This is coming up with Orym, and it came up with Yasha and to an extent Keyleth too (as well as many other characters; see tags). Anyway: there is never going to be a moment when those characters are not grieving. If you wait for them to stop grieving, you will wait until they themselves die - and to be clear I do not mean this in the sense of “the grieving spouse clearly seeks death so that they may be reunited”; I mean “that loss will always exist in their lives, and they will grow around it and find other joy and love, but there is no moment when the hole that person left closes and is gone.” You can interpret where those characters are in their grieving process, which is a complex and nonlinear one, and you may perhaps feel they’re not ready, but if you do, it’s worth asking yourself what “ready” would look like because it will not look like an absence of grief. More specifically to Orym, if you are rethinking this because there was a scene at Will’s grave, that’s a big part of the nonlinear aspect - how someone will speak about the death graveside, or how they may speak about it in specific places, or on anniversaries, is very different to their day-to-day experience with grief.
Which isn’t to say you can’t interpret Orym as still in, for lack of a better term, the full mourning period; I’m noting it both because it is a pattern in the fandom for characters who have lost spouses, and because within that pattern, the discussion seems to treat life after the death of a partner as a dichotomy of “grieving” and “not grieving”, in which romantic love is only possible when one is in the "not grieving" state, which is fundamentally untrue to life.

HARRY BELAFONTE (1927- Died April 25th 2023,at 96.Congestive Heart failure). American singer, activist, and actor. As arguably the most successful Caribbean-American pop star, he popularized Jamaican mento folk songs which was marketed as Trinbagonian Calypso musical style with an international audience in the 1950s. His breakthrough album Calypso (1956) was the first million-selling LP by a single artist.Belafonte was best known for his recordings of "The Banana Boat Song", with its signature "Day-O" lyric, "Jump in the Line", and "Jamaica Farewell". He recorded and performed in many genres, including blues, folk, gospel, show tunes, and American standards. He also starred in several films, including Carmen Jones (1954), Island in the Sun (1957), and Odds Against Tomorrow (1959). Belafonte won three Grammy Awards (including a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award), an Emmy Award,and a Tony Award. In 1989, he received the Kennedy Center Honors. He was awarded the National Medal of Arts in 1994. the way gohan’s trauma is so bound up with things he loves the most just kills me...
he adores and idolizes piccolo, to the point of dressing just like him so he can be identified as his student. now obviously piccolo grew into a loving and dependable father figure, but their relationship explicitly started as piccolo kidnapping gohan so he could mold the kid into his image... and he still did! even if it didn’t go as planned.
the great saiyaman is an outlet for gohan to have fun using his powers (for once!) but he’s also echoing the poses and attitude of the ginyu force that terrorized him a child.
the scholarly career he’s so passionate about is literally centered on the study of insects... as if the most traumatic experience of his life didn’t revolve around a giant insect.
he has a wonderful marriage with videl and a warm relationship with mr. satan, but that’s because he was comfortable forever tying himself to a family who continues to profit off of his childhood trauma.
it’s not that it’s inherently bad or unhealthy for him to do any of these things - all of these relationships and pursuits make him who he is! but it’s just so sad that there’s very little in his life gohan can love simply and without complication. and the fact that it seems to be a kind of unconscious pattern... please go to therapy gohan.
