Summary:

Captain Kairi is the user of the devil fruit the blink blink fruit and has found herself on Trafalgar Law's list of pirates to steal their heart from for him to be granted the rank of warlord of the sea.

Captain Kairi led the pirate crew the Echoing Phantoms from the island of Mu Echo Isles. Kairi and her crew don't chase riches or the legendary one-piece but rather their treasure is the stolen history of their island. Heirlooms that were taken from her island that rot in museums and homes of nobles who spread fabricated tales of the tragic extinction of her people.

Due to Kairi's undesired for riches and power her efforts as a pirate are often overlooked and underestimated which only granted this crew a bounty of 15 million berries placed on only the captain's head which is a small price compared to the other fearsome pirates who roam the grand line. But whispers were often fickle things, easily swayed by gold and ignorance. The truth, buried beneath the surface like a forgotten heirloom, was far more intriguing.

Kairi and her all-female crew of 20 had docked on an island where their next heist would take place but decided to rest for the night and party at the nearby tavern. Kairi sat at the bar next to her first mate carefully watching her crew mingle with the other patrons of the tavern. As she savored the moment of peace in a smoky tavern, the air crackled with an unseen tension.

Trafalgar Law, the Surgeon of Death sat in the back of the tavern while his crew mingled with the Phantom Pirates. He had known her next target would be this island museum. Law was on his own mission to collect 100 hearts of Pirate captains who roam the Grand Line to earn the rank of warlord with the world government. Once Kairi turned her back to wave the bartender down for another drink Law stood up ready for his attack. His blue room covered the tavern his finger twitched to call his 'scalpel' and aimed toward the unaware captain. 

Law's power pushed through the room toward his target but when the cube of the 'scaple' reached the bar it was filled with a piece of the wooden counter the captain had once sat Kairi had vanished. Her first mate jumped back in surprise seeing the piece of the bar floating in a blue cube and her captain missing. Law's eyes slightly widened in surprise but were short-lived as the fierce captain reappeared above him with her sword aiming downwards toward his chest. 

Law was able to jump out of the way of the blade barely in time as he watched the captain embed her blade into the floor of the tavern. A stunned silence as all eyes landed on the two captains locking eyes. The two crews who roamed the bar reached for their weapons ready for a fight while the patrons fled. 

Kairi pulled her heavy sword out from the ground of the tavern and pointed it threateningly at the Surgeon of Death. "And who are you?" Kairi demanded, her voice as sharp as the blade in her hand sending chills down the onlookers. 

Law refused to answer but rather he smirked as a challenge glinted in his eye before he lunged at the woman but Kairi had vanished. Her Blink-Blink Fruit had given her a power that allowed her to move at a speed where if you blink you may miss it. She reappeared behind him and with a swift kick, sent him stumbling. Law, now angered, swung his sword as he spun around only to meet empty air as Kairi had seemingly teleported again, this time she reappeared from above ready to slash her attacker. With a sly maneuver, Law swapped himself with a nearby chair, leaving Kairi to strike the unyielding wood. 

The two crews had entered their own brawl with swords clashing, and fists pounding. the Phantom Pirates were known for their agility and grace, their movements mimicked practiced dancers but with the strength of warriors.

Law began to push himself off the floor where the chair he shambled himself with once lay. Kairi saw the moment of weakness and was on him like a cat. She kicked his side forcing him to fall to his back before she dug her boot into his chest pinning him to the floor, she held his chin up with her cold sword, "What do you want, Trafalgar Law?" Her cold voice demanded. 

Law laughed, "Oh, so you do know who I am. If you know who I am then surely you know what I am here to do." he smirked as a figure moved in the corner of his eye before twitching his fingers, "Shambles". 

Law's form was replaced by Kairi's first mate who looked up terrifyingly at her captain. Kairi swiftly pulled herself off her mate distracted by the switch as Law took his advantage and sent everything skyward with his "Tact". Chairs and tables now flew in circles above them unforgivingly hitting everything in their path. Law smirked evilly at the chaos as he pulled his sword to his cheek with both hands gearing up his next move. 

Kairi grunted as she dodged out of the way of Law's "Injection Shot", She rolled on the ground as she watched Law make contact with a floating chair causing it to explode. Cursing, Kairi Launched herself up and at Law, their swords clashed and echoed through the tavern drawing the attention of the crews. 

To onlookers, they were a whirlwind of steel, their movement defied comprehension as they both vanished and reappeared using their devil fruit abilities. The two crews slowed their fights to watch their captains go toe-to-toe with someone of equal speed and precision and sight neither crew had witnessed. 

"Your bounty does not reflect your skill, Miss Kairi." Law chuckled as he deflected a blow.

Kairi twisted away from his next swing, "I am not in the same bracket as the victims you collect hearts from!" she yelled as she surged towards him pointing her sword toward his chest, Law sidestepped and grabbed her from behind locking his arms under her and keeping her in place.

"Clearly," he growled in her ear, but before he could overpower her, she slammed her head into his chin allowing her to slip free and fall to the floor, sweeping at his legs, forcing him to jump back. He wiped the blood trickling down his chin, a grim smile playing on his lips.

"So Miss Kairi Why the low bounty, then?" he taunted.

Kairi laughed, "Because I am a Woman!" with a newfound anger she launched herself at him and disappeared before reappearing directly in front of him and digging her sword into his right shoulder. 

She pushed her entire body onto his chest and leaned into his ear, "And it is Captain Kairi." She kicked herself off his chest and pulled her sword out of him causing him to scream holding his bloody shoulder. Law fell to his knees panting which caused the entire bar to fall silent. Law's first mate Bepo was the first to run to his captain's aid but only to be stopped by his icey glare demanding him to stay back.

Kairi stood triumphant, her sword a chilling reminder, "I employ you to leave and not attempt my life again. The only reason you are walking out of this alive is that I have allowed it." she ordered menacingly.

Law snarled but realized he had lost the battle and took down his "room" which caused everything that was once in the air to fall to the ground. Law gestured to his crew who all began to walk out of the back with minimal injuries compared to Kairi's crew. "You are right you are not like the other pirates I am after." he pushed his way up and began to follow his crew out. "Captain Kairi," he spoke once more turning to face her. "I look forward to our next fight." He whips around before disappearing out of the bar.

Kairi's crew stood proudly the all-woman crew had beaten the mostly male crew of the heart pirates. Law words rang through Kairi's ears, this wouldn't be the last time she saw this man but she couldn't help the surge of curiosity and excitement to meet him again.

My personal ranking of Izzy ships, based entirely on how much I like them:

1. Blackhands: My beloved toxic dumpster fire! Izzy just has so many feelings here, it’s hard to not want to focus on it. Probably a personal favorite just because of all the interesting power dynamics here (which I love). Hard to ever have a happy ending with this ship, but that’s okay.

2. Steddyhands: I feel like all my favorite fics are this. A good way to get the fun of Blackhands without everyone involved being miserable forever. I love it when the dynamic is “experienced vet helping new intern with world’s meanest cat.” I love it when the dynamic is “divorced couple get a marriage counselor, repair their marriage, also marry the marriage counselor.” And I love it when it’s just straight-up Ed and Stede conspiring together to seduce their grumpy first mate. So many fun takes on this!

3. Lusrael: I ship it more every time I see Nathan and Con do anything together. I think it’s the single most likely ship to happen in canon (not counting the Blackhands failmarriage). I think I’m personally just a little less excited by the dynamic in fics.

4. Gentlehands: Hard for this to not just be Steddyhands, but I do appreciate it on its own. Probably my favorite angle is “bitter rivals must team up to win back their ex, have hatesex, spend the whole time imagining their rival is actually their ex, accidentally fall in love.”

5. Calicohands: This ship made me actually like Jack as a character, sometimes. I think Jack’s style of affection of affection is something Izzy could actually accept (tackle-hugs, nuggies, friendly shoulder punch, etc) and while it’s not optimal, our poor baby might be touch-starved enough to like it anyway. I also like Jack having unrequited feelings and the resulting angst (in case you couldn’t tell from my #1 ship).

6. Jackie/Izzy: They’re actually friends, maybe! And Jackie would be the type of dom Izzy would love. Izzy does seem more gay than bi to me though, unfortunately.

7. Izzy/OC: Obviously highly variable. I’ve certainly enjoyed Izzy/Bryce from HoHW quite a lot, as well some other one-off portrayals of Sam. But #7 is probably appropriate in terms of how likely I am to actively seek out such fics.

8. Ivan/Fang/Izzy: I think I saw some art of this like once and it was good art. Also I see David and Con taking newlywed pics together and it makes me like Fang/Izzy more. IDK. They’re there, they know each other, it could happen.

9. Izzy/Roach: They both like sharp weapons. Roach at least tried to give Izzy a sandwich once, which was nice. But they don’t have much actual or implied interaction in the show.

10. Jim/Izzy: I’m very excited about them together platonically. Maybe it could work romantically? But unlike Lucius and Pete, Jim/Olu don’t come off as quite so poly.

11. Izzy/Pete: They could bond over being Blackbeard fans. They could get together by both dating Lucius. Possibilities exist.

11. Izzy/Frenchie: I’ve enjoyed some fics of this, but overall, I admittedly don’t see the appeal. Frenchie taunted Izzy with “In your face, Jizzy!” after he lost the duel. Izzy held Frenchie at gunpoint in a scary (rather than a sexual tension-y) way. It feels like this ship is just happening because Frenchie and Izzy are stuck on the same ship together post-e10.

12. Izzy/Buttons: Butthands is a terrible name. I think Buttons is in a monogamous relationship with the sea. Good art though.

13. Izzy/Wee John: John is big and could lift Izzy in a princess carry. I can’t think of anything else to say here.

14. Izzy/Olu: I feel like this would be a healthy relationship for Izzy, because Olu is the type of person who has healthy relationships. Therefore, Izzy would never go for him.

15. Izzy/Swede: I feel like Izzy would actually hate this. The Swede is probably the least competent member of the Revenge crew. This relationship would be a disaster and not in the fun way like Blackhands is.

16. Izzy/Mary: I really really like them platonically. So much. But I feel like a romance would make negative sense.

17. Izzy/Chauncey: This actually skeeves me out, no.

12. where does your character's name come from?

if we're talking in her story, her name came from snatcher. when she defrosted from her containment in ice from the kingdom's freeze over, snatcher noticed that she had a glowstick hung around her neck and it was able to glow again. (which is something that can actually happen if you freeze one irl!!!!) so at first, he named her "glow" because she couldn't recall her name when he asked for it. she also had an affinity a worm on a string toy he found and started calling her "glow worm" most times she goes by wormie. snatcher also often gives her glowsticks too to keep her happy.

as far as why I personally chose that name for her, i can't recall the specific reason i ultimately chose that name aside from it aligning with aspects of her design. since she has a very glowy aesthetic and her hair was meant to look like worms on a string. also bc i wanted it to fit her personality, given she's like a scene kid in a way lol.

her name before her death was "ella" because it's meant to somewhat reference the name cinderella, which snatcher calls her once when a party outfit she has gets destroyed.

15. what are your character's opinions on Mustache Girl and/or her motives?

wormie would probably want to be mu's friend but if she labelled her as a bad guy for hurting her friend's feelings on accident, she might think of her as a meanie. but i think wormie would also somewhat understand mu's motives or feelings of being lonely. but once mu starts taking over the planet wormie might think of her as a "big meanie!!" for trapping people she regards as friends.........

23. how does your oc feel about the nyakuza?

wormie would probably be so excited to see them and be like "OH EM GEE!! KITTIES!!!" and she would float around the metro after them and maybe try to pet or play with them. she'd also probably love the metro for its glow and neon-ness.

9. does your oc know any of the main cast?

she is very familiar with the residents of subcon, namely snatcher since she's considered one of his minions/dwellers. when it comes to the rest of the planet, she knows a few who have wandered into the forest but she always tries to make friends everywhere that she goes.

7. how would you character feel in alpine?

wormie would probably be enchanted with the colors and sights of alpine. she would pet the goats and play games with the nomads. i have always thought of wormie visiting the twilight bell and feeling rather......... at home... there.

12. where does your character's name come from?

for cassidy's name i can't remember why i chose the name cassidy to represent him? i guess for some reason the name really stuck in my mind when i heard it and typically i name my characters the first thing that comes to mind. i also decided to give him a name-name rather than following the vague naming convention most in-game characters do. if he didn't have an actual name, he'd probably be named "the hotelier," which is what you call someone who runs a hotel, which he does.

the name he has in-storywise with his character, the name he goes by is actually his last name, which he prefers over his first name. his first name is actually "paris" but he isn't as fond of it and in a sense is trying to reclaim the name he was given by his parents, since their surname is the name of the hotel anyway. the name paris comes from mice and i joking about this song called "paris & nicole" fitting the duo's vibes. (the duo being her ahit oc nicole and cassidy)

15. what are your character's opinions on Mustache Girl and/or her motives?

cassidy doesn't really consider mu to be all that much of a threat at first and kinda gets where she's coming from. but once he's accused of being a bad guy he kinda grows a grudge against her. he likes to portray himself to be perfect and wonderful and being recognized and perceived for his flaws can set him off, and for mu to see through that would anger him.

23. how does your oc feel about the nyakuza?

i think cassidy has met them once or twice when they've taken up residence in his hotel. i think he's also met with empress before and probably bought something from her jewelry store before.

9. does your oc know any of the main cast?

cassidy has met dj grooves and conductor for the first time on a red carpet meet up and at awards ceremonies. they are aware of one another but are a bit at odds for sharing a common goal. cassidy has also knows snatcher fairly "well," if breaking into his forest for movie related purposes often counts. cassidy is also familiar with many of the express owls, crows (caw agents and lil baby ones) and some of the moon penguins. he of course also has met hat kid and bow kid before as well.

everyone else he knows very vaguely, possibly even been customers at his hotels once before.

7. how would you character feel in alpine?

he probably loves alpine tbh. i do imagine he's probably been there many times before in the past and it's probably where he's met the crows and gained a lot of his employees from.

A not-so-short post where I info dump about one of my ocs. Requested by the one and only @clownfucker9000 , aka Pennywise's worst nightmare.

[TW for religious trauma, violence and self harm]

Basic info

Cojocaru Alin Valeriu Other names: Anthony, Tony, Raphael. Born: May 10, 1850 (25); Iași, Principality of Moldavia. Death: January 15, 1875; Iași, Romania.

Cause of death: Execution by hanging. Ability: [St Raphael]: His body is surrounded by a comforting aura, making anyone in distress that enters its radius feel hopeful, loved and safe. People who come in contact with him often refuse to leave his side. Job/Occupations: Former land owner. Languages spoken: Romanian, English, French. Favorite animal(s): Cats, Eurasian hoopoe, common cuckoo. Favorite food: Zacuscă, ciorbă de perișoare, găluște cu prune, apple pie, cornulețe cu gem. Favorite color(s): Black, dark brown, violet. Family: Unnamed parents, unnamed grandmother. Love interest: Benjamin Aaron Brown.

Backstory

  He was born on May 10, 1850 in Iași (small history lesson: during that time, the city was part of Principality of Moldavia but it became part of Romania at some point during his life, reason why I usually say he’s Romanian and not Moldovan). His family was rich, but also quite strict and neglectful. To make a long story short, they had good intentions (most of the time) because they wanted their child to have a good life and get that education, but the execution was terrible. They were modeled after your average old/traditional Eastern European family, so that’s to be expected. The highly religious themes are also to be expected though, considering this timeline.   “Spirits” are technically ghosts in my story, in short. Every spirit has a recurring theme surrounding them, and Anthony’s theme is religion. I find this topic interesting and I wanted to explore it more. Also, I didn’t mean to paint it in a bad light. As a matter of fact, I made sure to highlight both the good and the bad, such as the fact that back then it was used to manipulate the public, but also that it helped individuals. This will come back once Sir Guidance shows up.

  Point is, people were very religious back then and kids didn’t really have a choice but to “obey”. And although Anthony enjoyed going to church and so on, things got weird as he grew older and noticed some shady things about the local priest. From then on he started questioning everything. His beliefs didn’t really change, but his view on the community did. He couldn’t keep his mouth shut back then, so he was pretty vocal about his opinions, which didn’t sit right with the public. This especially angered his parents because it stained their reputation. Because of this, he became kind of an outcast, which affected his social life.

  Fast forward and now he’s in his early 20’s.Although he stopped being vocal about his opinions and his reputation was getting better, he still has a hard time fitting in. Not only because of the terrible social skills, but also because the pressure and neglect got to him and now he’s dealing with some mental issues too. But somehow, he found a girlfriend. While trying to get his life together, he met a woman named Dochia Angelica (last name has yet to be chosen lol), and the two soon started dating. Her love felt genuine to him at first. But as years passed, she started treating him quite badly as soon as her bag was secured, because yeah she was only in for the money.

  He still loved her, she was one of the few people who showed him kindness especially to such an extent, but her behavior was affecting him negatively. He tried to end the relationship, but she refused to let him go. She threatened to ruin his reputation again by lying that he got her pregnant and that’s the only reason why he’s leaving. The situation gets heated, Anthony is visibly in distress, and he kind of…kills her. A decision he regrets as soon as he realizes what he had done.   Now for my favorite part: the trial. I spend so much time researching law and how it functioned back in the 1800’s in Eastern Europe but I barely found anything so it’s a mix between new law and old law, idk I kind of wanna polish it. But yeah, Anthony turns himself in. His family got him a lawyer anyway in a desperate attempt to clear his name, trying to convince the judge that it was an accident or suicide or literally anything else. But it was all in vain. In the meantime, rumors were spreading and the public decided that Anthony might be a satanist, giving those opinions he used to share and the fact that he killed someone. Added this part for fun and accuracy because Eastern European communities be like that, especially back then. Also, the shady priest only encouraged people and treated the rumors as facts just because he was salty that Tony called out the scummy stuff he was doing (although the priest wasn't affected at all because nobody believed Anthony, but still, they had beef and this old guy was beyond excited that Tony is in deep shit).   So yeah, Anthony gets executed. But he comes back in the form of a spirit. All the way in buttfuck North Carolina though, because the system is broken (wink wonk).

Trivia

I know this is already long enough, but I want to ramble about some details I put into his story because omg I had so much fun with this. -Starting off with Dochia’s name. Not only was it popular back then, but it’s also a reference to a character in Romanian mythology. There are multiple versions of the story, but most of them end with Dochia freezing to death on a mountain which is a reference to Anthony’s fate. He was executed during winter, reason why his body is freezing cold. Dochia is also often related to Dragobete, a holiday named after Dochia’s son (at least in one of the versions). The holiday is Romania’s version of Valentine’s, and since Anthony’s character is heavily based around love it’s pretty self explanatory. -When Anthony gets reborn as a spirit, he goes by the name of Raphael, which is a reference to the archangel. I chose him because he’s the gospel of marriage and also (in short) healing. For context, spirits in my story gain an ability based on some aspect of their life. Anthony’s ability helped people feel at peace and heal (mentally), and his presence could only be felt by the ones in distress.   -Speaking of design, his irises are shaped like the ones of a goat (since they're often associated with Satanism, but also because the wider field of vision given by the unique shape allows them to watch out for predators). Arc

Sir Guidance was a man who found out about the existence of spirits and spend his life researching them. In the end, he killed himself in order to be reborn as a powerful spirit. His plan worked out and now he rules over his own cult with Anthony as his right hand man. He keeps Anthony around because of his ability. To make a long story short, Anthony is the sole reason why that cult has any followers, because most members were drawn by his aura and forced to stay. Sir Guidance also has the ability to mind control, but using it on so many people at the same time would be too exhausting. He does occasionally use it to keep Anthony in check though.

Near the end of the arc, Sir Guidance gets too caught up with two spirits who infiltrated in his cult in order to free the followers, and completely forgets to check on Anthony who is now re-developing sentience. He's still in a daze, but manages to connect the dots and tries to help the intruders escape behind Sir Guidance's back. But Guidance finds out and orders the followers to bash Anthony's head with a rock (another biblical reference because I cannot get enough of those) as a form of punishment. But instead of learning something from this delightful experience, after he regenerates (spirits can do that, yeah), Anthony bashes Sir Guidance's head in retaliation and drops the rock on his skull so he would be unable to regenerate.

Then Guidance gets locked up in a mirror where he belongs, Anthony gets rescued by the two spirits and the rest is history.

I knew Rose’s answer before they told me, our fandom discussions have been a highlight of my life every few days for going on four years, and I knew that mine—as it seems so many of my answers in life tend to be—was much less concise. “It doesn’t feel right to pick one, but I already know my lens,” I tell them in an Instagram voice note, an on-going “whenever you’re around” conversation that after about a year of use must amount to hundreds of hours worth of discussion, nearly all involving our fandoms and fan culture at large.

I have identified as a “fangirl” for as long as I can remember, long enough that I still can’t always bring myself to use the more widely accepted term of “stan”, long enough that although I was officially too young for an account I have vivid memories of 2013-15 tumblr culture, long enough that despite only being twenty-one I have earned the term “fandom elder” entirely on accident. Maybe I was six? When my older sister Abby introduced me to a song called Fearless, only for me to be paying out the nose to see Taylor sing it live fifteen years later on the Eras Tour. I might’ve been eight, when this madman in a bow tie lit up the hospital room where I was getting cancer treatments. I definitely couldn’t have been older than eleven, though, by then I had a tumblr account, a rotating cast of dedicated fandom OC’s, and a t-shirt reading “Booknerd” with the classic Harry Potter-Percy Jackson-Hunger Games “Big Three” logo right beneath. By the time I entered middle school I was a self declared expert on the television shows Doctor Who, Glee, Star Trek, and Criminal Minds, and had read (or rather listened) to the Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, and Lord of the Rings series’ over a hundred times through, etv. There’s not much else to do when you’re a chronically ill child, stuck in bed, alone, and desperate to live without having to leave the hospital.

Although it is arguably the least interesting branch I hit while falling down the tree of intersectionality, as the child of lesbian parents, as an ethnically Jewish person, and as a someone who was born—and has spent my entire life—chronically ill and disabled, my identity as a woman has always been the one that has effected my fandom experience the most. (I must acknowledge here that I can only speak to my experience as one cisgender white woman, and that the experiences of those who are women of color, trans, nonbinary, and/or not attracted to men, are invariably going to be not only much different, but in many ways much more difficult than my own.)

For as long as I can remember, I have navigated the world with a hyperawareness of gender-based violence and discrimination, I think it’s impossible not to do so when growing up in an all-girl family, much less one where both my moms had experienced said violence, and where they both used fandom to cope themselves. If there was a time I did not, it was before the age of ten, when I was a victim of CSA at the hands of the medical system and the men who run it; to this day I can’t listen to the particular Lord of the Rings audiobook I had playing when it happened without bursting in to tears. It is imperative, in my view, to understand my hyperawareness of misogyny, to understand my experience with fandom. I came in to fan communities, and spent much of my formative time in them, in the proliferation of the peak NLog (not like other girls) years.

Bombarded with memes, texts posts, and a general atmosphere that the only “correct” way to exist as a girl, and especially a young girl (specifically one who was twelve pretending to be fifteen), was to not be like other girls. I must not be “shrill”, overly argumentative, disdainful of the casual sexism that lurks underneath the surface of many fan spaces, I must not bad-mouth venerated male creators (bad mouthing, of course, including questioning why it is so unreasonable to wish for a television writing team with more than a single woman), I must not overtly enjoy things like makeup, but I must still be effortlessly pretty (preferably with blue “orbs” and a red messy bun), I must not like pink (purple is usually fine though), and I must not actually say I am not like other girls, but must look upon their love of Taylor Swift, Gossip Girl, One Direction, and Twilight with disdain all the same.

This avalanche of expectations, reinforced by my online companions in fandom communities, as well as by my “enemies”, those who sent anonymous messages that I should kill myself for committing the great sin of writing a Doctor Who Jack/Nine/Rose “Makeover” one shot, caused an inordinate amount of cognitive dissonance, and was often deeply isolating. In my “real life” girls who shared my interests in clothes, makeup, sewing, and my nearly decade-long membership in Girl Scouts were not interested in talking about X-Men comics, Star Trek Expanded Universe novels, or the latest episode of Doctor Who. In my online world I could get my head bitten off in an instant simply for saying I thought it was unfair “girly girls” were usually portrayed as vapid and dumb in series like Percy Jackson and Harry Potter, and god forbid you have the audacity to like Molly Hooper on Sherlock or worse, Sansa Stark from Game of Thrones.

Over the years my involvement in fandoms have waxed and waned, I’ve been bullied out of three (including anonymous death and rape threats in two and getting doxxed at the tender age of thirteen over one), Doctor Who, Marvel, and Taylor Swift. All for different reasons, but all really coming down to the idea I like “traditionally feminine” things too much, whether that be “pretty” actors like Matt Smith, “feminist” heroes like Captain Marvel, or “girly” albums like Lover. And yet, I keep coming back, I came back after the Game of Thrones finale (and have two over 100k viewed fanfics on AO3 to show for it), I came back for the thirteenth and fourteenth (no, I will not call him fifteen) Doctors, and have even tentatively poked my head back into the Avatar the Last Airbender and Percy Jackson fandoms with their respective renaissances.

It’s easy to ask why I continue to subject myself to the “fandom experience”, and in turn to chalk it up to the chemical processes involved in my ADHD, my desperation for a community I can participate in despite my chronic pain and fatigue, or simply the fact I got involved so young I don’t know how to live without them. I think it’s a lot simpler than that, though, I think it’s because I process the world through writing, and because above else I love to write. Whether it be fan fiction, meta, or original works branching off from the questions the media I love continually invites me to ask, writing is my great passion, and the fandoms and franchises I fall in love with are the ones that spark my motivation to write; whether I’m analyzing Taylor Swift lyrics, breaking down the celebrity culture I’ve watched for over a decade in my original novel, or writing fan-fiction where once in a while I still love a good makeover montage. Fandom introduced me to writing, writing became the way I process the world, and in the circular nature of life, writing is what will always bring me back to fandom.
