Ways the average person can raise awareness for World Wetlands Day!
There are several ways the average person can raise awareness for World Wetlands Day:
Share information about wetlands and the importance of their conservation on social media. Use the hashtag #WorldWetlandsDay to join the conversation and share facts, photos, and personal experiences related to wetlands.
Participate in local events and activities to raise awareness about wetlands. Many organizations host events such as educational walks, bird-watching tours, and conservation projects that are open to the public.
Write to your representatives and urge them to support wetland conservation efforts. You can also call on them to protect wetlands from development and pollution, and to support the restoration of degraded wetland habitats.
Educate others about wetlands by sharing information and resources with family, friends, and community members.
Take personal actions to protect wetlands in your own community by participating in clean-up efforts, promoting sustainable use of wetlands, and encouraging others to do the same.
Support organizations that work to protect wetlands and their biodiversity. You can donate money or time to help wetland conservation efforts.
Lastly, you can also make conscious choices that help wetlands, such as using natural fertilizer in your garden, reducing your water consumption and using water-saving devices, and choosing products that are environmentally friendly.
Remember, World Wetlands Day is not only a day to raise awareness but also to take action to protect wetlands and ensure that they are around for generations to come.

Did you know you can turn your garden into a Certified Wildlife Habitat?
Though the National Wildlife Federation, you can certify your yard, container garden, schoolyard, and more as a certified wildlife habitat.
Once you meet all the requirements, you can apply and have a chance to get a fancy plaque for your garden.
Your garden must have"
Food. Plants that produce food or food boxes.
Water. Access to some sort of water source like a bird bath or (if you wanna be fancy) a fountain.
Cover. Places to hide, sleep, and escape from harsh weather. Things like trees, fence bushes, a dog house, or a bird house.
Places to raise young. Bird houses, bat houses, bee habitats, tall trees, and anything else some little creature could raise a family in.
Sustainable Practices. Maintaining your garden in an environmentally friendly way to make sure that all recourses stay clean and useable. Using Soil and Water conservation practices (drip irrigation, reducing erosion, using multch etc), Integrated Pest Management to reduce and remove invasive species, and eliminating Chemical Pesticides all go towards sustainable garden practice.
Please read more on the National Wildlife Federation website if you are considering applying. I probably missed some things here but this is so fucking cool.

I've been thinking in the context of being a Conservation Biology/ Ecology major and it is truly astounding how fundamentally and intimately Conservation and Ecology is linked to Ethnobiology in relation to indigenous peoples.
Indigenous peoples are true stewards of the land they originally inhabited, and unfortunately, a large reason why the environment is in such a degraded state is because we have lost and displaced so many indigenous people from their homes.
Humans are the invasive species ever, but it gives me a sort of sense of hope knowing that as a species we haven't all been in a constant battle with nature and don't need to be in order to survive.
(this is a pretty optimistic and simplified outlook, so let's discuss this further in the comments!)

If we don't tend to our planet and keep it viable and clean it is the equivalent of pooping where we eat. The planet must be kept in balance and nature is part of that....

Accidentally getting myself into the Detroit: Become Human fandom 4 years late is hilarious and bizarre and also I find myself researching the city of Detroit, its history, culture, geography...
And then I get BLINDINGLY FURIOUS at Cyberlife for building their STUPID UGLY CORPORATE BUILDING on land that has historical and cultural significance, not to mention destroying one of the natural spaces available to an urban population mostly consisting of minorities, and probably increasing the pollution of the Detroit River and contributing to the toxic algae bloom in Lake Erie, even if it's just run off from their stupid ugly construction,
And then I remember that Cyberlife is a fictional company :)
And then I remember that real corporations pull this crap and I'm glad that in the four years since DBH came out Belle Isle is protected by not one but 4 separate conservation organizations and in 2019 Lake Erie was granted legal personhood status (like a company) so that individuals can sue on behalf of the Lake when it is insufficiently protected/polluted by industrial and agricultural run-off. And there are programs going into action to help local farmers with better/more effective/less destructive practices.
Sometimes not everything is horrible :)
Good times

It is difficult to distinguish the conservation groups who really see a value in nature and those who simply want it preserved for the sake of human enjoyment. Regardless of motive or perspective they are more reliable allies in most causes than are the churches or the political parties.
