(1) the thing is, for me, in wanting to keep the mj thing a twist they pretty much killed the build up of the relationship. and also i love mary jane and peter and would love to see that adapted on tom's spidey BUT the way they went about it was not good. first of all the lack of personality mj has? yikes. zendaya has so much potential why waste that in stupid lines and whatever else they think they're doing with her character? is just ridiculous and that was only on homecoming.
(2) then it got worse on ffh like peter went from only acknowledging mj, because of well her out of place one-liners on homecoming, to suddenly I WANT TO DECLARE MY FEELINGS FOR HER like? the struggle peter has with not wanting the responsibility of being a hero (which is a great contrast with homecoming and that is awesome imo) would be so much better and have more depth if it was rooted on losing tony, which it somewhat is but the movie kept going on and on on how peter just wanted mj???
(3) and the whole thing bothers me because there's no development but nobody seems to see it? and okay this is the mcu and not much has an actual development but damn could they at least try? peter and mary jane is SO iconic and this is just sloppy tbh. toby's mj and andrew's gwen had the love story their deserved but tom got whatever this is :( and sorry for ranting on your ask but i feel like i'm alone in this and you're the first person to say something negative about it in my dash.
Hi! First of all, sorry for replying like three days later, but I wanted to sit on my laptop to write a proper reply instead of just agreeing with everything you’ve just said (which I whole-heartedly do).
Look, I am 24 years-old. Just yesterday, I saw a tweet of some screenshots of the kiss with a caption that said ‘can you believe these are the peter and mj from our generation???’, which if I’m being honest, made me feel incredibly left out because I grew up with the original trilogy of the Spider-Man movies. The first one came out in 2002, and I was 8 years-old -- I remember my father was excited and literally dragged me to the cinema to see it and I was like, BLOWN AWAY by it. Literally it was like my first favourite film with real people on it, and it stayed on my top list ‘till I was like 15 lmao. To me, Peter and MJ’s love story is one of the most iconics of all time, and their first kiss under the rain made me start to believe in love lmao. I know there were lots of problems with the relationship in the last movie of the trilogy, but I still love it with all my heart. I was so invested in it that I didn’t even watch The Amazing Spider-Man movies until recently; it just felt wrong.
And then, the MCU came along and Tom Holland was casted and he was such a sweet, pure, amazing Peter that he bought me completely. But what had me completely hooked was his relationship with Tony, which was essentially why I didn’t like SM:FFH as much as everyone else did. As you said, I think the main focus on this film should have been Peter’s grief at the loss of his mentor.... which, yes, it was in a way, but not as centrally as I would have liked. I get it, this is a Spider-Man movie, but Tony has been at Uncle Ben’s level of importance in this universe for Peter. I think the fact that they put the ‘romance’ in the spotlight threw me off. To quote you, it was underdeveloped and rushed. And this is coming from someone who is okay with Sharon and Steve, the most rushed relationship in the entire MCU, probably.
But I don’t like this version of MJ -- they tried to make her so ‘different’ and ‘strong’ and like, the radical opposite of Kirsten Dunst’s MJ that they screwed her up badly. It’s a pity in my opinion, because Zendaya is truly gorgeous and a great actress, but I’m fed up with people only accepting ‘tomboys’ as strong female characters. And the fact that one of the first things we listen to Peter say in the movie is about her, when he didn’t give a damn about her in the previous movie was like ??? so off ??? AND LISTEN, WHAT BOTHERS ME THE MOST -- HE WAS DEAD FOR FIVE YEARS. FIVE FUCKING YEARS, MATE. In Endgame, we saw how the world was, how dark and depressing it had become. Are you telling me in just a few months everything is sunshine and rainbows and like a musical again??? Now he only cares about a girl and doesn’t have any trauma about the time he’s lost??? They acknowledge it so little in the film, if that ‘video’ at the beginning could even be called acknowledgement.........
Also, the little details about Peter and Tony’s relationship. Couldn’t they have just given us more??? Tony had a picture of his kid in the kitchen, it was the main reason why he got off his ass and built the time machine. Are you telling me Peter couldn’t have had a picture of them too, make some parallels maybe??? The only time I remember where Peter behaves like he truly knew Tony was when EDITH says something like ‘Tony loved his acronyms’ and he’s like YEAH HE DID with a sad smile?? Maybe I’m too Irondad/Spiderson baised but, as I said, I was EXPECTING MORE DETAILS, MORE PERSONAL STUFF. They loved each other, they had a father-son relationship, for God’s sake.
But well, what’s done is done. I have fanfics to mend my broken heart. And, to be honest, apart from that, I enjoyed the movie... if only because I love Tom Holland. I seriously do -- he pours his whole body and soul into this character. I would have loved to see him in a more well-constructed love story. I think he would have pulled it off really well. But the actions scenes were fantastic, and Mysterio was one of the best villains the MCU has given us. Also, MAY AND HAPPY - I LOVED THEM! THE PLANE SCENE! THE WAY HAPPY LOOKED AT HIM WHEN HE STARTED BUILDING HIS SUIT, CLEARLY SEEING TONY! THE WAY TONY WAS PROBABLY ROLLING IN HIS GRAVE WHEN PETER CONFUSED AC/DC WITH LED ZEPPELIN! Those were the moments that truly mattered, that made me enjoy it.

Request 1: NezhaRin, The Poppy War by R F Kuang
I think I mostly would like AU content for them, because canon-compliant would simply be a variation of H/C and I’m not into reading that (for these ship). I’d prefer AUs like ATLA AU or Boarding School AU (the last one can be canon-compliant/divergent if the fic isn’t shippy! I disliked canon Nezha’s treatment of Rin in the Academy so idt I wanna necessarily read them being romantic in that context. Unless it’s a canon-divergent Nezha redemption :eyesemoji:) Tropes I’d like: First Kiss (or just physical touch in general?) and Rin and Nezha Use Their Words (in a way that doesn’t end in anger or betrayal or both CRIES AT RFK)
Including Kitay and Venka would make me VERY very happy, especially if they have scenes with all four of them.
A specific prompt for a specific fic I’d like for these two (but you don’t have to fill it, it is just in case): A fairytale AU where Nezha is a prince of the Dragon Kingdom, cursed by a fabled dragon (the curse can match canon’s) and Rin is a secret shaman and peasant who saves him. This is an Enemies to Friends or Enemies to Lovers fic prompt!
Request 2: ManChung, Hotel Del Luna
I love ManChan couple but Lee Do Hyun as Chung Myung gave me second lead syndrome and I would love more exploration of ManChung. Canon-compliant is preferable, but it can be canon-divergent also. No H/C please! I would like to see happy ManChung, with a HEFTY helping of Mutual Pining and BANTER. Yeonwoo cameos would be greatly appreciated, please!
Request 3: Gen Adventure Fic, Susie or Noelle-centric, DELTARUNE
I would love any in-Dark World side quest fic with either Susie or Noelle as the protagonist. Obviously, this would be canon divergent, but it can be set in either the Ch 1 Dark World or Ch 2 Dark World, totally up to you. You could also set it before the game starts TBH, starting it like Over the Garden Wall (just dropping the characters mid-adventure), just as long as it makes sense while reading LOL.
My favourite characters are Kris and Noelle, so please include them in the fic! If either of them have a prominent role, I’d love that. I prefer mute Kris, since they canonically do not talk and mostly communicate (when they are doing it of their own accord, and not by player prompt) through expression or body language; I’d love if that was reflected in the fic. I especially adore Susie’s friendships with both Kris and Noelle. I also love Lancer and Susie’s friendship, so if your protag is Susie, please try to include him somehow if possible!
Specific things I would like: light angst, someone saves someone else and it is an emotional but surprising moment, the characters having fun on the side quest, getting to know each other better
Request 4: Penelope AU, Anne of Green Gables
Okay, so I mostly don’t expect this request to be chosen… for some reason I feel it’s the least likely to get matched LOL, but if you do somehow get matched with AOGG… I am so sorry. I have a very specific prompt for you ;;
I would like to see a Penelope AU (the 2006 Christina Ricci movie) with either the pairing of Anne/Gilbert or Anne/Diana. I would prefer shirbert but I also do like Anne/Diana. The fic doesn’t have to be a scene-by-scene adaptation or anything, it can be a oneshot focusing on one or two scenes. I would particularly like to see the scene of the first time Penelope and Johnny meet (the link doesn’t include the full meeting unfortunately, but I mean from Johnny being hired up to when they interact and stuff!); or the final scene where Penelope goes to meet Johnny at his apartment. I’d also love to see the scenes where Penelope runs away from home and meets Annie, but it’s not a must. If you somehow manage to shorten the plot or do an epistolary adaptation, that would be cool too, but it’s up to you.
Specific things I would like: light angst, first kiss, characters with their canon personality instead of an AU personality (i.e., for example, if you use shirbert, then Anne and Gilbert would retain their AOGG personalities in this AU world; Anne might be irritated by Gilbert at the beginning, Gilbert might be intrigued by Anne for some reason from the start, etc.), some exploration of how the curse impacts how the character feels

Johnny: Gilbert/Anne
Edward: Roy Gardner/Ruby Gillis (you can change this up if you think of a better fit!)
Annie, Penelope’s friend on the outside: Phil Gordon/can’t think of who Diana’s ‘Annie’ would be…
If this is too hateful or difficult an ask though, I also like canon exploration of Shirbert in their teens or twenties, in an Established Relationship.
Request 5: Gen & Canon Exploration, Nikita TV
I’d like a fic that explores Alex’s growing friendship with Birkhoff. I’d like to see Banter between Birkhoff, Alex and Nikita. My favorite parts about the show were how much the characters grew with each other and how their trust and friendships grew too, and I’d like an Alex-centric fic that explores her relationships with the gang, esp Birkhoff and Nikita.
As for the setting, inside Division would be great but it can be others too, I don’t mind. I would Love to see greater exploration of “Division is fundamentally evil and should be destroyed” VS “Division can be a force for good if the right people are in charge” discourse that the gang fights over. I’d also really love an exploration of anti-US government rhetoric through Nikita, Birkhoff, Alex, and Michael.

The Harryanthe (Harrowhark/Ianthe) tag is so empty, I would be grateful for anything tbh. And I say Harryanthe, but I would also GREATLY love Griddleharryanthe (Gideon/Harrow/Ianthe) like A LOT.
I don’t have any specific ideas for what I want to read but things I would definitely like to see: BANTER please snipy snarky bitch banter, Harrow and Ianthe having a genius-nerd-off, Gideon being lewd and flirty towards both Harrow and Ianthe, Gideon being tender with Harrow and a dick to Ianthe, Ianthe being a Huge Bitch but also simping for Harrow (and Gideon?)
Palamedes Sextus is my favourite character so please work him into the fic somehow, if you are able!! Even a snippet of him and Cam being there would be fine.
If you would like a specific prompt: I’d like GtN canon-divergent scene packs with either harryanthe or griddleharryanthe. OR the canon-compliant Ball AU in HtN with the three of them :0

Request 4: Character Study, Extraordinary You
I would like to see character study fics for any or all of the following characters: Haru, Yeo Joo Da, and Eun Dan Oh. In order of priority!
For Haru and Yeo Joo Da, I’d specifically like to see a character study of right after or during when they gain their egos. For Haru, the first time he gains his ego as Number 13.
For Eun Dan Oh, I’d like to see a character study of her after Haru disappears for the second time (in the finale) and that one year in the Secret universe. It can start off sad but I’d like to see what the character would be feeling beyond just grief! (Because Dan Oh had kind of mellowed out and accepted her fate in the epilogue, right before she finds Haru’s journal. I wanna see how she got there)
If these are too specific, I’m also okay with a shippy or gen fic with the ships Joo Da/Do Hwa and DanHaru.
Request 5: Gen, It’s Okay to Not be Okay
How did publisher Lee Sang In meet and hire author Go Moon Young? Why did Moon Young agree to work with him? In the show, Sang In says he’s been working with her for a decade, so they would have met around when Moon Young is 18 or 19. And admittedly, Sang In is the closest person to Moon Young before the Moon brothers enter the picture. You can tell she trusts him, even if she treats him badly; he knows about her father, he takes care of her affairs. And Sang In is fond of Moon Young. How did they get to that point?
I’d like the fic to explore both the characters and their relationship. It doesn’t have to be super detailed, or cover both their POVs, but I’d like it if it showed how the two feel towards each other. Cameos from either of the Moon brothers would also be nice!
If this is too specific, a cute gen fic about Sang In reacting to Moon Young and Gang Tae getting married would be nice too.
