Happy pirate show release day in the UK! <3
Now you guys don't have to be pirates to watch Our Flag Means Death, woo~
... I've been watching it legally on HBOMax from my country the whole time, but now I'm turning into a VPN pirate to help up your viewing numbers. <3
Tumblr media
Towards season 2 and hopefully 3! I hope the general UK audience loves it! Can't wait to see more people stumble into this lovely gem of a show and its equally shining fandom. <3
Enjoy, y'all!

I have seen a lot of people understandably concerned that Our Flag Means Death has not been renewed for future seasons yet, along with speculations as to why this is. I don’t think a lot of people have considered, or even know, that the show can not be accessed in the UK (and many other countries) at all. Yes, even now, 2 months after its US release. HBO max is completely unavailable in the UK.
(This just appears if I go to the website)
Tumblr media
Really, HBO max is a bit behind compared to other services such as Netflix, Disney Plus, Apple TV+ and Amazon Prime which are all available in the UK. Here, HBO shows are massively popular and usually get broadcast on Sky TV channels. As an example, the GoT finale was watched by 3.8 million Britons on the channel Sky Atlantic. HBO stuff also usually goes to the the streaming service NOW TV too. As of yet, there is no scheduled broadcast for OFMD on TV or NOW TV, so there is no legal way for Britons to watch it. Of course, that means there is no adverts, no interviews or anything as of yet about the show either. Which... is bizarre, considering that so many other new and returning HBO shows are being shown in the UK. It is already clear that HBO way underestimated how popular OFMD would be so maybe they stupidly didn’t think to consider releasing it to UK TV. That will change, of course. The UK is a massive market of potential viewers. It will be released eventually and maybe then it will get its renewal announcement.
Honestly, it just really shows just how impressive it is that OFMD was the most popular new show in the world for 7 straight weeks. HBO max is a partially available streaming service with has half the global users as Disney plus and less than a third of users as Netflix. Despite OFMD only being there, it still got that popular! It is also nice to think that when it does get its UK release, I guarantee there will be a new influx of fans and attention for the show.
Link to an article from 18th May explaining that OFMD is not available in the UK

01/24/24 OFMD Daily Recap
TLDR; Cast and Crew Sightings with clowning; UK News; Wee John Wednesday; RenewAsACrewUpdates; NewTwitter Resource: @AdoptOurCrew; Pirate Omens Watch Party; LubeAsACrew; The Queerties; Petition Status; Final Notes; Love Notes; Rhys & Rosie's Anniversary;
==Cast and Crew Sightings==
David Jenkins got the clowning going really early this morning with a picture of a red sunrise, playing the song "New York Groove" by Ace Frehley.
Tumblr media
There's been a lot of speculation (obviously we don't know what it means for sure) but the current fan theories going around are:
1. "Red Skies In Morning, Sailor's Take Warning" which Djenkins previously posted prior to a new OFMD Trailer being released back in Sept. Thanks @saltpepperbeard!
Tumblr media
2. Some folks think that the Red color is to help indicate Netflix as it is very similar to their signature red. @_Irene_Adler
Tumblr media
3. Others are going towards the AppleTV route since out in sunnyside queens, there is an Apple building nearby. @skrifores
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Do we actually know? Nope, just conjecture, but it left people wanting to target Netflix and AppleTV more today in terms of hashtags. Which is great cause the Pirate Omens Focused on PrimeVideo in the afternoon.

==Ruibo Qian also made a profound update on IG==
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Amplifying positive intent toward a paradigm is what solidifies it into live experience".
Take these updates as you will, but one nice thing about being broken apart from Max is we're starting to see the crew reach out again, and all of it seems to be in somewhat of a positive direction.
==More UK News!==
Today’s news from the UK 24 January 2024 - by @lamentus1
Tumblr media
We have a date!! The most amazing news! Season 2 will be available to watch in the UK on BBCiPlayer from Monday 4 February!!! The arrival of season two in the UK will give us an opportunity to organise some attention grabbing events around the show. We’ll keep you posted!
=Convention news=
Starfury Conventions is considering holding an Our Flag Means Death convention here in the UK! We need to show how much interest there is in the idea, so make sure you vote in their poll.
Vote here: https://x.com/starfuryevents/status/1750149921880059968 Make sure they know just how interested we are!
**Note from @gentlebeardsbarngrill: If you are avoiding twitter and need someone to log in and for for you, I have lots of extra twitter handles, just shoot me a DM with what answer you wanna choose and I'll vote on your behalf.**
=Previous Access Poll=
Tumblr media
After a week and 986 votes the poll is closed and we can confidently state that 36.5% of fans can’t even watch Our Flag Means Death season 2 in their country yet! This is more than a third of the dedicated fandom not even able to watch the second season, and yet look at how passionate we all are about renewal. Imagine how that will grow when the second season is shown in those countries that have missed out so far.
The poll is here: @lamentus1 Are you able to watch Season 2?
While this last piece isn't SPECIFICALLY for the UK, it is being run in UK time zone so may be a bit harder for some US folks to join in.
== Wee John Wednesday is back! ==
EDIT: hey all, my sick brain messed this one up, Kristian announced on twitter he was gonna reboot wee john weds and I went to IG cause I wanted to get the link and apparently linked an old IG post. Sorry about the confusion! It hasnt been announced when it will start yet. Thank you to @wastingyourgum for the correction!

== Renew As A Crew News ===
So I was a little hesitant to post this, but I'd like you to read it and then read my notes below. This was posted in the Renew As A Crew Public Discord (If someone actually has access to that can you please invite me? I can dm you my creds, I'd rather get it from the source then bugging people).
Tumblr media
So, essentially, right now they are considering not keeping the Renew As A Crew "brand" if a team internally doesn't step up within the next two weeks. Several volunteers have expressed their concern with this (as Renew As A Crew is already popular and news sites know about it). I have it on good authority that even though this was posted, other volunteers are trying to change that so we can maintain that Renew As A Crew brand. So if you happen to see this floating around -- please understand this is still up in the air-- so please don't lose hope or worry too much about this just yet.
==New Resource Group on Twitter ==
Tumblr media
@adoptourcrew on twitter is trying to keep threads available with compiled resources (similar to these recaps and daily task lists) if you are in fact on twitter, they're a good resource for up to date information. There's been some questions on "who are they!" well they're a fan led group (much like the rest of the campaign) and they will not be focusing on collecting money of any kind, they are an information group. They may suggest fundraisers, but as of right now, no money is exchanging hands with them. So please feel free to check them out here.
== Pirate Omens Watch Party ==
Another fun day of watching good omens with Pirates and Omens fans alike. On to Season 2 tomorrow.
Tumblr media
== Lube As a Crew ==
Tumblr media
Still making waves all. Thanks @_Irene_Adler for posting this
=== The Queerties! ===
Tumblr media
If you have a moment, feel free to head over to the queerties page and do some voting for OFMD! It is.. a really long list, and OFMD only qualifies for two (Vico Oritiz and OFMD in general), but if you have a few minutes it'd help out. It'd be great to at least get those two voted for!
Vote
===Petition Status===
We're so very close to 80K all!
Tumblr media
== Some Final Notes ==
So something I noticed today is that we're not trending as much across all the platforms. On twitter, AdoptOurCrew was sticking to 30-35K per 24 hr period for several days, but now it's down to about 24K. We're down to #2 on Max, and the engagement score has gone down quite a bit. Now that might seem like a bad thing. That might seem like we're losing momentum. But I'd like to offer a different perspective. People are taking breaks. People are still directing their efforts on making things more efficient, and compiling information. People are doing more with less -- higher quality tweets, instagram messages, etc. I know that tumblr isn't really being counted high in those stats that tv companies look at, but Im seeing more people interact and delve deep into analysis of things and hashtags are being used. But most of all I'm seeing people take breaks, whether it's in the global strike for Palestine, or just taking some time to recoup.
Not every day is going to be record breaking, nor should it be, because if it was, it'd be people-breaking too. Take it from someone who's worked on 8 month long quality assurance projects, you're gonna have some down days, and that's a good thing.
We've done SO much in so little amount of time, and with David Jenkins and Ruibo Qian posting uplifting things...they see everything we've done, and while they can't tell us if S3 has been adopted, they are sending love. I don't wanna read too much into it conspiracy wise, but I've seen David multiple times over the past few days post RIGHT when things are getting chaotic across all the platforms. He's watching and he's rooting for us. Don't give up hope, but take this time to take a break. Relax, do something creative and fun that you love. Come back when you're feeling refreshed. We'll get there.
=== How To Help ===
If you are still out doing things for the campaign, here's a reminder on how to help (This is not a directive but a guide for when you come back) How To Help Save OFMD Task List - US How to Help Save OFMD Task List - Outside US
== LOVE NOTEEEES ==
Did you know that you're beautiful? When I say beautiful I mean the non-gendered version. You're like really beautiful, inside and out. Seriously look at you. I can feel your beauty miles and miles away through a computer screen, that's how friggn beautiful you are! You're just such a great fucking person and you should be proud of that. You're gorgeous, and beautiful in all ways, and you deserve to be happy lovelies. As always, love you crew, rest up tonight/today.
=================
Well apparently today is Rhys an Rosie's 20th Anniversary! So tonight's Rhys picture will feature Rosie and her lovely letter of love to our favorite dude.

Some more reasons why I think it would be absolutely bonkers if another streaming service didn't #AdoptOurCrew
1) The demand for OFMD in the US according to Parrot Analytics
I started comparing the demand for different comedy series this morning.
Sex Education's demand is LESS THAN HALF of the demand of Our Flag Means Death in the US. This might be a bit skewed right now by the fact that SE's last season came out in September, whereas OFMD's season 2 came out a month later and the cancellation happened just earlier this month. But STILL. The gap is HUGE.
Wouldn't this be the perfect opportunity for Our Flag Means Death to become the next big inclusive, heartfelt comedy series for Netflix?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I compared OFMD to some other shows too.
According to Television Stats, Hazbin Hotel is the #1 comedy series on any streaming platform based on online engagement. It's on Prime Video. The audience demand for both OFMD and Hazbin Hotel is 'exceptional'.
And then I decided to check the audience demand for Ted Lasso, which is on Apple TV+ and which OFMD is often compared to. Again, OFMD is nearly in the same demand as that one.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2) The worldwide availability of the streaming services:
HBO Max: 61 countries (and Max: Only the US)
Apple TV+: 106 countries
Netflix: 190 countries
Prime Video: 200 countries
If Prime Video picked it up, it could introduce OFMD to 139 new countries. That's millions of people who have never been able to watch this show legally!
3) Season 2 of Our Flag Means Death will be released in the UK starting February 5th
First, I was a little disheartened about this. This far, we've been able to tell the new potential streaming services that "Even the UK hasn't seen S2 yet!" and I thought we're now losing some leverage.
But then I realized that once the UK starts streaming this show, it'll just add to the numbers (that weren't there for renewal, thanks Casey)!

Hi friend! I appreciate your fighting spirit and hope for S3. As much as I'd like for it to be renewed, I think it deserves more than max would give. I'd prefer someone else to pick it up who would give them their 10 episodes and the amount of time they need.
Would it be more beneficial to campaign at potential buyers for a rescue rather than pleading with someone who's already made their decision? I feel like the BBC at least already had enough interest that they brought the broadcasting rights, and they have no problem with short running (3-5 season), 10-episode series. They also have an MO to run programming that is representative of the license fee payers.
Idk, as a UK resident this is the best scenario I can think of. I'm not as familiar with other companies, and I know viewer opinions do carry weight as pretty much everyone in the UK is taxed to fund the BBC. They have a televised show, Points Of View, which is entirely for people to contact with their feelings about currently airing programs.
I don't expect you to have the answer, just thinking out loud! (I did contact renewasacrew about this but haven't heard anything back yet). Regardless, I did contact the BBC myself saying why it'd be beneficial for them to rescue it the day after we got the news.
(They also have a good track record for releasing stuff on DVD)
Yeah, I agree that OFMD is too good for Max. To have a show do THAT well, and then receive a 40% budget cut for its second season, and then get canceled before it can complete its story? Insulting.
I have no industry knowledge, so this is me just wondering out loud, I keep going back and forth on what would be more likely, Max reversing its decision or another streamer picking it up. On the one hand, reversing the decision would be a blow to Zaslav's ego. Men like that don't like admitting they made a mistake. On the other, I imagine there would be more red tape to go through selling the show elsewhere? I don't know! I just wonder. And I just really want that final season!
I don't know a ton about BBC, but from what you say here, it seems like a solid option! And from what I've been hearing, reaching out to specific services (as opposed just tagging all of them in every post) is the way to go. Make it more personalized, make them see the benefits, etc.
Now that @asneakyfox has won me over, my preferred choice at the moment is AppleTV. There's an international audience, they don't seem as IP hungry as Max (Ted Lasso was also anticipated to be three seasons from the beginning, and that's what they got), they appreciate unique, quality shows that value storytelling that may not be picked up elsewhere, such as Severance. They don't seem as strict on run times, so it means we may be able to get longer episodes with Taika and Rhys doing bits! And there are a good amount of parallels between OFMD and Ted Lasso (feel-good comedies that go surprisingly deep, found family, discussions of mental health) that OFMD could very much fill that void Ted Lasso left behind.
But we'll see what happens! The important thing for now is to just continue making it clear how beloved OFMD is and how any platform would be smart to pick up a show with such a passionate, loyal fan base.

Ouch the Heart Foreshadowing
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh man this scene in 1x06 The Art of F**kery is so great (sorry everyone having to suffer my OFMD posts “late”, but it only just got released in the UK, on the BBC).
Blackbeard totally bullshitting, Stede freaking out, Izzy losing his jealous MIND cuz he thinks they’re screwing on deck (which, of course, they are, metaphorically).
But the best (worst) part is Blackbeard “forgetting” that the frigging heart is on the left side of the body (a pretty important organ dontcha think!) in a massive case of foreshadowing, because Stede is about to break his heart into a million pieces and he never saw it coming.
And he’s right - being stabbed in the body with a flesh wound you can survive is one thing, coping with that pain on adrenaline and drink and the mania of his Blackbeard persona, he’s done it so many times before. And, being stabbed in the heart means death, so that’s it, you’re done. But getting your heart well and truly broken for love? Well, that’s another thing; the pain lasts so much longer, and when you finally heal, you’re never quite the same person you were before. Poor bastard, he’s so happy here, with his intimate flesh-wound.
