Summary: you are the only marine besides Jake who has any care for pandora outside a meal ticket. And now you want to go with him.

You walk down the halls to the scientists wing one of the few Marines that ever ventured there or even was liked by the scientists. You didn't know why they liked having you around Maybe it was your interest, genuine interest in their work the forest of Pandora the plants the place as a whole. You couldn’t deny this place was amazing you came here with nothing else to lose back from Earth and felt a sense of longing to know what you had to gain out there but you weren’t here for that you were here as a hired gun. But also you could live vicariously through your best friend Jake Sully…. You both became fast friends over the fascination of Pandora alone also you were just as idiotic as him when it came to impulse over deep thought. 

 You walk into the labs getting greeted by many there "hey y/n you have to catch up on your Navi you missed yesterday" Norm said in passing making you nod "yeah I know there was a meeting with the Colonel I couldn't ditch I'll come back by later" you say walking backwards not paying attention.

Unaware you were being stalked like prey as you walked backwards you felt yourself get swept off your feet and falling back into Someone lap "damn y/n you weigh a ton" a familiar voice groans. You roll your eyes laughing dryly "oh very funny lieutenant Dan" she mocks calling him the legless soldier from Forrest Gump. He pushes your back laughing "says the one with 2 working legs yet still trips over nothing"  you laugh and push his head to the side punching his arm "shut up that was like 2 or 3 times" they laugh as he wheels them over to their little corner to talk.

You listened to him with fascination as he recounted the things he did and saw as an omatikaya to be and his training. You would kill just to see it and would die to experience yourself. You could see the shine in his eyes as he spoke of his experiences and his time with the infamous Neytiri. "You like her Jake I can tell" you say still in his lap leaning against the wall as  you look around him. You laugh seeing him blush but say nothing. "That's not the point here Y/N" he laughs.

You smile and laugh "I know but honestly Jake you should enjoy it more…. It's better than here" you says you had grown sick of the constant kill kill kill we are at war…. A war we fucking started. You look up seeing Jake take your hand "the colonel on your ass isn't he" you sigh and groan "take me with you Jake" you mutters more to yourself than to him. Jake pushes your head over to look at him and you both share nothing but a series of expressions, something learned i the military to learn and read body language but you both perfected it out here seeing body language was more than a subtle sub language, it was a secondary to the first. Your eyes said it all, you did not belong there but here. Sure you’d seen war done some unforgivable things but this was different this violated any type of Geneva convention if that even existed. But you had your own morals and you weren’t a monster and the things the colonel was asking you to prepare to do was…monstrous.

Jake smiles at you sadly as he could relate to your emotions. He looks over to Grace who is doing an audio log “ Hey Grace could you think we could convince the tribe to let a friend of mine visit the village”. He watches you snap your head to Grace you looked almost ready to beg for the opportunity. Grace looked back at him and then to you as she stopped mid sentence. “ i think she knows enough Na’vi to be able to go you’d have to speak to the clan about it” she says giving you a even smile. 

You couldn’t contain your excitement at the possibility of being able to visit, your mentality had been shifting as things became tense at least in the military department. There were talks of shock and awe campaigns, blasting the home tree, even going for the tree of souls. You look down not wanting to dampen the mood or tell what was classified information know Grace would come at them with the wrath of a thousand suns. You quickly return to the subject. “ so I heard through th pandora grapevine that you are going to tame a banshee i say i want pictures but i want a detailed explanation of the event and don’t worry if I happen to make friends with Neytiri which I will, I will be getting her side of the story so i know the whole truth.” You laugh as you hear Jake groan, knowing that you’d never let him live it down just as you did with the Thanator incident. “I swear you are worse than tsu’tey when it comes to poking fun at me” he grumbles.

You look at him and smile “ what kind of friend and surrogate sister would i be if i didnt give you a hard time.” You tease as you stick your tongue out at him knowing soon you couldn’t disguise yourself you’d have to make a choice us or them. "Plus without me you'd be all brooding and boring" she pokes his his cheek as he wheels you both around the lab effectively brightening your continuously darkening days. 

This drabble was really cute I may start writing more for human Jake he's a sweetheart little bean. 

rambling about chapter 3! Under cut because spoilers and also long.

So, overall thoughts? I enjoyed this experience very much, although I feel some things could have been utilized or used better. Am I saying this because I wanted to see Catnap and the other Critters more? Kinda. I understand that this chapter was more back story oriented and not character oriented, and that kind of shows. But overall I won't complain toooooo much.

As far as everything else, it's good. We're getting into that now.

Let me talk about Catnap himself, or my nightmare baby as I've taken to calling him. Despite being under used for as much as he was hyped, I'm still very happy with his overall appearance. He's not actually a threat up until the end, but can be seen semi frequently throughout the chapter, constantly lurking and observing. Constantly stretching and contorting to find you wherever you may be. His legs are so stilted and stiff. Like fur stretched poorly over bones. As he's meant to be. His bones are visible, and it reminds me a bit of my own decrepit old cat.

As for his second form, I wish we saw a bit more of it. I can see a mix of inspirations in his design, obviously the Cheshire cat, but also the Caterpillar from Alice in wonderland, as guessed by his insect like appearance and the gas expelled, similar to how said caterpillar smoked and produced. I also see some xenomorph in there, looking at the tail and back, as well as his overall hunting patterns.

And for his "death", there's a good bit to be said, though I'm not sure how to word it. We didn't kill him at the end of his boss fight, rather just burned off all his fur. Although weakened he was still clearly alive. However he willing gave himself to the prototype, which given his character points make sense. Maybe the prototype gave him a less painful death than what we would have delivered, or perhaps he's not dead at all, not entirely anyway. He will hypothetically live on in the form of the prototype, but he could also be brought back in later chapters to some capacity Similar to huggy.

The rest of the Smiling Critters though, we do not know much about, apart from what we can gather from the audio in their cutouts. Which, while short, tell us a lot. The ones that stand out the most to me are Hoppy Hopscotch and Kickin' Chicken (who sounds like Ed). Also shout out to Picky Piggy. Cannibalism for the win! (Or maybe not, because its not the same species... hm.)

Hoppy sticks out to me due to how hopeless she sounds. It sounds like she's trying to calm someone (perhaps a child, unfortunately), into jumping "to the moon,". But if I had to guess, it wasn't actually to the moon and was instead a way out of the terrible situation, or maybe she really did think they could escape to the moon. However the last audio clip does have her screams, presumably as she falls to her death.

Kickin Chicken, though, is another story. The most obvious thing is that he's never actually been outside, mirroring the orphans, but it also mirrors his last moments before getting picked off just as he steps outside, possibly outside the playcare. This may have been during the hour of joy, but it also could have been at any time, something done to anyone who somehow escaped the playcare.

What really interests me is the cutouts that don't end in screams. This makes me wonder if Bobby Bearhug and CraftyCorn turned more violent then the others. This does include Picky Piggy, but that one is more obvious based on her audio.

Otherwise, we have Miss Delight. A robotic teacher, who as it seems, knows a lot about human organs. As all things should be. (/lh). It's also heavily implied she ate her sisters, and was highly violent and would have harmed the children if given the chance. If I had to guess, this was prevented by lights being on during the school as the light freezes her in place. She was also honestly under used, her encounter feeling a little too condensed. It's just one time, go go go, and then done. Once again I won't complain mush as this is a more lore oriented chapter.

Unfortunately this is why I have little to say on Poppy, Kissy, and Dog Day. As interesting as they were, Poppy was really just there as a lore vector, Kissy as an emotional grab, and Dog Day to... make us greatly uncomfortable? This isn't to say I don't like them, in fact, I love them! I just find myself wanting more, although maybe not of Dog Day because that was a nightmare on its own. Eugh.

What's really on me though is the overall lore. They really didn't pull any punches. Starting with the PT like section in home sweet home, in which the radios tell us about Elliott, and the child's body they found in his house that was missing bones and organs. You know it's probably on me for thinking he was chill, but. Uh. Damn man. Not cool. (Also shout out to that whole section for the hallucinations bit. Re-Village style, makes me very happy to see.). Of course, he was already dead and I suspect just as well he could have been set up by whoever took over the company.

The most viscerally upsetting thing is arguably the cribs in home sweet home. The broken and bloody toys inside them do not bode well. You look and just know something awful happened. And it did. This and one of the tapes in which a couple comes to pick up a child to adopt, only to find out he's been taken for testing. This paints an overall bleak and disgusting picture of the company, which is what we all suspected, but somehow even worse and more blatant. I'd say the whole hour of joy was warranted, in a way, minus the innocents that got caught up in it.

Aaaannnd there you have it! A very disorganized ramble about chapter 3. I overall had a great time! I can't wait to see how much worse/better it gets in the future.

Fallout 4 next gen update review

I played through all the quests once with my modded level 360 ss, Miss Tracey Love, on Xbox. This review will contain spoilers below the cut

I thought there was added perks, but I can’t find anything about that now. When I loaded the game up, I could spend 50~ of my unused levels, but I haven’t seen anything about it so it might be from a mod my boyfriend had installed or something. Will check my mods and update.

as far as I’m aware, nothing changed with the companions. This was really disappointing to me. I understand that it probably would have been expensive or difficult for them to have new lines recorded for everybody, but as it stands, no one has ANY kind of reaction to the Enclave showing up. Admittedly, I’ve been playing BG3 and I’m super into how fleshed out your companions feel in that game.

like they SHOULD have a reaction to sudden Enclave but I guess it probably wasn’t feasible. I think having unvoiced reactions would be better than no reaction, but I guess it’s fine.

As far as I’m aware, there is no voice acting in the entire update. You only ever talk to 1 npc (a shopkeeper who I believe was in the base game). There are notes-everyone in this update is writing everything down-and terminals.

To me, that doesn’t feel like Fallout, but I guess the update was free and I certainly didn’t expect any f4 updates this year.

The update added new power armor (3 suits I THINK), Tesla Canon, saw blade launcher, and piggy mine. I tried out the canon and it looked neat, but I didn’t use it much. I also don’t really use power armor.

I did like the de-capitalist helmet. Like it was probably my favorite part.

The update added a few new quests, one where you hunt enclave members, one where you investigate a hotel, one where you investigate a gunner radio, and one where there are makeshift weapons.

I liked the gunner radio quest and the AI hotel one best. The enclave quest and the hotel quest both gave me issues, as the hotel quest didn’t have any audio for the radio, and the enclave quest wouldn’t mark the enclave leader as having been killed. Got both quests done though.

did it patch any glitches? As far as I can tell, no. My game still crashes hard around lonely chapel or sunshine tidings so I still can’t get to Nuka World.

I liked some of the quests and I guess it was nice of them to do a random free update. It was nice to return to f4 in some ways. Thank you to the members of Creation Club who created the quests.

EDIT: tried to open up the mods menu and it crashed my game twice, love that for me

so I got a free one month trial of Audible and I cashed in my free credit on the audio version of Burn it Down, which is a new book by television critic Maureen Ryan. It focuses on Hollywood and the systemic abuse of power which exists behind the scenes of many fan-favorite movies and shows. Not just in the wake of the #metoo movement, but of all power imbalances, involving members of marginalized communities and the ones in charge, who are still mostly cis hetero white dudes. Is it a disappointing read? In many ways, yes.

There's account after account of awfulness, assistants being overworked and getting things thrown at them (and nothing happening because, well, that's just HoW ThINGs aRe), to racist remarks in the writers' room, to sidelining characters of color in Lost (which you can read about here in this excerpt). There are chapters focused on SNL and Sleepy Hollow, and I think the Sleepy Hollow details are only seeing light for the first time in this book. There's even a chapter on the Muppets series that ABC did, and the showrunner hated Miss Piggy as a character and shut down a writer who spoke up about how Piggy was being written and also SHUT DOWN THE MUPPETEERS WHO COMPLAINED THAT THEIR LINES WERE OUT OF CHARACTER

I've reached the section of the book devoted to discussing Star Wars and Marvel and how risk-averse studios are to making new and original media when they can just adapt IP from somewhere else that has a built in audience. Current Star Wars (the TV shows on Disney+) are being run by Jon Favreau and Dave Feloni (two white dudes) while the Cathy Jenkins project Rogue Squadron got canned and Taika Waititi's SW joint has been off the radar for forever, it seems. Marvel shows don't have showrunners, only head writers, and there's very little wiggle room for creativity when everything is overseen by a production committee. I think the book gives a lot of background on why the WGA is striking.

It's a disappointing and depressing book but I'm one of those weirdos who really wants to know about this sort of stuff so it's indispensable. I highly recommend it but many of the accounts of abuse are harrowing so tread carefully if you need to.

definitely didn't know the correct lyrics or that it was supposed to be miss piggy but yes i've seen a few videos of borzoi with this audio. it is pleasantly baffling but also it definitely fits the vibe. succinctly pathetic.
