Butches can we pls start a homoerotic grappling and striking fight club (as if any fight club isn’t homoerotic) femmes are invited to the grappling spars but I’d rather die than actually hit a femme (having a femme hit me . . . No comment whatsoever) for any butches studs and femmes reading this I’m soooo good at taking a hit and I can take a grapple/submission real well but less experienced with grappling (this is all an evil scheme to get at least a broken nose bc I think I’d look So much better with one)

Apparently @theanticool was waxing poetic when it comes to jabbing the body. Interestingly enough today's short entirely involves one of my favorite set-ups working off alternating the Jab and Body Jab. Here's a staple set-up and one of my personal favorite. Like, share, all that good stuff.

In a reply, you said that Randy Brown has prospect striking, do you have an example of this?
Or do you know of a video breakdown which shows the difference between a striker who is just coming into the UFC, compared to Championship level?
It's not that Brown is a bad striker. He is really fluid, has a nice jab, actually kicks into punches well when he remembers he can do it, and has become good at using range to do damage. What I really meant is he has a lot of exaggerated movement in his defense can often get caught in patterns. Like against Khaos Williams, a lot of his main defensive response from orthodox was ducking down to his right. He's not as slick or multifaceted defensively as he thinks he is and when Khaos did decide to take the gambit and come forward with sustained offense, his defense fell apart.
I don't know of a video or essay that properly outlines the difference between an elite MMA striker and a relative newcomer but if I had to outline it, it'd be things like technical proficiency, initiative, layers, and strategy.
Technical proficiency covers everything from the simple stuff like "can you throw a jab?" to things like "can you pivot?" and "do your feet stay under you when you throw?" Initiative is less about aggression and more about the ability to create the type of fight you want. Whether that be you pinning your opponent on the cage to wing shots like John Lineker or picking them apart off the back foot like you're prime Machida, being an elite striker means using your technical tools to create the fight you want.
Layers, to me, refers to how far do your responses go offensively/defensively. Can a fighter build off feints? Can you draw out responses while putting yourself into position to capitalize? When you're slipping punches, are you in position to return fire or if your opponent threw another punch would you get knocked down? Are you able to build off success?
Obviously there are physical/athletic gifts that play into all this.
It's unfair for me to call Brown's striking "MMA" prospect striking cause it's something you notice watching early career boxers, but it's especially noticeable in MMA where guys are learning how to kickbox for the first time in their 20s. And I think he's at the top end of the welterweight division and he's primarily a striker at this point. Wouldn't surprise me if he could beat guys like the Leech. And he seems to be improving fight to fight still which is crazy 9 years into a pro career. But it feels like the wall is coming up if he doesn't make a big leap soon.

Back again with more Savate, this time we're working up close and personal. Not often highlighted, Savate has an excellent list of foot sweeps and off balances, my favorite probably being the Sweeping Coup de Pied Bas Avant. Or more simply put the inside foot sweep. Extremely deceptive it's easy to hide behind punches or catch an unsuspecting opponent coming in. Here I show a quick hand combination to shift the opponent onto the back foot, lightening their lead leg and make the sweep possible. This is perfect for dropping the opponent onto punches, kicks, or if the situation calls for it knees.
