Glad You Exist
| For: @askmarinaandothers |
| Song: Glad You Exist by Dan + Shay |
Tumblr media
Nick Goose Bradshaw will never stop being head over heels over his Irish beauty. He’s even more glad that Scarlet continues to put up with his shenanigans. He constantly calls her just to tell her hi or that he missed her. For their engagement party, Goose was late because he stopped to get her a dachshund just because. Out of the billions of people in the world, Goose would always pick her. “I never want to share secrets with anyone else unless it’s with you. I… I’m just so glad you exist and that you’re mine,” he says as part of his vows on their wedding day.

bradley “rooster” bradshaw x fem!reader
tw: cursing, absent parents, kissing
Tumblr media
bradley was hanging out in his room with all of his groomsmen getting ready for his wedding that was happening in almost 2 hours when phoenix came barreling through the door looking very worried.
“rooster!” she frantically yelled out.
“phoenix, calm down and tell me what happened?” bradley asked in a calm voice to try to calm his fellow aviator down.
“it’s y/n! she is having a panic attack and nobody knows how to calm her down except you. we really need your help.” she said.
bradley wasted no time jumping out of his seat and bolting out the door and down the stairs to the bridesmaid’s room. when he got there, he didn’t waste any time getting through the door and spotting his bride-to-be. she was sobbing, shaking and having a hard time breathing steadily. as soon as he spotted her, he ran over to where she was seated and held her.
“hey darling. it’s okay. i’m here now.” he said in a relaxed voice. “try to match my breathing, can you do that for me, hon?”
y/n nodded her head and started to breath more steadily.
“that’s right. in, out, in, out. just like that.” he told the woman that was now breathing normally. “now, mind telling me what has got you all riled up before the big day?” he asked, poking her stomach, making her laugh.
“i feel really bad that i didn’t invite my family. even though they weren’t there for me back then, doesn’t mean that they wouldn’t want to be here now.” she said in between a sob.
“you can let it go, you can throw a party full of everyone you know and not invite your family ‘cause they never showed you love. you don’t have to be sorry for leaving and growing up.” bradley told y/n.
“i know. i know. i just feel like a real dick because i didn’t invite them.” y/n said with a frown.
“darling, you talk of the pain like it’s all alright, but i know that you feel like a piece of you is dead inside. you showed me a power that is strong enough to bring sun to the darkest days. it’s none of my business but it’s just been on my mind.” he said. she was now looking up at him and he wiped the tears away from her puffy cheeks.
“you can let it go, you can throw a party full of everyone you know and not invite your family ‘cause they never showed your love. you don’t have to be sorry for leaving and growing up. you can see the world, following the seasons anywhere you go, you don’t need a reason ‘cause they never showed you love and you don’t have to be sorry for doing on your own.” bradley told her.
“you know that i love you and we are getting married! you are the best part of all my days. and please, don’t forget that. i love you so much!” bradley told her then kissed her on the lips.
“thank you bradley. you always know how to make me feel better and i’m so blessed to have you here with me. i love you too.” y/n said to her fiancé, best friend, and groom-to-be.

"This is what I call a target-rich environment." Maverick smiles as they walk through the bar, their white naval uniforms on.
"You live your life between your legs, Mav." Goose replies to him.
"Goose, even you could get laid in a place like this." Mav smiles patting his back
"I'm telling you, I'd be happy to find a girl who'd talk dirty to me." Goose replies walking up to the bar counter. He looks up and spots a pilot from earlier. "Mav, you want to know who the best is? That's him. Iceman. That's the way he flies, ice-cold, no mistakes. Just wears you down. You get bored, frustrated, do something stupid, and he's got you." Goose points out taking a swig of his beer before turning around. "Hey, hey, Slider. Thought you wanted to be a pilot, man. What happened?" Goose asks, playing with Slider's badges.
"Goose, you're such a dickhead. Whose butt did you kiss to get in here?" Slider questions.
"Well, the list is long but distinguished." Goose jokes.
"Yeah, well, so is my johnson." Slider returns, downing a shot.
"So you're flying with Iceman?" Goose asks.
"It's Mr Iceman to you." Slider bounces back.
"Hey, Mother Goose. How's it going?" Iceman says, shaking hands with Goose.
"Good, Tom." Goose shakes before introducing Maverick. "This is Pete Mitchell. Tom Kazansky."
"Congratulations on Top Gun." Iceman replies, turning to Pete.
"Thank you." Peter shakes his hand.
"Sorry to hear about Cougar. He and I were like brothers in flight school. He was a good man." Tom tells him.
"Still is a good man." Pete says.
"Yeah, that's what I meant." Tom replies.
"Thought so."
"Say, you need any help?" Tom asks Pete.
"With what?" Pete asks.
"You figured it out yet?" Tom questions, a smile on his face.
"What's that?"
"Who's the best pilot?" Tom smiles.
"No, I think I can figure that one out on my own." Peter returns.
"I heard that about you. You like to work alone."
"Mav, you must've soloed under a lucky star? I mean, first the MiG, and then you guys slide into Cougar's spot."
"We didn't slide into Cougar's spot. It was ours, okay?" Goose interjects.
"Yeah, well, some pilots wait their whole career just to see a MiG up close. Guess you guys are lucky and famous?" Slider takes another shot.
"No, you mean notorious. I'll see you later." Tom tells Maverick and Goose before him and Slider walk away.
"You can count on it." Pete replies.
"They were abused children." Goose tells Pete.
"We're gonna have a good time." Pete smiles, clinking bottles with Goose.
"Always." Goose smiles before both take a drink.
"Okay, I guess it's my turn, isn't it?" Maverick says as a couple of girls smile and wave at him and Goose.
"All right, the bet is $20." Goose directs.
"$20." Pete nods.
"Right. You have to have carnal knowledge of a lady this time on the premises." Goose gives Pete.
"On the premises." Pete looks across the bar to see a blonde woman sit down, he smiles in her direction.
"Come on, Mav. A bet's a bet." Goose pushes, spotting who Maverick is looking at.
"I don't know, it just... It just doesn't seem fair. For you, I mean. But..." Pete places his hand on Goose's shoulder. "...she's lost that loving feeling."
"She's lost... No, she hasn't."
"Yes, she has."
"She has not lost that..."
"Goose, she's lost it." Pete walks away picking up a microphone.
"Mav. Come on." Goose follows him. "I hate it when she does that. Shit."
"Excuse me, miss." Pete taps the girl on her shoulder.
"Hey, hey, hey." Goose jumps between them with his aviators on. "Don't worry, I'll take care of this."
"You never close your eyes any more, when I kiss your lips."Pete starts to sing.
"There's no tenderness, like before in your fingertips." Goose sings as the two boys rock back and forth snapping.
"You're trying hard not to show it." Pete sings.
"Baby but, baby Believe me I know it You've lost that loving feeling Whoa, that loving feeling You've lost that loving feeling Now it's gone, gone, gone Whoa, whoa, whoa Ba-doom, ba-doom ba-doom boom boom ba-doom." the whole bar starts singing along.
The girl smiles and nods to the seat next to her. "Sit down." Everyone cheers and claps as Pete takes a seat.
"Ba-doom ba-doom boom boom Ba-doom, ba-doom... Baby, baby get down on my knees for you Ba-doom, ba-doom Ba-doom boom boom."
"I love that song. I've never seen that approach." The girl smiles facing Pete. "How long have you two been doing this act?" She asks.
"Oh, I don't know, since..." Pete tries to come up with an excuse.
"Puberty?" She questions.
"Right, puberty." Pete laughs.
"I'm Charlotte Blackwood." She smiles.
"I'm Maverick." He introduces himself.
"Maverick? Did your mother not like you or something?" She laughs.
"No, it's my callsign."
"You're a pilot." She gasps.
"That's right, a naval aviator." He replies, matter of factly.
"Oh." She nods.
"No, actually, we've only done this, twice." He tells her.
"Oh, how'd you do?"
"Well truthfully, I got my little girl out of the first. Not much else." Pete nods.
"And second?" Charlie asks.
"I don't know. I'll tell you tomorrow. But it's looking good so far."
"Well, uh, Maverick, my friend's just arrived, so it's been great talking to you." She turns to her friend and hands him her things. "Oh, I'll be with you in just a second, okay?" She turns back to Pete. "Listen, can I ask you a personal question?"
"That depends."
"Are you a good pilot?"
"I can hold my own." Pete answers
"Great. Then I won't have to worry about you making your living as a singer." She smiles and walks away from him.
"I'm gonna need a beer to put these flames out. Yo! Great, Mav. Real slick." Pete sighs, taking a drink from his bottle. He notices her get up from the booth and walk to the bathroom and he follows her immediately after she makes eye contact with him.
"It was a long cruise, was it, sailor?" She asks, washing her hands.
"It was too long." He smiles walking up to her.
"What did you wanna do, just drop right down on the tile and go for it?"
"No, I actually had," he tests the durability of the bathroom counter, "had this counter in mind."
"Great, that would be very, very comfortable. Yeah." She says, throwing away the paper towel.
"It could be." He smiles moving closer. "Actually, I came in here to save you from making a big mistake with that older guy."
"Really?" Charlotte asks. "So I could go on to a bigger one with a young guy like yourself?"
"Maybe. No?"
"I've gotta be at work very early in the morning." She turns to walk away.
"Then what are you doing here?" He asks following her.
A few moments later she walks by Goose who sits at the bar with a beer.
"Your friend was magnificent." She tells him, walking by. Pete walks up to stand beside him as Goose looks between his best friend and Charlotte's retreating figure. Maverick holds a smug smirk on his face.
"Nah. Nah."
Tumblr media
"You still awake?" Goose asks, walking into Maverick's place.
"Yeah. What's up?" Maverick asks.
"Can't sleep." Goose says sitting on the arm of one of the chairs. "You know, when I first realised that we were going to Top Gun, all I could think about was getting that trophy." He sighs. "I gotta be straight with you, Mav. Right now, I just hope we graduate. I got a family to think about. I can't afford to blow this." Goose sighs. "Hell, you've got that little girl to think about."
"Yeah, I guess that flyby wasn't such a big hit, huh?" Maverick laughs lightly.
"Look, man, I know it's tough for you. They wouldn't let you in the academy because you're Duke Mitchell's kid and you have to live with that reputation. But it's like every time we go up there, it's like you're flying against a ghost. It makes me nervous." Goose tells him, pausing before he continues. "Ya know, she's turning into you day by day. Carole called me and I could hear her in the background tell Carole that she wants to fly like you. You gotta change the Mitchell reputation, otherwise she's gonna struggle like you are."
"I know," Pete sighs. "Ya know you're the only family I've got, right? I appreciate what y'all have done for us. I'm not gonna let you down. I promise you." Goose laughs before getting up to leave. "Get out of here." Goose leaves and Maverick goes back to thinking about the days events. The hop, breaking the hard deck, Viper's words.
"Lieutenant Mitchell. Top Gun rules of engagement exist for your safety and for that of your team. They are not flexible, nor am I. Either obey them or your history."
He sighs, turning out the lights before going to bed.
Tumblr media
"This music." Pete smiles listening to it in the Sun Room of Charlie’s home.
"An old friend?" Charlie asks, sitting down after turning on the music.
"My folks loved it. I haven't heard this in years. My mother used to call down from her room and have me play this over and over again. I got so sick of it. But not her, she... Just sit up there alone, just listening, hours. Just listening. She died shortly after him." Pete explains from the doorway.
"What happened to your father?" Charlie asks, sitting up from the bench.
"I guess I kind of figured, with your security clearance, you'd know more about him than I do." Pete tells her.
"Well, I didn't get that far."
"Well, it's a big mystery. He disappeared in an F-4, November 5th, 1965. The stink of it was, he screwed up. No way. My old man was a great fighter pilot. But who the hell knows? It's all classified."
"Somebody must know." Charlie says
"Yeah, somebody knows everything." Pete mutters.
"Is that why you're always second best up there?"
"You are direct, aren't you? I'm sorry I was late." Pete apologizes
"I'm sorry for being direct." Charlie apologizes.
"No apologies." Pete mimics her.
"Well how about your daughter?" Charlie questions. "You kind of mentioned her at the bar."
"Oh Delilah? She is awesome, honestly the best 4 year old you will ever meet." Pete laughs.
"Does she live with her mom? Ya know since you're so busy in the air?" Charlie asks.
"No, actually her mom passed away when Delilah was born. She, uh, was a naval aviator too, and was on maternity leave at 8 and a half months pregnant when there was a massive emergency and no other pilots available to go up and help so she jumped on a jet and rushed out to help, completely disregarding the orders being shouted at her." Pete looks down while he talks. "She got hit, both engines out, she ejected and hit her head in the landing. " By the time they found her they had two options, save her or save the baby. Obviously they chose Delilah." Pete laughs slightly, looking down at his shoes.
"What's she like? Delilah, I mean." Charlie asks.
"She's a handful. I don't know a whole lot because of how little I've been around since her first birthday. She stays with Goose's wife and his son during my missions. But, uh, she told Carole that she wanted to be a pilot just like me. And gets into a lot of trouble at daycare cause she doesn't like being told what to do. Her words, literally." Pete laughs.
"Sounds like someone I know." Charlie laughs.
"Yea," Pete laughs. "I honestly can't wait to see her, Carole is flying in with the kids tomorrow."
"Oh that's great." Charlie smiles.
"Yea, I should uh, get going." Pete stands.
"Where are you going?"
"I'm gonna take a shower. Thank you. I enjoyed being here." Pete smiles before grabbing his jacket, climbing on his motorcycle and leaving.
Tumblr media
"I told her how tough it is here." Goose says, talking to Maverick. They sat in one of the booths at the airport. "You know, my ass dragging like an old, tired dog. I told her that you didn't even have a woman here." Goose says.
"Oh, really." Pete laughs picking up his gift for Delilah.
"You know what she said?" Goose starts laughing as he picks up a toy plane and a single rose. "Said, 'Oh, he probably doesn't have one, he's got eight'." The boys laugh as they walk out the doors to the tarmac. Goose takes off running at the sight of Carole and the kids.
"Ahhhhh hi!" Carole screams as Goose places the rose in her hand and wraps her in a large hug.
"Daddy!" Bradley and Delilah shout simultaneously, Goose squats down to give Bradley a kiss on his head before picking him up in a huge hug. Delilah talks off running towards Pete, he smiles and drops down to her level as she reaches him, her arms wrapping around his neck quickly.
"Hey kiddo." Pete has a huge smile on his face and Delilah holds him tightly. "I missed you."
"I missed you too." The 4 year old leans back and looks at the toy in his hand. "Is that for me?" She questions softly.
"Of course it's for you, my future little pilot." He hands her the toy F-14 and plants a kiss on her cheek. Delilah giggles as she plays with her new toy. Carole and Goose walk up to them with Bradley in Goose's arms.
"Uncle Pete!" Bradley shouts, reaching for Pete.
"Bradley!" Pete cheers as Bradley jumps into his other arm.
"So, Maverick," Carole says as they walk out of the airport. Both of the kids are still in Pete's arms while Carole and Goose carry the luggage. "Goose tells me you're in love with one of your instructors."
"Is that right?" Pete asks glaring at Goose before walking off with the kids.
"I... I didn't tell her that." Goose defends himself.
"Yes, you did." Carole replies.
"I can't believe you said that. That was a secret." Goose mutters to her before kissing her again.
Tumblr media
Goose, Carole, Charlie, and Maverick sit in a booth with Delilah and Bradley sat in between Charlie and Carole.
"What should we get?" Bradley whispers behind the menu to Delilah.
"Our usual." Delilah giggles, tucked behind her menu.
"I like your thinking, princess." Bradley calls Delilah by his nickname for her. No one quite knows where the 4 year old boy learned that but they find it adorable how the two are with each other.
"Looks like I won't be chasing any boys away when they are older, Goose. Bradley here will be doing it for me." Pete laughs, his arm slung behind Charlie on the back rest.
"That or you'll be chasing Bradley from Lilah." Goose laughs.
"What can I get y'all?" The waitress asks. All of the adults order before Carole looks at the kids. "Honey what do you want?"
"My girl and me want chicken strips, please." Everyone busts up laughing.
"I'll get right on that." The waitress smiles.
"Oh I'm definitely in trouble." Pete laughs.
"Shall we dance, my lady?" Bradley offers to Delilah.
"We shall." Delilah giggles as her and Bradley crawl under the table and onto the dance floor, dancing together.
"Now where did our son learn that?" Carole laughs.
"Oh honey I think he's watching us a lot closer than we thought. Shall we dance, my lady?" Goose asks his wife, pulling her from her seat and onto the dance floor.
Soon Charlie and Maverick join them laughing and dancing before Pete interrupts Delilah and Bradley's dance to pick up his daughter and dance with her. Goose picks up Bradley and sets him down on top of the piano as the music ends. Suddenly Delilah is up there too before Pete sits down with Charlie and Carole.
"You shake my nerves and you rattle my brain! Too much love drives a man insane." Goose sings, playing the piano. The kids singing along. "You broke my will. Oh, what a thrill! Goodness gracious, great balls of fire!"
"Maverick, would you go fetch him?" Carole asks, jumping in her seat at Goose's singing. "Doesn't he ever embarrass you?"
"Goose? Hell, no." Maverick answers. "Well, there was the time..."
"Admiral's daughter." Carole elbows Mavericks side.
"What?" Pete reacts.
"Come on. He told me all about the time you went ballistic with Penny Benjamin." Carole laughs, causing Charlie to start laughing.
"Did he? Well, that's great." Maverick smiles softly, looking at Charlie.
"He tells me about all of them, Maverick." Carole laughs. "How my little angel, Goose, goes home early for church, and you, you always go home with the hot women."
"All right, thank you, Carole." Pete's cheeks flush as he gets up. "I'm gonna go embarrass myself with Goose for a while."
"Dancing!" Bradley and Delilah cheer from their spots.
"You shake my nerves and you rattle my brain!" Pete joins Goose and the kids, messing with the kids while singing. "Too much love drives a man insane! You broke my will, oh, what a thrill! Goodness gracious, great balls of fire!" Pete shouts with Goose, his head next to Goose's while they make funny faces making the two 4 year olds laugh.
"I would love to be able to warn you off about Maverick, but I just love him to death." Carole laughs. "You know, I've known Pete for a lot of years now, and I'm telling you, one thing's for certain. There are hearts breaking wide open all over the world tonight."
"Why?" Charlie questions.
"Because unless you are a fool, that boy is off the market. He is 100 percent, prime-time in love with you." Carole points to Charlie before turning back to the boys and kids. "Hey, Goose, you big stud!"
"That's me, honey." Goose calls back from the piano.
"Take me to bed or lose me forever." Carole calls back.
"Show me the way home, honey." Goose calls, still playing the piano. "Come on, kids, sing with the family." Goose looks up at the kids as Carole comes up to them and sits in Goose's lap."You shake my nerves and you rattle my brain! Too much love drives a man insane! You broke my will, oh, what a thrill! Goodness gracious, great balls of fire!" Everyone sings as Charlie joins the group.

thinking about how "Uncle Ice" was likely the only stable father figure in Rooster life. Goose is dead, Maverick betrayed him, but Ice...Ice never left. He would be the shoulder Rooster would cry on, Ice supported him from the shadows always. I can just feel it in my bones that Ice was Rooster's true father figure

WONDER OF YOU | B.B. X FEMALE OC
Chapter 1: The Wonder of You
Tumblr media
Summary: Nicolette 'Wildcard' Mitchell was shocked to get called back to North Island. Her track record was not exactly clean and most certainly not one that most would celebrate. Then she sees Bradley 'Rooster' Bradshaw again. Maybe it won't be all bad.
Warnings: Mentions of death, alcohol, Flashbacks to Top Gun 86, Broken Family dynamics
Word Count: 2.6K
Author Note: Hey y'all this fic is my baby and I'm excited to share this with y'all. This is cross-listed on AO3!
previous chapter | masterlist | next chapter
“Wood.. I barely got out of being grounded, just to be sent to Top Gun. It has to be some sort of cruel punishment.” The girl was huffing as she stuffed another shirt into her bag. Nicolette Mitchell a.k.a. Wildcard, lived up to both her callsign and last name in ways that made her commanding officers grimace upon seeing her assigned to them.
“ Or it’s for something important. They don’t just call people back like that for punishment, Nic.” The older male was shaking his head as he responded. He had basically adopted the girl — she had been his favorite kid of the class of 86’s, not that he didn’t like Bradley, but there was a special place in his heart for the brunette girl.
“Yeah, because they send Maverick to new places for important things.” Nicolette was letting a laugh fall as she heard Hollywood hush his husband.
“No, no.. Wolf is right. They sent Maverick to .. well, anywhere he’s been sent simply because he pissed off an Admiral. Not that I did.” There was a snort being heard over the phone and then an ‘ow!’ shortly after,
“Nic.. did you piss off an Admiral?”
“Technically, yes.  But my wingman needed me, it wasn’t my fault they didn’t fill my fuel tank up all the way.” This was a common occurrence for the girl, her wingmen, and team were always first, aircraft and herself second. So be it if it got her in trouble she valued people over the jets they were in. One lesson Maverick had been able to teach her is that your teammates are not replaceable, the jets are no matter what the Navy says.
“So.. you pulled a Maverick?” There were a few seconds of silence before the two males could hear her zipping up the bag.
“No. I was being a good teammate. He doesn’t know what that’s like.” There was some poison in her words, and it was clear as day to the pilot and his RIO that the relationship between the girl and her father had not gotten better.
“I.. okay, Nic. Just.. let us know when you get here, we’d like to see you, kid.” If there was one thing Hollywood knew, it was that whatever waited for the woman on North Island, he would have pieces to pick up.
“I will. Love ya’ll.” Once the couple had responded, she was hanging up and tossed her bag into her Thunderbird.

Nicolette Duke Mitchell had been accustomed to being moved around a lot, at least until she needed a stable place to be able to attend school. Tom ‘Iceman’ Kazansky, the man that was her second father; pops as she called him, was able to stay stationary for her. While Maverick was being sent to Iraq, Bosnia, and wherever else the Navy sent him, Iceman was staying at Top Gun, raising the almost carbon copy of his wingman. Thankfully, some of the rest of the 86 class was able to pitch in. Or they at least kept her busy when they’d visit. And of course, Carole. Seeing as the two had gotten so close over the short amount of time they had together while their dads were in Top Gun, Carole couldn’t possibly keep Bradley away from Nicolette. There were plenty of phone calls, where the two toddlers mirrored each other; being sat on the counter with their respective parents keeping them steady, just chatting away like they had much to talk about. But they could do it for hours and each call ended with a “bye bradbrad.” and “bye ni.” Nic visited Brad and Carole in Tennessee for plenty of weeks in the summer and Brad would visit Nic in San Diego whenever he was able. Until he was in Maverick’s custody and then he was living with her and Ice.
Iceman had done his best to keep the girl in contact with her father. And he pulled strings whenever necessary to get Maverick home to her. But, almost like clockwork, he was pissing off whichever admiral or higher up he could and getting sent away. What originally was described to the girl as ‘the Navy just needs him right now.’ transpired into a festering grudge towards her father – one that faded each time he came home, but grew the second he left again.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
The Hard Deck, something you weren’t supposed to go below. That was Navy law, and anything below the hard deck was dangerous, it could damage the aircraft. This hard deck though? Could damage a person’s wall that they had spent much of their adult life building, or cause cracks in a facade. But it also held a lot of memories from the time spent in Top Gun. Something that was cherished among those that attended, and it was the best bar to go to attempt to score a free drink.
The brunette was shutting the door to her car, a small sigh being given as she witnessed all of the other pilots entering the bar. She knew what that meant; she wasn’t getting grounded. Just a slight possibility of being sent to her death. Which, she figured the Navy wouldn’t bat an eye at, it would achieve their goal, keep the Mitchells out of the sky and run them out of the Navy. Her digits ran through her hair for a second, checking it in her mirror when her eyes fixed on the blue Bronco parked a few spots down. Holy shit. She hadn’t seen the owner of that Bronco since two deployments ago. There was almost a hop in her step as she stepped into the loud building, an easily recognizable song on the jukebox.
If you’re lookin’ for trouble, you came to the right place.
She shook her head, what a song to be playing when she came in. The people at Top Gun had thought she was trouble, and any higher-up that she had would probably agree with that statement. There were three people in the bar that wouldn’t agree with it; one that she hadn’t seen yet; and that was known by the fact she was still in the bar. The second was already smiling as she noticed her, sliding a beer down to her; amazed the girl hadn’t recognized the male a few feet away. And then;
My daddy was a green-eyed mountain jack.
“Mitchell… You’ve got to be shittin’ me.” Hangman. A man Nicolette knew well, but despised just as much.
“Seresin.” There was a beat. Lips parted as she shook her head at him. It was clear that whatever this was, it was serious. Otherwise, there would’ve been no need for the number of patches she was seeing. Nicolette watched the male grab his beers and nod to someone behind her, the person paying for their drinks, she assumed. Then against her better judgment, she followed the blonde back to the group. Her eyes stuck on the Hawaiian shirt that she had entered the bar searching for. But, Hangman beat her to having the first word with him once he had changed the song.
“Bradshaw, as I live and breathe.”
“Hangman… You look… good.”
“Well, I am good, Rooster, I’m very good. In fact, I am too good to be true.” Nic let a quiet scoff out, head shaking. She had taken a seat at a stool behind Brad, not wanting to get in the middle of it. This wasn’t her fight, at least not yet.
“So, anybody know what this special detachment is all about?” Nic’s brows furrowed at the man who spoke. She only knew a select few of the pilots around the pool table.
“No, mission’s a mission. They don’t confront me.” His ego hadn’t changed apparently.
“What I want to know: Who’s gonna be team leader?”  Her eyes followed the pool balls that clattered together.
“And which one of yall has what it takes to follow me?” There it was. His ego was bigger than the state he came from.
“Hangman, the only place you’ll lead anyone is an early grave.” The woman had to take a sip of her beer to keep from chuckling loudly. Eyes meeting those of a male across the pool table, he had glasses and seemed to be the quieter one, seeing as the two on either side of him, one whom she knew; Coyote, who typically couldn’t keep his mouth shut, and the other who let a low “whoo!” out at the comment, obviously were loving this interaction. The one with the glasses was not.
“Well, anyone who follows you is just gonna run out of fuel.” Nicolette was getting close to stepping in,
“But that’s just you, ain’t it Rooster?” Her body inched closer to standing.
“You’re snug on that perch, waiting for just the right moment…” And she was up, body moving quietly to stand behind the male. Hangman’s eyes trailed from the taller male to land on Nic. Almost as if his next words were for both of them,
“That never comes.” There it was. His eyes had locked back on Brad’s after, Nic noted the small smirk that grew on Hangman’s lips. She was going to have to make herself known to Brad now.
“Y’know Hangman, you don’t have to compensate for your lack of… well, size right now.” Head tilting, with a small smirk growing as she watched the blonde falter for a split second before his lips were moving back to his signature smirk.
“If you wanna see how wrong you are, let me know Wildcard.” Winking at her, earning a scoff, as his attention turned back to Rooster,
“I love this song.” And then the pair watched him walk off. Bradley’s eyes finally landed on the girl.
“Ni..” It was like he let his body relax for a second, he didn’t have to be on guard with her. He was safe with her.
“Hey, Bradbrad…” Then arms were wrapped around her, bringing her into his chest, he didn’t know how long to hold onto her but at the moment? Time had stopped anyway so it didn’t matter. And neither could see the way the simple action between them had caused someone else’s world to stop, Maverick hadn’t seen the two of them together in years, and as he took in the Hawaiian shirt on the male’s body and arms wrapping around the female in a brightly colored red and orange shirt, it was like going back thirty years. The sight caused his heart to ache. Then Bradley’s arms were removed as he looked to the other girl who had joined them, but a hand had found its way to rest on Nicolette’s back. Maverick’s eyes burned into the pair, and for Nicolette, the fact her hair was sticking up on the back of her neck had more to do with the group of people in front of her who, while they may know her or know of her, most likely already wouldn’t want her around. Her reputation and last name — something that always held more significance than her — always preceded her.
“Well, he hasn’t changed.” Nic’s brows rose as she looked over the other girl, Natasha “Phoenix” Trace. Of course, she knew her, although there was a small negative feeling festering in her stomach as she took her in. Nicole couldn’t put into words what that feeling was, but it was prominent.
“Nope. Sure hasn’t.” There was a small part of his accent lingering at the end of his statement, which made her lips curl up at the edges.
“Change is a foreign concept to him.” Nicolette let the words fall, almost as if she had to prove her existence. Needed to prove something, what it was? She couldn’t tell anyone. But there was a nod given her way by Phoenix, which caused her to feel settled until more voices joined them.
“Check it out.” The group’s eyes flickered away from the pool table to focus on the entrance, “More patches.”  Nicolette knew what that meant, that whatever was happening wouldn’t be good.
“That’s Harvard, Yale, Ohama. Shit, that’s Fritz.” Wildcard’s green hues followed after the group and her lips pursed for a second as she scoffed, head shaking.
“What the hell kind of mission is this?” Her brow rose at the male, Garcia was what he’d be known by until she knew his callsign, thank the US Military for name badges.
“A suicide mission,” Nicolette mumbled, causing eyes to land on her as she mindlessly played on her phone. The other pilots around them turned to her, eyes narrowing. She didn’t think twice about what she had said, if anything she knew she was right. They don’t call back this many pilots for something any less serious than that.
ICEDAD
ICE.
Nic.
You’ll never guess where I am.
North Island?
This is why I don’t play guessing games with you
But… so is half of the goddamn navy
That’s an exaggeration.
Okay? And? It’s still a lot of people.
And?
Brad is here.
I know.
So you knew i was here?
Got briefed on it.
Someone else is there though.
And the conversation was over once Nic heard the bell ring. Either someone else was paying for their drinks or
“OVERBOARD! OVERBOARD! OVERBOARD!” The girl’s head tilted, phone slipping back into her pocket as she shook her head, eyes locking with Bradley’s at the piano. It was second nature for her to find her way to the instrument. She had spent so many years with the male just hanging out while he played or learned to play.
The toddler was kicking her feet in her father’s lap. Her head tilted to the side as she watched the two blonde women on the other side of her. Nicolette had very little patience in her tiny body and barely sat still - as would be expected from Maverick’s kid. Her fingers wrapped around a fry, that quickly went flying to hit the woman in a white blouse. Giggles were fast to leave tiny lips afterward, Maverick himself having to fight off a laugh. Then once Carole – who Nic adored – had smiled at her, Nic was done and trying to wiggle out of Maverick’s hold. She wanted to go sit with the guy at the piano with the colorful shirt. She liked him a whole lot, he would put her in the sky when he picked her up, and he flew her around sometimes, she loved it. Not to mention the kid on top of the piano who was her newfound best friend. Finally, her dad was heading over there with her, setting her down on the bench to stand, Nic’s hands reaching to try to grab the hat off of the piano – Goose’s hat, but one hand was grabbed by her father to twirl her – as carefully as possible, as the two men sang;
“You shake my nerves, and you rattle my brain…”
Bradley had an arm wrapped around the woman’s waist as his fingers created the familiar tune on the piano; Nic let a soft laugh out as he glanced up at her with a mischievous twinkle in his puppy dog browns,
“Thinkin’ ‘bout your love drives a man insane, you broke my will, oh what a thrill, goodness, gracious, GREAT BALLS OF FIRE!”
The two were a splitting image of something Maverick had never thought he’d see again, and now watching the group of young pilots around the piano and the two on the bench, there was no way he couldn’t teach this mission. They had to come home. If not for him or the families any of them may have had, they had to come home for each other.

drunken monologues ⋆ nick 'goose' bradshaw
pairing: nick bradshaw x fem!oc (haven 'foxglove' soto)
ᅳvolvió a preguntar.
ᅳ¿¡BRADSHAW!?
Estaba borracho y tu amigo me trajo aquí.
ᅳ¡YA, PUES TU AMIGO ME TRAJO A MÍ AQUÍ!
ᅳ¿Cómo?
ᅳ¿Te refieres a ti, no?
ᅳOh, Nick ᅳjadeó.
ᅳ¿Y qué vamos a hacer ahora?
ᅳdijo Nick, divertido.
Cállate y responde a mi pregunta.
Goose no pudo evitar reir. Estaba disfrutando aquel momento.

Ok I can explain…no I can’t! I got bored and I’m obsessed with Top Gun/Top Gun Maverick so here we go
OCs For Top Gun Maverick ✈️
Tumblr media
Amber Nic Kazansky - The Admiral’s Daughter
Tumblr media
One of the top pilots to end up being shipped out to the program. Probably got in because of her last name and family. Let’s be real, her father is an amazing pilot and Admiral, so people know or heard of her background.
Call sign -> Skysolo
If you wonder about her Callsign -> it’s because Amber can stay silently fuming, turning not piercing ice cold but like a heated hit that would keep you solo in the skies without any air to breathe if you push it.
Flirty, sweet, closed off however she’s fun on occasion. She is most likely at the bar to pick up chicks and hotties while also sing her heart out. That results in her meeting Lieutenants Rooster and Phoenix while in flight school.
They became friends easily with Phoenix and she already knew Rooster, just haven’t seen him in the longest time! So besties reunited.
She gets interested and intimidated easily by Hangman. She definitely finding him cocky and annoying at first but soon she like him once she gets to know him. However she won’t tell him that until later, trying to play hard to get with Jake. Lead him on and see if he really likes her. Will they ever actually go on a date? Who knows?!
Her uncle and godfather is none other than Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell. So you can just imagine the fun those two had annoying Ice.
They used to have wayyy too much fun and Maverick used to sneak her into his hanger to learn more about planes. Even fly in one once she got older and made Ice think that he was the one to first take his baby girl flying. Oops he found out later ofc.
Jenny Penelope “JenPen” Mitchell - First Year Lieutenant
Tumblr media
She doesn’t always follow the rules but also knows she might have a legacy to live up to due to her family history. Her father is freaking MAVERICK MITCHELL, you just know this girl is in for the ride.
Wonder how she got her Callsign -> It was a nickname her childhood best friend Rooster came up with her. JenPen! Taking her names Jennifer and Penelope together, it just stuck.
One night she heads to her old man’s favorite bar which is where she meets the gang as she questioned her environment. Her wingwoman Clara told her “You wanna know who’s the best? Look over there.” She turns around to see a charming smile being Rooster as she smirks. “I can definitely see it. Handsome too.” She replies.
Even though she already knows who Rooster is because they are best friends and dated in their early years of college. BUT she won’t let her woman know that, so she plays it off cool. She eventually meets the gang, roughly reunited with Rooster (Hangman thinks they are a couple of crazy kids)
Automatically becoming friends with Bob, Fanboy, Payback, Coyote and Hangman. Phoenix however took a few sips of beer and jokes to lighten her up. Needless to say, he became gal pals with her soon enough. So much so that they have a Girl’s Night every Friday night with her wingman ofc.
After the mission that caused tears to be shared. Everyone stayed to become instructors and or work on their skill set, get higher in the ranks. Once her father came into town permanently, hugs and kisses were shared to between the two!
Maverick has always been proud and loving towards his kid. Always trying to be the best father he can be and show her the ropes. He rubbed off on his daughter a little too much at time.
She can be a lot like her father at times! For examples! JenPen has always run off to have fun with Amber Nic to the bar scene and beach, dragging herself up into the air for a quick fly by, flirty and a little cocky.
Bonus, An OC for OG Top Gun movie 🎥 ✈️
Audrey “Sunset” Davidson - Pretty Mama Bear
Tumblr media
Just like her CALLSIGN, she can be a bright, joyful and happy go lucky as the sun. But she got a bit of bitchy temper and will burn you a bit, if you step too far or on the wrong foot.
Audrey is a pilot, future reference reporter and a dips her hand in an engineering programs for planes later on. Thanks to Maverick’s love for planes and showing her the ropes!
She’s gorgeous, smart and will stop you in your tracks if she sees something isn’t right. Her mama bear side tends to come out A LOT in Top Gun. But all the guys love it and simply find it sweet.
She befriends Goose and Maverick in the early years, going to Top Gun together. Audrey sees them as her boys and they nickname her mama bear as for fun. Her and Mav even dated a while!
She’s is also best friends with Carole and aunt to Baby Goose aka Bradley Bradshaw.
Sooo many nights of partying and singing happily “Great Balls Of Fire” with this family. I’ll tell you that!
At Top Gun, she meets the rest of the gang! Such as Sundown, Chipper, Slider and of course Iceman himself. Who she loves to teases from the very beginning and he doesn’t hesitate to do the same. She nicknames him many kinds of things since day one. Such as, “Pretty Boy”, “Frosted tips” and “Hound dog”
Until one day after Iceman hearing Maverick calling out to her “Hey, Mama wanna hit the bar or beach after class? ” and Goose saying to her loudly “Sweetheart your being a mama bear again.” Iceman came up with his own classic nickname for Audrey , “Pretty Mama.”
They became friends very quickly afterwards lol. After Goose’s tragic accidental death (It wasn’t Maverick’s fault! It was the plane malfunctioning wrong and such) the whole gang grief in their own way. Audrey and Mav spend a lot of more time closer together. But if she wasn’t with him because Maverick was with Charlie, Ice would try to spend time with her, let them hear out their thoughts and pour out any emotions.
You know the rest! Graduation, the mission, celebration and etc. Years later everyone is still friends, best friends ofc. Becoming one big happy family in their own weird way, having Sunday bunches and family dinners if possible.
Hope you like it! 🫶

Soaring Your Way into My Heart
Story Description:
Maverick, Goose, and Blue-Jay are the call signs of Pete Mitchell, Nick Bradshaw, and Jaylin Smith. These are some of the best pilots the Navy has to offer. So good they are being sent to Top Gun! Jaylin (Often referred to as Blue) has a secret... she is in love with her best friend Maverick. Will being at Top Gun bring them closer? Or tear them apart?
Part 2 Part 3 Part 4
Blue-Jay’s P.O.V
I am walking on deck, per my orders to do a regular practice fight with Cougar, Goose, and Maverick. I have been Cougar’s RIO since I started in the Navy and we are like brother and sister. Maverick and Goose have been my best friends since day 1. Anyone is lucky to have Goose in their life, he is an amazing Loyal man.
Then There is Maverick. The best man I have ever known, he is one of the best pilots I have ever watched, his ego is bigger than the Navy ship, but a damn good man. He will never leave anyone of his fellow pilots out to dry. There’s also a very sweet side to him, the only two people who have seen it are Goose and I.
“Hey Blue Jay, you ready to fly?” Cougar asked
“You know it” I said giving me a high five
“Hey Birdie” I rolled my eyes when I heard Maverick’s voice, I turned around and smiled he looked so damn sexy with his aviator glasses on, and of course he was chewing gum it is his preflight ritual.
“Hey asshole” I responded, Goose laughed
“How are you doing?” he asked before giving me a hug
“I’m good, ready to get in the air” I said
“Me too...” he looked up and saw Cougar “I’ll be back I’ve been meaning to catch up with Cougar he promised to show me some new pictures of his kid” and Goose ran off. Maverick got as close as possible, and it took everything not to throw myself at him. I am absolutely in love with this man, and he doesn’t even know
“My name’s not asshole”
“Are you sure?” I asked smirking
“C’mon birdie”
“My Call name may be a type of bird, but my name is definitely not birdie”
“You’re my birdie” he whispered, I was completely frozen I didn’t know what to say
“Maverick…” he chuckled
“I’m sorry Blue-Jay” he said emphasizing my name “But you will always be Birdie to me, that’s the contract you signed when you became my best friend”
“The only contract I remember signing was one to join the Navy” he smirked
“Exactly, and by joining the Navy you became my best friend, it’s the same thing” I rolled my eyes
“You really are irritating you know that?” he smirked, then wrapped his arm around my shoulder and pulled me so we were walking toward our aircrafts.
“Hey Cougar” Maverick yelled when we got over to our aircraft
“Yeah, Maverick?”
“Blue-Jay is my best friend, you protect her up there”
“It’s just a practice flight, there is absolutely nothing to worry about” I said, He kissed the side of my head and whispered
“Be careful” before walking over to Goose
“Wow, when are you finally going to tell him you are head over heels in love with him?” Cougar asked
“Lower your voice” I said
“Blue-Jay…”
“Pilots proceed to your take off positions” we heard over the speakers, and I got in a quick as possible to avoid this conversation
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
We had been up in the air for about 45 minutes, and every time I am absolutely flabbergasted at how beautiful it is up here
“Cougar we should probably head back in about 20 minutes or so, we are starting to get low on fuel” I said
“Shit, Shit Cougar, we have a bandit showing up on radar” we heard Goose yell through the mic, I looked down and sure enough on the radar there was one
“Maverick, I don’t see him do you?” Cougar asked, and suddenly another jet flew by us
“Fuck” I said “Who the hell is that?”
“There’s another one!” Goose yelled, Cougar started speaking to the carrier
“We have two bandits circling us, we don’t know who they are…” the missile locked alarm starting ringing “Shit, he has missile lock on us! Do I have permission to fire?”
“Do not fire unless fired upon”
“Maverick! Please get down here we need your help” I said into the mic
“Don’t worry birdie, we are right above you, we see everything. Bandit 1 is already headed home we scared him off, we’re coming down to assist now, Cougar I need you to break right to give me a good engaging point” Cougar did what he asked, I watched as Maverick performed his Cobra technique that was damn impressive, and if I wasn’t so shaken up from what just happened, I would be yelling show off through the mic A few seconds later Maverick and Goose flew up next to us, and gave a thumbs up
“Thanks Maverick” I said
“Bandit 2 is headed home, we should head back to the carrier, we’re low on fuel” Cougar didn’t respond “We’ll see you back on base” Maverick said before breaking left to head back. Cougar just stayed in the same position flying straight
“Cougar we need to go back” I yelled, I noticed he was shaking horribly “Cougar are you ok?” oh no “We have a problem up here Cougar is freaking out, I’m not sure if he will be able to fly us back to base” I was nervous but I had to do my best to calm him “Cougar, c’mon buddy shake out of it”
“What’s going on up there?” I heard
“I don’t know what to do, I don’t think Cougar can make it back” I said again, these people need to listen.
“Don’t worry Birdie, we’re flying back around” Maverick said
“Maverick, don’t you dare, you are disobeying a direct order. You get your ass back down here and land now!” I heard Stinger yell, I saw them pull up next to us
“Cougar, buddy don’t you worry, just stay on my right, and I’ll lead you back in” Maverick said “It will be a piece of cake” I let out a sigh of relief when Cougar started following Maverick. It was a little bit of a rocky ride but we landed on base and all I could do is let out a deep breath
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
I am sitting in my room, hair wet from the long shower I took, and in my comfortable PJ’s in all reality I should be packing, I got some great news, I found out that I am going to Top Gun, which is where the top 1% of Navy fliers go. Something I’ve always dreamed of… but I feel guilty Cougar turned his wings in tonight.
He said he was done with the Navy, we are partners, I mean I know they will partner me up with someone else when I get there, but it wont be the same. I was broken out of my thoughts when there was a knock at my door. I opened my door and flew into Maverick’s arms. He wrapped his arms around me and kissed the side of my head after a minute I pulled him inside the room, and we walked over and both sat on the edge of the bed
“How are you feeling?”
“Sad, Cougar turned in his wings” he sighed
“Stinger told us, after he chewed our asses for not following a direct order to land, when you needed our help” I placed my hand on his cheek
“Thank you, you have no idea how much it meant to me that you came back for us”
“I’ll never leave you behind” he whispered, I wiped my tears
“I’m going to Top Gun” I said, he smiled brightly
“That’s my girl” he hugged me
“I just hate that I’ll be there alone”
“You won’t Goose and I are going too” I smiled
“Really?”
“Maverick, this is incredible its what we have always dreamed of since we joined the Navy”
“It’s going to be great” he whispered

_________________
The heart monitor starts crashing, Jake and Bob rushing out of the room, Jake to go find a doctor, and Bob to find Maverick and Rooster who left moments ago to get food. Jake stands beside his best friend, willing her to wake up. Bob stands beside her head, looking down at the girl he's come to love, tears threatening to leak from his eyes. Maverick and Rooster are crying at the foot of the bed, begging her to stay alive. They just lost Ice, it's too soon.
"I'm sorry," the ghost of Nicky stands beside Jake, although he can't hear or see her. "Thank you for getting them back safely, I forgive you for everything. You've always been my best friend."
She knows her choice was selfish, that if she stayed, there was so much more to her life. But she's saved her family once now, and the pain she went through at the thought of losing them was something she could never feel again, even if it meant them going through that very pain. Selfish, yes, but she didn’t care. She died saving the ones she loved, which was more important to her than anything. Her life was complete. Plus, she just got her birth parents back, why would she lose them again? Maverick was a great father, and he would've done the same for her, but it was about time she got to know the ones she spent her whole life trying to make proud.
"I love you Bob, take care of them for me," she whispers to the WSO who made her want to break every rule of dating her father ever made. She'll miss looking at him, talking to him, and flying with the shy lieutenant. They never officially became a couple, so it wasn't like she was losing much in that relationship, but she will never know what would've become. He deserves more than her, she will do her best make sure he gets his forever.
"Dad, thank you for everything. I'll always be with you. I couldn't have asked for a better father, I love you," Maverick looks to where she's standing beside him, tears running down his cheeks. He heard her.
"I'll always love you, sweetheart. You were the best thing to ever happen to me," he whispers only for the girl he raised as his own to hear. She feels bad knowing how much this must be hurting him, but he knows she's going to be with her parents and with Ice. That's enough for Pete. He knew she always wanted to know her parents like he did, it brings him peace to know she was happy.
The hardest goodbye is saying goodbye to Bradley. The last Bradshaw, something she caused. Wrapping her arms around her older brother, no longer feeling the comforting warmth, she offers her apology. "I'm so sorry, Bradley, but I'll be with Mom, Dad, and Uncle Ice now. Make us proud and take care of everyone for me. But let them take care of you too, it's okay to reach out for help. I love you so much."
A shiver is sent down Bradley's back as he feels something touch his shoulder, but no one is there. At the same time, the heart monitor attached to his sister flatlines. He knows what he felt was his sister, he knows she's gone. Silent tears stream down his face. The four men in the room come together, watching the girl they loved in their own unique way lose the week-long fight to stay alive. A lover, best friend, daughter, and sister.
"Welcome home, kid," Tom says, hugging his bright-eyed niece as she returns. Her, Nick, and him all in their flight suits.
"Thanks, I'm happy to be here and be with you, Mom, and Dad," she says as her parents join the two of them.
"Why did you choose to stay?" Dad asks as we make our way to the volleyball pit. Him teaming with Mom and me with Ice.
"I saw my future, and it was nice, perfect even, but I didn't want it. My life was fulfilling and perfect the way it was. I knew the risks when I chose to save Dad, Bradley, and Jake, and I accepted them. The only thing missing from my life was my birth parents. Dad told stories, but I want to get to know you myself. Plus, I'll see everyone again, and I can't wait to hear their stories when I do. In the meantime, I finally get to spend time with you and annoy everyone as a ghost," Nicole explains. Everyone here has their own base, with the exception of her family, who made one mega base. Nicole couldn’t wait to explore it all while her mom explained how the afterlife worked.
Her funeral and wake were somber, sadder than Iceman's. Rooster was the one to give her her final wings. There wasn't a dry eye for a couple rows. She had made the ultimate sacrifice in a show of love, it was moving. Against Goose's protests, she watched and comforted her friends. Her presence scared Payback, he's afraid of ghosts, he didn't appreciate the ghost touches and shivers.
Mav kept her flight helmet right beside his, eventually gifting them to Rooster. The pair helped Bob and Jake get out of their depressions, they didn’t have anyone to lean on like Mav and Rooster had each other.
She watched over their lives, helping when missions turned dire. She wasn't ready to add any more volleyball teams. She made sure they had someone to love them and to love back. She listened as Rooster told stories about her, and she listened about how some sailors thought the ship was haunted by her ghost as she tries to complete the mission. When her friends swore she was there protecting their back, she would purposefully mess with them, only conforming it to them. That was the kind of shit she would do alive.
Bob was the first one of the group to join them at 50 years old -Mav passed a few years ago shortly after Penny- and she had been the one to greet him. He died peacefully, a car accident gone wrong. He never married, opting to be a dog dad his whole life.
"Hi Bob," the ghost of his love smiles. She's in her bomber jacket full of patches, a white tee, and jean shorts.
"Nicole," he kisses her, something he wished he had done his whole life.
"I missed you. We have a lot to catch up on," she smiles, leading him through a door and away from the flowers.
Catch up they did. Goose took a bit to warm up to Bob, but Mav and Gatsby had told him so many stories about Bob, it was hard to dislike the kid. Bob was instantly welcomed to flights with everyone, and Carole took him on as a volleyball partner. Bob joined Goose and Gatsby when they went to do their pranking shenanigans on the physical plane. Phoenix and Rooster had never been more scared in their old age.
One by one more bases were established in the afterlife as their friends joined them. However, the Kazansky/Mitchell/Bradshaw base was by far the most popular due to beach volleyball, routine flights, and Penny’s afterlife version of the Hard Deck.

Falling [Rooster X OC] Prologue
TW: Parental Death, Grief, Loss, Canon Typical Themes
Summary: This is ANGST for three whole chapters. Grab your tissues and get ready.
Falling. Maverick yells at me to eject amidst the smoke thickening in the cockpit. I think of them as I reach for the handles. Her laugh, her smile, how she called me "stud" and sang along to the piano every time I played. Then I see my boy, the spitting image of me. He's only two, but he has the brightest personality that I have ever seen. Just a week ago, they came to base to see me off. I can feel the metal of the toy plane in my hands as I struggle to reach the ejection handles. I just hope they can forgive me. My body hits the canopy at lightning speed and I hear the sickening crunch of bone against metal. It feels surreal as I watch my best friend, my wingman, cling to my lifeless body. The only thing I can think of is my family. I hope they know I love them. I don’t want to leave them just yet.
They tell him that they need to let me go, and I can hear myself begging for him to keep his hold tight. To bring me back to Carole and Brad. I want to apologize to him. It wasn’t his fault. It wasn’t anyone’s fault.

~ a you love me anyway blurb ~
A/N: just a small little blurb that i wrote after finishing ‘you love me anyway.’ timeline-wise, this takes place when charlie and bradley are in high school - he’s a senior, she’s a junior. i have a couple more blurbs planned, i just haven’t finished them, but they’ll all be bradley and charlie centered. as for what i have planned after that, you’ll just have to wait and see ;)
Warnings: underage drinking (charlie takes a sip of wine and there’s mention of drinking beers), mentions of a cancer diagnosis, mentioned inattentive parenting (charlie’s dad), carole reminiscing of her dead husband but it’s happy (RIP goose), carole definitely knows her son is head-over-heels in love with his best friend
Word Count: 0.96k
Tumblr media
She smiled and kissed him once more, suddenly remembering something Carole told her over late night glasses of wine.
“I’m not twenty-one, Carole.”
The woman holding the wine bottle and two glasses gave her a stern look. “And when has that ever stopped you and Bradley from sneaking beers out of Maverick’s fridge and drinking them on the roof? Humor me.” She poured a small amount of the red liquid into Charlie’s glass, and poured herself a more generous amount. Then she set all three on the small table on the front porch between their chairs and struggled for a moment, not used to getting into a chair by herself anymore.
“Let me—”
“I’ve got it, I’ve got it.” She almost collapsed into her chair, her body strength waning as the chemo treatments took more and more of her energy away. She grabbed her glass and swirled the wine for a moment before taking a sip, sighing at the night sky.
Charlie tried to follow suit, only drinking a sip, but her face immediately soured at the taste.
Carole just laughed lightly. “That’s exactly how I reacted the first time I tried it. It doesn’t get much better, either, you just get used to it.”
“Why do you want to get used to it, though? It’s so gross.”
She shrugged and brought the glass to her chest. “I think it’s more about the people you’re with. If the company is good, you don’t really mind what you’re drinking.”
Charlie nodded in agreement, setting the glass back down on the side table. “That’s how I feel with B when we sneak the beers; they’re so gross, but it’s more about watching the sunset and getting to talk.”
“Mmhmm.” Carole looked over at the younger girl with a mischievous glint in her eye. “And how often do you two do this?”
She rolled her eyes at the woman who had easily become ‘Aunt Carole’ after so many years between herself and her best friend. “Rarely, for your information. B is usually the one holding my hair back when I eventually throw up in the morning, and neither of us like being in that position.”
Carole winced slightly. “Yeah, that’s never fun.” Another sip of wine and she leaned even further back into her chair. “Nick and I used to do that.”
Charlie smirked at her and said, “Steal beers from Maverick’s fridge?”
“No,” she said as she rolled her eyes. “Not until we were much older. But we’d stay up until all hours of the night, just talking. I’d eventually get tired, and I never wanted to walk home, so I would look at him and say, ‘Hey, Nick, you big stud,’ with the biggest doe eyes I could manage. And he’d always say something sweet, like, ‘That’s me, honey.’”
Charlie smiled. It was rare for Carole to talk about her late husband without a hint of sadness, so to see her talk about him so vividly brought the younger woman a lot of joy.
“And then I’d say, finally getting to my master plan, ‘Take me to bed or lose me forever,’ knowing full well him taking me to bed or losing me forever wouldn’t happen, he couldn’t lose me even if he tried. And he’d say back, ‘Show me the way home.”
Her eyes glistened and her grip on her glass tightened. “I said it so often that it just became our thing. We said it constantly — it sort of became our ‘I love you.’”
“I love that.” Charlie turned in the chair to face Carole, leaning her head against the back. “I want to find a love like that some day.”
She looked at the young woman and smiled, then glanced at the street as a set of headlights aimed right for her driveway. “I don’t doubt you will, Charlie.”
A blue Bronco pulled in and parked in the driveway, the driver quickly exiting the car.
“I think that’s our cue,” Carole said with a grin. Charlie helped her stand, and the older woman took the bottle of wine and both glasses in hand just as her son joined them on the porch. “Just in time, baby.”
“Hey, Mom.” Bradley looked between the two women and smiled faintly, his eyebrows raised. “Have a good talk?”
“Only the best.” She pat his cheek and slowly walked inside, but not before turning to Charlie and saying, “Don’t stay away too long, sweetheart. Lovely talking to you.”
“You too,” she responded, and Carole finally retreated to the house. She turned back to Bradley, who was looking at her with a smirk.
“How much did you drink?”
She rolled her eyes and shoved him. “One sip, you asshole, it was so gross.
He laughed. “Good, I didn’t want to have to hold your hair back tomorrow morning.” He wrapped an arm around her shoulder and pulled her in close. “You staying the night?”
“No,” she sighed begrudgingly, “I have practice in the morning, I gotta go home.”
“Okay.” He closed the front door and locked it, then tucked his keys into his pocket. “I’ll walk you.” He wrapped his arm around her shoulder again, her arm automatically wrapping around his waist.
The walk was quiet. Charlie was always more subdued going home, not wanting to leave Bradley’s presence or enter her father’s. Not that her dad wasn’t kind, but he rarely gave any effort, especially after her mom’s death last year. And her best friend was a ball of sunshine, always laughing and smiling, it was hard to leave him.
They stopped in front of her house and she pulled away, but not before he got to ask, “You gonna be okay?”
She slipped far enough away that only his fingertips held onto her own. “Yeah, I will be.” She smiled at him softly. “I’ll see you tomorrow?”
“‘Course.” He shoved his hands into his pockets and smiled back. “‘Night, Lottie.”
“‘Night, B. Love you.”
“Love you too.”

TopGun ff/1
Pov I’m watching my two parrots not caring shit about the new food I got them. Also ruining literally everything. Disgraceful little ducks. It has a fun story how I got them, if anyone is interested I can tell you in the comments haha.
Tumblr media
III.
It was around 1pm when Iceman woke up her daughter. We could say she slept in after watching a whole season on Netflix. She only fell asleep after 3 in the morning. Ice knew that, and since Cam didn’t have to do anything in the morning he let her sleep.
When it was time he sat next to her gently shaking her shoulder a little.
“Cam, sweetie.” Iceman caressed her cheek.
“Hm..” she turned in her bed.
“Time to wake up. We’re leaving in an hour.”
“Are you mad.. an hour..” She pulled the blanket over her head.
“Baby, I know you are tired but we talked about this last night.”
“I know..” still she wasn’t moving.
“Fine then, the hard way it is..” he smirked little to himself. He did this when Cam was smaller. “Out of the bed soldier! Don’t make me say it twice!” He pulled off the blanket. “It it gonna be fifty pushups? Out of the bed!” He jokingly yelled and Cam started laughing.
“I’m not ten. But nice try.” She giggled sitting up.
“Come on sweetheart. I’ve made you breakfast.. lunch. Yeah. Come down.” He placed a soft kiss onto her forehead.
“Okay, just gonna dress up.”
Ice wasn’t too much of a cook. It was Sarah who was in the kitchen most of the time. Ice just helped in sometimes. As Cam was dressing up he called Mav. He only heard loud noises, a jet taking off.
“Where the hell are you Maverick?”
“Had something to take care of.” He said. But both knew it could wait.
“Mav, you can’t run away all the time.”
“I’m not running away Ice.”
“Yes you are! I know it’s hard but you know there are some decisions you have to make. Even if it’s rough.”
“I..” there weren’t many times when Maverick couldn’t say something. But now he seemed to be out of words. “I’m not good for this. I wish Charlie was still alive.. I can’t do this. I’m not a father, I’m a pilot.” He sat down forehead in his hand.
“Sometimes you have to be both Mav.”
“She doesn’t talk.. I don’t even know how to get closer.”
“Of course she doesn’t talk, she had a trauma, we don’t even know if she has any ptsd after it. That damn car was pushed into the cold river.”
“I know it was.” He swallowed. “I need you Ice, I need your help so bad.”
“I’m here. Go home, we’ll be there soon too. I just need to get Cam, I think she went back to bed.”
“Late nighter?”
“Was hanging with your pilots, and then watched something all night.”
“Ice.”
“Yeah?”
“You’re a good father.”
“You’ll be too, Mav.” Iceman knew they just needed to break the, well the ice. But who knew how thick was it. It was just so hard for them and god knows how long it would take. Neither Lacey or Maverick was ready to take a step ahead. Most likely they were slowly stepping back and back again.
“I don’t know man..”
“You will. Gotta go now, Cam finally showed up.”
“Dad where’s mom?” She asked.
“Went to see one of her friends sweetheart.”
“I can’t find my sweater.”
“Get ready Maverick. They are sometimes the worst little creatures. Bye buddy.” He laughed and hung up the phone.
“Have you seen it? It’s purple.”
“No baby, I haven’t.” He shook his head.
“Ah fuck..”
“Cam.”
“Sorry dad.” But she still rolled her eyes.
“We’re leaving in five.”
Well. It happened to be fifteen minutes. Eventually Cam found that purple sweater she wanted. Pairing it with black jean shorts she was all ready. The drive only took about a few minutes. None of them wanted to walk. So car it is.
Mav was already waiting for them outside with a worried expression on his face.
“Mav, what happened?”
“I got home but she wasn’t here.”
“Did she took anything with her? Clothes? A bag?” Ice lifted his eyebrows.
“No, everything is here.”
“Mav did you tell her we were coming over?” Ice asked and Cam was already laughing in her hand.
“I.. No I forgot.” He realized.
“Call her then.”
But he was hesitant.
“Oh my gosh Mav.” Cam laughed up loudly.
“You don’t have her number?” Ice facepalmed.
“I don’t…” his friend sighed. “I suck at this.. jesus.”
“She’ll be back. Don’t worry, let’s go in.” Ice pushed Mav into the house by his shoulders. Cam was still giggling about how much of a mess her uncle was.
“I mean. You start with every girl getting her number, how did you miss that step?” She asked Mav.
“Shut up Cam.” Ice playfully hit her thigh.
“No, she is right.” Mav smiled a little.
They heard the door open and Maverick jumped up faster than a missile.
Lacey didn’t realize that someone was at home and when Maverick rushed out of the living room she almost screamed.
“Oh gosh.. where were you? Why didn’t you tell me you were going away?” He didn’t mean to but his voice was more aggressive than it should be.
“Mav..” Ice heard it and warned him.
“Because you weren’t home..?” Lacey asked raising her eyebrows.
Ice walked over to them smiling.
“It’s nice to finally meet you. I’m Tom Kazansky, only Iceman.” He shook her hand.
“It’s nice to meet you. Lacey.” He looked kind and she still saw some of the mischievous spark in his eyes. She heard stories about her father and Iceman. When they were still young and flew together. It was always her mother who was telling their stories in stead of her father, who should be the one. Her smile slowly died down, and Ice noticed that.
“I want to introduce you my daughter Cam.” He hugged her shoulders.
Cam recognized her from last night, she was the girl Hangman tried to hook up with. Twist of fate huh?
“Hey, it’s Lacey.” A fake smile was the only thing she could gave.
“I saw you last night. At the Hard Deck.”
“Really?”
“Yeah, you were talking with Penny.” And ditched Hangman. Cam added in her head.
“Oh, I’m sorry but I didn’t see you.” She admitted. It was only Penny and Hangman she remembered.
“It’s fine.” She waved it off.
“You were at the Hard Deck?” Mav asked.
“It’s the genes what took her there.” Ice patted his shoulder.
“To be exact I’ll work there.”
Mav wanted to comment it but Ice spoke up first.
“Really? That’s gonna be good.” He nodded. “You know Penny and you father has some, business going on.”
“Do they?”
“Oh yeah. Right old man?”
“Don’t old man me, it’s not me sitting in an office.” He rolled his eyes.
“Still I’m saving your ass every time.” Ice hushed him. “Girls why don’t you go out, beach maybe?”
“Dad I told you I’m meeting up with the guys.” Cam looked at her father.
“Take Lace with you.”
“Oh no, it’s okay. I have program for the evening anyways.” Lacey smiled lightly. Ice was acting like we were fifteen. It’s funny a bit.
“You sure?” Ice looked at me and then gave a look for his daughter.
She nodded.
When only Ice and Mav was in the room they started talking.
“She will lose up. Good thing she opened for Penny.”
“I’m just bad at this.”
“What would he say right now?” Iceman looked at his friend. Deep into his eyes.
“Don’t.. don’t bring Goose into this.” He swallowed his tears.
“You’re not listening to me Mav.”
He didn’t say anything. Ice knew he needed some time.
“Imma go now, think.” He stood up patting his friend’s back.
“Don’t go.” He finally said.
The night at the Hard Deck just begun. Penny was teaching Lacey, just explaining her everything. The job was taking her mind off things, the constant spinning and small chats with the aviators seemed to help.
Soon Cam appeared on Hangman’s side, Coyote, Bob, Phoenix coming with them. Fanboy and Payback arrived a little later. As usual they were playing.
“So there will be this night.” Penny started when they had a little time to sit down.
“What night?” Lacey tucked back a strand of lose hair which escaped from the big hair-clip.
“We’ll be hosting an old timer night. 20’s, 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s. And I was thinking.” Penny smiled.
“And when will this night be?” Penny had the talent, somehow only she could steal little smiles from Lacey. Maybe it was the place helping too. But at the Hard Deck she thought less about that night.
“Friday.”
“It’s tomorrow!”
“That’s the best thing. You don’t have to wait.”
“So what were you thinking about?” She shook her head smiling.
“We should dress up Donna and the Dynamos.”
“We?”
“Of course.”
“But they were a trio.”
“Ah that’s settled. It’s on you.”
“Fine.” She laughed silently. “This should be epic though. Where are we getting costumes?”
“That’s settled too. Don’t worry about it.”
“I’m already scared.”
“Oh I forgot to mention. Pete is coming in Sam’s costume. I bought it yesterday.”
“Mamma Mia Sam?”
“It will be fun.”
“Can you sing?”
“Can you?” She raised her eyebrows.
“He can.” I pointed at Bradley.
“Do you know him?”
“Of course. It’s Bradley.”
He waved over to her but when a gorgeous girl walked in he turned his glance to her. He held out his hand for the girl. She had platinum blonde wavy, almost curly hair. She was short and a smile always sat on her face.
“That’s his fiancee.” Penny stepped beside her.
“She looks sweet.”
“She is, just something is missing from her.”
“Only the spice and everything nice.” Cam sat into one of the bar chairs.
“Yeah, look how your boy is looking at her.” Penny silently laughed. “Hangman is beyond annoyed.”
“He is not my boy.”
“Of course he is. He’s getting better. Two full minutes when she is around.”
“I’m sure she is not that bad.” Lacey said but the two women looked at her like she said that the submarines can fly. “Alright I’ll take it back.”
“Thank you.” Cam took a sip from his beer.
“I don’t fucking know how can anyone like her.” Hangman rushed over to them and the familiar cologne hit Lacey’s nose.
“Lace, I wanna introduce you to my fiancee, Carrie.”
Her hair wasn’t enough, even her name is like Carole. But the weird thing was that truly nobody liked her. Aside from Bradley and Maverick.
“It’s nice to meet you.” She shook her hand.
“I’m happy to meet you! Bradley sweetheart told me many things about you.” She smiled. Somehow too sweetly to be true.
When she and Bradley went back to the rest of the group Lacey quietly said, which only a few could hear. Even she had southern accent. The only thing missing from her, was the fierceness of Carole
“This is a very sick joke from life..”
