Water Lillies. Still. Harmony. Peace. It rained on my birthday. So, no trip to the beach to start my year immersed in water. “The water came to you,” @slimzadie gestured to to the sky to reassure me that my year wasn’t ruined. I was still disappointed. Then I walked into a gallery at Nelson-Atkins Museum and lost my breath. I sat with Water Lillies. And sat. And sat. Chills came. Tears came. My heart opened. I sank back into myself, into another me from a long time ago. I pictured Monet in his garden finding solace during tumultuous times. I pictured him, for some reason, in a pristine light blue painters smock. A memory of a photo? An ideal of wartime painters? I positioned myself so that I could only see the painting and imagined myself sitting in his garden. Sitting behind him, so that what I saw was actually what he was painting. And the chills and tears came. It wasn’t quite the same as being in the lake, feeling weightless and free, light and full. It was delicious and life-affirming. It was beautiful, of course, but so much more than I can’t fully wrap my head around it or put into words. I didn’t expect it and I didn’t ask for it, adding to the deliciousness. A true birthday treat. #monet #waterlillies #nelsonatkins #birthdaytreat #birthday #museum #art #artmuseum #mindfulness #kc #kansascity #summer #kcmo (at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art) https://www.instagram.com/p/CfRXgBMLDyX/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

So, the last time I posted I was at Third Thursday, and here I am again—just to give reference about how long it has been. I’m inconsistent about posting on here, but I did trip up the steps of the Nelson again, so 🤷🏻‍♀️ Blessed to have a roomie who doesn’t laugh at me too much when I trip up steps or have to climb over a rock wall in a skirt 🤪🥰💓 #ThirdThursday #NelsonAtkins (at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art) https://www.instagram.com/p/B3wtBv8B8xk/?igshid=1v1koe3fyc8yd

Oh #caravaggio your #saintjohnthebaptist is still one of my favorite paintings by my favorite artist. I get all weepy when I see it. The #baroque period inspires me so much. Also he looks like Ben and that has now entertained his entire family and we all think he should pose for a fancy photo imitating it. #nelsonatkins #artmuseum #baroqueart (at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bq0bhcfFXCT/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1l7a1zswygnbt
