If you’re still taking redesign asks, what about the ballgowns from season 3? Musa’s may slap but the others are kinda all over the place imo
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ngl I love these fits already I think they all slap. I just chose to update them in a way that fits better with my style and rewrite.
Bloom’s is hideous and it’s perfect for her. The only time I’ll happily put her in baby pink and light blue.
Asymmetry is big on Eraklyon and and the main style is what we’d call regency wear with some adjustments. The empire waistline at this point is something alluded to via things like a fabric or cloth strip there but then it extends further down/has a secondary waistline is more on trend. This is present in everyone’s looks except for Bloom’s because it was a dream of hers to wear a dress like this someday for a formal event. However, this look of the single empire waistline is considered more outdated and old and there would be comments and people would notice because Eraklyon sucks and it adds to the “oh god she’s the one Sky wants to be with?” sentiments around the court and especially from Sky’s parents.
Along with the asymmetry and specific waistlines, sparkling bits of cloth in an outfit is very on trend and symbolizes their robust jewel market and wealth gained through this. Jewel tones that are deeply saturated or pastels are the only 2 options too for coloring. Mid tones are not encouraged and more jewel tones on outfits than pastels are expected for the upper class. Pearls are big in fashion rn too.
Also, at this point in my rewrite, Stella is in a bit of a weird place rn with her feelings towards her heritage and her government she’s supposed to be representing, so she’s skipping gems predominantly associated with royalty (the bright oranges and dark blues) and just going turquoise (which is still something Solarian court officials would raise an eyebrow at, but has plausible deniability) rn and is avoiding predominantly traditional Solarian colors, opting to mix silvers and golds more too. She has loose curls too, testing the waters a little for having her curlier natural hair out and present more.
She later champions for purple to be a symbol of unity between her mixed heritage also, which is nice foreshadowing here imo💅
That’s why I got it in her flower dress redesign:)

You r never disappointing, i swear you're the one that keeps the Hoseok/YN Tag alive and going.
Hi lovely, you're in for a TREAT today. I went on one checking out my reblogs for all my fave Hoseok fics and here they are, a curated list of all the banging Hoseok fics that keep Hoseok/YN alive.
Category: Mafia Hobi/gang Hobi
Look no further than the sublime writing of @xjoonchildx - the Hobi in the drabble Close Call is only a taste of how excellent the Gentlemen of the Gajog series is, featuring the rapline.
I've re-read Heartbeat by @joonbird so many times because this Hobi's written so perfectly - a sexy, tough guy who's decent and insecure underneath and also so so so so hot.
Category: Sweet husband Hobi
@bonvoyagenoona is the writer I admire and aspire to be like. I got on AO3 just so I could read her writing. I adore all her work and The Cul-de-Sac cons is the story I come back to when I want to escape, genuinely escape. JK is the romantic pairing but the Hobi in this is such a sweetheart.
Lawn boy Hobi in Hot and Bothered by @sahmfanficbts is glorious crack at its very best. Sam's devoted to Namjoon but when she branches out, it's still ace.
Category: Soft Hobi/nice guy Hobi
Project Dream Girl, a holiday story that's heartwarming and snuggly and full of brilliant details, also written by @bonvoyagenoona She writes with such compassion and feeling I will never get over it.
I've lamented more than once that @gukslut is no longer active because her writing is incredible and if I could only read stories from one writer ever it would be her. The Holiday Hobi is a perfect mix of filthy and sweet.
Useless Magic by @reliablemitten is a feel-good romp of a story with clever, clever writing featuring a sexy banker Joon and a sweet sweet Hobi who teaches toddlers.
There's something about Hobi in the holidays, and Ho-ho-horrible by @ugh-yoongi is a sweet, heartwarming tale of a thoroughly decent Hobi.
For the first time by @candlewaxandp0lar0ids is beautifully written, and features a sexy neighbour Hobi.
Category: Sexy boss Hobi, with a helping of angst
I read the entirety of Jungle Park by the very excellent @jimlingss in one night. I've been reeling ever since. It's perfect. I've never seen better.
Category: Kinky Hobi
@btssmutgalore writes kinks in the most beautiful and inclusive way. Pas de Trois is so incredibly hot and also features a side of JK.
Category: Fuckboi Hobi
An underwritten trope, imo. The Hobi in Flight 18 by @noona-la-la-la is so funny and charming you're pulled in no matter that your thoughts are on that airport outfit.
Flip & Reverse It by @neonlights92 is funny, smart and so so entertaining, check it out, it's the best laugh you'll have all day.
Fuckboi rapper Hobi in Holiday Inn by @bangtanintotheroom is frankly irresistible and it's futile to even try.
I think putting Party Time by @sugakookitty under this category is underselling this Hobi because frankly, he's sexy, unhinged and way too entertaining for his own good.
Category: Historical Hobi
The Hobi in Kanalia by @xjoonchildx is the ultimate brooding sexy man of few words.
Category: Spy Hobi
Lightning never strikes twice by @vyduan is clever, sparky and so so funny.
Category: Supervillian Hobi
Versus by @minisugakoobies featuring Yoongi, Hobi and Namjoon and a kickass superhero lead, is one of the funniest and crackiest fics I've read on here.
Category: Demon Hobi
I honestly think about the demon Hobi from Not today, Satan, written brilliantly by @gimmethatagustd all the time, and the outrageous MC too.
Same for this unexpectedly soft sleep paralysis demon Hobi in Whispers in the Dark from the brilliant mind of @miscelunaaa .
Category: Crack Hobi
This tentacle-wielding, dancing Cthoseok from Unspeakable Horrors by @thatlongspringnight is straight-up crack and makes me ugly laugh.
Popping these at the end because they make me laugh every time:
@bang-tan 's fake subtitles in this have me crying.
@jeonjapan's hixtape tracklist is gold.
So hey, anon, for you and for me, Hobi's got a lot of strong players in his corner and writers who write him like he's the king he is. Happy birthday month, Hobi! 💜

ok so now that it's july and starcatcher shows are coming up (scary) i wanted to just share this bc i know people are going to want to recreate or emulate the makeup the guys have had whether that be from music videos or on stage at the end of DIG.
makeup recs and info below the cut!
as you can see, the palette that was used on josh for this eye look is $99. these are cream products and yes you get 12 shades but $100 is a lot and not everyone can drop that kind of money.
Tumblr media
so i wanted to give y'all a few alternatives that would allow you to create the same look or something similar of your own creation!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1- makeup by mario master metals eyeshadow palette paired with the mehron mixing liquid. these together are considerably less than the make up forever palette. while this metal palette is a pressed powder, you can scrape some off, mix it with a bit of the mixing liquid and create a super easy to use liquid that dries down. these shades are super pigmented and very user friendly. and ~$55 (before fees) is way less than dropping $100 for two or 3 particular shades. this metals palette also seems better for starcatcher imo
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2- make up forever star lit powder and make up forever aqua seal. this is still pricey imo. and given that you'd be spending $21 for one individual pigment on top of $21 for .4 fl oz for their mixing medium, i personally wouldn't be able to justify this one, but it is an option. it doesn't look like this brand sells the pigments in sets from what i can see, but i'd assume the sets would be pricier than the palette from makeup by mario. again an option, but perhaps not the most financially logical one.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3- mehron metallic powder & mixing medium. this is the same mixing medium i suggested in option one. as you can see the price varies here. the entire set including the mixing medium and 6 loose pigments is just under $66. this set is a bit pricier than option one, but if you just want one loose pigment, each is about $10 and then a small bottle of the mixing medium is around $5. again, $15 is considerably less than $100 and you can still make the same look.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
4- nyx loose metallic pigment and the mehron mixing medium. this one is the cheapest so far at only $6.50 for the individual pigment and again, $4.95 for the small bottle from mehron. here you're spending around $12 (before fees) to get the same look. unfortunately, they don't appear to have a gold pigment, but silver is looking like the go to vibe for starcatcher.

gerodi la forge differently designed
(image desiption
Gerodi la forge without vizor eyes unfocused going in slightly different direction, wearing his yellow uniform standing stoic but proud, the spectrum the vizor lets him see from (or should only read thread as to why I think that) it refracting of his face as the effects  surrounded him a lil like he being beamed up to a ship.)
Embrace the spectrum of blind/V.I eyes artists!, embrace the nuance of disabilities people!
Gerodi la forge is a complicated representation for the blind/chronic pain  community though probably more positive than most but still falling under the technology ruining the nuance of disability.
So I wanted to draw him and show a more accurate(imo) portrayal of his eyes without the visor to 1 cuz white clear eyes trope annoys me
2 to not want to hide blind person eyes as media often tends to do (minus sunglasses needed for blind actor due to sensitivities)
3 cuz they cause pain and so he should have them off more often.
to note a lot of what im going to say is written way better an documented better by janet jay a lot of my sources are from here amazing piece on gerodi you should read: https://www.janetjay.com/what-star-trek-got-wrong-about-geordis-disabilities/ also if you in blind community are fine with his eyes portrayed as more cataract, that’s valid too.
So gerodi la forge for me as a avid star trek fan was important, hey I can exist if he can he not been erased!  Buuuuuuuut,
it did urk me that 1 he was kinda a lil nerdy creep trope that never got a gf which levar burton himself has called out as racism from the shows writers (sources at bottom of thread) id also argue ableism also and many able bodied people treat disabled people as sexless.
but also that he never got to be disabled really, he suffered from chronic pain form the vizor but kept choosing to not take pain pills or treatment, which you know that’s some inner ableism right there I did to myself as a teen, and I kinda think gerodi reinforced it a lil in me,
“look where he is, he deals with the pain he never shows it”
Not a great message really, gerodi never is allowed to show the struggle they choose that the vizor existing was enough, and yes we got that amasing ep where he didn’t want to be fixed, but that would then be countered by never showing the struggle. Women at warp did a great ep where on disability karrisa mehr calling gerodi a disabled version of a “manic pixie dream girl” feels very apt.
Never allowed to complain just be quirky gerodi.
And on to the vizor
The vizor is complicated , it apparently let him  see much of the EM spectrum", ranging from simple heat and infrared through radio waves” now I personally am all for mobility aids that have cool attachments but it’s a delicate balance of unique features and fixing and or making them more powerful than able bodied colleague-cuz thats fixing, and I feel gerodi with how show wrote it and portrayed him it was a magic fix more than an aid, why I chose to only show the thermal spectrum in image, instead of how it apparently can see everything more than human eyes can anyway which yeh defeat aid purpose.
Tumblr media
image of vizor silver sem ring over eye with gold lines across not fullyblcokign vision 0
and it gave him chronic pain, they choose this as a balancer, okay…but then never portrayed it just did to show how gerodi overcame his disabilities and gets on with it like a good soldier. So yeh im mixed on it. They made great use in ep when it was hacked by cardassians this is the cool thing you can do with mobility aids (unless you just destroy them, fuck you then) and that was interesting for the time, but um then in he insolence of office the ebook gerodi forced to have his vizor REMOVED so he can stay in star fleet as its now a security risk- NOT OKAy you could have just had a redesign or a arc of gerodi having to fight for it if you must but no , brain surgery remove this part of you!!
Tumblr media
(gif desicription men seeing tea they drink is funky to show how gross what they did to gerodi waas)
so yeh my ending take is gerodi is complicated overall that’s still a positive over most disabled rep in sci-fi but many mistakes were made and some part of gerodi was harmful and picard sure as hell didn’t address that. They show his eyes now but its still the white cloudy trope and knowing its for awful reasons kidna ruins that. So I hope my art here just shows his potential and blind eyes diversity, but opens up discussions in not fixing and overcoming can be toxic and that
pain is part of a disability its part of the rep and it sucks
this is very important to remember when depicting disability that there’s nuance guys.
Thank you
Levar burton on gerodi: https://boundingintocomics.com/2021/12/15/star-trek-the-next-generation-star-levar-burton-says-geordi-laforge-never-finding-love-was-racist-those-white-men-who-wrote-the-show-had-an-unconscious-bias-that-was-on-display-to-me-and-to/

bit of a weird one, but you’re an expert, so i hope it’s okay! what do you think are the key parts of good jli characterization ?
(always love all your thoughtful posts!)
its totally okay I love rambling about this shit
this is kind of a broad topic I’ve thought about A LOT so I’m probably missing something important I’m going to remember tonight while I’m trying to go to sleep
one of the things that makes JLI characterization of them as a team feel ‘right’ to me is understanding their place in the broader DCU. I’ve talked about this before, but at various points, we get a very ‘us vs them’ dynamic between the JLIs and other ‘proper’ superheroes; they’re very insular, and they don’t tend to get along with other heroes; a lot of it tends to go back to active anger towards the JLIs for ‘embarrassing’ the name of the league by not taking themselves seriously. Most of the times when the JLI as a team interacts with other heroes, they either get into a fight (Jurgens JLA), the other heroes run away screaming (JLI), or they get treated with some mix of disdain and pity (most comics post-ted dying). So takes where random JLIs buddy around with random other DC characters tend to fall really flat to me unless that individual case has been earned (and usually it hasn’t). The ways in which they’re outsiders are important and meaningful imo.
It’s also important that people . . . understand the jokes? I think people REALLY underestimate how much JLI plays with your expectations, and it leads to a lot of times where I see people who view JLI characters not as who they ARE, but as who the set-up tells you they are before the punchline proves that wrong. And while the subversion often is things like having the no-nonsense leaders tell a joke, there’s also a lot of important character work that comes out of subverting those expectations. I think especially with Blue & Gold, people overlook that having the dumb jock be the voice of reason to the genius visionary is a better set up for jokes and a more nuanced character dynamic than ‘booster dumb ted smart’ like we tend to get lately. And with characters like Dmitri, there’s actually a lot of value in having a character who represents “America’s enemy” in the Cold War era be such a kind and likeable person. There’s SO many examples of this (just to name a fee minor ones: Fires hot but can’t get laid! the married couple living in the suburbs are terrible at domesticity! they leave the military dude at home when they go fight the soldiers on Apokolips!), and imo, you can tell when someone has taken JLI characterization at face value and when they’re someone who understands that the original books characterization tends to zig when it tells you it’s going to zag.
Also they should be mean to each other. Like they’re a textual found family and it’s clear that the core group who has stuck together has done so out of genuine love and connection, but they also fight all the time and are largely garbage people. MY garbage people, but garbage people all the same.

OPINIOMS ON GRANBY…..?????
Jesus Christ three of yall messaged me about Granby why does everyone want opinions on him specifically First impression: It feels so long ago but i started the first book like less than a month ago bwahhhhhhh. At first I had mixed opinions on him. I thought he was going to be like Dayes (so cringe), and my opinion of him really didn't change that much until like, he obviously started not being a dick lol lmao. I honestly really like his character arc in the first book specifically because like. Mans got the courage to be like "Fuck im sorry for being rude and uncouth but I *cannot* let things continue this way" and honestly thats a really cool and chill moment. Like i love long and drawn out sentences (i love Jane Austen i love Jane Austen) but also i really like it when a character is real blunt and just doesn't drag it out. That also especially took guts because the last time that he did something like that Laurence threatened to get him in trouble for insubordination (very smooth Laurence)
Second Impression: Thats right baby Granby gets three impressions because hes that cool. This is Granby precisely from the beginning of Throne of Jade to *right* before he gets Iskierka. Just absolutely most badass guy imo. Super reliable. Best friends with Laurence, super competent. This is Granby at his best and treated with the most respect, and I think Novik had to give him Iskierka to nerf him.
Impression now: I feel so fucking bad for Granby. My severe dislike for Iskierka is not really hidden but she has dragged my poor Glorbo through the mud. When I think of Granby now i just think of that cat that had its face in milk and looks miserable and sad. Like goddamn what did they do to you. Hes still a really strong and awesome character, and it was AWESOME seeing him storm up to Poole in LoD; but he gets so much horrible stuff just tossed on him because Iskierka is a petulant child. Genuine princess behavior, hes a tired king.
Favorite moment: Its a tie between him telling Iskierka to fuck off and listen to him for once, and him in a blistering rage and storming up to Poole. Like you cannot understand how much i love those moments. Just Granby finally putting his foot down and going "No. I will not deal with this bullshit any longer, there are going to be consequences now." Of course that doesn't really go anywhere in LoD because Laurence is also a fucking badass, but meh. The heart was there, man was about to commit civil war in the Aviator Corp just for his friend. I really appreciate that <3 But also on the other hand I REALLY like him standing up to Iskierka in Crucible of Gold because HOLY SHIT she was so insanely disrespectful to him. Like I don't *care* that she is 'his dragon', it was like borderline homophobia in my eyes and the fact that it came from someone so close to him and the entire point of his service in the corp just broke my heart. So i'm glad that he put his foot down for once and made her listen to him. Setting boundaries is really important, and I think that he set them quite well.
Idea for a story: Any of them where he gets a better dragon than Iskierka. JKJKJKKJKJKJKJK Nah but fr i think my only real story idea with Granby would be to explore all of the things that he was doing when he wasn't with Laurence. His constant Struggles with Iskierka and having to deal with being friends with someone that committed treason for a cause he believed in. Most importantly how he developed and maintained any sort of relationship with Little. I dont have anything super unique unfortunately, its hard for me to do something that would be in character without getting rid of the things that make his character, if that makes sense?
Unpopular opinion: Hmmmmmmm well I haven't been around the fandom long enough to really see what is and isn't popular opinion with the blorbo, but i think that my most controversial statement about Granby is that I don't find him that amusing. I love and adore him and i think hes great but he is very sincere in my eyes and that leaves very little in the way of him actually being funny. I think there are only a couple of moments where I think hes funny/in a funny situation. But oh well.
Favorite relationship: Finding any non platonic relationship in Temeraire is so hard for me. I want to say my favorite relationship is him and little, but also i dont care about little that much. I think hes cute! But i was given very little to work with in the books in the way of *their* relationship other than that they have fucked. And like, idk. I think my favorite relationship in general though, is probably him with Iskierka, funnily enough. I think it shows the best of both characters whenever its done right, and I think it really let Granby Be His Own Character. Like everyone in the Corp wants a dragon. Duh. But when Granby gets his, she's a nightmare! He has to go through this long and twisting road where he is afraid to take too wrong of a step because Iskierka, and because hes friends with Laurence(traitor adjacent), and because hes always wanted dragon and hes afraid to fuck it up and etc etc etc. And he kinda has to learn to stand up for himself and others in a way that he probably hasn't had to before. Its not really a path that the other Aviators get to take, they just become background characters after they get their dragon. I mean even Ferris just drops off the face of the earth when he gets his Prussian.
And Iskierka is great because despite how horrible she acts she really does care for him, im not blind to that. But her path in their relationship is that she has to learn to stop being so overbearing, so crazy, so difficult to work with. She has to understand that she is not infallible, and that the things that hurt her are not the same as the things that hurt other dragons, and that realization comes at a pretty horrible time in her life. She has to grow up, which while we see other dragons grow up in this series (like mentally i mean), i dont think that theres ever so stark a comparison as with her.
Idk if that makes sense, but I like their relationship the most out of Granby's relationships because its the most unique for both characters, imo.

Presenting the project that made me heterophobic:
Tumblr media
Yep! I am the dork that painted the masks of our current five boys over the course of three-four days (easier to space than six would be and lets face it, I do not care for kurlzz). I chose the Notes from the Underground masks because I've realized that it's the album that most of my favorite songs thus far come from. I quickly began regretting my decision at the point where I realized exactly how limited my paint options were and how many cool colors I would need. More details for each mask below (going bottom to top).
Tumblr media
Danny's mask looks almost nothing like the actual one mostly because I painted the circles first and did not realize the mask was more angular than I initially thought. I also had no gold, so we've got a lovely yellow mixed with tan for the base color. The bullets are rough but also smaller than you'd think and a basic brush set from Michaels does not, as I have learned, have super tiny brushes, so I did the best I could on the casings. I am proud of the fact that I tried to make the rust work as best as I could, and if you look really closely, you can even see the mesh in the eyes (looks a little clearer on the left eye). The smirk is present on the right side and I do think it's decently recognizable.
Tumblr media
This one made me cry. Any criticism of the fire around the eyes will be met with the response to suck dick because, to be quite frank, I challenge anyone to do better at 1 am and remain disturbingly proud of them. I'm kinda sad that my green (mixed from blue and yellow, because my budget is two pennies and all previous supplies) dried up early cause I was hoping to get more of the Louis Vuitton-style details, but still pretty damn good. I think the pyramid and the canisters turned out nice. Also, a little bit of a cat-eye shape for the eyeholes and the fire, but that was deliberate and I will not be ashamed of it in my moment of pride (I will undoubtedly feel the shame within five minutes of posting, but that is a problem for future me).
Tumblr media
A fun an interesting fact is that this is the second time I've done this particular mask of J3T, and both times I have realized I love doing the butterfly. It's super fun because as long as we get the basic swirls in, it's alright if they don't match length perfectly. The cracks are slightly off because the very first ones were free-handed, but I did my best to get the rest of them proper, and they even work to form the nose. Apparently the orange looks more yellow than I thought.
Tumblr media
This one was a welcome relief after crying over the detailing of J-Dog's mask. Again, no metallic colors, so our silver is grey. The little black lines are there to add texture to the edges (as it turns out, none of my brushes added it in a sufficiently noticeable way), and this one looks the cleanest imo.
Tumblr media
Last but not least, Charlie's bandanna (sunglasses painted over because, as it turns out, I continue to suck at painting and drawing glasses). The buildings are likely not accurate to the actual picture, but my reference photo did not show the actual city on the bandana so I just did some buildings, a fancy lil' LA and we're calling it an artistic interpretation. Also, check out that S. Coolest S I will ever draw in my life, got it right on the first try.
Anyways sorry that I didn't post this sooner cause I technically finished all of this yesterday evening, I have a flight soon so I am typing this up at 4:30 am at the airport.
(Tagging @vampswillhurtyou and @cutelittlenightmarethings cause both of you said you were interested and I have no idea whether or not this will show up in the main tags.)
Tumblr media
Final pic to show what it looks like at a slight distance and with other object to provide scale. Note the paint palette thingy having 3 shades of grey in it because, again, shoestring budget and persistence substitute everything for us.

Ramblings about Chris Elman and wtf his identity even is
I'm talking all endgame spoilers for Ward so PLEASE dont read if you haven´t finished it.
(SPOILERS FOR WARD)
Eventually I'll make an actual essay about Ward because there a lot of stuff. Ward is, IMO, not bad but is such a confusing absolute chaos of good and interesting ideas that kinda get lost in the haze of insanity. Like I do think Ward is good but it's the least good of all of Wildbow's stuff that I've read and I sincerely feel if he actually editted it it would be as good or better than Worm but he wont so whatev. I guess I'll just scream to the void.
Also, OOOOOOFFF because Chris is actually a very complex character! And this complexities IMO are NOT well examined in the story proper! My hot take is simply that Wildbow just kinda....didn't fully explain or problematize or, like, made a plot of this, despite it clearly being both set up for it as well as quite honestly necessary to understand one of the main characters.
What is even Chris's mental age?
In a way Chris is a clone with all the memories of a man somewhere between 20-40 years old. He was made specifically to relive the traumatic events of his creator's life so that he would trigger in the exact same way and have the same powers, an utterly insane idea that hadnt even been shown to be possible. He retains traumas and anger from this life, despite it not being technically his own, and in his own internal narrative often sees himself as Lab Rat, the minor villain that turns out was actually one of the most powerful villains in this universe. Several people treat Chris not as his own person but as Lab Rat cheating death, coming back.
Note 1: the reveal that Lab Rat is Chris's creators is THE WORST twist Wildbow ever did. It comes out of NOWHERE, it's about a character that had NO relevance since Worm ending and no presence in Ward proper and, while not IMPOSSIBLE in this universe it takes so many unlikely stuff and leaps of logic that it just...wow. They really do it like they expect the audience to flip their shit but I had to wiki walk a lot to even get what was going on. And when I did my answer was not "Holy shit! This is crazy" but a very confused "Is that how triggers even work?"
I believe the issue was that commentors on the webpage where so filled with complex headcanons that when Wildbow decided to follow on one of them everybody that was there week by week was so busy losing their minds to even contemplate the fact that it was all kinda from left field.
Note 2: My personal headcanon is that Chris and Lab Rat have actually slightly different abilities as Chris seems more focused on serums that temporarily grant powers instead of just making monsters but that might be just how they are different in their usage of their powers --another point for "Chris is not Lab Rat" bag imo. Also he's clearly a Trump? Like, he can clearly mix powers? Isn't that OP? Why doesn't anyone react to this random suddenly becoming Eidolon Lite?
Going back to the main topic, the other thing about Chris is that in another wqay he began existing sometime around Gold Morning so he's also 2 years? He is the thingy that Taylor Hebbert helped Lab Rat toss over the ocean. The monster maker's last creation, made out of a dare, to show how great this own power really was, made to do "something big". Created out of hubris, whim and irresponsability.
Chris began existing as a literal monster without a human body, possible non-sentient, driven by "directives" that he biologically has to follow. So in a way he is kinda close to Nilbog's creations, as a byproduct of parahumans irresponsably going all Frankenstein. The way he constantly associates himself with monsters and non-humans is...kinda a point from him? And this clearly informed his actions on the Titanomaquia but it was A Bit Rushed (take a drink when you say this regarding a secondary character on Ward ending).
And like, he is also clearly dominated by the "Directives" his creator left and those drive him but he kinda rationalizes them as things that he truly wants and becomes emotionally invested in them but at the same time you could argue he IS a victim of his own creation....but nobody finds out he even has directives he HAS to follow. Not to mention the insanity of sometimes seeing yourself as a person but at the same time having orders of that same person installed since birth in your head in a way that you cannot fight.
And, like, he himself seems to be incapable of making up his mind whether or not he is his creator? Like he sometimes seems to truly believe himself to be this older man, despite the fact that he's physically another body and also began existing as a completely different being and demostrably has different attitudes and has to follow the order of the original Lab Rat. But he still has his memories, his hatred for people, his grudge against his sister. So he does have more maturity than a 12-year old. But he IS immature because he's also 2 years old. Victoria essentially forgives everything he pulls because she essentially internalizes him as even more of a child than Kenzie and, well, not wrong? His actions really do scream of a child going "You can hit me :P" at times with Team Breakthrough, which arguably are the first and only people that have treated him as his own person, something he himself is not sure he is or isn't. So he lashes out at them and constantly annoys them but it's always this extremely self-destructive thing? It's a very compelling dynamic, a friend turned enemy that kinda just wants to attention but doesn't want to admit it. He wants to be validated as an evil monster but this people have seen both sides of him and know he is closer to an annoying 12 year old that he himself will ever be to the Endbringers.
Jessica outright believes him to be his own being and sincere about heroics and when she asks him what he truly is Chris just shrugs? Because he himself doesnt know and his only real way to treat humans is lying to them so he has never been able to even be aware of it all?
And like, Jessica KNEW. And you could argue that it's a plot hole that she allowed Chris into the team because she fell for his lie and openly wasn't worried about him turning evil. But I would very much indeed like to understand what would it mean for Chris, who began life as a literal monsters during a war and was forced into memories that werent his to be trusted by another person. And what Jessica saw in him to make her believe he could be a hero.
Dont worry tho, Jessica disappears at the end of Ward and this is not examined in any way. Take a drink!
IMO the whole Chris arc is for me one of the parts where Wildbow really dropped the ball because IT IS important and IT IS interesting and there is so much you can do with it but he just kinda stays in the background most of the time.

if the vampire academy show gets multiple seasons, i really hope it changes the direction of the rose/adrian relationship bc i can’t think of any good reason to write a show where a black woman is villainized and used as a plot device for her white oppressor's manpain. regardless of your personal feelings on rose or adrian, the concept of a narrative where the black heroine is put in a bad position at the end of her own story to set up more angst for her white ex-boyfriend is a bad choice, for both meta and story reasons.
wrt meta reasons why keeping things the same as spirit bound/last sacrifice is a bad idea, following the books faithfully would prob open the door to a lot of fandom antiblackness and sexism against rose as a character and sisi as an actor. rose is already an overhated character in book fandom and reviews bc of the rosdrian subplot, with many of the same people who don’t see an issue with adrian’s sexually harassing or objectifying rose calling rose an abuser, manipulator, gold-digger and a mix of sexist and racist slurs for not returning adrian’s feelings and/or for not being loyal to him. ofc this isn’t behavior that’s unique to adrian fandom bc all fandoms have sexism/racism problems, and i’m def not saying all adrian fans are anti-rose or that anyone is bad in any way for liking adrian. imo you can love/appreciate adrian as a character and still see that the va show is better off avoiding the books’ take on the rosdrian subplot. black characters- esp black women- always get more flack from fandom and their choices are judged more harshly, rose/sisi is already getting a lot of hate from racists who hate the show reality that rose hathaway is a black woman, and there’s no need to stoke the misogynoir flames even more by making rose “at fault” for how her dynamic with adrian plays out.
the show could write any number of new subplots where (assuming the show wants to keep the canon endgames intact):
(if adrian’s behavior is changed) adrian has unrequited feelings for rose for a while but they don’t actually date, he takes no for an answer after some flirting and his romance shifts to adrian/sydney once sydney takes a more active role in the plot
(if adrian’s behavior is changed) rosdrian date, but they do it in a casual, no-strings-attached way where they break up at some point before they get together with their endgames. there are no hard feelings between them
(if adrian’s behavior stays the same) rosdrian’s trajectory stays mostly the same but the breakup is abt rose getting some catharsis calling adrian out for objectifying her, which could kickstart adrian’s redemption arc. this option would prob be closest to canon, but rose gets a mini-arc that culminates in her standing up for herself against a royal who disrespected her and adrian realizes he needs to start acting better with women who are lower than him on the moroi social hierarchy, which would pay forward with adrian/sydney
this is just me floating a few options and i’d love to hear other ppl’s suggestions wrt how this subplot could go if y’all have any. but the most important point is: no matter what happens or how adrian is written, rose shouldn’t cheat on adrian and shouldn’t be written like the breakup is her fault, like she’s responsible for adrian’s feelings, or like she "owes” adrian a chance at any point. even if adrian is written like a legit nice guy and doesn’t coerce rose in the show, the main issue with the cheating plot is richelle m using rose as an “ex who broke his heart” plot device to give adrian more tragic backstory in a spinoff, without giving rose any of the detailed catharsis, recovery and healing she wrote for adrian in that new series. the va show, like the main series, is rose’s story, and it needs to stay rose’s story without sacrificing her character development or marring her hea so it can contrive more angst for a white supporting character.

hiya, everyone! i had the nastiest flu ever which is why i requested a hiatus for the week, but i’m slowly feeling better so i’m going to try to catch up on replies. plus, it’s a new quarter so feel free to take this as a Q2 update post for my muses! reply with any-colored heart emoji if you’d like a starter, or like this post if you’d like to plot something out! feel free to specify a muse or i’ll just go with whatever!
HYOJUNG.
selene is having their concert april 14, 15, 16, so if your muse would like to be invited by hyojung, she’d be more than happy to give those out! she’s a little indifferent about concerts this far into her career, but they’re a great way to communicate with fans
any gold star muses, she’ll end up bumping into at the 4k event charity event, so if you’d like to plot something out specifically for the event!
hyojung’s wrapping up transit love by the end of april, and it was a rollercoaster ride. for anybody who has watched it, she sort of took on the kim yewon role where she empathizes with pretty much every single participant, and only wished for happy endings. whether that meant them getting back together with their ex, finding someone new or walking out of single and happy, it didn’t matter, as long as this opportunity was one for them to grow! she came onto the show with a lot of mixed feelings, but she’s come out of it feeling so great and really kind of lonely because she’s been single for a while
yumi’s cells season 2 is still filming and it’ll begin airing in may! if anybody is a drama fan and would like to talk about it, whether it means trying to get spoilers out of her or asking her how it’s like on set, we can do that as well!
overall, it’s not a very crazy quarter for hyojung. she’s just going on with her career and life like always lmao i have plans for a fanmeeting for her, but i’m still working out those details! if your muse would like to discuss possible ideas/concepts for that though, that’d be a really cute thread imo
SUJI.
feel my rhythm was such a nice era for suji because she enjoyed the song and concept so much. she wishes they could continue to release songs like this instead of.... zimzalabim lmao she’ll never let that die
equinox is also having a concert may 20 & 21 and like hyojung, anybody can be invited if they’d like to and hit up a convo with her backstage or whatever. unlike hyojung, suji loves loves concerts and lives for that energy, so she’ll be like a puppy after having 100 starbursts <3
gold star muses, suji and equinox will also be at the 4k event so see u there
on a more personal note, she has a comeback coming up in july, so she’s probably stuck in the studio, her apartment and all that jazz whenever she has schedules. again, if your muse ever wants to talk music with her, be my guest like she’s always open for that
also, i saw that a lot of people had their muses write down suji for someone they’d like to collab with and like <3 i don’t bite <3 please do hmu if you ever need a female vocalist lmao i’d love for suji to like... actually work with other people please

i don’t normally do this type of post, i never have reason to, but i wanted to write down or go relatively in-depth with the process of that last piece so i can hopefully replicate the results (or if anyone was curious). and also because i think the initial sketch is hilarious:
Tumblr media
before i put a cut on this monstrosity of a post, these are the lines and flats; there were a few details that got lost under the shading so now you can see the gradients on her tentacles, etc.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
now let’s get crack a lackin’
composition-wise i had a vague idea that i wanted both her hands in the shot, a prominent feature of her smile, and the lettering in the bottom left-hand corner; of which the hardest part was placing both her hands until i had the idea of her leaning against her shoulder.
since i swapped to csp from sai, my sketches have gotten looser and simpler in style, which isn’t a bad thing but wasn’t what i wanted out of this pic. i especially wanted to evoke the way i used to draw marlo’s teeth and did my best to replicate the brush i used to sketch in sai, and then i drew the rest of the owl. (and refined the text.)
(on god, there are no layers in-between these two.)
Tumblr media
i did not have to line this from here but i wanted to, so i did. i think that took the bulk of the time spent on this... somewhere around 7 to 9 hours?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i wasn’t thinking about line-weight all that much, really, apart from mimicking the heavier and thicker areas of the sketch—normally i would have a light-source in mind already, and thin the lines which would be under direct light and thicken the ones in the shadows, but i really didn’t think i was gonna render this yet. for as long as it takes lineart is the least-complicated step so... that’s that.
for clarity, i won’t include this version in the process, but for all my artfight attacks thus far i’ve duplicated the lineart layer and used some effect to add some soft red rim to it all. in this instance the duplicated layer is a soft vivid red on color burn and blurred a little; the main lineart is on hard light so it can show against the darker colors.
Tumblr media
the flats have a few things going on; they’re a mix of my own color choices (for example, her main skin tone is the same color i used to sketch) and eyedropped, which i don’t normally do but you just can’t get better than dolly’s native colors imo. instead, the skin colors from her ref made up the highlights and flush points. i was gonna do the same thing on her tentacles but gave up because i couldn’t figure it out LOL. most everything was magic wand’d for ease of selection, though i like to color by hand.
oooookay, so now we get into shading. i wasn’t planning on doing anything extra beyond nab a few extra points with a rough excuse for ‘fully shaded’, but i started screwing around with layer modes and, well, that was all she wrote.
Tumblr media
first step: saturated teal on 100% multiply. (i think it was a color i eyedropped from one of splatoon’s assets for my last zine piece, actually.) i blocked it in chunks and refined it with the g-pen and eraser, celshading everything like i normally do, and then stumbled face-first into blending instead. clip’s default gouache blender for that, at various sizes depending how broad or subtle i wanted the blend. i sort of kept the shadows crisp near where they were cast (i.e. her arm against her tentacle) and faded on wider planes like her arms & chest but mostly i did whatever i liked.
Tumblr media
duplicated the layer and set it on top, a bright red on 100% saturation. i use the HSV sliders the most and the red was, itself, 100 saturation. i wanted extra vibrancy without having to literally paint with more saturated colors and this was the best solution i could come up with.
Tumblr media
now the light source; a linear burn layer on 23% opacity, a rich gold color (i think one of the ones i’ve used for ness’ ink at some point); cool shadows mean a warm light source. normally i would magic wand the celshading and invert selection, but since i’d already painted everything, i ... did the same and expanded the selection significantly, overlapping with the saturation layer/‘subsurface scattering’, and softened the edges down. not recommended, will make sure to think ahead next time lmao.
Tumblr media
now we start to get complicated and i started throwing things to find if they stick. this one’s a soft light layer with pink and blue airbushed on; the pink to add further vibrancy and depth to her skin, accentuate the flush points from above, and create color variation and vibrancy in her tentacles. the blue got used for a rough approximation of bounce light and to create a bit more depth in the shadows. i wasn’t super precise with the placement, but it isn’t obvious either way.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the top is a very pale tan on soft light, there’s not a lot to this; it’s very broad highlights and i just kinda did whatever in terms of the shapes.
the bottom is the addition of another vivid light layer, a similar if not the same pale tan airbrushed over and around the broader gloss. i layered it heavier where that gloss was more pronounced, especially closest to the light source, but bled it out farther to create the illusion of... i don’t know if you would call it refraction or subsurface scattering again, but some extra depth. there’s also a few speckles to dampen the impact of the shine on her nose and lips & accentuate the shine of her teeth.
and that’s all of it! i made this whole thing up as i went along but i am Definitely gonna attempt recreating and refining it. if you read this far, thank you so much, i am handing you a plate of homemade sugar cookies

opinions on the queendom 2 finale stages?
the show overall has been pretty whelming. while I didn't really feel disappointed with any fine stage, I think a lot of them felt a bit more like a comeback stage than a "finale"
hyolyn: the song was eh, but she looks in gold, and she's so good at knowing how to fill a stage w/ dancers w/o getting lost in them (also best singer out of the entire group by far. noted that she was singing live). not sure how I feel about the feature choice because I feel like youngji was competing with her a bit and she's also fine enough at rapping that I think she could've done a small rap section herself (youngji dance classes paying off tho lol). i'm surprised she didn't rank at least top 3 though, I think she's been the most consistent throughout the whole show and is by far the best performer and she's the one I'm hoping she gets more GP attention post-show.
brave girls: whistle has been added to my summer playlist, this is so good, and im hoping they promote it more! i like that they went with a very distinct concept and played towards their strengths, but i feel like they probably scored low for the reason that it didn't feel extremely "grand" or finale-like. imo the main weakness of the performance was the lack of a strong climax, they pulled out the stage lifts and hat props pretty early and there wasn't a super distinct point for the rest of it so it felt a little comeback-stagey.
kep1er: didn't love the styling (esp the neon soled boots? why) and while the song was alright they lacked a distinctive concept. for me, this was the weakest out of the finale perfs. dance break was fun tho. over the course of the show I think they kind of struggled to brand themselves musically, which makes sense because of how new they are, so I'm looking forwards to seeing what they come out w/ in the future.
viviz: clearly they were much more focused on sending a message to their fanbase than striving to have a winning "finale" concept, and it was sweet. unsure of how I feel about the satin dresses, the colors were cute but its a hard material to make not look cheap. maybe it would have looked better traded out for velvet or another material? i hope in their upcoming promotions as viviz they don't feel tooooo locked into the gfriend concept though, esp after seeing their shake it perf w/ soyou! I think they do fresh concepts super well too. overall I think they were one of the better groups at having a finale performance that balanced the song, the choreo, interesting use of the stage and concept.
wjsn: this was up there with one of my fav finale songs, goddamn exy, but I didn't love the performance or the styling. im over the "generic 4th gen black outfit with some metal hardware/buckles/rivets/etc." the drones were cool, I think they effects they can create are underutilized in life perfs, but other than that I don't think they took enough advantage of props or the stage to create a "finale" stage feel, it felt more like a comeback stage. also I think wjsn, despite in theory having a really well-defined concept they can play off of, struggled a bit to brand themselves well throughout the show (with the exception of pantomime), which was confusing to me and I think this was still somewhat evident in their finale
loona: ok this was obviously my favorite finale even though everything I say after this is going to make it sound like they weren't. i mixed feelings about them essentially doing an NCT song (even some aspects of the choreo reminded me of NCT's kick it lol). i miss the monotreexloona era where it really felt like they just melded with the songs rather than the new SM songs. they don't really have any power vocalists or anyone with a strong enough voice to perfectly make a song sound like its "theirs" in the same way they did with the monotree songs. i also don't get why in a group of girls where there isn't really any one particularly skilled at rapping, they have a song so full of it? kimlip and heejin had my favorite rap bits in the song and even those were... just barely keeping up with what the song was probably intended to sound like. its like another one of those songs that feels like it just serves as the backdrop to flex some dancing. im obsessed with all vocal parts though and their choreo/dance break was my favorite out of all the groups though by a landslide. I think they did the one of the best jobs at balancing all the aspects of their performance though (the song, the dance, having a solid concept, and making full use of the stage).
if im ranking finales by how well the songs alone fit my personal taste id probably go something like: wjsn = loona > brave girls > hyolyn > viviz > kep1er
but ranking by entire performance: loona (im super biased tho) > viviz = hyolyn > brave girls > wjsn = kep1er

10 Ways the Loki show Disappointed Me
part two
6) The trailer was misleading advertising. Marvel’s done it in the past with little to no backlash:
Iron Man 3 presenting the Mandarin as the ultimate foe for Tony to defeat, only to find out he’s a charlatan in a minor role.
Falcon and Winter Soldier was presented as a light-hearted buddy adventure, only to tackle darker themes about nationalism and racism. (Not saying that those themes were bad, just that the TFAWS’s trailer was not truthful to the story).
In the case of Loki, the trailer presented the plot as Loki making time-traveling shenanigans and being captured for breaking the timeline. They included the D.B Cooper clip, and the scenes of Loki in New York and as king in Asgard. These clips never show up in season 1. The D.B Cooper scene was a off-the-cuff moment, and the highly-anticipated (imo) President Loki was around for five minutes.
The trailer shows the storyline being about Loki breaking the timeline, with Mobius saying in a voiceover, “You picked up the tesseract, breaking reality. I want you to help us fix it.”
Marvel’s publicity team knew what story we would want to see from the character. And that’s not what we got: it was a mix of Loki tagging along with Sylvie to take down the Timekeepers, and detective-esque  scenes of trying to overthrow the TimeKeepers.
It was never about Loki having an adventure, breaking the timeline, and having to fix it.
There’s a difference between having scenes that don’t make it into the final product, between not revealing enough of the story to spoil plot twists...and deliberately choosing certain scenes and quotes  to present a false version of the story.
I guess Marvel was worried that no one would watch it if they showed us the real product.
7)    Loki’s powers were wildly inconsistent, especially compared to what we’ve seen before.
In the past, we’ve seen Loki do illusions, duplication casting and in Thor 2, some very light telekinesis. After hearing of his mother’s death, he throws several pieces of furniture in into the cell walls with his mind. This is after losing the person who probably mattered most to him at the time, and feeling responsible for her death--it’s a powerful move showing his magical capabilities.
In the show, in Episode 3 we see him pull a Roomba towards himself in order to use it as a shield during a fight--pretty in-line with what we saw in the Dark World.
One episode later, an entire flipping tower is falling towards them, and he reverses it with his mind alone.
It was in the face of death, you say. Of course he was going to pull some cool new magical move.
Sure. In the face of death, I could see him jumping from throwing chairs to something heavier, like maybe a crumbling wall or a fruit stand.
BUT A TOWER?
 WHY?
 HOW??
He’s never done anything on that scale magically. In episode 2, he got tossed around by a (human) Alabama man. Why would he not use that move to bring the roof crumbling down if he was fighting for his life then?
So he’s got massive telepathic power when a building is falling but can’t use it in a fight against regular people.... okay?
Honestly, due to the fact that they’ve weakened him so much, and when Loki said, “I think we’re stronger than we realize”, I’m betting Season 2 will include Loki discovering the extent of his magical powers.
I don’t like this idea because again, it contradicts the previous canon. In Thor 1, Hogun literally calls Loki a “master of magic”. He went toe-to-toe with Thor and the Avengers and now can’t beat regular humans. A thousand+ year old being unaware of his own untapped potential doesn’t seem correct (yeah, they did that with Thor in Ragnarok, I know).
This Loki’s power levels jump up and down according to the plot, trying to make us believe that due to his spoiled past, Loki needs to apply himself to learn more about his powers.
 8)  Loki was out of character.
His lying and scheming was way too obvious. I was incredibly confused the first couple of episodes because it would be strange how he would be a pathetic buffoon  one minute and yet The only moment I was sold on his competence as a liar was episode 2 at the renaissance fair where he attempts to fool  the TVA. He was actually competent for once, but he gets caught, and goes into apologizing and sucking up 30 seconds later.
He gets drunk when they’re on the mission on Lamentis. This didn’t make sense--when he was trying to conquer Earth, he had the opportunity to also goof off and he’s always been shown to take things seriously, with the exception of Ragnarok.
The “I’m a narcissist” scene. While Loki is the type to crave attention--in Avengers, Tony calls him a diva who wants his name plastered to the skies--it comes from a place of feeling overshadowed, never able to match his brother Thor.  Which we can see has some basis:
In Thor 1, his adopted parents raised him to hate his race,
lied to him about it,
and when he was hanging over an wormhole, his father finally rejected him.
In Avengers, Thor tells him in  that his slights are “imagined”.
Thor 2, his adopted father told him his “birthright was to die”.
While it doesn’t excuse his actions in Thor and Avengers, it’s pretty clear that his family, particularly his father, have let him down.
So to make him experience character development and understand why he does what he does...the writers took him back to Asgard, and had Sif beat him up repeatedly until he admits he does terrible things because he’s a...narcissist.
It was pretty hard to watch that scene, especially because I related to Loki as someone who felt overshadowed and overlooked. He tried too hard to be what his family wanted, to show that he was “the worthy son”.
But here in the fantastic year of 2021, this show decided to throw away all of that emotional nuance away.
 9) The costumes were bad.
The brown variant jacket with its ugly orange block letters.
The guard suit on Lamentis looked like a cross between a purple sweater and a plague doctor mask. honestly makes me shuder to see it
Loki’s green-and-gold costumes are some of the most distinct, instantly recognizable outfits of the MCU. And he almost immediately loses it in the first episode. It ends being given to Sylvie, (like most of Loki’s better characteristics) and he stays in a detective skinny-tie suit instead. The costume is okay, but it lacks the flair and style he’s had previously, and he never gains it back.
10) The season finale really did showcase this show in the best way-- ig hype followed by disappointment.
For five episodes, we rushed towards the ultimate villain, the mastermind behind it all. Episode 6 was like...being handed a pack of bubble wrap, swinging your hand hard, expecting that satisfying pop! only to have it slowly putter out with a sad little sound.
First, Kang looked like he got his costume from Party City. The purple cape isn’t doing him any favors. Then, the man sat there and monologued for forty minutes, making jokes, telling us how he set the plot up, and how the multiverse worked.
I know Marvel gets flack for there always being an CGI climactic action scene, but…they had 6 episodes leading up to the Big Bad, and for it to end that anticlimactically with a man in a Party City purple cape was a letdown. The finale had no menace, no teeth. In the words of Mobius, it was just…talkie-talkie.
All in all, this show really suffered from ignoring Loki’s past, where he would realistically be emotionally-wise, and a lack of focus on its title character’s development. Settings and costumes being better/unique would be also be nice, especially given its popularity. At the end of the day, I don’t see the character I empathized so strongly with in this show.

Ok so! These are all alternate designs, if you want the official ones that I’ll be using, go here: https://fuumiku.tumblr.com/post/676095519737659392 I recommend reading the info I have on there first!  The first pic was my very first designs of them. As you can see, both have has some changes, but zim’s changed the most between the two. The second one is just if the back of Zim’s breasplate(?, idk how else to describe it tbh) was black instead of red, bc I think it’s neat. Third pic is a hue change, bc color is my biggest weakness and idk what I’m doing most of the time lol. In that one Gaz’s scheme is more blue and Zim’s is a bit more orangy. Last two pics are alt colors for Gaz’s suit, in the first her breastplate is darker and in the second it’s her body suit that is darker. I think it gives them an extra spice but I don’t want to overthink it
So, now that that’s out of the way! Here come all the details for those who like observations and rambling!
Misc explanations: Gaz’s eyelashes and eye sclera become bright purple when transformed. Untransformed, her eyelashes are just black, it’s stylistic more than anything. The color change is a nod to Adrien’s eye sclera becoming green as Chat Noir, plus it’s cool. Chat Noir kind of has a metal theme because of the pole and his bell along some other details, so I went with it here as well, I decided to go with a silver color rather than gold or any other metal because it fits both her current and original show color scheme more, even if her eyes are of a pretty molten gold color here. Gold just isn’t goth I’m sorry /j Zim’s pak is stuck in the suit/armor when transformed, so he can’t use it when he’s hero form. I think it makes sense + it evens out the battle odds and spices up the story more imo. I didn’t want Zim to have any of his human disguise on when transformed as a hero, because it just makes more sense to me. Both in Miraculous Ladbug and Invader Zim, the general population is oblivious even to obvious cues, so my story won’t act as if his green skin or anything else is super peculiar or a dead giveaway for his civilian self (except for Dib of course, wink).
Aesthetic things: Gaz’s design is kind of themed after the cheshire cat, since they’re both purple. Since Gaz feels more free as a hero, she can and will grin creepily at stuff before enjoying dooming them. This theme. The leather(?) lace in her hair represents the cat ears, of course, but also the tail, since it hangs pretty long behind her. At first, she wasn’t going to have stripes at all, going instead for a ripped suit with a lighter purple layer of cloth under, but when I pinned down the cheshire theme I decided to change it. She still has some ripped cloth on her thighs though, maybe I’ll take it out to simplify when making the comic. Imo the cat ears being an updo with black lace works better for her than, say, having a cat ears accessory pin in her hair, since it has a gothic vibe of sorts. Zim’s is pretty straightforward for this category. Yep, it’s a ladybug... Ladybug stuff going on here... Though I can note that I made the area around his eyes black so that his eyes can pop out more.
Nods to original designs: Gaz’s hair has always been a mix of sharp angles and curves, which makes it very fun to draw and stylize, and is also what gave me the idea for the hair-cat ears. Her miraculous, the cat skull bell, is a nod to her original skull necklace in the show, which she’ll be wearing in my comic as her civillian self! Gaz’s eye sclera may be purple, but her eye iris is orange with some yellow, because of her hazel eyes in canon, the color is exaggerated when in hero form. The stripes on her arms, and the stripe effect of her boots is a reference to her striped sleeves and pants in the show. Now Zim! His suit is kind of a mash between the ladybug hero suit, his usual invader outfit in the show and the tallests’ designs. The high collar and sharp gloves & boots are based on his usual outfit. His breastplate armor, though, is based on what the tallests wear, if you look at Tallest Red you can also see that the colors and the shoulder spots match almost perfectly. The stripes on his arms and belly are a mix of his invader outfit and the tallests belly hoop thingies. The nods to the tallests further solidify my name for Zim!Ladybug, “Overlord”, which I just find neat. On his back, the breastplate goes over his pak, making a ladybug wings-like bump. I wanted them to be black with red spots so it looks more like a pak, the number of spots + their position is to look more like a pak as well. The general pattern of having three spots per limb is also for this. The shape of his mask around the mouth area is meant to look like the irken logo’s mouth shape.
Functionality: In the show the superhero suits are mostly minimalistic and spandex, but I really wanted to give them some sort of armor, hence the breastplates. Gaz wearing millitary boots for fighting just feels right. Gaz also has steel toed boots shaped like a cat’s paw, so she can break bones and be cute <3 I’m unsure if the heels being steel as well was a mistake though, maybe it’s just ugly lol. I’ll be using a simpler style for the comic though so maybe I’ll just ditch it. Zim’s pak is also covered by his breastplate, so it’s mostly safe from being slammed. Since Zim canonically has no eyebrows, having the black part on his mask will really help me show emotions without it looking weird or breaking irken canon.
General color stuff:  Gaz’s “black” is heavily skewed towards a purple hue, for the cheshire them + it just harmonizes the design more imo. Zim ratio of black & red is more skewed towards black, especially compared to Ladybug’s hero suit from the show, as a nod that he’s more evil haha. Honestly Zim having pink teeth really fits well with his color scheme here imo.
Parallelism with colors: I kind of wanted them to have a different color hue to complement each other. Either Gaz being a more purple-blue and Zim a fire orange-red, Gaz representing cold colors and Zim, warm colors. Or and I decided to lean into this one more, a more pink-purple color scheme for Gaz, which would make her more warm with a reddish tint (Plus it fits the general hue of Disney’s animated cheshire cat), and Zim’s would be more a pink-red magenta, which is closer to his canon red color anyways, and it’d represent cold colours moreso. + it gives them a pink hue in common, which is great for harmonizing and color composition.  Their eyes also are a nod to each other somewhat. If you notice, Zim’s eyes have a pink hue highlight, leaning towards Gaz’s purple theme color, while Gaz has orange eyes, leaning towards Zim’s red. I’m just a sucker for them complementing each other haha
Hope you liked these explanations and that it gave you some insight! Most of this came to me instinctively, but it was fun to see just how much I could pick out from how I designed them. Will I revise everything I wrote to proofread? ... Nah

carmuel short story thoughts (spoilers):
- the first episode was comedic gold
- even if ooc sometimes, the way samuel was so smug was so funny (dont get me wrong some of them he'd definitely say but i feel like a ton of the lines were really wayy too overconfident for him)
- the classical music ruined the vibe of the sex scene sns
- carla kinda pissed me off like sorry but open up bitch (affectionate), i feel like it's always samuel who's fighting for her and even if it makes sense on some level i feel like they minimized the depth of her feelings for him that she showed in the previous seasons
- speaking of poor samuel, i love him and want all the best for him (then again also: stop talking sometimes)
- her not telling him about the shit with her father - ugh. forever bitter (=i need another 5 years later idcidc). i thought when he kept pushing about her parents she'd crack but they glossed it over and didn't deal with it at all which was the biggest shortcoming imo
- i love all their kisses aghh
- also they're both super hot
- the truth or dare scene was soo in character
- i'm kind of pissed they turned it into another christian situation? like i know it's pretty authentic and it would've come up eventually but tbh i feel like they invented a new (albeit realistic) issue and didn't let them deal with their main previous one
- still i'm forever grateful we got to see more of them and am inhaling every last crumb of this fanservice
- the closure is infinitely better than after the s3 finale
- my heart was shattered by the "i will always love you" and it's never gonna be the same
- (i legit feel like half of it was straight 10 fanfics mixed together lmao. imagine if they'd actually read them - for the record i know it's just bc everyone uses the same clichés and tropes but just imagine)
