The modder argument is a fallacy.
We've all heard the argument, "a modder did it in a day, why does Mojang take a year?"
Hi, in case you don't know me, I'm a Minecraft modder. I'm the lead developer for the Sweet Berry Collective, a small modding team focused on quality mods.
I've been working on a mod, Wandering Wizardry, for about a year now, and I only have the amount of new content equivalent to 1/3 of an update.
Quality content takes time.
Anyone who does anything creative will agree with me. You need to make the code, the art, the models, all of which takes time.
One of the biggest bottlenecks in anything creative is the flow of ideas. If you have a lot of conflicting ideas you throw together super quickly, they'll all clash with each other, and nothing will feel coherent.
If you instead try to come up with ideas that fit with other parts of the content, you'll quickly run out and get stuck on what to add.
Modders don't need to follow Mojang's standards.
Mojang has a lot of standards on the type of content that's allowed to be in the game. Modders don't need to follow these.
A modder can implement a small feature in 5 minutes disregarding the rest of the game and how it fits in with that.
Mojang has to make sure it works on both Java and Bedrock, make sure it fits with other similar features, make sure it doesn't break progression, and listen to the whole community on that feature.
Mojang can't just buy out mods.
Almost every mod depends on external code that Mojang doesn't have the right to use. Forge, Fabric API, and Quilt Standard Libraries, all are unusable in base Minecraft, as well as the dozens of community maintained libraries for mods.
If Mojang were to buy a mod to implement it in the game, they'd need to partially or fully reimplement it to be compatible with the rest of the codebase.
Mojang does have tendencies of *hiring* modders, but that's different than outright buying mods.
Conclusion
Stop weaponizing us against Mojang. I can speak for almost the whole modding community when I say we don't like it.
Please reblog so more people can see this, and to put an end to the modder argument.

Summary of Minecraft Live Mob Vote and 1.21(?) Update
Mob vote:
The armadillo won, so congrats to everyone who was hoping for that!
The crab came second and the penguin came third but from the mix of opinions I've seen it was likely a pretty close one!
Upcoming update:
Since previous years have focused so much on crafting elements, they wanted to turn their attention more towards adventuring this year. Much like last year though, they wanted to introduce the features coming up in the near future today and announce others as the next year continues.
It's also the 15th anniversary of Minecraft next year, so that's pretty exciting!
Trial Chambers are being introduced! They were described as multi-room structures that encourage combat and adventuring. Inside, there were corridors leading to chests and challenges. They're also randomly generated for ultimate replayability.
A new spawner's being introduced for these chambers called a Trial Spawner. These vary in mob and loot quantity depending on how many players are planning to fight, and have a cooldown period afterwards so you can keep using them rather than destroying them when you're done. It also looked like the floor surrounding them might be decorated differently depending on what mob is spawning!
Speaking of mobs, there's a new hostile one called The Breeze! It uses the wind to hit players but doesn't deal damage unless it collides directly with something. The team described it as "very playful in combat" and they can interact with trapdoors, so should definitely make the combat experience more interesting!
Along with the chambers come some new blocks! There are now new stone patterns, some new decorative copper blocks and copper bulb blocks, which will dim the more they oxidise! These blocks all appear to be present in the Trial Chambers.
Outside of all of this, they're also introducing automated Crafters and toggleable slots! This means you can make crafting recipes really easy to repeat and they can be shared amongst players. Enjoy, redstoners!

TBH I don't really understand the hostility people have with the next Minecraft update. Wasn't the whole thing they aren't going to reveal much due to the backlash of having to split up Caves & Cliffs and some of the concepts not being in the finale update. Plus, the stuff shown was still interesting (new copper & tuff blocks, new hostile mob that has interesting mechanics, new structure for loot, automatic crafting). Also, it should be mentioned that they point out how Minecraft's 15th anniversary is next year, and I feel like they'll likely put something the community considers a "full-sized" update then.

Vote Crab At Minecraft Live!
The crab is the best choice for two reasons
The Armadillo and Penguin's additions are more situational, for the Armadillo you need a wolf and you need to be taking it with you everywhere for it to be useful, for the Penguin, you need to be in a boat and be near where penguins spawn for it to be useful
Crabs are the cutest

Good job armadillo voters! I'm a bit sad but at the end of the day it doesn't really matter to me lol

My notes from Minecraft Live 2023
Scribbled down very quickly as they were announced. Putting them behind a cut, as they're fairly long:
Theme: Combat, adventuring, and tinkering (no update name yet)
Minecraft is 15 yrs old next year
Test your skills in some new trials
New big multiple room structure called the Trial Chambers
New blocks
copper
tuff bricks and other tuff blocks
lamps
copper door
copper grates
copper bulbs (lamps that get dimmer as they oxidise; scrape them to brighten them again)
chiselled copper blocks?
trial spawner (has copper corners and details) - drops rewards
the one they found spawns strays, another spawned the new mob (the Breeze)
spawns a limited amount of mobs compared to a normal spawner
rewards based on number of players
smoking = cooldown (Update: corners and details on the spawner are lit up when it's live and dull when it's on cooldown)
CRAFTER - AUTOMATED CRAFTING
automate crafting with redstone
toggleable slots so it makes the same recipe
THE BREEZE
new mob
playful hostile mob, jumps around and uses wind blasts
wind charge deals damage when it collides with something
interacts with certain blocks like buttons and trapdoors and dispensers
grumpy little whirlwind, challenging to fight
Features shown today will come in the coming weeks. More features announced through the development process. One thing not mentioned was that, on the set, there were cat banners behind Lydia and Agnes, but they weren't mentioned yet.
Mob vote winner: Armadillo

WHY YOU SHOULD VOTE FOR THE ARMADILLO
DOG ARMOR - Armadillos drop scutes used to make dog armor. We need dog armor, it’s been too long
PENGUINS ARE USELESS - They just make your boat go faster, which dolphins already do.
CRABS ARE USELESS - They help you place blocks farther away, which you can simply do by moving a little closer.
ITS CUTE - Armadillos are adorable and curl up into a little ball <3333
ITS IN THE SAVANNAH - Savannahs are boring biomes (imo) and adding an armadillo would make it so much more appealing.
