because i’m obsessed and i think i’ve noticed something that i don’t think i’ve seen anyone talk about yet

my own theory about the nltl crystals

@leo-kinnie

i think that the odyssey shard is some form of collection of the other shards powers

EVIDENCE:

the odyssey shard’s particle effects resemble those of the other shards.

First look at the most obvious, Donnie and Raph.

Raph’s effects are messy with holes and broken off bits and the odyssey shard has much of the same (shown below)

meanwhile donnie’s effects are more blocky and geometric, something that can also be seen in the lines of the odyssey shards effects. The curves are made up of straight lines and the holes and broken bits are also made of straight lines causing the shapes themselves to be more blocky than in raph’s. Leo’s effects are spikey and swirly. it curves in on itself a bit with sharp bits poking out. If we go with the idea that the odyssey shards power is a combination of the other shards then leo’s shard makes up the general shape.

Mikey is a bit harder to do because there is less resemblance and there is not a lot of references to look at but the blobby form of the odyssey shard could be attributed to mikey.

Next up is colors. The Odyssey shard is depicted using various different colors and changes the color of donnie marks. however these colors are not random

For one the colors that donnie’s marks change to are consistent, i don’t yet know if the specific markings themselves have any meaning, but the colors are: purple, red, blue, and yellow. AKA, the colors of the turtles.

last is the crystals themselves

while the odyssey shard and donnie’s shard may look the same at first and initially i assumed that donnie’s was a host for the odyssey shard but there are some differences. One is that the odyssey shard’s edges have deeper curves. the top and bottom points are skinnier on the odyssey shard than on donnie’s. the center face is smaller on the odyssey shard then on donnie’s. this also can’t be attributed to differences in redraws because of how consistent the odyssey shard’s drawings are with their lines and how different it is from donnie. another thing is how the odyssey shard and donnie’s shard have been specially described as different SHARDS not just as different.

something else here that interests me is how @/DRangerrr says that the odyssey might have been made to look like donnie’s shard because that would explain a lot of things such as it’s primary color being purple and its strong resemblance to donnie’s shard. what if it was made specifically to trick someone (maybe draxum or donnie) into thinking it was donnie’s shard why else would draxum give this random super powered rock to a toddler if he didn’t think it was made specifically for him.

anyways i know there is still some stuff unexplained but i think this stuff is very interesting and i wanted to contribute to the theories on this au.

I will admit, sometimes I take vibes from things that other people have written. I was reading "Nothing Left To Lose" by Halfwayzone on AO3. It's a seperated fic where Donnie and Raph were raised by Draxum, but left to live with Splinter when they were kids.

And I just... i adore how they write the relationship with Draxum and Donnie! There's such a solid repore of plausible deniability, and what feels like genuine parental love.

It's the kind of relationship I want my turtles to have with Draxum in Lily Pads.

I want them to be able to look at him and go "ah yes, a dad" while also maintaining him being a grey zone of morality.

I want him to take pride in Raph's kindness, even in spite to how he was first raised.

I want him to look at Donnie and ask questions about his work, just so he can make sure Donnie knows how brilliant it is.

I want him to look at Leo and praise his strategic mind, while also humbling him with the things Leo can't see coming.

I want him to look at Mikey and not only praise his fighting style, but the art that Mikey does. I want him to praise the painting AND praise the dancing behind the combat.

I want Draxum to be good. I want him to be a support. And i want him to fuck up. He isn't going to have a clean break away from cannon. I said he goes to therapy, and he does, but even therapy can't fully erase years of prejudice. Draxum isn't going to like April. He isn't going to like helping humans or even be involded in helping them, but when it comes to it, he isn't going to join the Foot. Not because they're bad, and not because he's a good guy, but due to the fact that, when it gets to the point where he could help them, he already knows they've hurt Mikey. And while he doesn't care about humans, he does care about that sunshine turtle... also the Foot stole from him 😋

And honestly, my goal is for something a touch similar with Big Mama, but that's another rant.

I'm curious, what did you imagine about the series when you listened to NLTL that turned out to be completely wrong? xD

Bahaha alright curious anon, this is gonna be a ride! So, for those who don't know, I discovered TTS pretty late when it was trending on tumblr after Cassandra's Revenge! The first thing I ever saw was Nothing Left To Lose and uh... Let's say that I made some assumptions about the show that were wrong fhsjsk

Listen, when I was younger and even now, my favourite hobby was listening to openings and trying to piece together a story from the song and the images. I mostly ended up with crazy things but anyway:

- I thought Cassandra and Varian were related because of the blue hair blue eyes/weird blue streak blue eyes combo. Like, maybe not brother and sister, but at least cousins or something! They... were not.

- I thought Cassandra and Varian used to be partner in their villainy, but somehow they got separated and Varian changed camp, which Cassandra felt betrayed about (which is why she throws it back at his face with the "you lost your nerve" part)

- I thought that Cassandra was the villain for the whole series (like the fun recurring bad guy in cartoons - that's because of the "my rivals will fall" line idk it made me think she had a lot of them). But, she had been a casual villain until Rapunzel did something to her that made her go even further beyond, distancing herself from Varian (see theory number 2) - and that's why she seems to self-doubt at the end, because she was on the way to redemption before going to an even darker path

- I had a lot of theories about the destiny that was stolen from her, and none of them involved Gothel lol I thought that maybe, she had lost her family and was thrown into the "villain" path very young (with varian) and only recently discovered that it was because of Rapunzel / the King of Corona. I had thought of a story that would parallel Eugene's a bit, however she wouldn't have had the chance to meet her Rapunzel and so she had no other choice than to take this path, and discovering that her life could have been better if the royal family hadn't been here would have made her snap even more

(Also with my related Varian theory she would feel bad on his behalf and couldn't understand why he forgave them)

(Also also, isn't that kinda Lady Caine's story? Anyway)

- Ah, and last thing, as a foreign speaker, I didn't know what "IOUs" actually meant? So when Varian said "drop the IOUs" I thought he was talking about something that gave her her powers (which, I know now, is the moonstone). I was also thinking that, since he used a plural, there had been multiple pieces that they had to collect thorough the series when they were only casual villains, and I wanted to see that adventure 😂 (I really had never heard that word before the song)

So really I was expecting fun villain duo Varian and Cassandra in s1 and/or 2, family feels between them and then a separation because of Rapunzel convincing Varian that this wasn't the way (also the """IOUs""" could be dangerous to Cass/ be killing her and he would want to save her from herself fgsjsk)

I also imagined that they had to collaborate with Rapunzel when they were only the fun villain duo and Rapunzel would start to consider Cassandra as a friend and would fight to make things right and get her back (enemies to friends to BIGGER ENEMIES to friends again it makes sense okay)

Idk this is weird but I am good at extrapolating 😂 It could make a fun AU though because Varian and Cass as a villain duo has untapped potential

Brain: heyyyy

Me: *freezes* No

Brain: oh yes

Me: go away

Brain: wouldn’t it be lovely if this were the inspiration for (insert random fic sequel)

Me: no, no. I’m not rewriting the entire second arc of (insert title) just so I can picture this song it it! N. O.

Brain, already playing the scene out before me: yeah, uh huh, sure.

Me:

Me: *leaps into the pit all for the sake of watching this imaginary music video my brain has conjured*

(Screw you, brain.)

And finally, the crisis I’ve been going through for several months now (and absolutely nothing has changed):

“I don’t want to kill you. I probably should, but I don’t want to.”

....

“Yeah, it would work better with the story.”

....

“Yes, it would cause angst”

....

“But I don’t have the guts!!!! I mean, I’ve killed (name) before, but I’ve never killed you! I can’t do that to (name)! I mean, I did it to you, but it was temporary. Both times. I- I can’t go that far, can I? And killing you would deprive the sequel of some serious angst when you find out about book one! But it fits the story better to do it! Not to mention that whole symbolic scene I had planned.....”

10. what frustrates you the most as a writer

well before i hit refresh and LOST EVERYTHING ID TYPED FOR THIS ASK it was stuff like characters being funnier than you. and not knowing how to end things. and forgetting what happens in canon

BUT NOW IT’S HOW MUCH I HATE IT WHEN YOU REFRESH AND LOSE EVERYTHING BECAUSE YOURE BIG STUPID AND TYPE DIRECTLY INTO TUMBLR LIKE A LOSER. IVE LOST ENTIRE FICS THAT WAY. AND I JUST LOST ALL THE STUFF FOR THIS KJBGMKSJBGUHEWGYLOUY >:CCCCC

anyways WILD LAUGHTER BOY DO I HAVE PLENTY OF THOSE. this is an open invitation to come poke me about any of these. bullet pointed because why not

missing scenes from 3.1 before they free quirin (varian and raps just. talking i guess?) and then varian adn quirin talking afterwards. mostly ditched this because important conversations are hard. ew talking

one in nltl where cass actually does get varian with the sword. i LOVE this idea im gonna write it i swear i will - i made an attempt very early on and it stalled and i didnt like it but im more confident in the fandom now. so . expect this sometime? in the future? it’s just shameless hurting and comforting. thats it thats the fic

that one really long idea where varian and eugene go on the run - it was a lot of fun to talk about with u but idk about writing it ,,, long ideas scare me pfft

oh YEAH that idea i had about varian in jail and arianna visiting him. that was before i watched s2 or s3 so pretty sure that would be AU. there was sickfic in there somewhere. it was glorious. f for that idea

varian and eugene talking about fears? or something? in 3.9. dont remember what i wanted to do with this one frankly

eugene in 3.1 right before he frees raps and varian from the cell. this one wouldve been basically just his thoughts about like. varian’s redemption

ruddiger but more flavoured like if he were an emotional support animal. wouldve been short scenes tied together. probably going to write this? at some point? get back with me later id need to do a little research

5 times raps carried varian and 1 he carries her. mix of funny/fluffy and super whumpy probably. idk i havent thought more about it than literally that sentence

not much i can talk about s&m planning here but i WILL say im going to write a sickfic for it set in a downtime much later on in the story. it’s going to be amazing and i cant wait to sit down and actually write it. is it really an AU with me if there’s not a sickfic in it at some point. the answer is no. no it isnt

if i knew how to write long multichapter fics i would do the prison barge varian idea i had in a HEARTBEAT. id move that episode earlier in the season and give him redemption and we’d get both varian in s2 AND all the fun redemption based stuff later like nltl. galaxy brain. if only, huh

varian wrangling deaged raps/eugene/cass/lance if only because it would be hilarious. and probably really cute

he succeeds in actually wiping everyones memories. probably 2-3 chapters. angst for a bit at the beginning then just. h/c probably. too bad i dont like multichapters - basically most of my inhibitions are 1) im scared of it so i dont write it 2) lazy

also considering writing short selfcontained scenes from some of the AUs ive spitballed. the modern ghost one. icarus. mermaid. newsies. whatever else we talked about bro i . it’s all hazy KJFHKJ. considered drawing for these too. idk man i just *holds them* love them

and then of course always thinking about those fics that have no actual plot and are just an excuse to shove all my favorite whump tropes into a thing. those are . my bread and butter. kicks that around i guess. watch me ignore all my actual ideas for more of this kind of h/c stuff LOL

21. favorite writing advice to share

PROBABLY write whatever you want. write like no one’s watching. if you catch yourself worrying about a detail ask yourself if its actually worth worrying about, laugh at urself, cast it aside like the lameo thing it is, and move on. chances are its not worth it LOL. chances are nobody will notice anyways. life is too short for that B)
