I tell you hwat, working in a fat-centric and body-positive space really throws your perceptions of straight-size people and how most the world view fatness.

I'm costuming a show, and we had some fittings tonight, and some of the things pulled were too small or snug, as happens and is to be expected with fittings.

Our largest cast member is only a size 14 or so, and she was self-conscious of her midsection being visible in this jumpsuit we had her try on. She gestured to it and said semi-jokingly, "Do you see all of this???" And genuinely, I did not. It was snug, yes, but being used to seeing ssbbw-level belly bulge flaunted with gusto, it genuinely confused me that she thought it was notable at all, let alone something to be concerned about.

And then another girl (who's like a size 8) didn't fit into this one pair of jeans I'd pulled and was lamenting on how she'd gained like 10 pounds, and my initial thought (left unspoken) was "that's it? that's literally nothing."

Being part of this community and inundated with fat bodies on my feed, I genuinely forget sometimes that most people view fatness and weight gain in a negative light and are in fact self-conscious of their pudge. And it made me kinda sad hearing those girls talk about themselves that way when 1) they weren't even fat, and 2) what they were self-conscious about wasn't even that big a deal.

I'm not trying to disparage them or make fun of them (and certainly not fetishize them, don't do that). I guess it's just another reminder that we as a society have a long way to go in the realm of body acceptance, and I hope that as I progress as a costumer, I can do my part in lessening fashion fatphobia, if only a little

Literally all it takes to be trans is to feel like you'd be happier as a different gender than you were assigned. If the idea of being nonbinary or trans in a different way appeals to you then give it a shot, try some different pronouns and see what makes you happy. If you realize it doesn't fit you then that's also fine, just let yourself be who you want to be y'know

I appreciate this :) I don’t imagine I would go far enough to ever call myself trans, it’s more how I enjoy more feminine aspects, it’s why I have long hair, wear rings, bracelets, etc. Hell even with that family was accusing me of being into drag in a derogatory way once like, I just like taking care of myself and looking nice?? Pair that with some of the other things they’ve said. That was one of the biggest shell shock moments for me years ago to understand how absolutely disgusting some people can be to trans and lgbtqa+ folk, and I always do my best to help and understand more, even if I am a dumbus sometimes. It also took me like a year to fully realize I was Aro, which considering how I always used to close my eyes or get grossed out by kissing in movies I really should’ve realized sooner oops. Anyway I’m ranting again, I might embrace some kind of he/they situation in the future but end of the day it doesn’t matter too much to me, it’ll just take some time, for now he/him works fine!

I can appreciate that scientists love puns and dad jokes because I love puns and dad jokes. However, there are only so many puns and dad jokes you can make about a subject, and after a certain point it just sounds like the seagulls from Nemo repeating the same shit over one another. For example, I was looking at review articles for my microbial influence on human health class, and I can across not one, not two, but five separate articles beginning with "a gut feeling" that talked about the gut microbiome. Like... I love you random microbiologist and I appreciate your eagerness, but please come up with something else. Anything else.
