I know a bunch of followers of mine know of my love of Moray. Maybe irrationally but she's a hunk of clay and I'm making my own shit up with her. Between the glow up design from the graphic novels to the ambiguity of her character whether or not she's faking her love for Coral endears me.
Like!!! Is this a response to trauma to what happened with Orca? When her daughter had died by her claws she rose the tides with her tears and mourned her for years, but couldn't care less about whatever happened to her sons let alone her niece. Hell if she did challenge Coral she wouldn't gain the same reverence as her cousin, she would die a miserable death and be forgotten about it worse have her grave be spat upon by everyone she knew. Always the next subject on the chopping block because Coral wanted daughters, not a niece. trying to be useful so she wouldn't lose her head. She - coral - could care less what happens to the rest of her family, nothing is stopping coral from outright killing her and no one would even blink or shed a tear
This whole facade, this whole image, this whole idea of Moray was developed in response to remain alive. She worships the sand for which the frog fish walks to ensure it will never stab her. She makes poems and sings praises as a desperate cry for help to the whales who listen. She isn't her cousin. She isn't orca.
She isn't daughter to the queen. She is expendable. She is a spare. She isn't important. She isn't even remembered by the community or world. She never comes back up in a different book. But what if she's doing all she can to remain alive and memorable in a society who punishes her for being anything but obedient.

Let's talk about Moray! Moray is uninteresting in Canon, but I know she really is an interesting character if you look deep down enough, and it's because of this.
"He's lucky he's my brother and your father Moray, so I let him live," so here we see that Coral would’ve killed Shark if it wasn't for Moray (and the fact that she's Shark brother) this implies that Moray does care about Shark enough that it upset her if Shark died. Additionally, have you noticed that Moray's mother is never mentioned? I think it's because she died, how exactly? Well, I believe it's because of Coral. Perhaps when Orca's statue started killing heirs, Moray's mother offered to be a nursery guard? Who could be better than the sister in law of the queen? So Moray's mom was allowed to be the nursery guard, but Coral being Coral wouldn't allow her to eat or sleep and try as Moray's mother might she fell asleep, and Orca's statue smashed the eggs. Coral was enraged so enraged that she executed her violently, Moray and Shark were heartbroken. Moray couldn't believe that her aunt killed her mother. She couldn't. Her aunt wasn't evil, right? But at the same time, Moray knew she had to protect her father, so she tried anything, and she found that when she was agreeable and boring Coral would listen to her and she begrudgingly agreed to not harm Shark.
For years, Moray never got over her mother's death she would tell herself that was impossible and her mom swam into a death trap. When anemone hatched it hurt her, it made her realize the eggs weren't destined to die. Her mother could've still been alive. Her mother could have succeeded in protecting the eggs, and since she couldn't bring herself to blame Coral, she blamed Anemone for everything.
This is why I think Moray is the way she is

Don’t you just love it when your transphobic dickass aunt gets killed by her daughter/disease/other unforeseen circumstances and your the only heir because the only other heir old enough/not the murderer is away teaching kids on a different continent and then you also have to take care of her kids who are basically toddlers

Moray the Seawing
(Based on Green Morays and Dragon Morays)

Don't really have much to say about him 🤷 He's kind of cool. Also kind of a jerk, but I've always liked his design. I think it's interesting how he's described as having no scars, implying that he's untouchable in battle or something.

[Wings of Fire] Trans Headcanons
Hello! Something different today. I missed trans day of visibility yesterday due to being away at a conference but I wanted to still make a post with some trans headcanons for Wings of Fire characters since I have lots of them.
These are just my own headcanons and some are different than other people's so please don't get super defensive over these, they're just fun for me to make and everyone can believe what they want to believe.
And yes, it is a lot of characters. A while ago I decided that I would headcanon every WoF character to be LGBTQ+ in some compacity and recently I went back and gave many more of them trans headcanons.
