major spoilers for mistborn book 1

okay now that ive finished the first book of mistborn, here are my thoughts:

kelsier, you crazy fucking genius are you KIDDING? that also was so heartbreaking to read (it felt like i was watching the scene unfold) and the note that he left Vin had me in tears

i knew there was something funky going on with the keepers and thought that the mention of the Lord Ruler’s jewelry was odd. but the fact that he’s a both a keeper and a mistborn, crazy. could there be more people like him? is Vin potentially one because of her natural instincts and talent?

elend coming thru in the end, love him. so curious to see how vin & elend move forward. also… does elend know that vin was the one who killed shan? that she was planning on killing him… let’s see if they talk about it in the next book

also that her brother died to protect her, heartbreaking. leads me to wonder if he was also a mistborn or was just a misting. seems to me even if you come from “pure blood” it’s not guaranteed that you’re a mistborn

the mistwraiths and kandras, terrifying. how many people could potentially be fakes?

ALSO FUCKING MARSH! my man went all in. love him now, feel bad that i thought he would betray the group. it’s just cuz he needed to go all the way to get an in. (also i looked up fanart of the steel inquisitors and was thinking they looked totally different, i pictured a human held up by like a steel exoskeleton)

Spook, definitely one of my favorite characters even though i have no fucking clue what he’s saying half the time. love him. MUAH

Onto prediction for the next book:

i have a feeling this one is definitely going to have a lot more political drama - with elend rising to the thrown and the economy of the city in disarray

will life truly get better for the skaa? the nobility and wealthy will still have power unless they start a spread the wealth campaign LMAO

will more Mistings come forward? more Mistborn? i have a feeling elend will come into play - no way he’s just some “normal” guy

what about this well of ascension? if the lord ruler truly didn’t ascend is there still an opportunity for it? is that why there’s no green paradise?

will vin become a face of the skaa rebellion? will kelsier’s image live on as a new god?

ATIUM what the fuck is gonna happen now? the production supply has been destroyed by kelsier. apparently the vault is empty.

Welcome to the Overworked Blorbo Battle Preliminary Round!

Many characters were submitted for this tournament so, in order to allow as many different blorbos into the bracket as I can, I’ve had to limit them to one per series. For most, i just included the most highly submitted character but there were a number of series with characters who had the same (or very similar) number of submissions. Therefore, I’ve created a preliminary round for you to vote on which character from each series gets to enter the bracket.

There will be 37 polls lasting 1 week each.

The polls will be separated into 3 waves. Each wave will be posted 24 hours after the previous.

The first wave will begin on Tuesday the 27th of June at 3PM BST

I've tried my best to only include official images for all of the characters on the polls but I'm not familiar with every series listed so, when the polls go up, if you notice I've used a fanart or cosplay image without permission or credit please let me know and I'll add credit and correct it for any future appearances of that character.

Imagery of Steel Inquisitors

[spoilers for Mistborn Era 1, I suppose] Recently finished era 1 of Mistborn last summer (yet to start era 2, trying to pace myself through the sanderson-verse/cosmere thing????) and I just wanna talk about my thoughts behind how characters looked and specifically changed through the story. Specifically, Marsh

Marsh, being Kelsier’s brother, made me reckon they’d be similar. I had in my mind that he was a brunette to Kelsier’s dirty-blonde, mainly an auburn, reddish-brown shade. In terms of build I imagine he’s built well, but not super buff or anything

This of course changed when he became a Steel Inquisitor. I imagined/headcanon'ed these fucking monsters being built like a 40k Space Marine. Huge as hell, almost engorged with muscle in a way that gives them the build of an un-plugged fridge. Dwarfing characters like 5-foot-weighs-100-lbs-soaking-wet Vin and a great deal few heads taller than characters like Ham (HC'd as tall and built like a strongman) and Sazed (HC'd as tall, but more willowy/lanky). At the end of The Final Empire Marsh'd be bald, I HC'd him sporting a bit of short hair growth in Well of Ascension, but I couldn't see him as sporting anything else than wearing a wild chestnut-brown mowhawk and short beard in Hero of Ages. I don't know why. I just did and it was great?

I was advised to avoid fanart for the books until after I read them by a friend (Wise friend, she is). That's when I saw that most depictions are much different than what I headcanoned. Outfits, spikes, and tattoos were good but it was the size that was the most different. They were jacked, ofc, but they weren't as monstrously massive as I had imagined.

I feel like the imagery I imagined... idk, fit more? Mostly on a subtle-body-horror thing going on with Mistborn era 1 and the logic behind some of their powers

IMO, some of the creatures in era 1 are ghoulishly scary. You can see bones of the corpse-eating mistwraiths through their skin. Similarly, Kandra eat people, wear their skins, and (when not wearing people bodies) wear bodies of stone and crystal. Koloss. GOOD LORD THE HULK SMURFS. The baby guys have flabby blue skin that tears and bleeds as they get bigger. And they're all creatures made with Hemalurgy. Steel Inquisitors make due in the body horror with the whole spikes thing, but them being the size of the average dude is not enough. I Need Them to be huuuuuge.

Plus, their immense strength comes from a combo of burning pewter and using the stored strength from feruchemy, right? Specifically with Feruchemy, we see in tFE that when Sazed taps into strength he gets jacked as well. I think hes described as growing taller due to it, but I don't have the books with me to double check. Either way, if they're constantly burning MAD GAINZ MAGIC™, I'd imagine they're roided out the wazzoo

I need more art of Steel Inquisitors to make them MONSTERS. The offical art and fan-art thats out there is (Chef's Kiss) beutiful, but I'd love to see this kind of take on steel inquisitors
