My most recent make is this ancient Minoan ensemble! It consists of a tunic (heanos) worn under a flounced wraparound skirt shaped like a double-bladed axe (labrys). Despite how heavy the linen skirt is, the entire outfit is surprisingly easy to move around in. I even waded into the river to rescue a bee!

So I finally drew that blacksmith Dark Choco thing

For those possibly without context, this is based on the fact that Dark Choco is always at my blacksmith place

I guess with the name it’s sort of a costume? I just wanted to write something there. It’d probably be a Rare costume tbh

I gave him a hair bun because safety in the workplace, he needs to make sure his hair doesn’t catch on fire. I will say he looks so different with his hair up like that. That’s why I gave him that little bit of his hair coming out, so I could have some recognizability in the sketch

I was debating whether or not to give him goggles, but after asking people I realized that whenever they said goggles, I made up excuses to not do it and that I didn’t want to, so I just went with the headband instead

I was struggling with the outfit colors, since I realized I shouldn’t just use a variation of his default colors, or his purple since that doesn’t really evoke blacksmith. But after a while, I had the idea to just color pick from the actual blacksmith place, and I got colors I think I like

I guess the in universe explanation of this would be that after leaving the Cookies of Darkness, he ended up at Avocado’s place, and she lets him stay there and in return he helps out with her blacksmithing business

For the past few months I've been in York at a school for historical costuming! It's incredibly fast-paced but I'm having such a good time. In a 4-month span we're making 3 full clothing ensembles, each from a different era (1880s womenswear, 1830s menswear, and 1970s daywear of choice).

Here is some of the progress on my womenswear look, from undergarment construction toile to the nearly finished piece. It's a polonaise style referenced from a Harper's Bazaar illustration from 1886.

Irida/Kai from Pokémon Legends: Arceus

I made costumes from both Pokémon X and Y and Pokémon Sun and Moon when those games were new, but I skipped out on cosplaying Sword and Shield (and then later Scarlet and Violet). I thought that I might be done cosplaying Pokémon, but Legends: Arceus had characters and a story that I really enjoyed. I got especially attached to Irida, and so it was an easy decision to cosplay her.

I used nylon spandex as the main material for most of the clothes and for the tops and sides of the sandals. The shorts I purchased but tailored myself. The bag and the obi cord are made of cotton. It was certainly not the ideal choice for the cord, but it was fabric that I already owned, and it needed to match the bag. Inside the bag is a big tube that I made out of foam. The obi, cord, bag, and tails all connect in the back with snaps. It's a decent amount of weight and tension concentrated around my lower back, but the rest of the costume is so comfortable that it's not a problem.

I made the bangles, the anklet, and the necklace basically as pillows. They are made from vinyl, sewn together, and stuffed with fiberfill. I painted the designs on them with fabric paint. The pearls are tennis balls that I painted and glued into holes that I left in the vinyl. There is one pearl in each bangle and one in the necklace, and there is also one half-pearl on the back of each sandal.

I had two props for this costume. My Celestica Flute is simply a piece of pvc pipe that I cut to length, cut a hole in the side of, and painted to make matte. My Glaceon is an official plush from Pokémon Center.

The base wig that I used is an Arda Lulu in Ash Blonde. I made the bangs and sides using wefts in Ash Blonde for the darker parts and Titanium Blonde for the lighter parts. Styling the wig was by far the most challenging part of the costume, and I'm proud of the work that I put into it. The tiara on top I simply cut out of foam, painted, and then glued to the wig.

How to put on a Minoan wrap skirt! It's...pretty straightforward. If you can wear a towel, you can wear this! You can just tie the belt without rolling down the top (or just roll without the belt) but I think this gives more security and the added bulk around the hips matches Minoan figurines and makes the waist look smaller proportionally. Most of our remaining frescoes are from Thera and therefore may or may not be representative of how these garments were worn in the rest of the Minoan hegemony.

Eventually I'll put together some more in-depth posts but I do have a full time job so it'll take a little while. I'll be posting another video soon showing my accessorizing!

So I was trying to design an OC earlier but failing miserably since I realized I didn’t know what their basis actually would be, so instead I did another one of these since I had them on hand

This time we have Pastry Cookie, who’s always at the diner place

Admittedly Pastry was far more a struggle than Dark Choco since I’ve never really drawn her. I mean I did that one time but most of her head was obscured, so. But anyways, I think in the end I got something relatively good

The outfit this time had far less colors, but I mean I think it still works. I went with the mindset of color picking the colors from the building again, but for some reason all the colors I’d pick would turn out a lot darker than I’d like, so I ended up brightening them so they’d look better

I wanted to put that jam cheesecake on Pastry’s plate, only to realize that’s from the bakery, not the diner. So she gets the stew I didn’t really know how to draw

I gave the bottom of her dress a gradient to give it some more flair, and also to match the jam on the roof

To be honest I don’t really have a lot to say on her design, I jus think she turned out well

If I were to give an in universe explanation for the design, Pastry ended up leaving the St Pastry Order (she’d probably change her name too but for now we’re still calling her Pastry). I guess she somehow ended up being taken in by a diner owner, and in return she ends up working for them at the restaurant

But anyways yeah, this

Not sure who I’ll do next. Two of the options I have are mermaid Cookies, so I’m not sure how those costumes would work to be honest. Tiger Lily at the flour mill is one option though

Roux Louka from Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ

Roux is a character who I had thought about cosplaying for quite a while, and I even bought the wig a couple of years before I ended up doing it. In 2023, I wanted a costume that I could comfortably wear while driving home from a con, and Roux ended up being perfect for that. Until then, Gundam was probably my favorite long-running anime franchise that I had never cosplayed, so it was cool to finally cover it.

This was a very simple costume that didn't take long for me to construct. I bought the unitard and wore it unaltered aside from sewing a snap to the shoulder to hold up the sash. The rest I made using leftover materials from other projects. The wig is an Arda Venus in Ice Violet that didn't require much styling outside of cutting the bangs. I bought and wore earrings, though they were usually obscured by the hair.
