what i like especially about the pronouns in the goblin emperor is that this language doesn't just have the T-V distinction (aka informal vs. formal second-person pronouns, in this case 'thou' vs. 'you'), it also has informal and formal first-person pronouns. having BOTH of these distinctions in the same language lets you fine-tune your tone by mixing and matching. with only one axis of formality, when you use informal pronouns, are you being familiar in an intimate way, or in an insolent or dismissive way? when you use formal pronouns, are you being polite or standoffish? you can't tell just from the pronouns; there's ambiguity. but a language where you can use a formal first-person pronoun in the same sentence as an informal second-person pronoun allows you to distance yourself (via the formal first) while also being familiar (via the informal second), thereby achieving the conversational tenor known to linguists as Fuck Thee Specifically.

just remembered a wip i had which was jay at uni meeting normal people and desperately trying to act cool and normal whilst internally screaming about being in a whole new place with all new people and not having his gang with him
#i only wrote one scene where jay meets one of his flatmates#and he’s trying to make casual normal conversation & asks her who her parents are#bc that has always mattered! on the isle or at auradon prep your parentage was also a Conversation Starter#and the girl is just like ……what. why do you want to know that#but she tells him and jay makes it into a joke like hehe oh yes i met them at a soirée once. amazing company#and the girl is like ok who are YOUR parents. knowing full well who he is#and jay says that his dad fosters puppies. and the girl says that sounds like a good life and he’s like ohhh just the BEST#i really. love exploring jay at uni i’ve written a couple of things i’ve never finished#like!!! for the first time for years he’s well and truly all alone!!!!#and at least the isle & ap had similarities. uni is just full of very normal people who don’t particularly give a shit#and jay who is like THE guy who cares about everything so much all the time and how people are reacting to him and he’s desperately trying+#to be so cool and unbothered whilst trying not to revert to his isle tactics regarding people who may be threats#just. being somewhere so so new. with no one he knows. everyone else is so far away. and jay is missing his gang like he’d miss+#his body parts. and it’s like. jays always buried his own emotions & hurt so he can better protect his gang#and now he has no gang to protect#and he is just laid absolutely bare. and also constantly stressing about not being there for the others#i just think he’d have an absolutely awful start to uni <3#descendants#jay son of jafar

Ok and on that while I do think having the Option to switch ryan and kaitlyn in chapter 7 would have made a more interesting game, I do value time with the bestie and dylan/kaitlyn bonding time was the best part of the game imo
#like I get most people want the switch for shipping purposes which there is nothing wrong with#I am a kaitlyn stan and also I don't hate jacob and I think having her find jacob in the basement would have been so so cool#like she dedicated freaks out a bit but her being so collected when all this shit is going down is very much her character#so having her absolutely lose it if she fails to get jacob out or even if it made the puzzle harder somehow#like it was harder for her to focus ohhh it would have been so good#*definitely#I also saw a post that said the only way to save all of the hacketts (well minus kaylee rip) would be if ryan stepped back#and let kaitlyn and laura handle it and then he would have the chance to kill silas in the scrap yard#and that whole idea has rewired my brain can you Imagine#this game. this game. sooo close to being really good#the quarry

what does my writing feel like? sometimes I think it feels like when you stuff your face into a giant bouquet of flowers. other times. it's like reading a ransom note, where every letter is cut out from a magazine and there's like weird dirty blood prints on the page too

yesterday a guy at irl critique group whose stuff i Really Really Like was critiquing this week's piece, and as part of his critique, he just straight-up said "okay, this is nitpicky and only because i keep writing fantasy stuff about healing myself, but there's a line here about this healing magic making this girl 'whole' and 'as she was meant to be' that reads...... really ableist." & the guy who wrote it was like "oh wow, you're right and that completely blew past me, thanks" & noted it down.
& i was sitting there trying not to visibly perk my ears like a dog like. SORRY TO BE SO SURPRISED I KNOW I'M BEING BIASED AND CONDESCENDING AS HELL. HEY. YOU KNOW THE WORD ABLEISM???

Also a few explanations:
• She ofc is part of the healing coven and a future Doctor in training. I did a student outfit and a Doctor outfit as well because of thought it would be cool to have both.
• She got a Snake palisman with wings since the snake is also a symbol of healing (The Rod of Asclepius). My other Idea was either a fox because she is very sly and looked like her or a bird because why not-
• She is one of the top Students and her and Walter befriend each other as she needed help for a history test and ofc she liked him. In this au she knows that he is a changeling and it's more about to make him more comfortable in his troll form because he has *insecuritys*.
• She also loves being with the magic Creatures and helps them if they arw injured. She made her palisman herself and ot took her almost a month to figure out what she should make as her palisman.
(If the quality is bad then i am sorry, i made it on procreate and i don’t know how to really get on my phone sooo... I am sorry- XD)

many oc thoughts today sorry but i decided violante has a tattoo of a snake that looks absolutely normal most of the time but it is tied to her patron, usually it stays wrapped around her upper left arm but it's not unusual for it to change spot or even duplicate or even run over her whole body. it's like a mark she got when she stipulated the pact, she can feel her skin crawl when it moves (doesn't notice it as much as before tho) and sometimes it doesn't look like a tattoo at all but more of a scar that never heals
