i've been doing something called whumbtober. i'm pretty far behind on it, but i just finished Day 14 (water inhalation). aaaand i knew what i had to write........ @yontoko ; @mt-v3 ; you'll enjoy this
“Fuck, my head hurts.” Maeko thought to herself as she leaned back in her office chair. “I should take some painkillers; this is getting intolerable.”
Suddenly, the front door of her apartment was kicked in, making a sickening noise.
“What the hell?!” Immediately, she got up from her chair and ran to the front door.
The person standing in her doorway was Sou Hiyori–one of her bosses at ASU-NARO. “Good evening.” She greeted with an eerie smile and a wave.
“Sou, what the fuck? You better pay for that!” She hissed.
A giggle escaped the other. “Oh, don’t worry. You won’t need that much longer.”
“What the FUCK are you talking about?”
“Ohhh, nothing.” Sou crept closer to the other.
Maeko took a step back as she felt her heart drop to her stomach. Without wasting any more time, she turned around and dashed to her bedroom, slammed the door, and locked it.
“That’s not gonna work!” The green-haired woman shouted from the other side.
In a panic, Maeko shoved her desk in front of the door and backed up.
After a few moments, she heard something inside the lock of the door.
That was when she realized: “She’s picking the lock!”
Thinking quickly, she opened her closet door, then slammed it closed. After, she quietly snuck into her bathroom, gently closed the door, and locked it as quietly as she could. Maeko could feel her heart pounding against her chest, as if it was ready to leap out at any second. She waited with bated breath.
After a few moments, she heard the desk she moved topple over, then not long after, she heard her closet door creak open. Then a little bit later, it closed again.
Internally, Maeko was hoping that Sou would go away after checking the closet. The longer this went on, the louder her heart banged in her ears. She took a few steps backward. The back of her heel hit the bathtub. Instinctively, she turned around. To her shock, it was full. “Who the hell?! Was it Sou?!”
Right as that occurred to her, she heard the doorknob jiggle in place. Then she heard the lock turn. Maeko’s heart momentarily stopped. Then she heard it click out of place, and Sou opened the door.
“Hello again.” Sou greeted with a cheerful and eerie grin on her face. “I was wondering where you were hiding. I’m surprised you didn’t slip underneath your bed!”
“I don’t know what you’re planning, but get away from me.” Maeko demanded.
Instead of replying, Sou simply stepped closer.
“Get the fuck away from me!”
“I don’t think I will!” With one swift movement, Sou grabbed Maeko by the throat and slammed her head against the nearest wall.
Shrieking in pain, Maeko fell to the tile floor. “You bitch!” She yelled out. The room was spinning.
“Why thank you.” Sou grabbed Maeko by her light blue hair, pulled her up, then shoved her face into the tub full of water.
“NO! NOT LIKE THIS!” Maeko’s thoughts were running wild as she flailed frantically. She tried elbowing Sou, but all that accomplished was making her elbow hurt; Sou was made of metal after all. She felt her lungs screaming for air.
From behind her, Maeko could hear a very garbled and sadistic laugh. “Poor Maeko!” Sou cackled. “Just like her friend!”
Maeko could feel the water entering her lungs. All of her desperate attempts were for nothing though. Eventually, her body couldn’t take it anymore. Her eyes closed for the final time.
Sou waited a few minutes before letting go of Maeko’s head. Maeko had long since passed away, but Sou wanted to be 100% sure the job was finished. “Nice knowing you, Ms. Teruya.” The green-haired woman said as she proceeded to leave Maeko’s apartment, leaving the teenager’s head submerged underwater.

Originally I wasn't going to respond to this, I thought it was funny so I giggled at it with my friends and I thought that would be it. But I realized this is a wonderful opportunity to write a really long post disproving these theories that this fandom insists are canon. I’ll start by debunking some common arguments.
I put a lot of effort into this and am actually using proper grammar IM SERIOUS GUYS!!! This is really long by the way
“Shin saw Midori like an older brother”
I’ll get this argument out of the way first because it’s weak, it’s a common trope in media where relationships are described as familial to show the closeness of the relationship. Even so, Shin probably said that because he looks up to Midori and respects him. If you just want to see them as having a brotherly relationship, that’s fine, but this argument doesn’t stand for calling Soushin proship.
“Midori groomed Shin”
I honestly have no idea where this theory even came from. Some people say that Midori preyed on Shin and that he was much older, while it’s more likely they are both in the same age range. Shin is canonically 21-22 years old while Midori’s age isn’t stated, but since they were in highschool together it can be assumed he wasn’t all that much older than him. Not saying you can’t headcanon that they aren’t, but you shouldn’t push your headcanons as canon to insist Soushin is proship.
Midori changed to Shin’s school so that he could get his signature but he also became his friend in order to make the Shin AI. He could have easily just been a highschooler himself.
Midori is an Asu-Naro agent and from what we know about them they have used underaged people for labor (eg. Kai, Sei, Hinako). If the common theory that the silhouette in Kai’s mini episode being Midori’s mom is true, it’s probable that he grew up similarly to Kai and Sei, being made to do Asu-Naro’s bidding as children. It’s not like you need the credentials of an adult to give out contracts. You could also make the argument that Midori must be older because he worked as a nurse and school counselor while trying to get participant signatures, but one could argue Asu-Naro has the connections to get him in such a position without schooling or even have higher levels of schooling to get the education in a shorter timespan. But I’m getting off topic.
Many people who say Midori groomed Shin say that he groomed him into believing he had to leave himself behind and that is why he took on Midori’s persona in the death game when it’s clearly not the case in canon. It was Midori who wanted Shin to be the best version of himself.
“And you… should become the person you want to be, so you can meet them proudly.”
This dialogue is part of Shin’s lost memory, where they are talking about Shin’s wish to meet his lost sibling. It’s one of the only shown scenes of Shin and Midori pre-canon, and he’s clearly being supportive and wanting Shin to be happy with himself.
Here ‘???’ is the shadow version of himself, he is having an inner conflict of interest. Commonly referred to as Shadsou, is the actual reason Shin took on Midori’s persona. What Shadsou is exactly is ambiguous but generally it’s the personification of Shin’s devil's advocate. People often assume that Shadsou is another consequence of Midori’s impact on Shin, as if he isn’t his own character who can make his own decisions. This fandom often waters down his character and infantilizes him like this.
“Midori is Shin’s abuser”
Again, another headcanon people insist is canon. The reality is that Midori and Shin’s relationship is ambiguous and it hasn’t been explored much in canon. Soushin can be explored in many different ways because of how vague their relationship is. Saying that Midori abused Shin is an unsubstantiated claim so it’s just a headcanon, not saying you can’t have that but again, you can’t be claiming it’s fact.

“But it’s implied to be abusive”
This is usually the evidence they use for the implication:
“He’s… a scary friend of mine…”
Midori’s mannerisms are scary. It isn’t just Shin who thinks that he is, he’s one of the main antagonists of the game. Shin finding Midori to be scary doesn’t mean he abused him.
“Though I learned a lot of things at his house…”
It’s insane to me that people use this as evidence but, this is clearly about Midori teaching him how to code. People claim that it has deeper meaning but really it comes down to how you want to interpret it.
There are multiple points where Midori is shown to feel affection in strange ways. It’s possible he didn’t understand ordinary forms of affection, similarly to Kai who was deprived of affection growing up as an agent. Midori’s odd mannerisms towards Shin could just be how he shows his love. awww. isnt that so sad
Many people call Midori Shin’s abuser and claim Soushin is proship without proper canonical proof. A lot of people who kin Shin project onto their relationship and insist that it’s abusive because their bias rooted from their own trauma and experiences clouds their perception of Shin. This happens along with people infantilizing Shin and excusing all of his actions by blaming the supposed ‘grooming’ or ‘abuse’ he experienced from Midori. This is just a common problem with mischaracterization of Shin and Midori by the fandom. It’s gotten to the point where people like this dear anon believe these things to be true!
Then there's the people who ARE proshippers and insist that Soushin is abusive or pedophilic because they want it to be and are looking at them with that lens of thinking. These people greatly help spread the idea that Soushin is a proship, making it much harder to discern canon from fanon when much of the Soushin content is by these people, specifically outspoken adult western fans that praise proship and advocate out for Soushin being problematic, that's what the general fandom now sees it as even though it’s just not canonically happening.
At the time of posting this, Shin’s minisode has yet to come out. I’m sure that once it does it will give a much clearer view of their relationship, maybe I’ll have more to say then! For now, that is all I’ve got for you tumblr.

what are your thoughts on an 'everyone survives au', what they would do after the death game?
(Before I get into separate headcanons, I want to add that I think every single one of these characters would be struggle with paranoia. I mean, they were put in a death game.)
Sara Chidouin - Sara ends up staying at Joe's place a lot considering her Father was taken down with the company. It's easier for her to hang out with him then to stay at home, but she still calls her Mother daily to make sure she's alright. Other than that she continues going to class and her near death experience has only made her more determined to get good grades so she can go to a good school. She also finds a local kendo and joins as a student.
Joe Tazuna - Joe finds a lot of comfort with Sara staying at place. It makes him feel more secure that they're together, and the whole experience has certainly made him value their friendship. But outside of her, he keeps going to school with the intention of getting his diploma. He's not sure of what he wants to do after high school, but his experience has left him more determined then ever to live life in the moment.
More Undercut
Gin Ibushi - Gin goes back home and gives his Mom a big hug. He missed her a lot, and he's very glad to be home safely with Mew-chan. He was walked home by Sara and his Mother ensures that he can still see big sis Sara and all his other new friends. Despite his new connections his Mother is still worried for his safety, so she moves him to a private school that is much smaller. He gets a lot more help here and makes some good friends his own age, but he's still always excited to see Sara and Joe when they come to tutor him after school.
Keiji Shinogi - Keiji is forced to finally get therapy considering his friends around him know that he can't keep ignoring his issues. He gets a lot of encouragement from them, but he knows that the healing process takes awhile. While he works on himself, he gets a job as private investigator and helps people that the police won't. Also he dyes his hair a different color to symbolize a fresh start. (Also because the person writing this post hates his hair color.)
Alice Yabusame - With ASU-NARO's grip loosened, Alice is released from jail within a few months time. He doesn't go back to making music considering Reko already has an established band and he feels like he's intruding, but he still gets what he really wants. He gets to play music with Reko again. This time for fun without the pressure of stardom. As for his career...well it comes to him while he's reapplying hair dye. He decides that he would make a great hair dresser, and Reko supports him whole heartedly.
Reko Yabusame - With a near death experience to change her life, she decides to send Alice a letter in prison and offer a chance at reconciliation. He takes it, of course, and she's glad that she's the first one to great him once he's released. Outside of Alice, she decides to tour with her band. Life is short, and she wants to play as much music as she can in that time!
Nao Egokoro - Nao goes back and finishes her collage education. That's what's most important to her, but after her education is said and done she works out a plan with Mishima to become his official mentee. She wants to teach art to some day, but in the meantime, she's more than happy to attend all the shows Reko invites her to.
Kazumi Mishima - He goes back to teaching as that's his passion. Yet now he tells his story to his students as both a cautionary tale and a tale of persevering despite all odds.
Q-taro Burgerberg - Q-Taro goes back to playing sports. It's what he loves, and he's not going to let a death game slow down his passion. He also keeps in contact with Gin and frequently takes him to watch his games.
Kai Satou - With parts of both his families taken down with ASU-NARO, he is left having to live for himself. He gets a job as a chef and his own apartment in the middle of town. It's all very new to him, as is his friendship with the rest of the group. He talks to Q-Taro and Sara the most, often checking in on them to make sure that they're doing okay. He's even let Sara crash at his place a few times if Joe wasn't around and she needed a break from home. He really feels like she's family, and it fills some of the hole Mr. Chidouin left behind.
Kanna Kizuchi - Kanna is very glad to be home with Kugie and her parents. She's also glad that she has Sara and Shin's number and can call them anytime if she wants hangout. They both frequently come to pick her up to get ice cream, and they pick her up from school so she doesn't have to walk home.
Shin Tsukimi - Shin doesn't handle being put into a death game well. Even though he survived despite all odds (or percentages) he still struggles with shaking the fear. Anyway, let me elaborate on my AU about this exact scenario where Shin ends up traveling and living in hotels so no one can truly track his location. Also very important note that he keeps with Kanna and they eventually find out that they're bio siblings after he meets Kanna's parents and they recognize the name of his parents.
Dolls
Ranmaru Kageyama - Ranmaru gets Sara's, Joe's, and Anzu's number before he leaves the death game. Despite it all, it feels...refreshing to have new friends in his life that are happy to talk with him. He spends a lot of time texting with them, and when he's not doing that he relaxes with the knowledge that he has genuine friends.
Naomichi Kurumada - He's proud of everyone that they were all able to win, and he has a new outlook on teamwork considering they were all able to win together. He continues to box, but now he has new friends coming to watch him from time to time.
Anzu Kinashi - Anzu goes back to business as usual. She likes being a funny clown girl and wants to continue her craft. She would like to see her mentor again to tell him all that's happened, but she'll be happy preforming either way.
Mai Tsurugi - Mai goes back to the bakery and uses her near death experience as a way to make money. Anytime anyone comes in she goes "I just had the roughest time,🥺" so she will get better tips.
Shunsuke Hayasaka - Shunsuke tries to find a different job that doesn't tangle him up with ASU-NARO. He figures he'll try to get some kind of desk job, but in the meantime, he enjoys taking his morning jogs again.
Hinako Mishuku - It depends on how the participants escaped the death game. If ASU-NARO was running then she'd stay with the company and wonder what was next. Maybe it would be another death game, or maybe they'd do something new, but she is loyal since ASU-NARO presumably wouldn't get the chance to betray her in this route. However, if ASU-NARO was destroyed, then she'd have to find an entire new path in life. Where that could take her I couldn't say with as little as we know about her real personality now.

he doesn't know about Sei
he doesn't really know he's related to Kai since Gashu doesn't refer to him as his son and can't show any kind of affection towards him, but knows about him as "one of Asu-Naro's greatest traitors"
while he is almost fluent in every language in the world (thanks to the internet), he can hardly read and cannot write in any of them. The most he can accomplish is writing "父さん", ”トトノエル", and maybe "ハンナキ" in a 5 year old hand writing. He could learn, but he doesn't care since he sees no use for it, especially with Safalin there to help him if he really needs to
While the visible parts of his body are super detailed and realistic, those that are usually covered by clothes are just a block of plastic with poorly drawn details
he likes to draw on himself with washable markers since the drawings look like he has tattoos (...like his dad, you know... to show loyalty to the organization on your own skin, something that will never go away, no matter if you try to leave... the yakuza can work like that sometimes)
he's utterly terrified of Salvador Dalí for some reason
he tried to learn how to smile and laugh realistically, practicing in front of a mirror for hours and asking AIs for advice, but he eventually gave up since it was too hard for him

Warnings: full on angst, light fluff at the end
I just wanted to write this, so I could grieve and pour my heart out. Although, I was never really an aroha, to know we lost yet another angel breaks my heart. I hope you enjoy it.
People were mourning the death of moonbin as they can only hopelessly cry and sob as the show began to show pictures of him. Then the groups have to perform. You step up to the stage and began you performance.
You make me feel special....

You bow to the people there as you go backstage. When you arrived there, you saw viviz there, sitting and waiting for their turn to perform. You look at sinb and she looks at you. She hold out her arms as you hug her, crying.
Eunha and umji lightly pat both of your backs, trying to console you two. This was it, what you wanted for so long. A moment of appreciation to the lost and grief you felt in your heart the moment he left. you guys released the hug and smile at each other. Viviz then go on stage to perform as you smile, knowing that you guys helped each other recovered a bit.
Your manager come and tell that it is time for you to go. You nod and stand up as he escorts you to the car. You guys got in and drove off.
You only stare at your phone, more specifically your wallpaper. It was a photo of you two. Moonbin was holding you while you were wrapping your arms around his neck. You only smile at this fond memory, it was when you guys started dating. Hang outs turned into dates, casual walks around the park turned into visiting exciting places. Those were very wonderful times.
You felt the car stopping. You look out but you guys were at the airport. You look at your manager and he only chuckles. He gestured to the entrance and you looked closer. you were shocked, wide eye. But you smile as you got out of the car and hug her.
"sua I thought you was at the funeral"
She only return the gesture and she sighs.
"it's not the same without his lover there you know."
"you cheeky rascal!"
You both laugh. You waved goodbye to your manager as he gives you a thumbs up. You walk with sua to the airport to travel back to Korea to the funeral place. While you and sinb are late, you guys could still grief him. You look up at the sky through the see through glass to see millions of stars shining brightly, you chuckle.
I wonder which of these beautiful stars is you, binnie. If you really do Cherise our promise then protect us and everyone you love even when you're now only a star, my binnie.
You smile brightly as you and sua board the plane back to Korea so you could pay your respect and keep him in your heart.
No matter if you're a star or a human binnie, we will always love you forever.

Ephyra has never felt like this before.
Never felt the sparkling warmth of another person's attention on her as she undresses in their arms.
Amal, strong and kind and steadier than she is, whispers his affection against her skin, things he's told her for weeks, and she believes him. Gods, does she believe him.
On the white shores of Covera, they entwine their lives for a while. It's a childish, clumsy knot and they call it love. It is love, intense and raw, and trying so hard to last forever. It doesn't last. It can't.
He leaves to be with family in Naro, and she's still got a contract in Tol Covere. They promise to write, but promises are fumbled as easily as first love.

Serapi touches Ephyra with sure hands, kisses her with a terrifying resolution. Calls her "Phy" in a voice sweet as spun sugar. And oh, she knows this feeling.
Or perhaps it's more accurate to say she's stood in the shadow of whatever this is, because with Serapi, it is more.
Serapi is a beauty from a farming village outside Noctia, and she is strong and steady, too. She finds Ephyra at her lowest point; a lonely wanderer searching for her family, if any remain. Serapi, lonely in her own way, could be her family too.
For a long time, Ephyra stays with her. They spend days tending the shop owned by Sera's ailing mother, evenings dancing in the local tavern, and nights tangled in each other. Has she ever felt anything so great? Will she feel it again, and does it matter?
They fall in love anyway.
She weighs one loss against the other, her search for wayfarers or the beginnings of a life in this Arsenian valley, and the decision breaks her heart. Serapi offers so much, but she can't give her closure. Ephyra has to leave, and Serapi, like cinnamon and honey, is stuck between her teeth. A sweetness she will never forget.

Loving Aeran is as heavy as Rona's rain. It's not just him, but his pain, and the pain they share.
This time is not like the others.
Ephyra can measure her life by Aeran's presence. Two scared kids freezing their asses off in the back of a wooden cart. Two old friends in a sad, sobbing heap in the middle of the desert. What will his next demarcation be?
It's different, it's arduous, almost like an obligation. Who will love him if not her? Who will carry what he can't? And he doesn't have to tell her he feels it too. They don't talk about it, but she knows.
There are times Aeran can almost admit it, when the smile she remembers parts his gloom like a sunbeam, but he shies away. He might run if she presses too hard.
Ephyra hopes for more, one day. Mostly she hopes her friend will come back.

The ring remains in her pocket, a curious little trinket she can't bring herself to sell. Ephyra's hand floats to it out of habit these days, toying with it absently, trying not to think about brown eyes crinkled with laughter, or that long smirk begging to release a playful barb, or hands far more gentle than they have any right being.
You don't know them, she scolds herself. They could be awful. They have the power to hurt you.

Ephyra closes her eyes and there's Amal's ever-present smile behind violet lips, Serapi's green eyes in the evening sunlight, Aeran and the life they once shared, and she makes herself an unlikely promise: if she sees Veyer again, and if they let her, she'll give in to the feeling and see where it goes.

"I swear to Eru," Feanaro growled and glared at the sky.
"Don't swear," Nerdanel huffed, trailing behind him. "Come on, it's but a rain, and it hasn't even started yet. We have plenty of time to hide."
"To hide!" Feanaro kicked a rock from the trail, fastening his steps. "To hide!"
"Don't be so dramatic, Naro. It's not some evil plot the Valar personally have against you."
"I wouldn't be so sure, Nerdanel. Everything is an evil plot if you squint hard enough."
"I'm in no mood for squinting," she grabbed his hand and rushed forward. The sky was becoming heavier, and the first thunder rumbled in the distance. "Okay, quick. There's a cave not so far from here, if we're fast enough we have a chance not to soak to our bones."
By the time they reached the hideout, the rain had already started. They were both breathing heavily, but there was no real weariness to it; their eyes were shining, and they were both laughing. Feanaro threw his cape over Nerdanel; the woman huffed and bumped her head against his shoulder.
Feanaro hugged her, burying his head in her neck. Nerdanel went still, not quite used to such actions.
"You... alright there?"
"I'm just- I'm glad I have you," the elf breathed out and made a step back. His cheeks were flushing slightly. "I'm- thank for coming with me for this- journey, I guess. Sorry for the rain though, it wasn't planned."
"Like you could have planned the rain," Nerdanel grinned, and the next second she was hugging him. Feanaro stilled, and then pulled away as if she physically burned him.
"I- I need to start a fire," he blunted, cheeks hopelessly red, and run back outside.
Nerdanel decided she won't remind him of the fact that it's still raining, or of the fact that they're betrothed. She simply looked up and winked, thanking Ulmo in her own subtle way.

Hiyori’s “You all can’t understand my affection” is a line that bounces in my head like one of those DVD screensaver things and when it hits a corner I write a paragraph overanalyzing it
just. not only does he think wanting to kill Shin is affection, he thinks it’s the superior way to show affection. which. how does someone come to either of those conclusions?? what kind of mental gymnastics do you have to perform to think that?
I prefer to think that growing up he was just taught that the ASU-NARO way of doing things is generally the better one, and ASU-NARO probably had some weird ideas about affection. but also Hiyori probably took those ideas way too far and added some of his own insane nonsense, considering how much more unhinged he is than the other floormasters.
also also he might just think that killing Shin himself is an act of mercy, “since he was going to die anyway.” at least that way he’ll be dead at the hand of his best friend instead of a stranger that saw him as a tool for escape! and his suffering won’t be pointless because Hiyori’s definitely going to enjoy it!

How would you write the ending of yttd?
For the emotion route I would have the entire group escape through the exit mentioned in 3B except for Keiji. I would have him sacrifice himself to save in his mentee after being unable to save his mentors. I also think it would be a good indicator that his arc has gone from logical to emotional.
As for the logic route I would do an ending where two winners remain and as per the rules one of them has to become a doll.
These two people being Sara and Shin.
Sara, or the player, would be given the choice to either sacrifice themselves for Shin and become a doll or force him to become a doll and take her rightful place as the winner of the death game.
To round this out with the emotion route ending I would have it heavily implied that Sara/Shin are going to have control over ASU-NARO and they'll be able to use their standing to prevent a future death game. While in the emotion route it's unknown who will take over the company and it's entirely possible that someone worse will be at the head in the future.
A lot would happen before the endings, but that's where I think I would take things in the very end.

Ayano Kirigiri is an author, popular with a diverse audience. They act either way beyond their years, or way below. Some may find find this to be a manipulation tactic, but that’s for you to judge.
As of recently, they have been a bit… Closed off. More mature than usual. They also zone out more often. Nobody has figured out why.

11. Do I write scenes in order or do I jump around?
I do write scenes in order. I cannot jump scenes much as I sometimes would like to. Sometimes when a line of dialogue punches me in the face, I jot them down, but it's lines not full scenes.
24. How do I choose which POV to write?
Sometimes, when an idea springs in my mind, I see it primarily as an Aziraphale or Crowley story, so it kinda chooses itself. In multichaps, it's sorta by hunch? Hahaha idk how to explain. It's like oh, I feel this part would enrich itself by a mixed POV. In general, I prefer one POV to exercise the writing muscles of showing what the other character is feeling without never going into his head. It's fun!
