Today is the last day of the year. In preparation for tsagaan sar we make a ongon of Od Ene, the fire mother. On the day of tsagaan sar the fire is put out and a new fire is lit. A fire spirit is asked to inhabit the new fire to grant protection in the new year.

Great Ehlnirdeva of the Ages, archdragon, crimson shore of the High and Mighty Violence whose names are North and South, guiding night of wayfarers, expression of the eternal return and the crown of The Tower hoisted high by love and rancor; born in ruin and amnesia to All by The Unborn God's Reconciliation, when the Celestial He-She tore open Enniceldra, shattered The Obscure Vessel, and laid low the Seven Nations of the First, we know you as the graves of stars, Nemaster and Crimaster, dark harbingers etched into Hierarchy's flesh by Tserenam's precession.

O Ehlnirdeva Anumaster O Chiim Særdai, through your songs, flung to Tserenam by fury, writ in light as dreadful promise, we trace our fates along the wheel and thusly come to know The Tower. Fire gives warmth, cooks food, and keeps away insects. It is indispensable to civilization. So does Od Ene, the mother fire, protect and care for households. But just like fire Od Ene van be fierce and destructive. But even then the remaining ashes return fertility to the earth and the smoke brings offerings to the sky. It is important that we learn to keep the fire in check and not let it burn more than it should.
