Seamless -Chapter One
In my mind, Maggie wouldn’t be very cold and calculating towards her daughter, so if you feel that her personality is a little off in this, just remember what the setting is and everything that she and Hal have been through and that it is her child, so she treats her as such.
Set around six or so years after the skitters have all gone. The world is not completely restored, but they have rebuilt certain areas and cities with basic needs and necessities.
Summary: The nightmares seems to disappear with mommy and daddy near. In which Hal and Maggie's daughter seems to sleep better with her mommy and daddy than in the big scary room where the skitters could be lurching about.
2 a.m.
“Mommy,” A tiny whisper traveled through the quiet of the Mason’s large home with no answer.
Second try, “Mommy,” Still no answer.
One last try, this time a little louder. “Mommy.”
Finally, after three hushed attempts at waking her sound asleep mother she had had enough and decided to attack the task of climbing onto her snoozing mommy and daddy’s towering bed. She tugged on the sheets, using them as a rope to propel her small, four year old body on top of her mom.
“Becca, what are you doing? It’s-” Maggie paused to look at the numbers displayed on the digital clock that was located on her nightstand. “- two o’clock in the morning.” During this exchange, Hal sat up and switched on the lamp that sat on his nightstand; his face blanketed with looks of sleepy confusion.
“I had a scary dream.” Becca explained in a trembling voice.
“Oh Becca, what was it about? Do you remember?” Maggie questioned her shaken daughter in the kindest voice she could muster.
“Aliens. Scary green things with lots of legs took me away from you and daddy.”
Maggie looked rattled at the thought of her precious daughter being tormented by the same vile creatures that tortured Hal and herself not so long ago. Hal, not missing a beat, snatched his daughter from Maggie and settled her between Maggie and himself before he spoke up.
“Becca, you know they’re gone. They were gone long before you came around, and they aren’t coming back. Besides, even if they did, mommy and I would never let anything happen to you.” He nestled up closer to her, and a giggle escaped the little girl’s mouth at the rough feeling of the scuff on her daddy’s face rubbing her smooth one. “We would do anything to protect you. We love you so much!”
“But daddy, they were not nice at all. They need to listen to their mommy’s and daddy’s more about manners and being polite. You do not take things without asking, especially little kids! That’s not nice at all!”
That statement had Maggie snuggling her daughter with a grin on her face, and small snicker leaving her mouth. She was proud to call the little girl she held in her arms her daughter. She and Hal had tried to raise her the best they could, even naming their daughter after the beloved Rebecca Mason in hopes of her becoming as incredible a woman as she had been.
When Maggie discovered the news of her pregnancy, she decided then and there that the only quality she wanted her daughter to take from her was her strength. That was all. No coldness, No drug problems, No young, unplanned pregnancy, and No cancer. She wanted her daughter to be carefree, free-spirited, bubbly, and sweet. By the looks of it, Maggie would have nothing to worry about. At only four years old, Becca was already the sweetest little thing. She was polite -always saying her please and thank you’s, and she knew right from wrong.
Of course, she was still a Mason, so she was a mischievous little thing, but it was to be expected with all the time she spent with the three men she called her uncles and daddy.
With one final yawn, Maggie said sleepily to her daughter as she drifted back into a deep slumber, “Becca, you’ll be perfectly safe with your dad and me here. You will never have to worry about those ugly green things again."

Fighting is for Skitters, Not Your Classmates
Disclaimer: I do not own Falling Skies or any of the characters.
Set during the seven months we didn’t get to see. I know there’s a scene at the end of season two with Tom, Anne, and Matt sort of like this, but whatever.
Summary: Matt is having trouble at school, but Tom and Anne are nowhere to be found, so Hal and Maggie are called in to tell him the importance of going to school and not fighting. “Maggie sat down with him on the end of the bed and proceeded to explain to Matt that, “Fighting is for the skitters, not for your classmate.””
------
Maggie had been standing at the border of Charleston pretty much all day on patrol, and she was bored. Nothing interesting had happened. No alien activity, and no new faces had shown up.
“Maggie May, you and your boy-toy are being called to the kid’s school.” Pope yelled while he was approaching the barricade.
Hal looked over his shoulder wondering what Pope was yelling about. “What are you talking about, Pope?”
“Your little brother, Matt; apparently he isn’t the perfect Mason kid.”
“Pope seriously, why do we have to go to the school?” Maggie finally walked over and asked after being annoyed by this conversation.
Pope gave the two of them an annoyed look and replied, “Why would I know? All I know is I was coming up the stairs from the cafeteria on my way over here and Weaver told me to tell you guys that the kid’s in trouble at school.”
Maggie looked over at Hal, and they silently agreed to head on over to the school.
------
Once Hal and Maggie got down to the schooling area, the teacher walked out of the room with Matt.
“Matt, what did you do?” Hal questioned looking at his younger brother who had a black and a cut lip. Fighting wasn’t something that Matt would normally do.
He had changed a lot since the 2nd Mass had arrived in Charleston. He was getting into fights, making bad grades, and goofing off around Charleston. Hal suspected it had a little something to do with the fact that their dad was too busy to discipline and watch out for him.
Matt looked at Hal and Maggie with a shameful look, “This kid in my class was talking about dad being a bad president, so I punched him.”
“Matt,” Hal and Maggie both groaned out in sync.
“He is suspended for the rest of the week, and he must write an essay about our system of government in Charleston.” The teacher interrupted.
Hal turned in his chair and was already rolling away when he replied. “Alright, let’s go Matt”
Maggie put her hand on Matt’s shoulder and guided him towards the barracks. Once there, Maggie held the door open while Hal rolled his chair into their room, and Matt followed behind him silently. “Sit,” Maggie said motioning towards the end of her and Hal’s bed.
Now that Matt was at the same eye level as his older brother, Hal looked him in the eye. “This fighting needs to stop Matt.”
“He said that when dad got taken last year, the aliens messed him up, and soon he’s going to ruin Charleston!” Matt defended.
After watching Hal and Matt go back and forth a few time, Maggie decided it was time to step in. She sat down with him on the end of the bed and proceeded to explain to Matt that, “Fighting is for the skitters, not for your classmate.”
Hal turned his wheelchair to face the door, so that Matt didn’t see the grin that had spread across his face. Hearing Maggie say this made Hal snicker. Once Hal had a straight face again, he turned his chair back around again.
Hal was happy to have someone in his life that not only loved and cared for him, but also loved and cared for his family. Maggie may have had a troubled past, but in the end, it shaped her into what she is today, and Hal was happy for that.
“Alright Matt, your punishment is to write that paper and work the food line in the cafeteria for two weeks.”
“But Ms. Smith didn’t say anything about working in the cafeteria!” Matt protested.
“No, I did. It’s only for a few days.”
“Come on Matt. You know you’re getting off easier with us than you would with your dad and Anne.” Maggie interjected while ruffling his hair.
“Fine, I guess you’re right. Thanks for not calling dad.”
“No problem bud. What do you say Matt, you think it’s time we show Maggie here how the Mason family likes to end a day?”
“Monopoly! I’ll get the board!” Matt exclaimed excitedly.
After Matt ran out towards the room he shared with Ben to grab the board game, Hal wheeled closer to Maggie. “You know, this game is very special to the Mason family. We don’t just let anyone play monopoly with us.”
Maggie sat on Hal’s lap so that she was at eye level with him. “Oh really? She asked quietly.
“You know what that means?”
“Nope, enlighten me.”
Before Hal and Maggie had a chance to finish their conversation, Matt burst through the door with the board game in his hands. “I got it. Let’s Play!”
Hal grinned up at his little brother. “Game on little man!”
------
After about an hour and a half of an intense game of Monopoly, the trio decided to take a small break. Matt left to go to the bathroom a couple minutes ago, and Hal decided to finish his conversation with Maggie.
“Playing monopoly with Matt and I means that you are officially apart of the Mason family.”
Maggie looked up from studying the board with a sly smile. “What if I don’t want to be a part of it?”
“Too late,”
“Oh really?”
“Yep,” Hal answered. “The second you picked up the little silver game piece, you made a commitment.”
Maggie gave Hal a smirk. “I guess you’re right.”
Hal leaned over and shared a sweet kiss with her; just short enough to be over before matt walked back into the room. “Let’s finish what we started!”
Matt had passed out on Hal and Maggie’s couch about an hour ago, but Hal and Maggie being the competitive people they were, decided to finish the game anyways. It took them four hours, late into the night, to finally finish the game after Matt had fallen asleep. After Maggie won, and Hal pouted, Maggie draped a blanket over Matt, and she and Hal crawled into bed exhausted.
The next morning, Hal and Maggie were off duty, so they slept in. Around mid-morning, they woke up to Matt messing around in Hal’s wheelchair. “Matt, what are you doing?” Hal questioned sleepily.
“Popping wheelies,” Matt simply replied.
“Alright, well bring me my chair so we can all go get some breakfast.”
“I bet could beat you in a wheelchair race.” Matt exclaimed after giving Hal his chair.
“Yeah, we’ll see about that, one day.” Hal scoffed.
“I’m glad I never had siblings.” Maggie laughed a little bit while getting out of bed. “Now get dressed, I’m hungry.”
The three walked through the underground halls towards the cafeteria, collected their breakfast in the food line, and sat down.
A few minutes into breakfast, Matt looked up from his oatmeal slowly, and quietly mumbled, “Thanks,”
“What for, Matt?” Maggie asked, putting her spoon down.
“For not calling dad yesterday,” Matt explained. “I’m glad Ms. Smith called for you guys.”
“So are we.”

All He Wants Is Happiness
Disclaimer: I do not own Falling Skies or any of the characters.
The first time Tom met Maggie, she was aiming a loaded gun at him and his group of fighters. He knew she held a threat to him and his fighter, but he was more worried about the man named Pope who was speaking about killing them all. However, he knew she was a fighter; he had tried to find her flaw; he wanted to know what made her weak, but all he saw was a strong young woman ready to fire without regret.
Tom was a little worried when Pope called the girl over to escort Hal back to the 2nd Mass to tell Weaver about this new threat and the supplies that they wanted. This girl, Maggie, was obviously a strong young woman who knew what she was doing with her weapon, but he knew his eldest son could handle it. He hoped.
Later that night, he learned all that she had done to help the captured bunch, and get them back to the 2nd Mass. Maggie had all the traits of a fighter, strong, calculating, determined, and intelligent. If she wanted into the 2nd Mass she was welcome.
-----
During the time of his absence, he worried about his boys like crazy. He knew that Anne would watch after them until he got back, but he didn't expect for Maggie to do the same. When he came back after three months, he noticed a new dynamic between Hal and Maggie.
They were no longer just partners, even if they didn't realize it, Tom did. They would laugh and joke around with each other, and always had each other's back on a different level than usual partners would.
Before Tom had been taken, Hal had still been torn up over his girlfriend being harnessed by the overlords. When Tom came back, he saw glimpses of Hal's old charismatic self. Tom guessed that Hal got it through his thick skull that it was going to be harder to get her back than it was for the other harnessed children. He also guessed that Maggie had a little something to do with his good mood. It was obvious that Hal had turned to Maggie for support during Tom's three month absence.
Tom saw how the two of them acted together. He saw the side of Maggie that Hal brought out and vice versa. He saw the way the two would sit together, laugh, smile, and talk about anything and everything. You rarely saw Hal and Maggie separated. Between fighting the skitters, patrolling, and figuring out the 2nd Mass' next move, you could always find the two of them sitting together near the hot pot of coffee, or talking on some fallen tree in the middle of the nearest woods.
Tom watched on as Maggie denied Hal’s every advance. He saw the look in his son's eye. He knew Hal, and he knew that he wanted Maggie as more than a partner.
At first, he didn't know how he felt about their budding relationship. Maggie was considerably older than Hal with a troubled past. However, Tom liked Maggie. She was a great fighter, and even with that cold, calculating exterior, he knew there was a kind, caring girl inside that very few people got to see. He just wasn't sure that she was right for his teenage son.
-----
The first morning that the 2nd Mass was settled in the hospital with clean beds, electricity, and new equipment, Hal had overslept and missed Weaver's early morning briefing. Sure, Hal was still just a teenager; he didn’t like to get up early in the morning to go to a boring meeting, but it was very unusual for him to miss one.
Those days, Tom seemed to forget that Hal was a teenager. Before all of this alien nonsense, he went to high school, played lacrosse, and procrastinated on his homework just like most Boys his age.
Anyways, after the meeting, Tom had a couple hours before he was on duty, so he went looking for Hal. He checked the hospital room that Hal had been assigned, the cafeteria, and outside of the hospital but still came up missing. Having given up, Tom decided to go back to his room and rest for a little while before duty called.
He passed by several rooms on his way back to his, but one caught his attention more than the others. Taking a peek through the window of this certain door, Tom saw Maggie asleep in the hospital bed with a sleeping Hal slumped forward in a chair with his head lying on Maggie’s shoulder with their hands intertwined. He knew he should wake Hal, but he just couldn’t bring himself to do it.
-----
Right before the 2nd Mass left for Charleston, Tom learned that Hal and Maggie had indeed created a relationship outside of the partnership level. Tom was happy for his eldest son. After seeing them together for over a year, Tom realized that the age difference, personality differences, and anything else didn’t matter.
Everyone deserved a chance at love, and Tom was glad that Hal found it in such a messed up world. Hal deserved to have something that made him happy, and if Maggie was what made Hal happy, then so be it.
-----
After a while in Charleston, the 2nd Mass started to become accustomed to the ways of the new capitol, and learned the ways of their new allies, The Volm. Life for Tom had been a hard. Charleston wanted him as the new President, the Volm had big weapon plans, and to top it all off, Hal woke up one morning paralyzed from the neck down.
Tom became busy with his presidency job, and slacked in his parenting job. He was very passionate about building the new capital, and beating the espheni.
Looking back now, he has realized that putting Charleston ahead of his family, especially in a time when his family needed him was the worst move he could make. Matt was having behavioral issues, Ben was feeling lost in his role of the army of Charleston, and Hal was paralyzed.
Tom wished he could say that he was the one to help Hal through his paralysis, but he wasn't. Maggie was.
Over time, it became apparent that Maggie was more than just, “Hal’s girlfriend”; she had become a part of the Mason family. She watched out for and protected Ben and Matt like an older sister would do for their younger siblings, and she took care of Hal in his time of need.
When Maggie had a break from perimeter duty, she would go down to the infirmary and talk to Anne. With Anne and Tom’s baby due in a few months, Anne needed someone to talk to who could relate to being pregnant in the wrong place at the wrong time. For Maggie, being pregnant in prison was hard; for Anne, being pregnant and fighting aliens in a post-apocalyptic world was even harder.
In between Tom’s busy schedule, he watched as Maggie took care of Hal, watched over Ben and Matt, and kept Anne company. Tom was so grateful for Maggie and all that she did for his family.
-----
When Hal turned evil and kidnapped Tom, Tom thought he would be able to talk Hal through the evil, but he quickly realized that it would not be so easy. He saw glimpses of Hal trying to come through, but no matter what he did, he couldn’t gain full control. When Maggie snuck into the room he noticed a change in Hal.
Tom had watched Hal and Maggie these past two years, especially in this past year, he saw the spark that was lit in Hal whenever Maggie walked into the room. When Maggie walked through that door, Tom felt a change in the situation; things became more intense, but he knew Maggie could talk Hal through whatever was inside of him.
After they got to the infirmary, Tom stood beside Maggie watching as Lourdes and a team of doctors extracted whatever bug was inside Hal. When Tom first met Maggie, she was strong and calculating. The girl standing next to him was not the same person he had seen two years ago. Tom saw Maggie as a part of his family now, and as much as it broke his heart to stand behind that glass watching and listening to the agonizing screams of his son, it hurt just as much to stand beside a teary eyed Maggie.
-----
In the end, the only thing that mattered was that Hal and Maggie found happiness in this messed up world, and Tom was glad for that.
Tom just wanted happiness for his some, and he knew that Maggie was the right girl for Hal.
