In response to the Monster Hunter Wilds teaser video that came out yesterday. For those who know me, I love fluffy birbs fluffing. I wonder what Capcom will call it? The Palakeet?

I know this wouldn`t be to everyone taste, but i personally hope mh wilds use the open world format to expand upon the tracking and explorations elements of the series. Have the large monsters be more rare, requiring players to go on long journeys to find them, kind of like those parts of shadow of the collosus where you quietly travel the land in search of the next boss. To go with that, id like if the large monsters had very detailed interactions with small monsters and their environnements, both during and outside of the fight. Similarly, elder dragons should be affecting the weather and mess up the ecosystems, wherever they go.

Monster Preemptive Review: Pangospines
Tumblr media
I’ve decided I’m gonna give a stab at trying to do a sort of preview rating for some of the creatures in the new Wilds trailer because I’m damn excited about this, and I really want to talk about them! I’ve nicknamed these thing Pangospines, because look at ‘em. That’s a huge pangolin with knives.
Tumblr media
So the first thing I want to talk about before the actual creatures themselves is the massive numbers they seem to gather in. This seems like a huge opportunity to me to create a system around pack abilities or behaviors, maybe with the positions and actions of the group being portents for things like the apparent extreme weather, a powerful predator, or maybe even whether it’s safe to approach the herd. I also think the spines likely have some level of group dynamic relevance, with adult males of high status probably being the ones with the largest spines of the group. With how many seem to not have any at all that would imply a far more harem-style social structure, with a few bull males, their females and their kids, kinda like most primate colonies.
Tumblr media
The last thing that NEEDS to be addressed is the seemingly lightning-rod properties of their spines, with this one in the trailer being struck and seemingly unharmed. This is interesting because of the far larger spines dotted around the landscape, and can either imply the ones on the backs of Pangospines (I love calling them that oh my god) are possibly unnatural, or that some strange animal (probably not geological or weather feature) created the massive ones on the map. Either way, this could also provide some extra intrigue, as trying to escape a smaller large monster like a Great Jaggi or maybe even Barroth might be way easier by diving into the swarm of probably defensive animals, but in weather conditions probably super dangerous with how the large Pangospines seem to attract lightning. A lot of this depends on how detailed the weather and social patterns will actually be in the final game, but I can definitely hope!
Rating: preemptive 8.8/10
I forgot to talk about my opinion on their design, didn’t I?

Man, I'm SO FUCKING HYPED for Monster Hunter Wilds! Yes, the teaser didn't show much, but it's enough to speculate, and I can't wait to know more!
As some of you might remember, I had to skip MH World when it released because I didn't have access to a platform that could play it, and I regret it to this day. I later got to play it (and Iceborne) on a borrowed PS4 but I didn't get to do much other than play through the main story, and I never had the chance to play online, so even though I scratched the itch, I missed on a lot of cool stuff.
I don't want that to happen again. I want to play MH Wilds "properly", so if this thing doesn't release for Nintendo's next console (let me dream), I'm getting a PS5 (there are a couple other PS4/PS5 games I wouldn't mind trying after all). Or maaaaaaybe I'll get a gaming PC but I seriously doubt it. 2025 is still very far away, though, so anything can happen.
But! About the game itself! It looks so fucking good! It looks kinda open world-ish which isn't necessarily what I was hoping for, but I fully trust the MH team as they've never disappointed me so far. I love the abundance of small monsters and wildlife we see, and what seems to be a very dynamic weather system (that sand/dust thing is interesting... maybe an Elder Dragon is behind it?).
Oh and the new mount is absolutely adorable! And incredibly mobile too! I love the little guy so much, I need to know how it's called! The only thing I don't like is that this probably means Palamutes won't return, which makes me a sad wolf, but oh well. As long as we can dress up our cool raptor buddy, I'm happy. Palicoes better return though!
It'll be a long wait, but I'm sure it'll be worth it. I guess I can keep playing Sunbreak in the meantime. :P

MONSTER HUNTER WILDSSSS
The fauna seem so different I suspect it's a whole other continent again, super isolated, because even New World had species that remained after a migration of sorts. Or is this a game set further back in time? We've always had dino-like fauna but this seems to be the majority
OHHHh my wishlist rn is Dalamadur, Ahtal-Ka, Jhen Mohran, Nakarkos
Looking at the Logo, it seems we could have a Snake Elder Dragon on our hands, the multiple noodles though makes me think we could have a potential hydra. Though the loops make me think Ouroboros. Or,, perhaps a Multi-dragon fight? Like a pack boss fight? One or two large ones and many underlings?
We gon be hypin straight through to 2025
