Re-reading the Silmarillion and I don't know how I missed the bit about the light of the two trees mingling during Fëanor and Fingolfin's reconciliation. Had to rough this up to get it out of my head

My toxic trait is that when I encounter the ‘Fëanorian lisp’ in a fanfiction I’ll go check the root of the word to make sure it was originally written with a Þ and it is not a linguistic abomination. For example: Þauron is correct since the archaic form is Thaurond, but saying Þilmaril would send Fëanor in a fiery fit of anger.

Can we take a moment to talk about that generation that consisted mainly of the grandchildren of Finwë?
I mean, look at this:
Tumblr media
Dead, Good as Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead, Only Alive Because Her Family Had the Presence of Mind to Stop Her, Dead, Dead, Dead, Survived.
Galadriel really was the only one who survived.
And this hits me hard when I think about it.
Because a writer puts a bit of themselves in every character.
The part of Tolkien that I see the most in Galadriel is the part of him that survived the war.
After all, he was part of the Lost Generation. Two of his closest friends—Robert Gilson and Geoffrey Smith—died in the war. Tolkien and Christopher Wiseman were the only two of their fellowship to survive.
Only Galadriel survived.
That was what the Grandchildren of Finwë were. They were the Lost Generation. An entire generation slaughtered.
The regret, the lamentation, the grief. Galadriel knew it well. She lived it because Tolkien lived it.
And I don't know why, but for some reason, this speaks to me louder than any history book ever has.

'I hear thee,' said Fëanor. 'So be it.' But they did not know the meaning that their words would bear.
It is told that even as Fëanor and Fingolfin stood before Manwë there came the mingling of the lights, when both Trees were shining, and the silent city of Valmar was filled with a radiance of silver and gold.

I have a little hc that whenever Fëanor felt distressed or alone he started embroidering a bit just to feel his mother by his side for a short time.

We all know Fëanor as “the guy obsessed with his Silmarils” but it’s quite something to remember that when he first discovered Morgoth had ransacked his house, he wasn’t even thinking about how the Silmarils were most likely stolen. He immediately searched the debris not for the jewels, but for his dad.

The Silmarils
Tumblr media
And the inner fire of the Silmarils Feanor made of the blended light of the Trees of Valinor, which lives in them yet, though the Trees have long withered and shine no more. Therefore even in the darkness of the deepest treasury the Silmarils of their own radiance shone like the stars of Varda; and yet, as were they indeed living things, they rejoiced in light and received it and gave it back in hues more marvellous than before.
I'm so happy with this art, made 2 versions: with and without Morgoth.
