Fandom Gripe #23: I know that fandom is in some deep denial about its treatment of female characters that are canonically involved with fan favorite m/m ships, but do y’all realize that when you disappear female characters from the narrative wholesale to push the idea that your canonically straight fav was “secretly gay all along!” you’re making several bad implications? That 1) bi men don’t exist, 2) bi men do exist, but those who have genuinely loved a woman before cannot genuinely love a man after that (therefore bi men don’t exist in practice), 3) women cannot inspire genuine love and devotion in men, therefore any relationship with a woman is “lesser” than the one they later have a man (see previous parenthesis), or 4) to acknowledge the existence of a lovable woman who isn’t a terrible person, where if a relationship previously existed, it did not end because of “incompatibility,” is enough to destabilize the present relationship between two queer men?
Because why is the tgcf fandom allergic to acknowledging that He Xuan had a whole ass fiancée that he loved? Why does no one ever seem to remember that the kidnappings and murders of He Xuan’s sister and fiancée were the final straws that sent him on his rampage, and he still keeps a shrine to them in the present-day of the story? Why is her entire existence and significance to He Xuan as a man, character, and to his character arc disappeared in favor of pushing Shi Qingxuan—the brother of the man responsible for his fiancée’s death—into that same role, as if to say that her impact on He Xuan is significant... just not when it's from her? Why does He Xuan’s life in fandom essentially begin not just after her death but because of it?

.. opinions on wind runner? i feel like im one of the only ones that genuinely hates her sometimes
If you feel like the only one who genuinely hates her, I think you need to look around more. Wind Runner is a very widely disliked character, because she's often used within the story as a small antagonist who "threatens" the authority of Tall Shadow. Gray Wing dislikes her. Thunder is openly cat-racist to her. She spends several books trying to break through the moor cats' xenophobia to join a group that came to HER LAND.
Then, when Moth Flight is old enough to be a relevant character in Forest Divided, Wind Runner is turned into Yet Another mean mom the very moment Moth displays ADHD. She's contrasted to her mate Gorse Fur, who is a Soft And Good Dad, and ultimately MASSIVELY punished with the harrowing events of Moth Flight's Vision (even though, for most of that book, she's completely right.)
Ask yourself why they're especially harsh on WIND RUNNER for being mean to her child, in the arc with Tom the Fucking Wifebeater and his redemption death, plus Thunder being forced to stop being mad at his abuser Clear Sky, please.
To me, Wind Runner is an intense, ambitious woman who's demonized for it in a way that men just aren't. She's subject to several misogynistic trends within WC, plus a huge helping of xenophobia that goes absolutely unexamined. If DOTC cared at all about women, it would have treated her with the nuance she deserves.
Wind Runner is treated with nearly endless suspicion by Gray Wing through books 1 - 3, while he's bending over backwards to suck Clear Sky's toes.
Her wanting to join the group that came TO HER HOME and being a bit pushy about it earns a stronger reaction from Gray Wing than Clear Sky murdering people.
She's pressured into changing her name "to fit in," and it's still not enough. She wanted to join the group so bad she changed her name, at the request of the Mountain Cats, for a chance of being better accepted
This came after she'd already saved Jagged Peak's life when a burrow collapsed on him. She's plenty trustworthy.
She keeps doing shit to try and prove herself to this group of assholes. Remember Bumble being dragged back to her domestic abuser? Gray Wing interprets this as a power struggle, when WIND RUNNER WAS NOT EVEN PART OF THE GROUP AT THE TIME.
From Wind Runner's POV, she did something that the Moor cats wanted done. It was fucking evil. It was committing violence against another member of the out-group the cats see her as.
But who actually has the power here? Tall Shadow does.
Gray Wing said it himself that she could have come up with some excuse for Bumble to stay, and she didn't. In fact, any cat could have spoken up. No one did.
and still. STILL. Wind Runner gets nothing. Her reward is Gray Wing surmising that actually, her doing their sick dirtywork was a political move.
It's more consistent as a motivation with how Wind Runner wants to join their group. The thing she's been doing.
She only actually gets to join the group after Thunder starts publicly hurling slurs at her for suggesting they need to be ready for Clear Sky to attack them. "What do you know about peace? Last time I was here you were NOTHING BUT A ROGUE WITH A ROGUE'S NAME"
Gray Wing even starts purring when she gives birth, because her ambition goes away briefly and she "stops bossing everyone around." this is treated like a sweet thing. god forbid women retain their personalities when they have kids
She loses her first premature child to a seizure and Gray Wing starts proselytizing his religion to her. "Maybe it's a good thing your weakest child died because Jesus has them now" I want to beat him with a hammer
When her second child gets sick, Clear Sky has a bright idea that involves killing it. I refer to this as his "reverse leper colony" suggestion. He only develops a sense of humanity towards the sick when his brother's pregnant wife is in danger. Wind Runner and her kitten barely seem to clock as people to him.
It's only after her SECOND baby succumbs to a horrible, painful death that she decides the moor cats are assholes, and she goes to start her own group. It's LONG overdue. I was extremely excited to see it.
Now. Listen.
I've been treated just like Moth Flight before. I've practically heard the scolding in Book 6 Chapter 3 verbatim. I'm not downplaying anything about Wind Runner being harsh to her; being yelled at like that never fixed the problem.
What I'm saying is that this is the SAME arc that summons the hollowed-out ghost of Storm to coo that Clear Sky "never drove anyone away" with his abusive behavior and gives Tom the Wifebeater a heroic redemption death.
So why is the scolding from Wind Runner treated as unambiguously harsh? What's the difference between her and them?
Why is it that outside of this little bubble of the community, you can get buried in a flood of people crying about how "Clear Sky made Summisteaks Butt he thought it was the right thing :((( He feels bad about shoving Thunder's face in a weeping, pus-filled wound and trying to kill him :((((" but Wind Runner is mean about Moth Flight not catching a rabbit and she should be skinned alive
Why is WIND RUNNER held responsible for the death of Clear Sky's child in Moth Flight's Vision, WHEN IT WAS COMPLETELY HIS OWN FAULT??
So, why should I hate her? Because she's mean to the idiot protagonists? Because she's Yet Another Bad Mom whose actions ARE treated as Bad in the story, in the arc famous for openly weeping whenever someone's mad at their abusive dad?? When she has this whole horrific, unexamined story about how incredibly bigoted The Settlers are towards her and the extremes she goes to in order to please them?
I'm glad she's mean, actually. She should have been even meaner. I think she should have a gun

My beautiful beautiful covey I'm back 💙
I'm so happy that u reunited with your laptop how know how shitty it feels not to have it by your side
So, no pressure at all. I'd love a little romantic love letter with percy
Love you girly 💙
𝜗𝜚 ‧₊˚ ⊹ LOVE LETTER W/ PERCY JACKSON
"popcorn's done!" percy called from the couch, which he just flopped into. he didn't need to, as the incessant beeping from the microwave made it clear that the popcorn was done. you rolled your eyes as him, smacking a pillow against his chest as you moved toward the kitchen.
"you should grab it yourself, lazy bum!" you called back over his whines about the pillow, sharing a disapproving look with sally, who was finishing up a platter of candy.
"but i just sat down!" whined back percy, which earned him another pillow to the face. he huffed at this one, shoving it off with a glare at the thrower, which was his mother this time. you and sally shared a laugh before settling into the couch as well. percy slung his arm over you without thinking and you cuddled into his side with even less thought. sally pretended not to look as the chick flick started to play, but her wholesome smile gave her away. she was just too overwhelmed with the fact that percy found the love she always wanted for him that she couldn't keep her emotions under wraps. especially not with the way percy looked down at you or with the way you looked up at him. she could only describe it as pure, unfiltered love.

God dang it, as much as I love your art, the "celestial twins" was very misleading about their relationship, i really thought they were twins, could have said it earlier yknow
I am realy sorry about that, yea. I just kinda forgot that i didnt mention that in the beginning and then for some time i operated on the assumption that everyone knew, because i knew. Realised it a bit ago but at that time i didnt have the energy for a post that i knew might make people annoyed or mad at me.
Sorry if this is upsetting to anyone that really wasnt my intention. I just really need to actually write down what parts of the lore i have actually mentioned and which ones i didnt because this was kinda planned from the start i just forgot to actually mention it. For some time i would have literally sworn that i put it in the first ever lore post
You can generally assume that they are never actually brothers in my (robot centric) AUs because i dont think robots would have the same concept of family as humans? Like, an amount of kinship is obvious but especally in the rlgl au robots of the same production line are more like a comunity than a family if it makes sense.
Again i am really sorry if this made anyone uncomfortable!

Shinsou needs you to look at him so bad but also can't keep eye contact with you at all
Whore. Vying for your attention like a child only not being able to handle it cuz he's really just a baby deep down.
And you already know he can give the most dangerous pair of bedroom eyes if he really wants to, just has never liked someone as much as he likes you to actually want to use them seriously.
I feel like it's funny because, before you start dating, you think the reason he can't look you in the eye is just because he's aloof and doesn't care, but after you start, it's frustrating because it's so intimate and lovely and he still can't bring himself to do it! Despite always needing to be in your vicinity or up in your business, turning away the second you acknowledge him.
Getting-all-flustered-ass when you pay attention to him like he's not staring/glaring down everyone else... Yes, I would be kinda Pissed.
(It's really just because he's shy. Being all sexy and intimidating to keep people from thinking they can get all close to him.
The first time you go to the club together as a couple, you catch him giving sexy eyes to a guy chatting him up, and the second you walk over to confront him about it, he's melting under your gaze and ignoring the other person altogether... embarrassed and squirmy at the thought of you being mad at him but needing you to know it's just because he loves you so.
He just can't help it!!! And now the stranger is mad that you got him so easily... bamboozled.)

My beloved man… I made a Golurk OC and he’s been my everything lately 🧡
Standing at 11 ft, just over the average height, Hercules didn’t get much of a chance to really relish his newfound size and strength with any amount of pride like he should have. His whole just is that when he was but a small, child sized Golett, he wandered off and found himself in a small cave. But inside, some pretty hectic no-good Pokémon found his arrival interruptive, instead opting to wanting to teach him a lesson of knocking first. But boy, for a small Golett, he really showed them not to be so rude to guests even if unwarranted. Hercules overpowered the group with impressive strength for a small Pokémon, and it drove them away. Before he had a chance to recollect himself out of the scare and leave the cave, his body began to glow, the exertion of power triggering evolution. His body started to morph into what would be his massive sized-Golurk form, but alas, such cave space was no bigger than he was, and the confined space couldn’t hold his sheer size.
As he evolved, the ceiling and walls began to crumble on him, and in panic of the realization, he thrashed about, trying to stop from the crash. Alas, he clattered to the ground as the rubble covered him in, it too heavy and him too tired to escape… the tunnel to the cave entrance too narrow anyway.
In his painful endeavor in hopes of one day escaping, he beats at the ceiling of the tunnel with his single right arm exposed with his head. It makes the ground slightly rumble and quake… but no one usually suspects a Pokémon within the ground like that could be the cause. At least, not a massive Pokémon of his size. How would it even get down there?
Parts of his left side mostly and his legs have deep red markings around, which are technically scarring. Due to leaking water in the caves that eroded parts of his body, it didn’t want to give up that easily, and instead healed with bright jasper-like scarring. Not many see this, though, for he’s still ever waiting for the chance to find release, longing for the sun once again…
I don’t have a super specific use for him other that RP at the moment, but god I love this guy so much :)
Here’s the flat color version of the ref to make life a little easier :)
