I don’t think people appreciate the song “Mushnik & Son” enough and it makes me sad :,(

Okay I wrote a huge response to this and my computer just straight up deleted it, but im back and im gonna try again.

Heres my theory on Mushnik & Son. I think the reason its not as popular is simply because most people don't understand it. A huge part of the appeal of the song, arguably its main gimmick, is all the little references and inside jokes for the Jewish audience.

The whole thing is a sort of over-the-top jewish farce (depending somewhat on the production you watch). Dont get me wrong, its a fantastic song on its own. It's cute, It's catchy, it endears us to Seymour and Mushnik while still highlighting their character flaws. But the cultural aspect is really important to understanding the vibe of the song. A lot of it is not even a joke, just hearing words like "boychik" and "mishegoss" made me laugh because I usually only hear them from my grandmother. If you know the kind of music they're referencing, that "I've held pent up in SIII-YAYAYA-YAYAYA-YAAAAIDE" is a very silly joke, and if you don't, well, it's not. Those are a few examples off the top of my head, but I'm sure there are tons of other details in there that I don't even know yet.

And if you think "well it cant have that big of an impact, most people at least get some of the jokes," I need to inform you that at least FOUR of my castmates did not know that Seymour and Mushnik were jewish.

Point being, yeah that song absolutely rocks, it sucks that it doesn't get so much recognition, and I think it's somewhat because of all the references that a large portion of the audience wont get, but then again, it really is such an amazing song on its own that there's no good excuse for how underrated it is.

oh also because its not in the movie so less people know about it. that too. Also because less people are obsessed with Mushnik as much as the others.

I've got some opinions on the little shop of horrors funko collection

Seymour?yes

Audery?yes

Orin?Definitely

Audery 2?yeah obviously

Baby audery?ok..

Chase edition audery 2? I mean it's just audery 2 with blood

Stuffed animal audery 2? I'm ngl it's really ugly (I'd still buy it)

They had so much potential for some cool ideas and here's some I think they should have done.(even though some aren't realistic)

Mushnik: I know he's not everyone's favorite (infact I'd argue he's no one's favorite) but he's still a main character and arguably more so than orin and they have him.

Mushnik and son: on the topic of mushnik how about a little pack with mushnik and Seymour dancing with a little mini shop in the back.(something like this kinda)

Urchins: do you know how sweet it would be to have like a 3 pack with urchins in one of there sweet outfits.

Arthur Denton : bill Murry is pretty popular also it just be cool,like maybe he's holding one of orins stolen tools or something

Orin+ Arthur: how awsome would it be to have Arthur Denton in the dentist chair and orin looming over him doing dentist stuff.

Wedding: audery and Seymour at the end in there Wedding outfits infont of the somewhere that's green house.(I actually have a Keychain kinda like this but they are infront of audery)

A lot of these are really far fetched but still be pretty cool opposed to like 30 audery 2s.

the 1986 lsoh movie is really good, however i’m still pissed off about how they made orin and mushnik’s deaths be accidents in order to make seymour seem more “likable” and removed one of my fav songs from the musical in the process

in the stage musical seymour makes the conscious decision to not help orin remove the mask, because he knows that orin’s a shit person who deserves to die, during which one of the best songs from the musical is sung. in the movie, he doesn’t do anything because “ohhh nooo!!!! this guy is dying and it’s too scary for me and i don’t know what to do!!!!! oh no he’s dead!!!! noooo :(“ like brother you JUST sang “that guy sure looks like plant food to me” do NOT act like you feel bad for him. AND THERES NO ITS JUST THE GAS ARE YOU SHITTING ME

and then with mushnik, in the stage musical seymour makes the conscious decision to lie to mushnik about him hiding the money safe inside audrey II in order to get mushnik to get eaten by audrey II. BUT IN THE MOVIE mushnik’s walking backwards and woopsies!!!! he trips and falls into the plant!!!! clumsy him!!!!!!

the only lsoh death that was MEANT to not be seymour fault was audrey’s death but ohhhh nooooo they just HAD to change it to make him seem more likable

LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS (1986)

I couldn't believe how ridiculous and fun this movie was. It totally threw me for a loop. I was expecting a low-budget film that was the usual plot line for any film of this Era. Boy, was I wrong. Not only is this a musical with super catchy songs, but it throws the usual "protagonist saves the day" trope right out the window. In fact, none of the cast saves the day. The day is not saved at all. The plants take over, and we all die, and that is an ending that is so unusual, and I loved it so much. The was Audrey II moves was very life like to tye point I almost forgot she was just a puppet. The plot was super original, and there were so many funny moments. Not to mention, the 3 black ladies that sing killed it and every preformence and slayed while doing it. Seriously, who is their stylist? I need them in my personal life

so I saw a live production of Little Shop of Horrors a couple weeks ago and I don't know if this happens in all productions but just before Skid Row, Mr Mushnik handed this woman dressed very promiscuously money, she sat outside the florist smoking a cigarette and Audrey went out to hug her, addressing "where the guys are drips, where they rip your slips" to her

and on one hand yay Gutter girls supporting each other but it also makes Mr Mushnik's and Audrey's dynamic so much more interesting because he always believes Audrey should be treated better and while there's no way he could of known about her other job, he still treats other women the way Audrey was treated
