“your majesty, if you could please stop blowing out the candle…” you sighed, watching as the monarch killed out the fire once again.
the princess turned to look at you with that little mischievous smile playing on her lips. well, you couldn’t exactly call that ‘mischievous’. nothing about her was in the slightest evil. maybe except for her love to bug you and your work.
“what do you need those for anyway?” she asked as you took out the matches, planning to light the candle again.
“the ceremony, your majesty. it is a big thing i suppose.”
jihye let out a sigh and leaned over the table. a small and very unusual frown played on her face.
“i don’t really want to get married to any of them… it’s not that i think they’re bad people! i just don’t know them i guess?”
“you needn’t explain yourself to me, your highness.” the smile returned to her face. not so surprisingly, she blew out the candle, laughing immediately at your annoyed face.
“will you be there to accompany me?”
“if that’s what your majesty wishes for, then yes, i will.”
“good.” she took the matches from your hands. lighting one up, you watched with worried eyes as she brought the flame to the knot. “i expect to see you later then.”

the party was boring, to put it bluntly. maybe it was because you weren’t there to enjoy it in the first place.
as the princess’s servant, you work was to stand by her side and attend her needs. maybe tell the musicians to change the tune, if she wishes so.
right now, it was hard to tell what the princess actually wanted. danielle stood near the candles, denying every single of the suitors that arrived. although the older royals wore disappointing looks on their faces, they didn’t seem much surprised at her behaviour.
even at the fact that every three people that came to her, she would turn to you, and with a bright smile, stretch her hand out.
speaking of, the third person since the last event just walked away.
“y/n, would you dance with me now?”
“it is quite unprofessional for you to address me by my name, your majesty.” your back straightened when the princess finally moved from her spot (after standing there for exactly 18 suitors).
“oh, come on! i’ve known you longer that i can name. the least you can do is allow me to call you by your name.” she could in fact name the number- eight years and three months- but you didn’t need to know that. she thought it would be embarrassing, that she kept count of that.
“i don’t think the elders would quite like that.” she laughed, laying her hand on your arm to support herself. in reflex, you stiffened in your spot, making her let out a disapproving hum.
“why so stiff all the time? would it kill you to relax?” the princess teased.
“not me necessarily. her majesty, on the other hand… it is my duty to keep an eye out, ma’am.”
“oh well. dance with me?”
“it’s a risky thing to do, your highness… everyone would be watching us.”
“i’m willing to take the risk.”
