Vesti to make F1 practice debut for Mercedes at Mexican GP | 2023 Mexico City Grand Prix
Formula 2 title contender Frederik Vesti will make his debut in a Formula 1 race weekend by driving for Mercedes in practice at the Mexican Grand Prix. Vesti, who is part of Mercedes’ junior team, is expected to take over George Russell’s car for the first practice session. He drove a modern F1 car for the first time last year, when Mercedes called him up for the official post-season test at the Yas Marina circuit. All 10 teams are required to hand each of their cars to an inexperienced driver in at least one practice session over the course of the season. No team has publicly nominated any drivers for this yet, although rookie Nyck de Vries fulfilled the requirement for one of AlphaTauri’s cars at the season opener as he had yet to exceed the maximum limit of two grand prix starts. Vesti tested for Mercedes in Abu Dhabi last year The 21-year-old Danish racer is in his second season in F2. He spent ten races at the top of the standings before missing last weekend’s feature race at Spa-Francorchamps after crashing on his way to the grid. So far he has taken four wins and one pole position in 2023. Mercedes began backing Vesti’s career at the start of 2021, after he finished fourth in his rookie season of FIA Formula 3. Vesti finished in the same position in his sophomore campaign, taking one win, then in his rookie F2 year he also won a race and took a pole. He trails Theo Pourchaire by 12 points with six races remaining. If Vesti wins the title he would not be allowed to stay in the series next year. F1 Fanzone
Tumblr media
Mexico City boroughs will have a "F1 Fanzone" to watch the 2023 Mexican Grand Prix. The Mexican Grand Prix is getting closer, and Formula 1 enthusiasts are about to experience the excitement of the F1esta at the Hermanos Rodriguez Autodrome in Mexico City. For the 2023 edition, the event will take place on Friday, October 27, Saturday, October 28, and Sunday, October 29. Checo Pérez, the Mexican driver, will aim to surpass his performance from 2021 at the Qatar Grand Prix.
Tumblr media
Due to the surge in interest generated by Sergio Pérez's participation with Red Bull Racing in recent years, it has become increasingly common to see fans of Checo Pérez on the streets of the capital. However, not all of them have had the opportunity to see him race live. But that situation may be about to change. As part of a project led by the organizers of the Mexican Grand Prix, in collaboration with the government of some Mexico City boroughs and GNP, this year, a space will be designated for all F1 fans who do not have a ticket for the 2023 Mexican GP at the racetrack to watch the race live. This space will be called F1 Fanzone GNP Living is Amazing. The 2023 Mexican Grand Prix will be held on October 27, 28, and 29.
Where will the F1 Fanzone for the 2023 Mexican Grand Prix be located?
According to a statement published on the official Mexican GP website, there will be different F1 Fanzones, which will be separate from the facilities of the Hermanos Rodriguez Autodrome; in other words, they will be located in different Mexico City boroughs. Seven boroughs will have this space so that F1 fans and the general public can have a first-hand experience of the F1esta at the Mexican Grand Prix.
The boroughs that will have the special fan zone are as follows:
Álvaro Obregón Benito Juárez Gustavo A. Madero Iztacalco Iztapalapa Miguel Hidalgo Venustiano Carranza There will be simultaneous spaces with live broadcast of the practices, qualifications, and the grand race on Sunday. Additionally, they will have a giant screen, photo opportunities, and other decorative F1 elements for fans to enjoy this major sporting event. The screens will be located in the squares and cultural centers of each borough. Here are the exact locations of the F1 Fanzones by borough. Álvaro Obregón: Canario Street corner with 10th Street, Tolteca Neighborhood, 01150 Benito Juárez: Municipio Libre Street corner with División del Norte, Santa Cruz Atoyac Gustavo A. Madero: 5 de Febrero Street S/N, Villa Gustavo A. Madero, Gustavo A. Madero, 07050 Iztacalco: Río Churubusco Avenue S/N, Gabriel Ramos Millán Neighborhood, 08000 Iztapalapa: Utopía Meyehualco, located in Santa Cruz Meyehualco, Iztapalapa, 09290 Miguel Hidalgo: Parque Lira Avenue 94, Observatorio Neighborhood, 11860 Venustiano Carranza: Francisco del Paso Y Troncoso 219, Jardín Balbuena Neighborhood, 15900 In 2021 and 2022, Checo secured third place in the Mexican Grand Prix.
Schedule and Costs of the F1 Fanzone Mexican GP 2023
Unlike the expensive tickets to have a seat at the racetrack, this fan zone will be completely free since it is aimed at all types of audiences. There will be no cost or price to enter this fan zone. However, the event organizers recommend arriving early to secure a good seat. Because they expect a large number of fans, the earlier you arrive, the better chance you have of getting a good spot. It's also important to consider that it will be an outdoor event. The fan zones in the Mexico City boroughs will open at 9:00 AM and will operate until 6:00 PM; they will be in operation from Friday, October 27, to Sunday, October 29, the race day.

Red Bull completes showrun with Perez in Madrid
Red Bull completes showrun with Perez in Madrid By Balazs Szabo on 16 Jul 2023, 22:29 Red Bull Racing staged a showrun in Madrid, the capital and most populous city of Spain with Sergio Perez completing three demo runs behind the wheel of title-winning Red Bull F1 cars. Reigning world champion team Red Bull used the "free" weekend between the British and the Hungarian Grands Prix to conquer the streets of Madrid to showcase two of their previous title-winning F1 machines. Sergio Perez was behind the wheel of the RB7 and RB8, driving around several of Madrid's famous landmarks. Running two of Sebastian Vettel's championship winning cars, the showrun ended with the Mexican pulling out donuts in front of the famous Cibeles Fountain, as over 85,000 fans attended the event. Madrid is the fifth city in which Perez drove previous Red Bull cars in a showun. In 2021, he burnt rubber in the streets of Mexico City while last year saw the Mexican drive in his hometown of Guadalajara. He’s also taken to the tarmac of Milton Keynes, home to Red Bull and Dallas, Texas. Commenting on his day, Perez said: “It was amazing to see the crowd here today and how passionate the people of Madrid are about Oracle Red Bull Racing and Formula One. People are super happy to see us, we are the only team who can make events like this possible, only Red Bull can shut down the busiest streets of Spain’s capital city on a Saturday night! Not many people know but Madrid is a second home to me, the vibe here is very unique and special, although I am not at home, I really feel like I am here. "This was such a fun evening and now I am looking forward to being back behind the wheel of the RB19 to get my season back on track, I want to get back to winning and score as many points as possible before the summer break, we have some important races coming up.” Alongside the showrun completed by Perez, fans had the opportunity to enjoy an exhibition from Elias Hountondji, a member of the Red Bull Driftbrothers, and Cristina Gutiérrez, the 2021 World Rally Cross Raids champion and the first woman to achieve a victory in the Dakar Rally since Jutta Kleinschmidt. Madrid has served as the first location of the F1 Exhibition which opend its doors back in March. Although the exhibition was set to close in mid-July, it has been extended until 20 August. The Spanish capital has also expressed its will to stage a Formula One race in the near future. Currently, the Spanish Grand Prix takes place in Barcelona with the contract running until 2026. Jose Vicente de los Mozos, President of Madrid’s event committee, has recently stated that he knows "when the agreement for the arrival of F1 in Madrid is going to be signed." It is not known whether Madrid will take over the place of Barcelona or it will run as Madrid GP with Barcelona continuing to host the Spanish Grand Prix. via F1Technical.net . Mexico City Grand Prix Review
It was all about Lap 1 of the Grand Prix really, as it was so hard to overtake after that, and the pendulum kept swinging in what has been an incredible season of F1!
In hindsight, Red Bull should have been pleased to lock out the 2nd row of the grid in qualifying, as if they had got pole, with their lack of straight line speed, they surely would have been swamped down to Turn 1. Instead, though, it was Max who got the perfect slipstream, and out braked the Mercedes to get the lead. From then on, there was no stopping him, as he had the best pace by far out there. It is crazy to think that Verstappen is actually starting to dominate the championship, and if Baku and Hungary had gone differently, the title could be almost wrapped up! Perez drove his heart out, and did very well to pressurise Hamilton, but the dirty air was too much for him in the end. I am glad that Checo has turned a corner with the car, which has helped the team massively in the constructors’ standings. Even better, was seeing him on the podium at home, a well deserved one for a fan favourite driver.
It turns out it was a blip for Red Bull on Saturday, but you cannot write the rollercoaster of emotions that occurred in the Mercedes garage over those few days. The dejection of practice, and seemingly being nowhere, to all of a sudden get one over the rivals, and look to have a chance at the win, then for it all to go wrong in the 1st kilometre of racing, and lose even more points to Red Bull. They just lacked downforce all weekend it seems, as their straight line speed was mega, yet it was outweighed massively in the 2nd and 3rd sector. The season isn’t over; however, Mercedes needs to get winning soon to stop their run of titles ending! Lewis did what you expect of him really, by maximising what he had, and withstood the pressure from Perez. You have to feel for Bottas, who was brilliant in qualifying, for it all to come to nothing in the race, and be stuck behind the guy who took him out, for most of the race.
This race showed that AlphaTauri should at least be near to the battle for 3rd in the constructors, if they had got their act together sooner, and if Tsunoda had been able to deliver on his promise better. No one could lay a glove on Gasly in the race, as he continues to excel in F1. They were helped by the Honda being brilliant at altitude this weekend, although that car is clearly great overall too! Yuki was unlucky to get hit on Lap 1, especially given his pace all weekend.
Ferrari pretty much did what they set out to do in Mexico, as they surged ahead of McLaren, and build further towards 2022. Sainz got unlucky with the Turn 1 spin, in that he fell behind Leclerc, and had to use team orders to get by and try to attack Gasly, which came to nothing in the end. Ferrari do look like the favourites now for 3rd place.
It was an unfortunate mistake for Ricciardo to make into the 1st corner, as he locked up on the inside and ploughed into Bottas. It completely ruined all the good work he had done over the weekend, and should arguably have been a penalty. Norris did a solid job to fight from the back to score a point, but it was peanuts compared to their rivals!
Age was clearly on their side in this race, as the older statesmen of Vettel, Alonso and Raikkonen all managed to come away from here with points. They all had great pace, and weren’t holding anyone up, which for the Alfa Romeo is great news, given their toils this year. Alonso was able to go a race without causing any track limits controversy, which is equally impressive! Vettel was able to use the overcut to his advantage, as Giovinazzi got stuck behind traffic following his pitstop, which utterly ruined his race! Ocon and Stroll couldn’t reach the points from their lowly starting spots.
Haas had another difficult weekend, with Mick not able to keep up the promise he showed on Friday, before being taken out in Turn 1 in the race. As for Williams, they were nowhere too, which is unexpected for the team who have done so well on occasions this year! Can Brazil be a different story?
Sadly, we didn’t get a stunner on our return to the Mexican capital, however there is a better chance of some action at the iconic Interlagos circuit, and with the final sprint race of the year happening there, who knows what could happen! Can Max and Lewis keep their 100% record up, of coming together on the Sunday after the Sprint race?
