Hi, I am sorry to bother you I am horrible at understanding how Sims forum works, wasnt able to read your comment on my comment. Ive noticed that CC stereos are broken with infant patch - sim cant listen to the music. Have you noticed this anomaly as well ?
Thank you for yor help.
Kasia
Hi! I haven’t seen any such report at all. Test with nothing else in your Mods folder except *one* CC stereo, after deleting the localthumbcache file. You might have some sort of conflict going on, a broken music-related mod that’s affecting stereos, or one broken CC item that’s affecting others. If you’re still stuck, try going to the Deaderpool or Sims After Dark Discord server for support. Tell theme everything you’ve tried.

PEARLESCENT HELMSMEN
Character List
Decade Onan: Onan is arguably the most level headed of the group, preferring to devise strategies besides combat to protect what remains of the Towers and of Sotha Sil. Onan has an interest in organics and will eagerly poke and prod any that come his way - granted that he has their permission of course. The others claim Onan intends to learn how to grow new life.
Year Aroban: Aroban talks more to his tools than to anyone else. He is willing to improve and modify the Clockwork King's designs and enjoys doing so, and in fact he's modified himself so extensively that any more and he'd become Broken. Aroban has always been curious how the surface worlders live without so many glorious gizmos, and if given the chance he will analyze every piece of something, then devise ways to improve it. He's also a great musician, but he will not say it.
Century Favlan: Favlan, being the most accustomed to working on a Chronographer station, assumed the role of Century. He has less augmentations than most of his team, but this does not bother him. Favlan is more comfortable giving orders than acting on them, though he will if needed.
Minute Ehn: The newest recruit to the team, Ehn considers himself a gunslinger. He is far more energetic than the others, always ready to get into the action, though this has been to his dismay many times before. Ehn’s skill in ranged weaponry is unmatched, and he and Aroban usually are thinking up ways to improve the harquebus.
Kasia: The resident Intelligence. She is the most intelligent, but she is also more difficult to understand at times.
Setting Info
Pearlescent Helmsmen is set in the early 4th Era, about three decades after the Oblivion Crisis (and almost four decades after the Nerevarine entered the Clockwork City). The main setting here is Sotha Sil Outpost 37-hefhed, a small Chronographer station situated far, far below the surface beneath the Velothi mountains. The station can take transmissions from the surface and from other realms by use of an inquiry tree (think of it like they have an internet connection). The lore for this setting is largely taken from and inspired by Wheels of Lull and Sotha Sil Expanded, mods for Skyrim and Morrowind respectively, and this blog disregards (most) ESO Sothalore in favor of the prior two sources. If an rp takes place outside of the outpost, it is mentioned; otherwise, assume everything takes place here.

They love him too, he’s a strong lad! Eats his plate empty and offers to help with the dishes, so polite! And Kasia’s mom has always held Kasia to higher standards than any of their friends so no fear of judgement from their  kid’s future babushka. Kasia’s dad is also very dad’ly and likes Bailey knows his way with tools and such. The body mods don’t bother them anymore since Kasia shocked them into acceptance.
They will absolutely overfeed him and welcome him into the family, Heather as well when they meet

Declensions in Polish
There are seven cases of noun and adjective declension in Polish.  (Include basic info about declension)
Nominative - mianownik
Use basic, unmarked, dictionary forms
Indicates the subject of a sentence
Gosia pisze książkę. - Gosia is writing a book. (Gosia in nominative because she is the subject of the sentence)
Used for most lone adjectives and sentences of the type "To jest X".
Piotr jest przystojny. - Piotr is handsome. (przystojny is in the nominative)
To jest moja żona. - This is my wife. (moja żona is in the nominative)
Genitive - dopełniacz
Used to indicate possession. Often corresponds to English ‘s or of:
Adam widzi kota Agnieszki - Adam sees Agnieszka's cat (Agnieszka in genitive)
Kot Piotra pije mleko - Piotr's cat drinks milk (Piotr in genitive)
Used with units or amounts:
puszka piwa - a can of beer (Beer in genitive)
Used after certain prepositions such as dla, do, od
Used for the direct object in a negative sentence (only if the positive sentence would use the accusative!)
Kot pije mleko - The cat drinks milk. (Milk in the accusative)
Kot nie pije mleka - The cat doesn't drink milk. (Milk in genitive)
Agnieszka jest dziewczyną - Agnieszka is a girl. (Girl in instrumental)
Adam nie jest dziewczyną - Adam is not a girl. (Girl remains in the instrumental)
Agnieszka daje kotu mleko - Agnieszka gives milk to the cat (Milk in the accusative, cat in the dative)
Agnieszka nie daje kotu mleka - Agnieszka doesn't give milk to the cat (Milk is now in the genitive, cat still in the dative).
Dative - celownik
Indicates the indirect object. To whom something is given, or action for somebody:
Basia daje kotu mleko - Basia gives milk to the cat. (Cat is in the dative.)
Znajdę Ci dom. - I'll find you a house (for you).
After certain verbs, like dziękować komuś (to thank someone), pomóc komuś (to help someone), wierzyć komuś (to believe someone)
expressions of the type:
Jest mi zimno - I'm cold
Jest nam smutno - We're feeling sad
Będzie wam trudniej... - It will be more difficult for you guys...
Śniło jej się, że... - She dreamt that...
when something is taken away or something befalls someone
Zdechł im pies - Their dog died
Wzięli mi komputer - They took away my computer
Zgasła mojemu sąsiadowi nadzieja - My neighbor's hopes were extinguished.
Accusative - biernik
Indicates the direct object of the sentence
Piotr kocha Kasię. - Piotr loves Kasia.
Bożena śpiewa piosenkę. - Bożena is singing a song.
Used with some prepositions to indicate a motion/change (Note that the same preposition + locative or, more rarely the instrumental, indicates a state/condition )
"na stole" - on the table (a state/condition, so you need to use the locative)
"na stół" - onto the table (motion, so accusative)
"na poczcie" - at the post office (state/condition so locative)
"na pocztę" - to the post office (motion so accusative)
"pod stołem" - under the table (a state/condition, pod is one of those prepostions which take the instrumental, not the locative)
"pod stół" - towards and under the table (motion so accusative)
Exception: The preposition "w" (in) takes the locative when indicating a state/condition, but to imply change you must use the preposition "do" + genitive.
"Jestem w sklepie" (I am in the shop), but "Idę do sklepu" (I am going to the shop) instead of "Idę w sklep".
Instrumental - narzędnik
Indicates the tool or means
Basia jedzie samochodem - Basia is driving a car. (The car is the tool or means so it needs to be in the instrumental)
A few prepositions, like "z" ("with") or "za":
Adam jest z Basią - Adam is with Basia (May either mean "in this moment", or more permanently, for example as boy- and girlfriend.)
With certain verbs "być" (to be), "zostać" (to become), "interesować się czymś/kimś" (to be interested in something):
Basia jest dziewczyną - Basia is a girl.
Adam jest chłopakiem - Adam is a boy.
Marzena interesuje się modą - Marzena is interested in fashion.
Piotr jest przystojnym chłopakiem. - Piotr is a handsome guy.
Exceptions: Most lone adjectives and "To jest X".
Piotr jest przystojny. - Piotr is handsome. (przystojny is in the nominative)
To jest moja żona. - This is my wife. (moja żona is in the nominative)
Locative - miejscownik
Never used alone, only in connection with certain prepositions, like "w" (in) and "o" (about).
Chłopak myśli o dziewczynie - The boy is thinking about the girl.
Adam jest w banku. - Adam is in the bank.
Vocative - wołacz
Used to address someone directly
Often replaced by the nominative in colloquial language, however the vocative remains common in the following situations:
To address someone in a rude or offensive manner (A phrase like ty kretynie! ("you cretin!") or ty idioto ("you idiot!") can only be expressed in the vocative, never in the nominative).
In formal situations, Panie Kazimierzu, niech pan przyniesie te klucze.
In affectionate contexts, such as Kocham Cię Krzysiu! ("I love you, Chris!")
Only masculine and feminine singulars have a separate form.

‘The Gilded Age’ Season 2 Behind the Scenes: How Fashion Defines Each Character (PHOTOS)
by Kelli Boyle
Tumblr media
Julian Fellowes, the creator of Downton Abbey (2011-2016) [mod note: on PBS in the US], set that upstairs-downstairs series at a palatial British estate on the eve of World War I. He moved his newest costume drama Stateside to the streets of New York City. Set in the late 1800s, The Gilded Age, which has its second-season premiere on Sunday, October 29 on HBO (streaming on Max), pits the new money of railroad barons against the old money of New York society. The powerful fight for control of the city and use their wealth to measure social success. And dressing for success was its own full-time occupation.
When researching women’s fashion in 1800s New York, the show’s costume designer Kasia Walicka-Maimone saw one thing clearly: “Their life was a catwalk. There was this enormous excitement” when the ladies trekked the bustling, dusty streets of Manhattan. Her job was to recreate that excitement for contemporary viewers of The Gilded Age.
Fashion as a Sign of Status
Who’s doing all this promenading? Marian Brook (Louisa Jacobson) arrived in NYC with no money and was taken in by her aunts Ada (Cynthia Nixon) and Agnes (Christine Baranski), both living off an inheritance. Then the newly affluent Russells—headed by railroad baron George (Morgan Spector) and wife Bertha (Carrie Coon), who is determined to break into polite society—moved in across the street.

The frill thrills continue in Season 2, especially in a pivotal garden party scene (pictured below) that TV Insider observed being filmed in September 2022 at New York’s lavish Old Westbury Gardens estate. (Westbury House was previously home to an heir of the Phipps family, real-life Gilded Age figures whose patriarch made his fortune alongside Andrew Carnegie at his steel company.) On set was Fellowes, whose smart black suit and tie were the only dark hues around.

Historically Accurate Costumes
It’s a testament to the wardrobe department that the stunning colors of the sprawling grounds nearly pale in comparison to the vibrancy of the women’s period garb. Despite the sepia-toned images in history books, Walicka-Maimone says, those bright tints are decidedly historically accurate. She has a library of more than 35,000 reference images to prove it.
“It’s shocking to our modern eye to see the explosion of color from that period,” she said. Production designer Bob Shaw (who won an Emmy for his work on Gilded Age) was present to share his creative process, which, just as Walicka-Maimone described of her own work, is “deeply steeped in history.”
Tumblr media
Nicole Brydon Bloom joins the cast for Season 2, pictured here at the garden party with Blake Ritson’s Oscar van Rhijn (Credit: Barbara Nitke/HBO)
He does note that, when deciding between “what is correct and what feels correct,” the latter always wins. Creative liberties are taken to “build [character] histories into the costumes,” Walicka-Maimone added.
A Garden Party to Remember
Take Brit newcomers Dashiell Montgomery (David Furr) and his daughter, Frances (Matilda Lawler), for example. Nephew by marriage to Baranski’s Agnes, Dashiell requires more “toned-down” attire suitable for social outings, which contrasts with Season 1’s primarily business and formal menswear.
Tumblr media
Aurora Fane (Kelli O’Hara) and husband Charles Fane (Ward Horton) attend the garden party in ‘The Gilded Age’ Season 2 (Credit: Barbara Nitke/HBO)
Dashiell must escort Frances through society in his late wife’s absence. One consideration for Walicka-Maimone: “This is a girl who doesn’t have a mother, so there’s probably extra care from all the other family members in [dressing her],” she said.
Meanwhile, Marian, who Jacobson said is “shining this season and sees herself in [younger] Frances,” will be more open to a strategic marriage. Marian’s “not necessarily cynical” after being jilted by Tom Raikes (Thomas Cocquerel) in last season’s finale, the actress continued, but the heartbreak gives her a “spice and edge.”
Don’t count out the possibility of a romance with Larry Russell (Harry Richardson), son of the railroad titan, which was teased last year. Jacobson shared: “They will definitely continue to deepen their friendship.” Old money and new money unite!

Review: Maids II Deception
I completely and totally uninstalled Maids II, simply because once you get past the death of Kasia (basically the main character) the story's pointless.
Too much exposition, too much conversation, a great guide for TV Tropes (including sexy killers, nerfed character -in that your character is captured at one point and has an amulet placed on you that strips you of spells, shouts and perk abilities-, dangerous nympho, damsel in distress, the secret war -because for some reason the plot of Maids II is far worse than Alduin or Miraak or even the Volkahar vampires-, there can be only one, against impossible odds, and others), a disconnect from what we would see as risk-reward (sometimes the risk is not even there and we're awarded with 50,000 septims, other times we're facing impossible odds and we're given 2500 septims),  the Golden Maidens (the sexy killers) are practically one dimensional, and there's no options to convince people to join your side.
Also, many of the names feel like they were ripped right from Resident Evil.  The main bad guy organization is called -get this, in a high fantasy setting no less- Project Purity.  Meanwhile, the other organization which I dare say isn't the good guys, is called Serenity's Sirens.
It's made perfectly clear that the Golden Maidens are well trained killers, infiltrators, manipulators and all around love sex.  All but one, Xara who is the newest member.  Xara is very standoffish and hesitant when it comes to both killing and sex.  But no option is given to try to get her out of the Golden Maidens.  By the time you have to fight the Golden Maidens, Xara is one of the members you have to kill, not being given a chance to get her out.
There's also a Dunmer woman who you have to make the choice of leaving at a checkpoint or taking with you.  If you leave her at the checkpoint, she's the only survivor of an attack and due to the fact she was already mourning a massive attack and slaughter of Serenity's Sirens sisters at Fort Pazarath, this attack drives her insane (there's another trope).  She eventually gets killed wanting revenge when she's sent out with the player character to infiltrate and gather information about the movements of the Heroes of Nirn (merc organization hired by Project Purity).  If you take her with you, she reveals she wants to leave the Sirens and join the College of Winterhold.  There's a really good chance if you've gone through the College quest line and that you've become the Arch Mage, she'll be excited to learn this and look forward to joining the College.  Which never happens because she's still sent out on the aforementioned mission and killed.
The Dunmer woman and Xara are just two of a small handfull of characters that were treated very poorly.  These were the interesting characters of a sea of one dimensional characters. The only one that really has potential outside of those ones who doesn't get killed off is Freya.  Who is just... she has a very demented view of things.  She flirts with your character, and if you flirt back there's a good chance you and Freya could end up in bed together at some point (which is fine, apparently, because the one character that the mod was promoed as having a massive romance with was Kasia and she ends up dead at the end of Act 3).There's also a massive disconnect in the economy created in this Maids II world and the rest of Skyrim.
I already explained that many of the quest rewards are in the thousands of gold.  One can only assume your given that so you can turn around and use it in the brothel (oh, yeah, the Euphoria Palace is a brothel which is just a front for a highly trained military force in the middle of Skyrim that for some reason the Stormcloaks, Imperials and Thalmor just ignore).  One night with a lady of the evening in Euphoria Palace costs at least 4500 septims.Conversely, the Flower Girls mod adds prostitutes to the major holds around Skyrim.  All of whom only charge 25 septims.Granted, those prostitutes don't have a fancy room, a brothel mistress, guards or any of those.  But still, that's a huge leap.
As far as the game mechanics go, there's too many times when control of your own character is just taken away from you.  And it isn't in a cutscene which I could be okay with.  It's just taken away for more exposition. The new zones that mod created as well are far too big.  They don't need to be that big.And there's several areas that were made which are never used.  And the number of load times in order to complete a mission and receive the quest reward is ridiculous.
Example, finishing the quest Escort mission, you have to go to Markarth (one load), go into the Temple of Dibella (second load), go back outside and patrol the city (third load), get knocked on the head and taken captive where you awaken on a ship (fourth load), then go back to Skyrim proper just south of Dawnstar (fifth load) and travel to a location just south of Morthal, which forces a load (we're onto six now), then you have to return to Euphoria palace (which would be a seventh load by fast travel or you could run all the way there... did I mention the Palace is south of Riften, so it's on the other side of the map from this quest location), enter the palace (seven or eight), go into the lower dorms (eight or nine), go into the basement (nine or ten), go into the dining room (ten or eleven), and finally go into Matari's Mediation Chamber (eleven or twelve).
This could have been cut down a lot by making cells smaller and joining certain cells.  As an example, the main lobby of the palace could have been smaller and the two pubs connected to the lobbies could have just been doors that close behind you once you enter (one of the two pubs you never go into at all during the entire mod, so you could just have one pub).  The basement area, which connects to the Grotto, the dining hall (and Matari's chamber), the armory and the catacombs could be cut down as well.  The basement itself serves zero purpose save for a place to load into.  The Grotto is an exterior area, so it would have to be it's own cell, as with the catacombs as it has it's own textures (using assetts from the Nord Ruins).  But the basement, armory, dining hall and Matari's chamber could all be one cell without any loading whatsoever.
This is constant throughout the entire mod, as most areas you go into are way too huge.  The town of Jonestead, for example is an underground town built into a mountain.  There's about ten buildings in there which includes home for orcs, warehouse, watchtower (really, you need a watchtower in an underground cavern?!?), town hall, home for bretons, home for Khajiit, home for dunmer, home for Redguards, home that really has no purpose and the Pinder home. The Pinder home is the one you interact with the most.  At one point, you have to liberate the town and by doing so enter every home, defeat the two guards and rescue the one captive there.
This could have been done way easier by just having a small group with everyone in the town held captive in the town hall.  That way, instead of being disconnected from the story with constant loads (one load for entering and one load for exiting), you have one load into the town hall, an epic fight with the mercs, and rescuing the captives, then moving onto the Pinder home to rescue Marcus.
Finally, onto one gripe I have with this mod that centres around the main promo, which is the romance of Kasia Pinder.  The mod author has made it nearly impossible to romance Kasia.  This goes back to the risk reward kind of thing, but you're never given a clear view of what would work for a good romance option.  While Friendship Points (really? Friendship Points?) are handed out without really doing or saying anything, Romance Points (see previous) are given sporadically.  What would have been better (if you were really married to using a points system instead of just using a system similar to what Flower Girls uses) is allowing some options to give 1 RP others to give 2 RP and if you say something wrong, you lose 1 RP.  But no, you're just given 1 RP no matter what if you say the right thing, but say the wrong thing and you lose 10 RP in one shot.
The final word, it's a mod that has a lot of potential but misses the mark on a lot of things.  From grandiose exposition, too hours of conversation (which was way too much), to the over use of stereotypes and the janky game mechanics, it really hurt the enjoyment of the mod.  If people are looking for a good quest mod, I'd suggest the really well done and sort of lore friendly Clockwork which has both an LE and SE download at Nexus.  Another that's really good is an LE download based entirely on Terry Pratchet's Discworld.  It is a monumental mod that covers everything from Going Postal to many of Pratchet's well known works.
Ultimately, Maids II Deception was a sex mod that had a massive adventure that came with it.  And if you really want that, just get Caesia as a follower and the Flower Girls patch, and just go adventuring.  Or Seductress Faye, a follower built for Flower Girls.  Those two follower mods would work better than Maids II tried to do.

Are you looking for anything specific from the portfolios? For example, is it okay if some of the pieces aren't from the specific series we're applying for, or should we curate it to focus only on those? I ask because I have at least one finished piece from another zine in an unrelated fandom, and I wasn't sure if I should include it or just magical girl stuff.
Hello!
Thanks for asking.
We’ve answered this in the past but it’s always good to have a refresher!
The mods (Kasia and myself) are less interested in subject matter and more interested in the following:
Completed work! Sketches are awesome, I love sketches! But they don’t belong in a fanbook. Work needs to be cleaned, and completed.
If it’s traditional a nice scan or a full page photo is a must. We’ve featured traditional artists before (including people who do paper craft and textile art) and love including them, but if you do traditional art the pieces need to be photographed well or scanned. We need to be able to see that you can fit the templates provided.
Interesting/full composition You don’t need to be the master of detailed environmental backgrounds, but your work should feature something beyond plain colour background. Additionally you could be the BEST ARTIST IN THE WORLD but if all your compositions boil down to “3/4 view character with plain background”, then it get’s a bit boring. We don’t require full body pieces, there are plenty of interesting portrait artists out there. Variation in a portfolio always a plus.
Unique Styles This one is the most ambiguous, but we try super hard not to chose artists that all look the same. We love showcasing a variety of work and styles. As long as your style is your own it’s unique!
Working links This should be obvious but it happens! People make mistakes and don’t send working links. I hate disqualifying people who’s work I can’t even see because the portfolio link is busted :(
I hope this helps! Good luck!

Getting votes from your neighbours is a sure way to get your song disgraced but when Sweden gets 12 points from Norway, it's clearly just good taste || HSWW

Title: from the opening revue during Semi-Final 2 of Eurovision 2016 Stockholm, performed by Petra Mede and Måns Zelmerlöw (I was gonna use the line "at the eurovision family we do it glitz and glamourly", but I went with the points things as a subtle ref to one of Svea bff's, aka Syn Lothbrok who is from Norway, and belongs to ze lovely @.ghostpastey. Also, also, just as an fyi and some context, 12 points is the max amount of points any country can give to another in the contest)
Me: I need to cut down on all the Eurovision songs in her playlist. Also Me: *adds 40 more esc songs to her playlist and recommends esc songs for my friend's oc's* Me: I can't help it, it helped to sure up a post-war europe, it's a big black hole sucking in all the stars. we'll take over the world and conquer mars ! and I'll stop now.
I did not expect a Harry Potter oc battle group to result in so many new Eurovision friends, but whatever, I'm pleased. The Glitter Club always needs more members! XXXDDD
(March 2, 2018): FINALLY DONE!! No lie, I've been working on this playlist since I first auditioned. At least I cut it down to 84 songs. I had around 200 at one point.

Vokes & Peters, Subiaco House
This new build by Vokes & Peters is designed around a set of contained but interconnected rooms, that are situated around a generous courtyard garden. The property sits on the edge of the corner block, and offers a private open space, that is both linked to the street as well as the secluded sections of the home. The planning controls that encourage single storey builds were accommodated through the use of tile cladding, so the home appears context appropriate with its local neighbours.

A one-bedroom weatherboard home is transformed by Madeleine Blachfield Architects into a generous home for a couple in NSW. The open and flowing main-home has a ‘downplayed’ delineation between zones, and performs as a unified space for the owners. A sky-lit entrance welcomes visitors into the house, and vaulted timber ceilings fold out the the horizon and frame the ocean and mountain views. From the street, this home resembles a conventional weatherboard, but from inside, it is a serene retreat.
Edition Office, Point Lonsdale House
The Point Lonsdale House by Edition Office takes design cues from the coastal town where it is situated. The architects have orchestrated a series of outdoor living spaces and indoor resting spaces in this generous design. Enter through an undercroft to the first pavilion, into the private courtyards and bedrooms that look out to their own private gardens. The home is designed to ‘expand and contract’ to facilitate different modes of living. The long narrow site has been cleverly converted into a generous home of outdoor connection as well as indoor nooks.

Two generations are catered for in this home of arcades by Partners Hill with Hogg and Lamb, that shows that multi-use dwellings can be beautiful, practical and sustainable. This residence in Mermaid Beach, Queensland demonstrates how a single structure can accommodate multiple living styles. This project is both a highly resolved home, and a research project into the possibilities for new modes of living that reflect contemporary lives.

  Splinter Society Architecture, Cornerstone House
The black exterior of this Splinter Society home makes an arresting silhouette on the streetscape, while retaining an appropriate form for the suburban context. The high-tech clients wished to combine all of the mod-cons without compromising a homely and comfortable feeling – and the architects responded with a design of glamour and cosiness. Without artworks and collections of possessions to display, this home is designed to speak for itself. The rugged stonework sits against refined black steel cladding and timber slats, in a gentle balance between dark/light, rugged/refined, art/architecture.
 Tribe Studio, House in Darlinghurst
A small electrical substation in Sydney’s Darlinghusrt is transformed by Tribe Studio into a three-bedroom home with a rooftop terrace and swimming pool. The 50sqm site has required innovative design to facilitate the multi-level home, including a sliver staircase that runs through the residence. The architects have celebrated the ‘bricky-ness’ of the building, and extended this form with Venetian glass bricks to create a light counterpoint that glows at night, celebrating the electrical heritage of the substation.

Edition Office, Hawthorn House
The Hawthorn House by Edition Office makes a bold statement with the arresting concrete and glass exterior, that captures a sense of both stability and lightness. The home was designed to be both private and open, with the capacity to serve family needs as they shift over a lifetime. The concrete shell creates a feeling of sanctuary and protection, while the glass windows create a connection with the large terrace space, an ‘outdoor theatre for living’. The materiality of the striking concrete shrouds are reflected in the interiors, with restrained palette of brass, timber and concrete all designed to patina with age. See more of this home in our recent feature here!
Archer Office, Camperdown Warehouse
A concrete factory building is converted by Archer Office into a generous apartment for two, with room to accommodate guests and a home office. The 1926 building previously housed a car production line, and the architects have continued this narrative by composing an apartment ‘like a series of stacked streets.’ Archer Office designed a flexible space that can shift to accommodate changing requirements of the clients, and encourages a high-density residential typology. The raw materials of the building are echoed in a refined form in the resolved apartment, where steel and concrete shine.

This refined late 60s home is updated by MRTN Architects with a new pavilion for eating, living and cooking. The renovation on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula continues the Small Homes Service design spirit of the original residence, and retains the idea of the ceiling being the main feature of the space. A baffle ceiling structure of hardwood gum-lam rafters informs the plan, and honours the Japanese inspired light spaciousness of the original home.

Hogg & Lamb, B&B Residence
A dilapidated Queenslander cottage gets a fresh and revitalising makeover from Hogg&Lamb. Following the ‘dedicated minimalist’ aesthetic of the owners, the architects have created a peaceful home of white arches and crisp lines. The family home is minimal but functional, as services have been cleverly concealed. The sundrenched white exteriors shine against the sub-tropical blue sky, backyard pool, and green of the lawn. We featured this home in detail last year – revisit it here!
Austin Maynard Architects, Empire House
Sitting on a ring-road as part of Walter Burley Griffin’s Canberra masterplan, the Empire House by Austin Maynard Architects is a renovation that protects the historic past while reflecting the contemporary needs of the clients. An inter-war style bungalow is updated with the addition of two small pavilions that sit gently alongside the existing home. White metal shingles create a clear demarcation between old and new, while red brick creates a material link between the structures. In addition to the striking external forms, the architects reconsidered the spatial flow of the property to allow spaces for both play and pause.

Sibling Architecture, Hello Houses
Inspired by the veranda culture of Port Fairy, these Sibling Architecture homes celebrate big open spaces, natural light, and connectivity. Located at the centre of town, the design intentionally connects with the community. The pair of houses opens out to the street, with Victoria lattice work inspired screens and archways. The light and dark townhouses put a new spin on a locally relevant architectural typology.
Olaver Architects,  House 1602
Attentive readers will recognise this home from when we featured the converted terrace house by Olaver Architects, that floods the previously dark and narrow property with natural light. The renovation brief was to provide space for entertaining, and conjure a sense of space – which the architect achieved through playing with verticality and connection the outdoor space. A central void opens up the home, and allows for a double height kitchen and sunken living room. By the architects’ own admission, this design ‘isn’t out of the ordinary’ but demonstrates how a humble workers cottage can be transformed into a refined and resolved home. Have a closer look at the full house here.

Bligh Graham Architects, Harriet House
One of Brisbane’s iconic ‘timber and tin’ cottages undergoes a considered renovation from Blight Graham Architects that plays with asymmetry, form, material, soft edges and layered vertical gardens. A family home was expanded to accommodate the changing needs of two teenage sons, with new bedrooms, bathrooms and a living space for spending time with mates. The transformation retains the tropical feel of the property, and reflects a strong sense of place and climactic regional particularities.
WOWOWA, II Duomo
The highly faceted vaulted ceiling of a renovated workers cottage provided the nickname ‘Il Duomo’ – and an Italian flavoured inspiration from Mebourne’s Wowowa architects. Taking inspiration from the Medici era, the courtyard was renovated to reference the octagon geometry of an Italian cathedral. These ambitious goals have been achieved on a tiny 4m wide block, where whimsy and functionality meet. This home playfully works with light and space, delivering maximum amenity on a tiny footprint!
All shortlisted projects are now listed over on the TDF Awards website! And, stay tuned for in-depth coverage of each category shortlist over the coming weeks, ahead of the awards presentation in September!
