Chapter 6

Joohyun had no particular expectation of continuing as an idol. She returned home exhausted each evening to a harbour of cramps and aches. While the world was in chaos around her , she walked down the cool toned corridors of the building towards the cafeteria.

She waves up her hand upon catching glimpse of a handsome company of two best friends , the younger sits infront of the older. He wears a pair of the popularised marshall headphones , is a dashing addition to his long black hair down his nape. His small lips raise up as he waves his hand up upon noticing the girl walk towards them.

The older looks at for a moment as she reaches the table and plops down next to the younger.

He contemplates whether he asks her about her performace. he lowers his gaze with a subtle pout wondering if he must ask her. He presumes that she could be upset regrading it.

As an idol and the leader of his own group of five uniquely brought up humans , Soobin could conclude at one glance of her face that his question could cause her to react unusually than he expected. The younger , mischevious motor mouth , Beomgyu volunteers as she turns towards him.

" Crushed it , candy crush? " .

" Crushed it. I made a few mistakes , but alright. ", she answers as she focused on her phone. Her muted sigh makes the leader turn in another question .

" Where is Yeonjun? "

" He's still at the venue , he was upset with his rehearsal so he improvised for the recording..", Joohyun informs as she lowers her phone down in her hand to bat a glance at the two.

" He sounded so upset when called him earlier . Just made me think of how I have never seen him this frustrated in half a decade ", Soobin remarks as he gently cuts through a piece of a cheesecake with a small fork and raises it up to his lips.

" Is that mulberry cheesecake? Let me have some , and he was upset since the morning , wouldn't even look at me ", she complains as she reaches forward for the plate of the sweet , Soobin nods as he lifts the plate towards her . Apart from managing her diabetes , the only delicacy she could eat from the cafeteria was the toned down stevia based glazed mulberry cheesecake with pieces of fruit in it . However the taste of the sweet goes unnoticed on her tongue just as her affection punctured Yeonjun's patience at the venue.

" He must have not had enough sleep last night", Soobin assumed as he watched her . he lowers his head with a sigh.

" He definitely didn't have enough sleep last night ", she replies as she leans foward to rest her head on the table . She closes her eyes for a moment in exhaustion.

She stood under the scorching hot sun. The month of February was the month of selfless young love , red roses crowned the scaling hot roads of Gangnam. she stood with a bouquet of posh white roses , dressed in a long beige winter coat , black inched heels to higher her diminished hope , cat eyed sunglasses and a humble black mask to cover her face. she stood infront of a place where roses never wilted , the mourning house. Fate had landed her on doors of an unfamiliar memory of her life. She was focused on her chasing her dream , but the burden of the reality melts on her skin the sweat that wets her forehead.

Chatters of people decorate the morning house as she walks in holding her long coat on her arm. She feels the cold floor through her stockings on her feet. She searches for a familiar picture as a soft sigh of exhaustion leaves her lips . She raises up her eyes among the rows of photos and flowers wreaths around them , some adorned with trophies and gentle bundle of letters infront of them , but one that was at the center on the fifteenth column from the left. It was five shelves below from the top shelf , it was empty with single picture of a women in it. No flowers bloomed on her shelf.

Joohyun places the flowers on the shelf as she takes step back to glance at her . She removes her sunglasses as she holds it in her clasp before raising her head up firm. her hair was brushed flat on her head , signs of thin brittle hair had a plagued her from the initial experiences of colouring her hair. She places the cap she procured and places it to cover her head. She removes her mask as she sighed.

" Mothers can't stand their daughters when their grow up to become like them . mom , I'm miserable , outlandish and undistinguishable. do you like me now ? " , she refers to her dear mother with a smile on her face. she has no tears to mourn for her loss , but she returns to her mother as a promise for having mercy on her life.

" Diabetes is not a bad gift , I was never compelled to eat sweets to feel repulsed that I now can't . It's rather exhausting while performing . There is a lot of things I still want to do , I want to write a song ".

" Please have mercy on me till then , mom ", she raises up her hands clasped together to her chest as she lowers her head. as usual , a shower of a disappointment washes down her shoulder as she raises up her head again to glance at the photo. her mother remained with a smile , but she ensure that she would protect her.

" Please , Let me live till then , please mom ", she smiles observing her mother's photo , " I'll come visit you.."

From a distance , with impatient steps he walks inside as he whips his head to search for her . Joohyun turns her head towards him upon noticing him , he wears a long black coat as the sun has never whispered to him this year from prolonged practices in air conditioned rooms. he appears tall , he wears a pair of black rimmed glasses and a mask to cover his face and he holds the same bouquet of white roses as she walks towards her as soon as he spots her .

" You're here ".

" Ofcourse I'm here ", Yeonjun reaches forward to wrap his arm around her as he presses her arm in assurance.

" Shelf 15 -5 , I remember it well " , he replies again as he moves forward to place the bouquet of flowers he carried. Joohyun observes him as he places the flowers carefully and positions the photoframe forward.

Joohyun observes him surprised , but at the same time her frustration manifests on her chest , " Why do you act all sweet and then pretend that you don't want to talk to me ?"

" I never said that ", he replies in an instant with his back turned towards her , he lowers his head to adjust the photoframe.

Satisfied he takes a step back as he bends down to look at the frame again, " eommoni ( with respect ) , your daughter is brilliance "

" She is exceptional. outstanding ", he continues with a smile as his tone varies. he chuckles underneath his mask , his smile remains as he takes a step back to clasp his hands together to observe a moment of silence.

Joohyun observes him as he turns towards her. she stood in black turtle neck , sweat puddles down the rim of her cap , he sees a glimpse of her eyes.

" It's the 14th of February , I knew I'd find you here " , he begins as he turns his head to face the photo again.

" It's you mother's anniversary "

" I came here on my own ", he adds as he turns towards her , his voice turns soft.

" You haven't slept through an alarm in weeks , Joohyun "

" and I have to hear that from you? ", she replies frustrated , she feels bitter upon observing his face.

" I'm sorry ", he reaches out for her arms and leans forward for a hug.

" Leave me alone " , she pushes his chest apart , she raises up her head with stagnant tears in her eyes. he nods in denial as he leans forward to place his lips through on her cheek . she closes her eyes for a moment as she places her hand on his shoulder assured once again , but she hesitates as she raises up her head to observe him.

" Why do I have to endure your frustration when you never even let me express what I feel? ", she asks him firm as she moves out his embrace , her eyes swell up with tears .

" I never said that I wouldn't listen ", he replies as he lowers his mask down , he looks at her distressed.

" STOP ", she breathes out as she raises up her hand . " Can you just stop ? "

Her words numb his throat , he lowers his head down as he stands in front of her . She steps forward to walk around him. he senses her pace behind in haste. she leaves without turning back.

a/ n : catch up has so many complex relationship arcs , this is one of my favorites. she mirrors me in my relationships . the amount of unedited mistakes in this chapter the skin around my fingers are peeling.

Harvesting mulberries!!!

There's still quite a lot more mulberries that aren't ripe yet, so I might hold off on using them to make mulberry cheesecake for now 😊😊😊 My mom made a pie the last time, so there's still the unused jam - will try mulberry jam on toast! (Hopefully it won't be too sour! 🤞)

Today ...

I want to wrap up the next chapter of HEA. It’s a little choppy at the moment.

It would be nice to do the same to the chapter after that. I have enough text for a chapter (2k words), but I need some transitions between dialogue blocks.

I’m going out to lunch with my parents. My dad’s birthday was last week and then there was Mother’s Day. None of us are fond of crowds, so we typically observe Mother’s Day the weekend before or after.

Then there’s the berry project. My strawberries are bearing as are the mulberries, plus I’ve bought some strawberries from the store to supplement. I’ve been asked to make scones. My family loves the scones recipe. While I was buying ingredients for that, I saw a bunch of other things I’d like to try, so I bought a pound cake box and angel food box and cheesecake box. These are pretty much boxed cake mixes. I can’t imagine the cheesecake one will be as good as ‘from scratch’, but I thought it would be fun to try. My daughter loves cheesecake and all these things go well with berries. If all goes well, I won’t have any berries leftover to make into jelly, which is fine. I still have a couple gallons of grape jelly from last year.

I’ve already planted the pepper plant and basil I bought yesterday. It would be good to do weeding of my raised beds, but it’s supposed to storm today so most likely I’ll be staying inside.

I want to watch George of the Jungle. I never have. I passed on it in the 90s because the commercials for it showed Tarzan being a clutz and slamming his crotch against a tree. I have a pretty strict rule about not intentionally patronizing anything that gets a laugh out of kicking guys in the nuts. I’ve since learned there’s much more to the movie. Also, the gif sequence of Brenden Frazier running with lovely horses sold me.

I need to cook a soup for next week, but I’ll probably do that tomorrow. My intention is to repeat last week’s recipe without the jalapeno. That turned out to be less of a mistake than I’d expected, but it was still a mistake.
