student.
Their wrists’ bumped lightly together as Minyard reached for the pack of cigarettes in his pocket; his eyes met Neil’s, and they silently agreed to keep quiet.
Andrew pulled the car out of the parking garage, and they headed towards PSU.

Lost Boys: Day Two:5
[ < ][first][ > ] [AO3][Masterpost]
He’s on the train back from his meeting with the director when he wonders if No would be at rehearsal; He wants to tell her about getting the part.  Elle had seemed so excited she’d even left him a really cute voicemail while he was on a call with his agent just now but for some reason he wanted to tell No about it.  He couldn’t really figure out why, he hadn’t really gotten to talk to her all that much, but he wanted to know her better.
Maybe it was the intensity he saw when she was rehearsing, Elle was so cute but No, well she was definitely attractive, nope, this was a professional interest.  Watching her fence, watching her run lines, she could match his intensity if she did musicals, and she could sing if she got past her stage fright.
Yes, getting to know her was purely professional.
Standing on the train back into the city he sees a boy with blue hair and remembers the chat with V from earlier.  It had been weird, something had been off, and Elle’s demeanor had totally changed for the brief time they were talking to him.  She must be a fan, god she’s so cute, that’s probably why V was strange, he could probably tell.
When he gets inside he doesn’t have to ask if anyone has seen her.  Most of the performers have stopped to eat, and being Friday the space is pretty empty but No is on the stage, the bright white of her headphone cord flares out with her movements, stark against the dark coloured tank top she wears.
She’s dancing now?  God was she just good at everything?  Well, not good, there was something not right about the way she moved, she seemed to struggle with her feet.  Maybe he could offer to help?  But she stops and pulls her phone out of her shirt, makes some notes, stretches and starts again.
“Hyun, you’re back,” the director slaps him on the back.  “Did you forget something?”
“Oh, I, uh, just thought I’d—”
“Don’t hurt yourself kid, you don’t have to tell me which one it is.  You’ve got perfect timing regardless; I just got the first draft of your script.”
*
Nina had been happy to see her.  Noelle had arrived at the end of one of her classes, a bunch of grade school kids ranging in skill from constantly laying on the ice to practicing camel spins when they thought no one was looking.  She tried to sneak in and hide in the bleachers with the parents but Nina clearly saw her, she supposed being a head taller than most of the parents with a bright blue skate bag over her shoulder probably wasn’t the subtlest she could have been.
Nina had practically slammed into the boards and screamed her name.
“When you said you might stop by later I thought you meant my house for a drink, you know since your short break has turned into six whole months.”
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to get your hopes up it’s just been really busy at work, and I’ve been spending a lot of times at rehearsals, I keep meaning to come back it’s just—”
“You do you babe,” Nina had laughed and planted a comical sucking kiss on her cheek.  “Get your skates on and help me round up these little monsters!”
She’d meant to, she really had but when she was lacing up her skates her phone had chimed and, well that had been the weirdest conversation she’d ever had.  V was Jihyun, she’d known that, it was his Photography Psued, but he’d been cold.  Maybe that’s who he was now, no one seemed to find it out of place, Zen had seemed so happy to see him.
Was she crying, shit, it had been so long.  Did he know it was her?  No, why did she care.  She didn’t care if Jihyun knew, so what if he’d been like that on purpose, it was probably for her benefit, this was why she didn’t call him.
“Hey, if you didn’t want to skate with the kids you could have just said,” Nina frowned down at her but her face softened.  “Noelle, what’s wrong? Sorry, I didn’t-”
She shook her head. “No it’s fine, I got distracted by one of those sad dog transformations on facebook.”
Nina shook her head.  “You didn’t, but you don’t have to talk about it, what’s up?”
Noelle leads her friend back to the ice and explained the situation to her, of course Nina was already familiar with the source, just like she’d hoped and after two hours on the ice, not only did Noelle have more reference shots than she knew what to do with, they’d managed to work out a simple standalone program that Noelle was going to animate in her non-existent free time as plan-b.
Just like she’d hoped Nina didn’t even want payment, Noelle simply had to commit to coming back to their skating family, teaching a group class once a week, and consider coaching private lessons.
“I know you’ve got a lot on your plate but as soon as you finish this project I get you one day a week, guaranteed, that’s all I ask.”
Noelle had laughed and agreed.
With that worked out she went home, proper home, and packed a bag.  Her things, Darryl’s things, her computer and tablet, she even grabbed her favorite mug out of the cupboard.  She collected Darryl from her neighbor and thanked her profusely.
“Are you moving Noelle?”
“Oh no Ma’am,” Noelle smiled up at the older woman from where she knelt in front of her dog, “just house sitting for a while.”
“Oh that’s very kind of you.”
She drags 2 suitcases, a gig bag, a laptop bag and a giant dog into the elevator.  Her phone chimes again as she drops everything in the entry way.  Darryl saunters past, laying one big slobbery kiss on her forehead before surveying his temporary kingdom and Noelle lets herself fall gently to the floor where she lays face down while she fishes her phone out of her pocket.
“So are you married to your dog?” 707 laughs on the other end of the phone.
“It’s an open relationship,” she grunts.
“So is that a family thing?  Does Chief Han have a ferret his girlfriends can never live up to?”
Noelle sits up cross legged and laughs.  “You know we’re not really related right?  I mean big bad hacker did a background check on me so...”
“Hey the internet says you guys were doing the incest, who am I to question— No, No, Elle don’t hang up I’m kidding, I’m kidding.”
“It’s not funny, that ruined my life, okay, and it was a stupid rumor nothing ever happened.”
“I could get rid of it if you want,” his voice is earnest, softer than she’d yet heard.
“It’s been so long, the damage is done.”
“Don’t worry about it,” he says, “I’ve already got a program that can do the job, just a little tweak, it’s already going along, hungry little buddy, no more nasty rumors about you and your not-brother.”
She laughs despite herself.  Where was this guy 8 years ago?
“Byebye,” he chirps and the line goes dead.
*
She’s sitting in her car in the free parking lot a few blocks from the rehearsal space when her phone chirps again.  She’d gotten groceries and decided to pack dinner for herself; she’d eat it when she got home probably, she rarely ever had an appetite when she was rehearsing.
She pulls her phone out of her pocket and checks the notification from the messenger.  Zen is excited about a new role, written just for him, Jesus where do I find fangirls?  She swallows her jealousy and cheers him on.  She’d flirted with him earlier in the day and she was tempted to call him and flirt again, it would stem the disappointment.  He was on his way home.
Fuck it, she does call him but it goes straight to voicemail.  She leaves a message for him, conscious of the pitch of her voice, a little higher than her practiced speaking voice, a little more femme than she normal goes for, 707 had been clear he couldn’t know that she was Elle.
Her agent is more than apologetic and she feels her body tense in anticipation as he lifts her off the floor in an bear hug.  She shrugs and hangs her things up, switches to her slippers and scouts out the stage.  She should be running lines, finding someone to read with her at the audition, they’d specified they wanted the performers to bring a scene partner, someone not vying for a role in the showcase.
But she really needed to get the flow of this choreography down, she had the foot work down when she’d left but Nina had been on her about her arms.  She had slacked on her workouts, and her core had suffered, it was hard to keep her arms moving the way Nina liked to see when she was distracted by her posture, the way her stomach was jiggling, the way she felt so wobbly.  Nina could see it too; she hadn’t added any jumps despite Noelle’s history.
It was probably the weirdest dance, so much should happen while she was gliding, she stops and makes a few notes and scans the stage, maybe if she had a balance beam to stand on it would be more effective.  It’s a stupid idea.  Min-ju corners her.
“So that’s cool, are you going to a really slow rave or something?”
“Do people still go to raves?” she laughs.
Min-ju cocks her head to the side.
“Thinking of getting back into skating.”
“That’s random, are you giving up the dream then?”
Noelle laughs, “which dream?”
Min-ju throws her arms to the sides and spins in a circle. “This one, of course.”
Min-ju isn’t there to rehearse, she tells Noelle, but she didn’t want to admit that she just didn’t have plans for Friday night, she’s still young and excited to be disappointing her parents.  She tweaks some of Nina’s program and runs line with Noelle for another hour or so.
“So did you hear about your boyfriend’s new role?”
“My what,” she chokes on her water.
Min-ju laughs.  “Or your hero or whatever, Zen,” she fakes a swoon when she says his name and Noelle laughs.
“Yeah, I heard something about it.”
“Can you imagine,” Min-ju swings her feet dreamily, “do you think they’re really adapting it especially for him?”
Noelle shrugs.  “I should apologize to him for yesterday.”
“Eh, whatever.”
“Is he here?”
“Do you like him,” the smaller woman whispers.
“I’ve only talked to him once,” Noelle frowns.
“Then what are you so worried about?”
“It’s manners, MJ, I literally fell on him yesterday and then whatever happened on that stage last night.  He was really nice, that’s all.”
“Okay,” she draws it out and squints suspiciously.  “I think I saw him in the reading room when I came in.”
Noelle’s phone chimes again in the hallway.
“WooOooOOOoo,” 707 warbles into her ear, “it is I the ghost of boyfriends yet to come.”
“Oh my god,” she groans.
“Just a friendly reminder that Zen does not know you’re Elle.  Remember No and Elle are separate until the party, when you can finally be—”
“Please don’t.”
“Noelle.”
“Please never make my name a pun again.”

GENDER REVEAL || ST. ANDERSON
WHO: Jesse St. James & Bethany Anderson- St.James
WHEN: Sunday Evening, January 22, 2025.
WHERE: Restaurant and Hotel Room
NOTES: Bethany and Jesse go out to dinner to celebrate their successes the last year. Then reveals the gender of their new addition to Jesse.
TRIGGERS/WARNINGS: None. Just lots of fluff!
Jesse couldn’t believe he was back home for this week long ceremony for the woman who founded PSU. He wasn’t upset about it but he never thought he’d be back here unless it was for Christmas’ with Bethany’s family and such. Yet here he was in a nice hotel room getting ready for a night out with his wife. His wife. A life he never saw coming for himself and yet here he was six years later still married to her and still continuing to fall in love with her more and more every day. If Jesse had to pick a point in time in their marriage he was most in love with her it was when she was pregnant with their son and here he was having those same feelings now that she was pregnant again. Finishing up getting dressed and making sure he looked alright Jesse still wasn’t sure what tonight was all about. He just figured Bethany wanted a night out for the two of them and he was more than okay with that. Dropping Jamie off earlier for a sleepover at Bethany’s parents house he knew tonight would be a magical night. Though every day seemed like that with her. “What time are our dinner reservations again? I want to be sure to call the car to get us there in time.”
Bethany couldn’t explain the emotions she was feeling right now, she was more than excited for this evening to begin because she was this much closer to revealing the gender of the baby to Jesse. The first time around with Jaime the two of them found out together with a gender reveal party with their whole family and this time around she knew she wanted it to be more personal between the two of them. When she went to the doctors before coming to this trip, the doctor asked if she wanted to know the gender and she found it was the perfect opportunity since this time around she was at the doctors alone due to Jesse having prior plans he couldn’t miss. Even though the reason for this trip back home for them was unfortunate due to the loss of the woman who founded the school that helped bring the two closer, she knew this was the chance to be able to get him alone and tell him the news. While Jesse was getting ready this afternoon and dropping off their son at her parents she spend the time baking a cake with icing in the middle revealing the gender. Although that was later, for right now they were going to go out to dinner and then come back and enjoy desert. She planned on dropping small hints throughout the night hoping that by the end of the night it would all come together. Bethany was making the finals touches on her rose colored maternity midi dress, she ran her hand over her belly and smiled. She always loved to show off her belly when she was pregnant. “Oh they are at eight pm so in about thirty minutes we should have more than enough time if we leave shortly.” She said with a smile turning around to meet his eyes.
Jesse nodded along and pulled out his phone to call for a car to come pick them up. Exiting out of the bathroom and into the bedroom to see Bethany in her dress he couldn’t help but grin. “Have I ever told you how gorgeous you are?” Jesse walked up to her and kissed her on the cheek. “I ordered the car and it should be here soon.” Jesse reached for his wallet and placed it in the front pocket of his slacks before looking himself over in the mirror once more. “I’m actually really glad we have tonight to ourselves. As much as I love vacations with the little man it’s nice to just have a night to us. Or us and our little bean growing.” Jesse gently placed his hand on her belly something he liked to do quite often. He didn’t like it much when random strangers tried to but it was something very pure and intimate between the both of them.
Bethany smiled and shook her head, “I am thinking you have told me a couple of times,” said said adding on a teasing wink, “just as much as I have told you how handsome you are.” She agreed even though they had years just enjoying the two of them and we really ready to try for a kid, “I had a feeling you would enjoy that. Plus I am sure my parents love having the chance to have Jamie go and give them trouble and sing a few songs for them.” When he placed his hand on her belly she ran her hand up and down his arm and looked up at him. She loved to watch him look at the belly and talk to their soon to be bundle of joy. “Or you mean bouncing bean, if they are anything like Jamie I swear we are going to have a dancer on our hands next.” Bethany said teasingly looking back on when she was pregnancy with Jaime. “Although it always happened the most when you were around because they just love that voice of yours.”
Jesse chuckled as Bethany mentioned their newest addition and their kicking habits. “I feel honored but then again if this one is anything like Jamie or worse maybe I should stay away. Don’t need them hurting their mother while they’re still in the womb.” Shaking his head Jesse felt his phone buzz and he saw their car was close by. “Let’s head out, yes?” Jesse grabbed a coat for himself and put it on before helping Bethany put one on herself as well. Exiting the hotel room they made their way down to the hotel lobby and Jesse was sure cameras would be outside. People had figured out they were staying here by this point. Taking Bethany’s hand before they walked out Jesse saw the cameras outside. He rolled his eyes and before stepping outside completely he took his coat off and draped it over Bethany trying to cover her as much as possible without ruining her hair. They were both able to be camera ready but tonight was about them and not about the cameras. They quickly got into their car and Jesse took a sigh of relief as the doors closed and they were on their way to dinner.
Bethany nodded and buttoned up her jacked after he helped her put it on. When they made their way outside she smiled at the cameras even if she knew they frustrated Jesse. She looked up and smiled at him as he draped his jacked around her but then moved her head to go straight ahead so they could make their way to their car as soon as possible. When the made it into the car she rested her arm on his leg and looked up at him, “This is what we get for being the King and Queen of Broadway.” She said teasingly. Staying close to him as they made their way to where they were having dinner. When they arrived, they pulled up to a place they went to on one of their visits back home. What was special about this place was this is where they went when they talked about how they wanted to do the gender reveal for Jaime. She wasn’t sure if he would remember but this was one of her many hints. They made their way through more paparazzi until they made it into the restaurant, the hostess eyes growing large when she saw who they were, “Reservation for Bethany St. James.” She said still loving how that sounded after six years. With that they were led back to a private room.
Jesse “Yeah, yeah. Like we always wanted but sometimes I just want them to not. Only sometimes.” He smiled down at her and when they pulled up to the restaurant Jesse felt some sort of familiarity to it but he couldn’t put his hand on it. Either way he climbed out of the car and pushed past a few more cameras before entering. He put his head down and chuckled as the hostess was clearly in awe of them. His head rose and looked over to Bethany with soft eyes as she said her name. He had heard her say it millions of times before but it was like new every single time. He followed the hostess with his hand on the small of Bethany’s back into their private room. He pulled out her chair and let her sit in it before he gently scooted her into the table and then sat himself. He looked over the menu as the waiter showed up to greet them. “I will have a glass of sparkling water, please.”
Bethany sat down across from each other and looked at him with a soft smile on her face, “And I will have some water, with no ice, thank you.” She said to the waiter before he left to leave them time to take time to decide what they wanted to eat. Bethany looked over the menu for a second trying to find something that caught her eye. Even though she was emotional when she was pregnant, she did have as many cravings as she thought she would and always liked to eat healthy and if anything just treated herself with baked goods that she made. She looked up to him once more, “That hostess was just so adorable. And I could tell that waiter was trying to contain his excitement.”
Jesse smirked as Bethany spoke about the hostess and their waiter. “Can you really blame them?” Jesse looked back to the menu and decided on what he was going to have before placing his menu down. “So, what did I do to get the honor of having such a nice evening out with you tonight darling?”
Bethany couldn’t help but grin at her husband sitting across from her, just watching him put a smile on her face. “Well for one thing you know I will never turn down a chance to have some alone time with you.” She said as she sat sat down the menu, decided what she wanted. “Plus I feel like we haven’t gotten the chance to really celebrate the little bean with just the two of us. With being in between and finishing shows it has for sure been a crazy couple of months.” As she was finishing her statement the waiter came up once more and lit the candles in a rose gold container, another one of her many hints. Along with the flowers that we were light pink roses. He sat down their drinks and then took their orders before leaving once more.
Jesse watched as she put her menu down and he put his hand on the table and reached for hers as she spoke. “You’re right. Between Hamilton, Anastasia, raising Jamie, and me starting up my directing project it has been hard to really celebrate the newest addition to be in our family.” Jesse just admired her and his gaze was broken as the waiter came in. Jesse was not a very observant person when it came to small details but he did like the rose gold color of the candle container. “I think we’re ready to order.” Jesse kept his hand in Bethany’s as he ordered, “I will have the 10oz filet mignon, medium rare, please. For my side I’ll do a baked potato with sour cream and butter but no other fixings.” Jesse flashed a smile at the waiter then turned to Bethany to wait on her to order. As the waiter took hers and left the room Jesse gently traced his thumb pad against her hand. “Have I told you that I love you yet today?”
Bethany looked down at he took her hand her smile turning soft and loving. She looked back up at him and met his gaze, she could always get lost in his eyes. It took until he looked over at her for her to order when she snapped back into reality. “Oh yes,” she looked over at the waiter with her natural and charming smile on her lips, “I will have the smoked salmon and for the side I will have the vegetable medley.” When he left her gaze went right back to his, her eyes full of love. A love that grow every single day. “I think you have a couple times, but I love you more, to the moon and back.” One of their many phrases that were said between the two of them. “And of course we have to celebrate that project of yours too because that is amazing, and I am so excited to see it grow. And soon the world will know another one of your amazing talents.”
Jesse “I don’t know. I don’t wanna argue but I think I might love you more. I’m the one who got lucky enough to meet the love of my life at twenty-one and now she’s the mother of my children. I love you more than words will ever express, my love.” Jesse smiled wide as she mentioned celebrating his new career adventures. “And hopefully if things pan out you can be in said musical. I just hope I’m able to successfully make the transition. It’s a big risk I’m taking but I do feel confident especially since I have you as my number one fan by my side.”
Bethany felt a blush go across her cheeks, even now eight years later he was still able to make her blush. “I guess I can settle on us agreeing that we both love each other oh so much.” The way that he smiled when she brought up his show, her face brightened up just seeing him get so happy. She squeezed his hand lightly, “And you always will, I was and will be your cheerleader and number one fan. I mean it is hard not to be because of how great you are. Even thought I may be a bit biased. Although you did get the best dad award from Jaime and that is a pretty important award to get.” She said teasingly adding a wink at the end. At the end of her sentence the waiters brought out the food, she looked at them and smiled, “Thank you so much.”
Jesse “That was a pretty great award to get. Definitely the best award even better than all my Tony’s.” Jesse looked up as the waiter returned and he thanked him for the food. Jesse pulled his hand away from Bethany to start in on his food. It was quite delicious to say the least. “This steak is amazing!” Jesse looked to Bethany and pointed to her food, “How is yours? Is it good enough for you babe?” Jesse was still Jesse and there had been times if Bethany wasn’t satisfied with something he’d definitely speak up and make it right.
Bethany smiled and shook her head at the memory, “And the art work itself on that award deserves a trophy in itself. You should see what he made the other day for the little bean when they come. He insisted we hang it up in their room when we set it up.” When the food was set down in front of them and got settled to start eating, taking a few bites. The place really was as amazing as she remembers from when they came here just four years earlier. “I am glad you enjoy it, and mine is amazing! More than enough.” She said knowing he always wanted the best for her. “I mean the cooks here get amazing reviews and after we came here last time, I knew we had to come back.” Bethany hoped that was she just said wouldn’t give it away too much.
Jesse “He did? I’ve gotta see it. He’s very talented for three but he is our child.” Jesse nodded along as she spoke and it clicked for him. “We have been here before! It’s been so long but I’m glad we came back.” Jesse continued in on his good but by no means could he finish it. He pushed his plate aside when he was done and the waiter came to check on them and asked if they wanted dessert, “I am stuffed but do you want anything, babe?”
Bethany nodded, “I will show you when we get back to the hotel, he has even picked some names and told me what he thinks we should put in their room. He is very excited to be a big brother.” Bethany finished what she could and looked from the waiter back to Jesse, “I am perfect, I couldn’t finish any more myself, either. The little bean and I are happy.” She couldn’t help but be curious to see what he was understanding so far from this evening and what was clicking, the mention of dessert made her realize how close she was to revealing the surprise to him. “Although I think we are fine without any dessert, I made something special for us to enjoy at home.”
Jesse “I know he is. He keeps telling me he thinks it’s gonna be a boy but he really wants a sister.” Jesse shrugged not really caring which gender it was. Jesse’s eyebrow quilted as she stated there was dessert back home. He didn’t question it and quickly paid the bill. Getting up he pulled her chair out and took her hand in his as they made their way out of the restaurant and towards the car that was to pick him up. He was in a bit of a better mood so he didn’t mind the cameras but he did hurry through them to be stopped and asked how he felt about becoming a dad again, “It’s a wonderful feeling. I can’t wait to add to our already beautiful and loving family.” After he helped Bethany in the car and silence filled the air before they returned to the hotel. Getting back into their room Jesse took his coat off and looked to her, “Do you need help with that dessert?”
Bethany took his arm as they headed out of the restaurant smiling at the cameras. She could feel herself starting to get emotional when he made the comment about becoming a dad again. Although she quickly composed herself, because even though she was emotional while pregnant, she was still an actress and was able to compose herself at the drop of dime. After he helped her take off her coat she looked at him and smiled, “For right now all I need you to do is take a seat while I get it out.” Bethany went to the freezer and brought out a homemade vanilla ice cream cake with no specific design on it to not give anything away, but little did he know that once he cut the cake it would reveal the surprise she has been waiting to give all night. She brought it over to him and took out some plates also. “Although I will let you have the honors of cutting the cake.” This was a typical tradition for them whenever they made cakes because she always liked him to be the first to try them. She hoped the normalcy would help add to the surprise.
Jesse shrugged and sat at the bar in their kitchenette. The perks of having money was being able to get really nice suites in hotels. Though Jesse was excited for dessert he couldn’t help but think of that one guy asking about Jesse being a dad again. He was more than excited and though he would be happy with a boy he was secretly hoping for a girl. “I’ll cut it, as always.” Jesse took the knife with ease and started to cut into the cake. It seemed plain but then he saw pink in the middle and he was confused. “Pink. That’s an interesting choice.” Jesse put a piece on a plate for him and a piece for her. After a moment he kept thinking about how he was ready to be a dad again and he really got to thinking. Pink. Why was the cake pink? Then he thought to dinner. The candle holder was rose gold there were hints of pink all night but Jesse didn’t want to assume. “Beth…” his voice was shaky as he finally looked up to her, “Is there any reason everything has been pink related tonight?”
Bethany started to get really nervous, hoping that this would all be put together when it came down to it. When he cut the cake and gave each other a piece, he noticed the color, “Mhm.” She said with a nod and a smile, soon she saw the wheels turning in his head. Her hand moved to rest on her belly, rubbing it lightly, feeling her eyes welling up with tears, happy ones of course when he said her name. The shaky tone and his eyes when she looked up at her made a soft smile spread across her lips. “Yes there is…” Bethany looked down at her belly where her hand was making small circles then back up at her husband. Having a feeling just that action alone would help him get the hint. Not totally wanting to give it away to him, but she had a feeling she already did when a tear fell from her eye.
Jesse felt his eyes start to water up as she answered him and rubbed her belly. “Are….are we having a girl?” There was a crack in his voice but it didn’t stop him from getting up and going over to her. His hands rested on her belly as he gently chuckled his whole body filled with happiness, “Bethany are we having a girl?” Jesse knew she knew the sex but he had no idea when or how she’d tell him. He kissed her then focused on her stomach, “We’re gonna have a little girl. Oh my gosh.” There was no comparison but back when Jesse was in high school his ex was in fact pregnant with a little girl and ever since that loss all Jesse wanted was a second chance to be a father to a beautiful little girl. Here he was and his dream was coming true and he couldn’t have asked for anyone better to share this moment with. “Oh my gosh. We’re gonna have a girl.” Jesse’s eyes were filled with tears but they were nothing but happy tears. “I love you so much, Bethany.”
Bethany reached over to an envelope with a sonogram in it shows a perfect picture of their little girl. When he rested his hands on her belly she looked up at him and smiled watching him fall in love with the baby even more every second. “Yes we are, Jesse. We are having a happy and healthy little girl.” Bethany smiled against his lips when they kissed. She showed him the sonogram, “And she already loves getting her picture taken,” a giggle escaping her lips, the sonogram showing a nearly perfect view of their baby. She brought her hands up to his cheek, wiping a few of the tears with the pad of her thumb. “A beautiful little princess.” She said feeling herself get more and more excited and relaxed now that the surprise was off her shoulders. “I love you too, Jesse.” Bethany moved and put her hands on top of his, “She is going to be a daddy’s girl, I can already tell.”
Jesse looked to the sonogram and he couldn’t help but smile wider. She wasn’t even born yet and he was already in love. “We’re gonna have a girl.” Jesse looked to her once more and this was one of those moments where he found himself falling even more in love with her. “God, I hope so.” He placed his hand on the side of Bethany’s face and gently rested his forehead against hers. “I love you so, so much. I am so thrilled to add this beautiful little girl to our family. Everything is falling perfectly into place.”
Bethany looked down at the sonogram with him then back at him. Wanting to take everything in, the moment, the feeling and his reactions. “I know so, she will love you to the moon and back just like I do. And she is so very lucky to have such an amazing father and family to come into.” She leaned into his touch her eyes moving to meet his when his forehead met hers. “I love you too, words can’t explain it. I am falling more and more in love with you every day and I just can’t wait to watch our family grow with you. It is just going to be so beautiful and I can’t even begin to explain how lucky I feel to have gotten the lucky chance to get to fall in love with you and even more so everyday.”

Your Monday Morning Roundup
It wasn’t pretty, but it got the job done.
The Eagles earned a sloppy 33-10 win over the San Francisco 49ers in less than ideal conditions yesterday. With the victory, the Birds improved to 7-1 and extended their win streak to six games, both of which are best in the NFL right now. Go through the win again with our live-thread.
Also, see how the CB staff did with their predictions for the contest.
Carson Wentz and Alshon Jeffery connected for the first time this season the way everyone envisioned in the off-season:

Also, it was the first time Brent Celek has faced his little brother, who is on the 49ers, in an NFL game.
For those of you who watched the game at home, your heart stopped for a few seconds when the feed suddenly changed to FXX.
Stay locked to CB all day today for the best day-after Eagles coverage around.
The Birds host the Broncos next week. It’s slated for a 1pm kick-off and is on CBS.

The Redskins and Cowboys battled in torrential downpours with Dallas emerging victorious. The loss severely hurt Washington’s playoff chances this season. The New York Giants were on a bye.

Game 6 is slated for Halloween Night at 8:20pm in LA.
Hopefully by then this baseball-gate will be figured out:
Pitchers and coaches from both the Dodgers and Astros complained Saturday night about the World Series baseballs—and this time the controversy is not just about liveliness. They say there is a new problem: the baseballs used in the World Series are slicker than the ones used in the regular season because of a difference in the grain of the leather. The slicker World Series balls particularly make it hard to throw a good slider, they claim.
Perhaps Gabe Kapler could hitch a ride back to Philly with the Sixers as Kapler will become the next Phillies manager. It’s safe to say the Phillies will have the hottest manager in baseball.
More not-so-good, but not-so-unexpected news came down on Sunday afternoon regarding Markelle Fultz and his shoulder:
A team source confirms that Fultz has now seen three specialists, all of whom have concluded that there’s no structural damage. From the sounds of it, Fultz should be eligible to return sometime after three weeks, presumably once he’s brought back up to speed and has time to practice with the team after his follow-up visit. I would also imagine that sitting Fultz has a lot to do with his mental state as well. Playing through an injury while limited as an established player is one thing, doing so as a rookie is another. It does no one any good to for Fultz to have his confidence further eroded playing with an injury.
Without the top draft pick, the Sixers earned a nice, road win over Nerlens Noel and the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday night. Our Kevin Kinkead compiled his takeaways.
The Sixers visit the Rockets tonight at 8pm.
The Flyers defeated the Maple Leafs over the weekend, but suffered a big loss. From Anthony SanFilippo’s takeaways:
He [Gostisbehere] was a victim of an unnecessary hit by Leafs center Leo Komorov that drove him into the boards face first, resulting in a probable concussion.
It’s the second head injury this month for Gostisbehere, who was in danger of missing the season opener after a similar hit in the Flyers’ final preseason game, but he played and prospect defenseman Sam Morin sat in the press box for the first four games of the season before being sent back to the Phantoms.
With Andrew MacDonald already sidelined for at least a month with a knee injury, the Flyers defense could be in dire straits if Gostisbehere has to miss any extended time.
The Flyers return to the ice tonight at home against the Arizona Coyotes. Puck drops at 7pm.
In college football, Penn State was upset by Ohio State as the Nittany Lions blew an 18-point lead, twice. Also, surging Iowa State upset then fourth-ranked TCU.
Penn State wasn’t the the only one getting tripped up at the Horseshoe:

The result dropped PSU in the latest Associated Press Top 25 and catapulted the Buckeyes. Here is the new top 10:

Penn State
Oklahoma
Miami
TCU
Those rankings lose meaning a bit starting this week with the first College Football Playoff Rankings of the season set to be released on Tuesday night.
Locally, Temple fell to Army in overtime, but had a feel-good moment late last week. I love these videos:
