Where ever you go, there you are: the myth of the whole new me
It would be so nice, wouldn’t it? If something as simple as a notebook could change our habits overnight. Those blank pages. The physical representation of our fresh start. It’s almost religious. A sense of being born again. And this time, I won’t screw it up (cut to credits).
But I always did: screw it up, that is. It didn’t take much, particularly with diet and exercise – an unplanned slice of office birthday cake, or a missed spin class. A week could go from “new me” to “write-off” in the blink of an eye, the remaining days a sordid opportunity to revel in my failure, until Monday rolled around and I could start again (again).
Perfectionism. Fresh startism. All-or-nothing. Perfectionists aren’t great at swimming through the murky grey of slow and steady self-improvement, the kind that leads to meaningful change. Where inertia or regression isn’t failure, and it doesn’t take a Monday to get going.
So we diet then binge, buy new stationery, sign up to a gym and swing wildly between our new and old selves, wondering when our real lives will finally begin.
It was a relief, honestly, discovering that I was simply a victim of my schema, lost in a sea of all-or-nothing thinking inspired by a problematic self-improvement discourse. That the shimmering, perfect-from-now-on self I was reaching for doesn’t exist, because her story keeps going after the credits roll. While change is possible, it’s rarely linear. Any pledge for self-improvement that assumes we can sever off our less desirable personality traits is a lie.
I finally finished my book, the one I wish I’d read as a teenager, about a girl who discovers imperfections are part of being human and learns to see the world with a little more nuance. The process of slowly but surely reworking the manuscript into something that isn’t perfect, but is wholly me, helped reframe my thinking about meaningful change.
Is there such a thing as a whole new me? I wouldn’t know. Most days, I’ve stopped searching for her.

G comme groupie (I could have kissed a girl and liked it)
Je suis tombée amoureuse de Carrie Brownstein au premier regard. Et si ça avait été dans la vraie vie, je suis persuadée que ça se serait passé comme dans cet épisode de Broad City où Ilana rencontre son doppelgänger dans la rue. Enfin, disons que j’aime bien m’en persuader. Et aussi que j’espère que vous regardez Broad City. Si vous ne le faites pas, sachez simplement que vous avez un sacré train de retard. Sur quoi ? Sur beaucoup trop de choses pour que je m’amuse à les lister ici. Mais la bonne nouvelle, c’est que vous pouvez toujours vous rattraper, magie du monde globalisé… Et enchaîner dans la foulée avec l’excellent Transparent. C’est là qu’elle était lorsque je l’ai rencontrée. Dans son rôle de Syd Feldman, probablement nonchalamment assise sur un canapé, sarcastique, pertinente, un rien cynique, élégante, lumineuse, séduisante… Désirable. Et je dois bien avouer que je n’avais jamais ressenti ça comme ça pour un personnage féminin au préalable.
L’homme, qui prend un malin et malsain plaisir à entretenir mes lubies de groupie pour que je le laisse vivre en paix avec les siennes, m’a alors procuré toutes les saisons de Portlandia et a déposé au pied de la Luxman tous les LP de Sleater-Kinney. Résultat : cela fait maintenant un petit moment que j’écoute No Cities To Love deux fois d’affilée deux fois par semaine minimum (dix morceaux, dix tubes massifs et fragiles à la fois, bouleversant) et que j’accepte de regarder tous les films avec Michael Shannon – le cinécrush de Monsieur – sans exception et sans poser de questions. Et si je devais faire le bilan (calmement) de ce tacite arrangement, je dirais que, petit 1., contrairement à la légende urbaine initiée par une personne très peu objective dont je tairai ici le nom, la simple présence de Michael Shannon au casting n’est pas capable de sauver n’importe quel scénario (cf. le mollasson Frank & Lola) et que, petit 2., contrairement à d’autres (et la liste est longue, croyez-moi), plus j’en apprends sur Carrie Brownstein, la femme, plus je me dis que j’ai raison de l’aimer.
Il y a quelques mois, entre un film où Michael Shannon livre des colis et un autre où il ouvre des portes, l’homme – toujours à la manœuvre – m’a offert Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl, les mémoires écrites par ma Carrie chérie. Google Alert et Instagram m’avaient bien entendu dit depuis longtemps qu’il était sorti, mais moi, j’hésitais encore à aller l’acheter… Pouvait-elle raisonnablement, en plus d’être si sexy et so preppy, s’avérer douée pour la musique, la comédie ET l’écriture ? La peur de la déception tant redoutée m’envahissait. Cependant, Internet semblait répondre par l’affirmative à ma question : oui, la belle savait écrire comme elle savait jouer, avec talent et générosité. J’entamais alors l’ouvrage rassurée mais néanmoins fébrile… Et je le reposais quelques jours plus tard, exactement dans le même état. Mais pour d’autres raisons, manifestement. Et principalement parce que ce livre m’a soufflée par son incroyable honnêteté. Il ne dit certainement pas tout, mais tout ce qu’il dit est impitoyablement exposé et décrypté. Carrie Brownstein n’y cache rien de ses fêlures ou faiblesses, et évoque la création, l’évolution et la désintégration de Sleater-Kinney sous une lumière peu flatteuse, celle de la vérité violente et toute crue, offrant au passage une vue plongeante sur les méandres de sa complexe personnalité.
Ses mots m’ont touchée, aussi. Comme mon instinct pouvait me le laisser imaginer, on partage certaines similarités. Pas forcément des plus jolies à regarder. En face, du moins. Pas les plus inavouables non plus, faut pas exagérer. Mais (attention, soft spoiler alert) cette façon qu’elle a d’abord d’identifier puis d’accepter les traits les plus sombres de sa nature profonde m’a méchamment secouée. Ouais, c’est tout con et ça peut paraître plutôt obscur dis comme ça, mais c’est vrai : il est des vérités contre lesquelles il est inutile de lutter. Je sais pas, c’est peut-être l’âge qui fait ça… On a à peu près le même, Carrie et moi (argh, « Carrie et moi », c’est fort probablement la seule et unique fois que j’aurais l’occasion d’écrire ça), et depuis que j’approche de la quarantaine, force est de le constater, je m’efforce plus que jamais à faire preuve d’honnêteté. Envers les autres, bien sûr, même si le nouveau reflet que je renvoie au monde n’est pas forcément reluisant, puis envers moi, surtout. C’est désagréable, c’est éprouvant ; cependant, charité bien ordonnée commence par soi-même, la sagesse populaire a raison. Mais enfin, ça, c’est la partie émergée de l’iceberg, hein ! Parce qu’après, plus moyen de faire machine arrière ! Une fois que l’on sait qui on est, comment continuer à faire des choix de vie malhonnêtes ? Foutu casse-tête…
En plus ou moins trois ans, tous ceux que j’ai pris ont été radicaux. Certains ont été faciles à opérer, d’autres plus douloureux et compliqués à gérer. Et comme pour l’Américaine qui fait battre mon cœur (de rocker), c’est souvent mon corps qui a capitulé avant mon cerveau. D’ailleurs, avec un peu de recul, je suis ébahie par tout ce que j’ai pu psychosomatiser et aussi stupéfaite de la ténacité avec laquelle j’ai pu me mentir à moi-même sur différents sujets pendant de longues années. Le livre de Carrie Brownstein, quant à lui, est décidément arrivé au bon moment : celui d’entériner certaines décisions. Pas comme hésiter entre un film où Michael Shannon porte une valise et un autre où il lèche des timbres… Non, plutôt du genre choix cruciaux. Mais loin de moi l’idée de vouloir noircir le tableau ; depuis que j’ai entamé cette longue introspection, une chose est certaine : plus le temps passe, plus je vis facilement avec moi. Et notamment avec deux ou trois spécificités que j’ai trop longtemps essayé de réprimer ou de nier. Serait-ce ce qu’on appelle la midlife crisis ? Peu importe le nom qu’on veut bien donner à tout ça, Carrie et moi (*soupir*), finalement, on s’en sort pas si mal que ça.
Bon, c’est bien beau tout ça, mais très rapidement, deux nouveaux problèmes se sont posés à moi. Le premier : que lire désormais ? J’en voulais plus et j’avais déjà écumé toutes les interviews données par l’auteure lors de la promotion de ce petit livre déclencheur. Le second : comment écrire maintenant ? Comment reprendre le clavier sans plomber l’ambiance après une telle démonstration d’intégrité ? Ma vie est loin d’être aussi passionnante, c’est un fait et vous l’avez bien entendu déjà remarqué, surtout si c’est le premier post de ce blog que vous lisez, mais – vous l’avez peut-être aussi noté – cela fait maintenant un petit moment que j’ai du mal à traîner par ici. Pas parce que je n’écris pas ou plus, mais parce que j’en arrive invariablement à remiser les textes rédigés, à juger les sujets trop personnels, les points de vue difficilement défendables, le lieu inapproprié. Quand j’écrivais sur mon ancien blog, dans un anonymat quasi parfait, j’avais vingt-cinq lecteurs, dont une grande partie de parfaits inconnus avec lesquels je prenais plaisir à échanger. Depuis que je partage mes billets sur Facebook, la donne a sensiblement changé : j’ai une cinquantaine de lecteurs, mais je ne me suis jamais autant autocensurée. La belle affaire, hein ! N’empêche que, le temps passant, cette histoire a commencé à sérieusement me turlupiner : comment concilier intelligemment intimité et publicité ? J’avais des choses que j’avais envie de raconter, mais aucune envie de devoir crier « MAIS CRÉÉE TON PROPRE BLOG, BORDEL DE MERDE ! » à tous les Leprechaun qui passeraient par là…
La liberté d’expression sur les réseaux sociaux, vaste et vide débat… Mais quoi qu’il en soit, c’est là, alors que je ne m’y attendais absolument pas, que mon premier problème est venu solutionner le second. À la question « Que lire maintenant ? », la faim me tiraillant méchamment, j’ai fini par faire au plus simple et en l’occurrence, à prendre le premier livre sur le haut de la pile en instance, juste là sur ma table de chevet. Le challenger : Le Premier méchant, premier roman de Miranda July (amie de Carrie, tiens donc), lui-même offert pour mon anniversaire par une amie (Laetitia, encore merci !). Je ne veux rien vous spoiler, mais je dois avouer que les premières pages m’ont largement déstabilisée. Puis je me suis laissée faire par cette histoire un peu loufoque avant de me retrouver complètement scotchée, tant l’ouvrage m’est apparu d’une saisissante modernité. D’abord dans la forme (et notamment dans les libertés que prend la narration), puis dans le fond : outre les sujets évoqués (la féminité, la solitude, le couple, le genre, les fantasmes, la maternité…), j’y ai retrouvé cette cruelle et désarmante autant que fascinante acuité envers soi que Carrie Brownstein semblait avoir érigé pour elle et moi (fait chaud d’un coup, là, non ?) au rang de nécessité, bien qu’il s’agisse d’une fiction. Miss July avait peut-être raison, et mon salut pourrait bien passer – pourquoi pas – par un changement radical de format.
Dissimuler l’intime au cœur de la fiction, j’y avais déjà beaucoup pensé, sans jamais réussir à échafauder un plan cohérent, juste quelques idées, quelques fragments, rien de bien convaincant… Mais poussée dans mes retranchements, j’ai fini par décider de me lancer sans filet. Enfin, sans chute, quoi. Une première pour moi. Un peu comme Balzac (toutes proportions gardées, évidemment), sans réellement savoir où cette petite histoire fantaisiste de superstitions et procrastination me mènerait, j’ai rédigé trois chapitres à la troisième personne, laborieusement mais vaillamment… Avant de me retrouver complètement coincée. Puis de commencer un deuxième texte, à la première personne celui-ci, histoire d’évacuer une fois et pour toute une thématique qui me hantait. En tout, une douzaine de pages A4 bien tassées pour ce premier jet. Soit une taille tout à fait acceptable pour une nouvelle (à partir de 7 500 mots environ, à ce qu’il paraît). Et autre nouveauté, je n’avais jamais écrit quelque chose d’aussi développé. Alors, bien entendu, c’est loin d’être terminé ; ce morceau-là me demanderait encore plusieurs relectures et réécritures… Et je ne sais combien de temps pour l’affiner. D’autant plus que depuis, je suis passée à la deuxième mouture de la première histoire commencée. J’ai déjà réécrit la moitié des trois premiers chapitres deux fois, ébauché le suivant, manqué de temps… Écrire au long cours, c’est complètement différent et pour le moment, je n’en suis qu’à prendre la température de l’eau du bout des pieds, timidement. Puis la suite, vous la connaissez : je suis venue m’épancher ici…
Bon, vous voilà bien avancés, hein ! Je vous ai écrit toute une tartine pour vous refiler une piètre excuse quant à mon manque d’investissement en ces pages et vous parler de deux textes pas terminés que vous ne lirez peut-être jamais… Mais si vous avez suivi cette longue digression sans intérêt jusque là, je ne vais pas vous laisser comme ça. Une petite moralité capillo-tractée, ça vous dirait ? Alors, qu’est-ce qu’on a appris aujourd’hui ? Qu’outre m’avoir permis d’accepter ma véritable nature de cheveux (ce qui a littéralement changé ma vie de fille, sans plaisanter), mon obsession pour Carrie Brownstein m’a fait réaliser que : petit 1., j’aurais pu être avec une fille et aimer ça (Sainte Katy, priez pour moi) ; petit 2., il n’est jamais trop tard pour bien faire (si j’ai de la chance, ça me laisse encore une bonne moitié de vie devant moi pour ça) ; petit 3., quand on accepte qui on est, c’est beaucoup plus simple de savoir vers où on veut aller. Est-ce que les coïncidences arrivent par pur hasard ou est-ce qu’on les provoque inconsciemment ? Est-ce que le simple fait d’être fan peut apporter autant de satisfactions ? Carrie Brownstein a écrit de très jolies lignes à ce sujet pour je ne sais plus quel magazine en ligne que je vous encourage néanmoins à chercher à consulter. Pour ma part, je conclurai en vous disant qu’on ne devrait toujours aimer que de cette façon : sans rien attendre en retour et inconditionnellement.
Et puis du coup, j’imagine que je vais voir encore beaucoup de films avec Michael Shannon, fatalement…

BACOLOD CITY – The Provincial Incident Management Team (PIMT) here has declared 59 areas in 14 local government units (LGUs) in Negros Occidental as coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) "hot zones" and placed them under a 14-day total "lockdown".
Alfredo Benitez, the Capitol consultant for trade and investment promotions and member of PIMT, said on Monday the provincial government is taking this extra measure to prevent the transmission of the virus while the province is under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) from March 30 to April 14.
"We are adopting (this) to restrict more movements. These barangays are high-risk areas and we want the residents of these areas to be extra careful. That's why we're placing them under 'hot zones' for what we call extreme ECQ. We are declaring it right now," Benitez said in a press conference with Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson held at the Capitol Social Hall.
Under the "Bantay Negrense" campaign, a "hot zone" is a street or a barangay where either one positive case or one patient under investigation (PUI) resides, or at least five individuals have been officially declared as persons under monitoring (PUMs).
Based on the list provided by the Provincial Health Office, as of 3:45 p.m. on Monday, each of the 59 identified areas had one or more PUIs.
Benitez said in "hot zones", where a "lockdown" is implemented, all exemptions granted under the ECQ are canceled and the home quarantine passes of residents are suspended.
"We will make sure the 'hot zone' is properly monitored by the local government. We will ensure that nobody leaves home quarantine. They will be under total lockdown. Basic necessities will be delivered to them," he added.
As of March 29, the province had one positive Covid-19 case, with 188 patients under investigation and 16,335 persons under monitoring.
Identified as "hot zones" in Bago City are Purok Camatis, Barangay Pacol; San Esteban Subdivision, Phases 2 and 4, Barangay Lag-asan; Purok Masinadyahon, Barangay Lag-asan; Purok Kanlaon, Barangay Don Jorge Araneta; Purok Violetas, Barangay Balingasag; Purok Kalubihan, Barangay Tabunan; Purok Kalubihan, Barangay Bacong; Purok Humay, Barangay Napoles; and Ma. Elena, Barangay Dulao; Binalbagan -- Zone 4 and Sitio Pucatod, both in Barangay Payao;

Halnya Silahturahmi Jajaran Redaksi merupakan salah satu bentuk memperkenalkan Media Online begitu juga Jajaran Redaksi Trans Publik.co.id serta sekaligus menyerahkan berkas-berkas Surat secara administrasi kelengkapan Media Online Trans Publik.co.id, yang memiliki berbadan hukum lengkap dan diterima dengan sangat baik oleh Kasubbid Penmas Humas Poldasu AKBP Mangatar Pardamaian (MP) Nainggolan.
Disamping itu beliau AKBP MP Nainggolan memaparkan binaan pencerahan serta bincang-bincang dengan penuh keakraban dan sertai canda tawa diiringi dengan berbagi pengalaman bersama Kru Jajaran Redaksi Mewujudkan Sinergi yang memiliki Keharmonisan serta juga pencerahan berinspirasi yang penuh apresiasi, bincang-bincang Kasubbid Humas Polda Sumut beliau AKBP MP Nainggolan bersama Jajaran Redaksi Media Trans publik.co.id.
Hal tersebut kelanjutan imbuhnya Kasubbid Humas Polda Sumut beliau AKBP MP Nainggolan, memaparkan dengan rasa harmonis untuk mengirim penempatan tugas Jurnalis (wartawan) sebagai wartawan unit Polda Sumut serta secara bentuk surat tugas yang diterbitkan oleh Pemimpin Redaksi Media, sebagai wartawan unit Polda Sumut dari Media Trans Publik.co.id,” tutur AKBP MP Nainggolan selaku Kasubbid Penmas Humas Polda Sumut.
Dengan halnya akan dipersiapkan Jurnalis (wartawan) dari Media Trans Publik.co.id yang memiliki Keprofesionalan, Etika, serta bersinergi halnya fungsi program kerja Kemitraan tersebut.
Dengan demikian Jajaran Redaksi dengan kunjungan undangan tersebut, mewakili dari pada yakni Masdar Tambusai SAg
(Pembina/Penasehat), Rakerhut Situmorang SH MHum (Penasehat hukum/Lawyer dan rekan), Wapemred I Media (Adi Miranda Pasaribu S.Psi, Wapemred II Media (Irwan Manalu, SS).
Begitu juga Kru Boks Redaksi para Staf Redaksi, Korlip (Kordinator Liputan) serta para Kabiro, baik Kabiro Binjai (John Hutagalung), Kabiro Dairi (Mayor Herwindo Hutagalung), Kabiro Nias (Temazisokhi), Kabiro Nias Utara (Antonius Zalukhu), Kabiro Deli Serdang (M. Yusuf), Kabiro Siantar (Sony), Korwil Sumut (Tumbur Simanjuntak) dan Para Jurnalis (wartawan) Media Trans Publik.co.id.
