Since the creation of the band in 2005 by Patrick Martin and Maxime Cormier, Reanimator dug an important place in the Quebec Metal scene. Offering an incendiary Thrash Metal dotted with old-school and new school element, these guys are ready to kick some asses. With their first album ''Thrashin' The Neighborhood’’ on Galy Records in 2007 the group established venomous stage appearances, which left no fan indifferent. Touring Quebec, Ontario, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, they finally came up with their first full length album called ''Ignorance Is No Excuse'' in 2009, which will let them perform next to bands like Municipal Waste, Exodus, Martyr, Quo Vadis, Cauldron, Aggressor, Brutal Truth, Macabre, Neuraxis, Augury, Soothsayer, Cryptopsy etc.. After nearly an hundred shows, the band split in 2011... to finally come back in force in 2013 with a new line-up and a new EP entitled ''Great Balls''. That new formation is now formed by Patrick Martin (vocals) and Francis Labelle (drums), both original members of the band. With the addition of the frenetic playing of Fred Bizier on bass and the furious energy of Joel Racine and Ludovic Bastien shredding the guitars, Reanimator became stronger than ever and crossed the ocean to tour Eastern Europe in May 2014 to reach tons of new fans. A couple of months later Reanimator went to into the Studio with Jef Fortin to record their new LP "Horns Up" which will be released in June 2015. "Horns Up" got a lot of praising reviews and lot of airplay in independent radios around Canada and USA After years of touring and a global pandemic, the boys are back with a new album featuring Philippe Lemire on guitars.

Mama’s Got Your Back, Montreal Music Scene

I’ve written about this before.

There’s no community on the Montreal music scene. If you can find a band out there that’s got your back, you better stay good friends forever. Nobody’s got anybody’s back, really, lemme tell you that.

Too many divas and too much drama, and that’s why when you look at it from a bit of an angle, you can see it steadily going down. It’s like nobody cares about keeping, nourishing and nurturing a Montreal Music Scene. 

No One Cares. Kinda. I mean some people care. But like. No one really cares. Everybody cares about their own selves and their own bands and their own stuff, and I mean yes of course like, love yourself first and all, but wouldn’t it be awesome if we actually could be a community? If we actually could showcase the Montreal Music Scene in a show, and have a punk band and a rock band and a rap band and a folk band and it’s The Montreal Music Scene?

I look at lineups out there, and they’re getting stale. Every band’s got the same logo, like, depending on the genre -you can tell a pop band’s a pop band and you can tell a metal band’s a metal band based on their logo and the venue they play at, and you can almost even tell what they sound like, and by the time you’ve finished reading the info on the fb event page you get bored and choose to stay at home because Internet -and the weather’s horrible anyway.

And then venues are shutting down, mostly because unhip people want to live in hip places (Hey let’s move to an apartment in the middle of the Plateau but complain to the city and every possible authority out there to get the bar we moved next to that’s been around for ages to shut down because they make way too much noise for a core-of-the-hip-strip-downtown-venue), and it’s not like new venues are replacing them, and besides it costs $300.00 minimum to play anywhere these days so what are our options now. 

Idk.  Actually, I DO know. Actually, there’s something I’ve been meaning to do ever since I was in the studio to record Crowder’s End. I was telling myself this and that, like Oh, I’ll do this once I’ve done this and that, but now it seems like there’s no more this and that, and it’s like a community is begging for itself to be created, and nourished. I definitely have to stop complaining that there’s no community, and I definitely have to do everything  that’s gotta get done to create the Montreal Music Community I Want. The Montreal Music Community I’ve always wanted to see out there. I Montreal Music Community I’ve always wanted to be a part of.

I’m not saying you’ll see results tomorrow, but I’m definitely saying I’m starting this today. I’ve got my own production company, and my own record label (FSL Productions), and it would be super awesome of me that I stopped keeping it to myself.

Having uploaded a number of the B E- INDOORS interviews, it seems that this music edition series has caught the eye of some people, and one of them being Montreal based DIY dream pop act - Lizzy & the Fanatics . Via Instagram, B E W Y L D had this new follower, and after some email exchanges, it was decided that why not ask a few questions. 

B E - What’s your experience with being indoors - so far?

I tend to be my best self when I have time to work alone on various creative projects. I've been writing songs, drawing, editing videos and going on photo walks through alleyways. Also, I've been talking to friends and family a lot more than before actually because I'm more intentional about it and I've become closer to my cat haha. So yeah I'm ok but concerned for some friends who are having a rough time now.

B E - You have a single titled 'Far Away', how far away do you feel now during this time?

Yeah, it's funny because I released that song this winter before all of this, it's about feeling physically distant on the internet. My friend Amelie, who plays keys with me, pointed out how relevant it is now. I hadn't noticed I guess because I'm so used to connecting with others online. The longer this social distancing goes though, the more I miss it. The physicality of friendship, how all of our senses are engaged in our interactions with others.

B E - Any podcasts, movies, TV series, books you have seen, read, listened to and suggest?

Answering this question I realize how I haven't really watched any TV series lately (apart from Tiger King but does that even count? ) I think it's because I've been too distracted by TikTok.

I have been watching movies though. About a year ago, I started a 90s film club with my friends. It sounds so pretentious but we just watch nostalgic cute 90s movies together (only in chronological order haha). Since we've all been in confinement, we stream them together on zoom and it has been so much fun to connect that way. We vote online every week for the movie we will watch. Last week we did 1993 with Dazed and Confused and this week we did 1994 with Speed which was an epic distraction from all that's happening.

B E - Are you working on new music at the moment?

Yes, every day I've been writing and or recording stuff. I arrange and produce everything myself, it can be pretty time consuming so it's nice to have more time for that.

B E - Do you have any message you want to pass on to creatives/musicians out there finding it hard to cope during this strange time?

There is so much creativity happening at this time which is amazing but also, I know it can be really tough to be creative if we are feeling depressed because of the times. Sadness and melancholy can be channeled into creativity but when I feel depressed,  it can be hard to do just about anything.  I think we have to give ourselves space, it's ok to do nothing. Actually, if there is one thing I want to learn from this confinement is being good at doing nothing.
