Sonic underground does have an ending in Sonic Universe Issue 50, it follows the scraped script for the final episode and has the triplets turn Super. The Super forms are nice because they aren't all gold but it's kinda goofy because they're instruments turn Super with them.

This might be the Hispanic in me showing, but one of my headcanons about Sonic’s bio family is essentially, “all of your possible parents are now a huge extended family, and no one knows which one of them you spawned from”

Hear me out.

This works best if Jules, Aleena, and Paulie are siblings. Chuck’s their eldest brother, while Brenda and Bernadette married in—but they’re all very close. Brenda and Aleena had their kids at about the same time (I’m talking days, if not hours, apart), and while Brenda only had one, Aleena shocked the family with three.

(Alternatively, Aleena only had two, and one of them was born to Bernadette—again, around the same time. That’s largely irrelevant, though.)

So naturally, you’ve got a very confused mom getting wheeled to the nursery to see her babies, like:

“I thought you said there were only three.”

A hapless nurse, or possibly Jules: “…Yes?”

Aleena, shaking: “Then why are there four of them???”

Whoever their parents are, Tania grows up very, very close with Sonic, Manic, and Sonia. They’re effectively siblings despite being born cousins. Naturally, everyone in the family leads very busy lives—and whether you imagine them in a royal household, in the midst of a rebellion, or as commoners in peacetime, that doesn’t matter much either. They’re family, they have each other—which means that if one of them has to to work a particular night, someone else is babysitting their kids that night. And they all do it to each other, so it evens out.

(Except for Chuck. Chuck has no kids of his own. He insists he get to help because he loves his nieces, nephews, and siblings, but Chuck will get paid for babysitting.)

They’re not alone, either. Longclaw is functionally the matriarch/cryptid of the family—no one knows for sure how old she is or how she’s related to them, but they do know she’s lived through two wars, two virus outbreaks, and despite her kind demeanor, has epic tales of the time she fought Black Doom with a spear. Maddie was once friends with somebody’s cousin, and while that cousin is long gone, she and Tom are now too close to the family to leave, and always organize the family potlucks because no one else wants to. And Sonic and Sonia’s adoptive parents from Underground—haven’t thought about them long enough to have names for them yet—are here too. They’re aunts and uncles who are slightly more well off than the rest of the family, so if there’s ever financial trouble, and they catch wind of it, they’ll always race to the struggling one’s doorstep with a warm meal and a modest gift of money, hidden in a couch cushion.

The point is, they’re close. They rely on each other a lot. Somebody would always be available to take the kids. The kids would need not look very far to find loving arms to hold them, or teach them about the world, or patch up a scraped knee or two. Or eight.

And the moment Sonic brings home Tails?

Well, they’re already shuffling four kids between them. What’s a fifth, in the midst of all this chaos?

Summary of the main story part of my Sonic Underground AU ig from Sonics perspective lol

Sonic finds out he has an alive mother and possibly siblings out in the world somewhere, not too bothered about it though he's fine and happy w the family and friends and life he has now :]

However, fate would have it that he'd bump into a girl who is looking for the same Aleena who claimed to be his mother. He's roped in by Tails to help the poor girl since she seems to be a bit lost and a little naive of the wider world considering she got scammed out of all of the money she had for her travel budget, the feeling of needing to help her (mostly from Tails lol) is doubled when she claims that she believes that Aleena is Her mother. Sonic doesn't reveal what he knows about their possible relation because of his general discomfort with the situation as a whole.

Fortunately for Sonia, Sonic and Tails had to do a lot of unpaid travelling when they were smaller and without money lol so they manage to get themselves onto a train (Sonia refuses to get into the Tornado, not much of a flier fhfjf). Unfortunately for Sonia, who is used to cushy upper class travel, they are in the luggage car of the train with a load of cases and trunks and boxes and grime and bugs, and quite a few other people taking the same approach to rail travel.

This is where Sonia recognises a particular green hedgehog she had come across earlier, and she is Not happy to see him. She causes a commotion that alerts some security / staff and leaves Manic out in the open where everyone else managed to hide. Sonic, because he's Sonic, manages to get the staff member(I think it would be funny if it was Barry fhfjf) to leave them just this once and this gains Manic's Full respect. Though there's still some tension between Manic and Sonia, they find out they're all heading to the same city, and Manic says he'll make it up to Sonia by helping them navigate the city cus he's Totally been there before and Definitely knows the exact street and house that's on the return address of Sonic's letter, mhm :]

So the tension settles (for now) and the four of them make their way to the part of the city where they believe Aleena to be. Hijinks ensue lol

First exposure to Sonic was my parents having CDs of AoStH and Underground and then watching Sonic Boom while it was airing. We also had the Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games discs that I would play before I got my first mainline Sonic game, Forces.

Tangentially related, but I vividly remember this one specific Sonic Boom commercial where everyone was in the real world and trying to get a cat unstuck from a tree and being really bad at it, and Sonic saying "We're better at this in our world," and I'm pretty sure that's the sole reason why I'm into fourth wall breaks and also why I constantly think about my favorite shows but if I got isekai'd there

A whole-ass analysis of Sonic's relationships with women, started by one stupid meme I saw on Discord

Description: Eggman showing a photo of Sally Acorn (from Sonic SatAM, with a design from the Archie comics), Queen Aleena (from Sonic Underground), Blaze the Cat (from the videogames, with a design from one of the 2010s games) and Princess Elise (from Sonic 06), pointing at that photo and saying "Dear Sonic fans: if Sonic is a freedom fighter, why does he keep supporting monarchs? Curious."

I know this is supposed to be funny (and Eggman is being fallacious in order to make his nemesis look bad, which is to be expected), but it actually got me thinking.

We've all seen at least one Sonic fan complaining (either rightfully or not) about writers always trying to shoehorn introduce a human girl as a new love interest for Sonic. This seems to happen no matter what piece of official Sonic content it is, whether it's made in Japan or made by Western authors, whether it's tie-in/licensed media or material directly controlled/overseen by SEGA and Sonic Team.

Well, here's another similar phenomenon, which is why I'm writing this: in so many continuities both Western and Japanese, there's frequently a female character from royalty whom Sonic becomes or already is emotionally close to.

In the Discord server where this image was posted, someone else brought up a good point: Sonic being a "freedom fighter" or any other sort of guerrilla warrior is a thing only in the now-defunct Western continuity (SatAM & Archie, and the British comic published by Fleetway), whereas he's "just some guy doing his own thing" everywhere else. The interpretation of "Sonic is a free spirit" by the many branches of the Sonic series comes into play here, too: "just some guy" Sonic from the videogames and "freedom fighter" Sonic from SatAM are different interpretations of that description of the character's personality (this will be important later).

After looking at that image, I realized something else: in most cases, the fact that those characters are royalty either isn't heavily relevant to the plot or isn't treated as something unequivocally good/desirable.

Sonic SatAM didn't really emphasise Sally being a princess and the heir to the Acorn King's throne. It was in the pre-reboot Archie comic that some writers started focusing on Sally's status as royalty... and also being weird and creepy about it in the process (pre-reboot Archie-Sonic is also the only piece of official content outside of Sonic Underground where you'll see Sonic actively defending a monarchy, albeit this happened only because of Ian Flynn's awkward attempt to create drama, not because he intended to convey a pro-monarchy message through his stories).

The same happened with Blaze: as far as I remember from playing Sonic Rush, her being a princess is casually mentioned a few times, and this happens mostly when Blaze is talking to herself and thinking about something, not during a conversation with another character (there's one specific instance where Blaze's status might be relevant for her character arc, but I'll talk about that later). Something similar happens with Merlina in Sonic & the Black Knight: she's royalty as well (Kinda? I'm not sure which exact position she used to have in Camelot's society before Sonic showed up, but I'm sure it was an important one), but the conflict she's part of is related to a different facet of her personality, and you could tell the story anyway without mentioning Merlina's status.

For Blaze and Elise (and Sally, but only when the writer is not Ken Penders or Michael Gallagher), if any of those characters being royalty is mentioned or focused on, it's not really portrayed in a good way or as something that makes any of them happy. Blaze being "the princess of Sol" comes with the duty of protecting the Sol Emeralds, which led to her isolating herself, and her character arc in Sonic Rush is all about overcoming that and trusting others once again.

As for Elise... Well, there's a reason why, when people try to argue the story for Sonic 06 could have been great if given enough time, they often use Shadow's or Silver's story rather than Sonic's as an example of 06's potential, but still... At least the bones for a compelling story surrounding Elise are already there, and I'm willing to bet it'd be kinda similar to Blaze's character arc in Sonic Rush.

And here's another similarity between Blaze and Merlina. The latter felt she had the duty to save Camelot at all costs, and while it's debatable whether or not Merlina was being emotionally crushed by that self-imposed duty in the same way Blaze, Elise and Sally were, it's clear that her obsession with that duty backfired spectacularly and ended up being potentially harmful to everyone else in Camelot in the finale of Sonic & the Black Knight.

[The only exception to all this, as well as the only case where Eggman may be at least partially right in that meme, would be Queen Aleena (who also breaks a trend here, since she's Sonic's mom in Sonic Underground). But the consensus in the Sonic fandom is that Underground is so far removed from what both the character and the franchise represent that it's not really Sonic content anymore, so it doesn't count.]

Another important thing here is the whole thing about Sonic being a "free spirit", and here's where someone else (in another, different Discord server) said something like this:

This just circles back to being "free". When Sonic writers focus on characters being of royalty, it's usually shown that having to run things in an entire nation, being responsible for the well-being of everyone there, realistically is a difficult thing to handle, especially for someone who's a late teenager or a young adult at most (Blaze, Elise), even without all the magical/mystical baggage that comes with having to guard/protect a source of near-godly power (a parallel universe set of seven Chaos Emeralds, a dormant half of a God of Time) on top of being expected to rule an entire country and care for its people. Sonic is a "lost factor" that characters like Blaze, Elise and Sally need in order to feel a bit of happiness and relief because he's "just there", but he still fights for everyone he cares for when he needs to.

This could also be applied to Merlina, and even the genie Shahra in Sonic & the Secret Rings (shout-out to @silvermun for accurately pointing out the similarity between Elise, Shahra and Merlina regarding their motifs in their respective stories).

(Art Post) Tania the hedgehog "Redesign"

Want to draw something Sonic related and try redesigning characters' designs. Decide on drawing an obscure Sonic character from the 1992 Sonic Manga published only in Japan.It's inspired by Sonic Out of the Blue Tania design, and I ended up with a different pose for her instead of being one to one pose of the reference image. Tania, or her other name, Anita, which depends on who's working on the comics, is one of the supporting characters in the manga serving as the little sister of Nikki/Nicky and his alter ego Sonic the Hedgehog (Yes Sonic in the manga is more of a superhero and he doesn't know that Nikki and him are the same person). She's portrayed as the opposite of her brother Nikki being more braver and is willing to take action. If you haven't heard of her, it's likely that you might know Sonia from Sonic Underground as Sonic sister than Tania. It's unknown if she ever appears in the Sonic games, considering Sega mandates and finding a good story and game that will fit her in, but considering how Amy Rose and Charmy Bee did come from the manga and become part of Sonic cast who's to say that Tania can join in as well.
