Mini Silverborn Countdown

If you’ve been around for a few years, you’ve seen me vaguely mention a “Silverborn Countdown Challenge” several times. It’s been delayed and changed as many times as the book itself, lol.

If anyone wants sort of a low-stakes, very chill and spaced out version of this ye olde never tackled challenge to complete in the next year before Silverborn, I propose what I’m doing:

Okay listen. As a die-hard 2ha fan I can only recommend everyone who loves 2ha and Ranwan to read case file compendium (bing an ben/bab), another danmei by Meatbun.

Even though it's not set in a typical cultivation world but in our modern world (with some sci-fi elements), it shares a lot of similarities with 2ha. If you love one thing (and don't mind the TWs ofc), you will also love the other thing.

Hexie feels like Ranwan reincarnated into another AU. What used to be shizun and disciple is now (ex)doctor and (ex)patient. He Yu is basically going through the 0.5 to 2.0 phases like Mo Ran lol. And let's not forget Xie "Let me sacrifice myself for others again" Qingcheng... You know it's a Meatbun novel when a 20 year old boy with a pretty face falls for a traumatised middle-aged man.

The characters, the plot, the suspense, the suffering... I cried a little... A lot. (Yes, I love angst.) Reading case file compendium felt like reading 2ha for the very first time again :)

just finished my third (?? fourth??) reread of AFTG, and i have a lot of thoughts, but right now i want to talk abt kevin and neil

"One of us has to make it, Mom." The way Neil idolizes Kevin. The way he loves to see Kevin play and win and improve. How excited he was when he saw Kevin using his left hand again, and how he was even more excited when Kevin covered the old tattoo. How he always called Kevin out for his cowardice, how he always let Kevin know when he was disapointed with him. Because one of them had to make it, and it had to be Kevin. Kevin had to survive and live and conquer the world, bc Neil put all his dreams and expectations in him. Making sure Kevin learned how to stand on his own legs, making sure Kevin would become the icon Neil knew he was destined to be. The greatest accomplishment of Neil's life was Kevin's growth (as a person)

Kevin was silent for an endless minute, then said, "You should be Court." And the way Kevin found in Neil someone who shared the same passion as him. The way he flew all the way to him to make sure that he signed that contract. The way he fought for him, and promised everyone that Neil would be a star because he truly believed he would. The way he dedicated his time and focus to train Neil, but he never pushed him as hard as Tetsuji had pushed him. How when he found out Neil was Nathaniel he begged him to leave, and run and survive, because he didn't care just about Neil's career, he cared about Neil. And when Neil said no, and decided to stay and let himself be killed in less than a year, oh how heartbroken Kevin was. All the dreams and expectations he had for Neil, destroyed, but even worse, having to accept that the person who understood him the best in the whole world, his friend and student, would soon have a horrible death. But then Neil survived, and he made the deal with Ichirou, and they had orders to make it to Court, and become stars, and play as hard and for as long as they could together. The greatest accomplishment of Kevin's life was Neil's growth (as a player)
