I hated s4's "Don't you know Emma. it's you" line... but in hindsight I should've known that's what they were going to do with OC Hook. And I was an idiot for thinking it was a dumb line when in reality it a was a forbearer of what was to come.

This makes me want to cry with how truly (madly?) and deeply I relate to it. I know I was probably squeezing every feel out of that moment at the time, but looking back?

You’ll be surprised to hear that there’s kind of a lot of common fic types that I cannot stand, but if we have to get specific here, I guess I’ll continue our conversation from last night and call out the unnecessarily smutty kind. The kind of multi-chapter smut fic that basically tries to one-up itself for 25+ chapters until finally the characters stare into one another’s eyes in chapter 40 as if they’ve just been re-enacting some kinda fetishistic het porno this whole time.

27 (”Name a type of fic that you wish there was more of.”): More well-written, introspective fic that tries to meet a higher standard. Understand that fic is giving writers the opportunity to understand the original story and characters in a way that just watching doesn’t allow you to do. Y’all are smarter than rom-com tropes. That’s not to say that we don’t want something simple every once in a while, but, really, would some depth kill y’all? Also, bisexual Killian.

14 (”What makes you give up on reading a fic?”): If it’s first person I click right on outta there. If we’re talking CS there’s a few things that have turned me off immediately, namely… making Emma so closed off she’s basically abusive, not allowing Emma to be rough and soft all at the same time, using the same fucking British terminology over and over again because Killian has an English accent and how else would we remember, anything OOC, and honestly, just like, bad writing. Which, generally, you’ll know it when you see it.

Most students say great things - “she’s really knowledgeable about the topic” or “this class was great and I learned a lot”. Some students say critical but fair things like “it took too long to get our exams back” and “the assignment guidelines for X assignment needed more detail” and those hurt a bit to read because I feel guilty, but that’s not hurt that lingers, because I know how to improve on those kinds of things. But the “she’s so lazy” and “this topic is bullshit” and “she doesn’t know how to teach” stuff isn’t stuff I see too often, so it feels like lead in my gut. :/

@mossandmushrooms This might come as a shock to you but mental healthcare professionals are in fact more knowledgeable about mental health issues than you are. I’m telling you this because - brace yourself for it - they support using dark fiction as a coping mechanism and will tell you it’s perfectly healthy. It’s a safe way to explore your trauma.

On top of that, fictional content like this is hardly ever used to groom others, as in it’s incredibly rare. It’s also not the fault of content creators and fans what sick fucks do to people. That’s like blaming heavy metal music and violent video games for school shootings which is obviously ridiculous. Fiction doesn’t affect reality like this unless the individual is already disturbed and the chances are high they’d have done whatever they do with or without the content in question. For hell’s sake, someone committed murder because they said The Beatles song “Helter Skelter” told them to which is clearly not the case.
