before jacky ickx became the belgian who absolutely dominated le mans, there was olivier gendebien, who won it four times in total, three of those times with phil hill.
(so if you read 'go like hell' and end up thinking that poor phil was totally washed up after his championship year, think again, bc he went out and won his third le mans in 1962.)
they became the most successful team-mate pairing in the history of le mans up to that point, and had really good chemistry according to several sources.
(if this doesn't convince you of said chemistry I don't know what will)

For the Le Mans 24 Hours on June 22-23, 1957 Scuderia Ferrari brought two new cars, both fitted with V12 motors of nominal 3 liter displacement. Classe et rapide - Olivier Gendebien et Jacky Ickx 🇧🇪⚡
These two drivers not only share the same nationality, but they also had quite a successful Formula 1 career, that saw them both driving for the best teams, like Ferrari and Lotus. But more memorable is that both are two of the most successfull Le Mans racing drivers: between the two of them, they scored 10 victories at the French circuit.
