Objections
It's 2001, Seattle, Washington.
Janus Pater has fought every obstacle - literally and figuratively - to survive as long as he has. Logan Croft is a young father and is married to his old college girlfriend, Kelly. Their law professor's flippant partner assignment has forced these two disparately orbiting men together.
Roman and Remus Prince are sophomores at the associated undergraduate college. To their fellow students, they're identical, however they approach life and solve their problems in very different ways.
Somehow, (most of) their paths cross in one way or another. Buckle up, because it's a bumpy ride.
Objections takes place chronologically before Happily Ever After but should be read after and contains spoilers for that story.

The floors inside were padded. All the walls were curved and all the doors were oversized arches. The buildings themselves lay on articulated springs with inertial dampeners. The Humans looking at them had one objection.
"It's an egg," said Human Nudd, reluctant to enter her shelter. "You expect me to live in an egg? I'm not a chook."
Companion Nes had not been prepared for this rebellion. Their humans had previously enjoyed novelty-shaped practical objects. "It is egg-shaped, I grant, but this structure is scientifically recommended in environments where crushing damage is a significant risk. Those sky-rays are wont to roost on anything and other structures do not have the ability to withstand their weight."

I just think that 'animals are living intelligent creatures that have feelings and deserve to be respected' and 'when done properly farming is beneficial to both people and animals and there's nothing wrong with raising and killing animals for food, clothing, and other products' are concepts that very much can and should coexist
#i think a lot of people get too carried away in farming discourse to actually remember both of these things#some people are so aggressively anti-farming that they forget that meat and fur are necessary for some people#and that farming helps prevent overhunting of certain species#but some people are so aggressively pro-farming that they begin to think of animals as objects#that only exist to provide them with a product#animals deserve to be treated with respect and be given the best care possible while they're alive#but that doesn't mean that its a bad thing for them to die

I think we need to get more comfortable with the idea that sometimes shitty, racist, homophobic, bigoted people are still incredibly talented.
I feel like every time I see a post addressing someone’s shitty behavior the post also takes the time to mention that they’re not even good at [x] anyway. And that’s just not always true? Equating being good at a skill as being morally good is just not necessary. Someone can be a fantastic writer, can have a beautiful singing voice, can create breathtaking artwork, and still be a horrible person.
I know part of this is probably just the instinct to dislike everything about a person when you dislike them, but I also think this mindset leads to people defending creatives way past where they should, because if bad people create bad art, then if this person creates art that I like and resonates with me, then they can’t be a bad person!
And you know. That’s just not true. Those two things are simply completely unconnected and I think it’d be healthier if we all started disconnecting them in our heads.
