just think it’s a little funny that whenever the anfield crowd is good, it’s ’aww yeah the local lads really doing bits!’ and then when it’s shit, it’s ‘aw bloody hell the tourists are at it again’ with literally no evidence to either point. foreign fans aren’t ’tourists,’ you’re just lucky to have been born in the city, and in turn have access to games. plus, i’m sure some of those foreign fans have more familial connection to the club/city than most non-scouse English fans, but you’ll never hear people saying ‘the londoners are ruining the atmosphere,’ will you?
there’s a difference between tourists and foreign fans, but that’s so often ignored in the media and in fan circles. hate to say it, but it really just feels like an extension of the whole ‘foreigners are ruining native British culture!’ bullshit
Liverpool’s easily the most tolerant city in the country, and as someone who comes from a very scouse family, and spent summers there for almost my whole life, i can understand the natural urge to protect a club so central to the city’s identity. but claiming all the problems are due to a perceived foreign boogeyman is just not the real issue. if you want something to be mad at, there’s plenty- ticket hikes pricing working-class fans (from any background, scouse or otherwise) and attracting people with money and no real interest in the game, etc etc.
‘tourists,’ in footy terms, can be English, too- hell, they can be scouse. it’s not about where you’re from, but the passion you have for the club and the team. if you’re going to a game just for the sake of going, you may be a tourist, but if you’re going because you care about the team, the club, and the fan culture, you’re a fan. doesn’t matter where you’re from.

One submitter commented, “I'm from there and I never see it mentioned when talking about England ^v^ despite the whole Beatles thing”
Another commented simply, “Beatles”

ticket prices increased by a quid and supporters groups are angry. genuinely curious how they think that a 2% increase after ticket prices were frozen for ~7 years is unfair, and so unfair to the point that they’ve decided to not have any flags at the kop end in the game this week. a 2% price increase is more than fair when other teams are jacking it up by 10-15%. right now, the team needs all the help from fans they can get and while working class supporters groups will always be the backbone of the club it is just unreasonable to expect no minor price changes to adjust for inflation and cover staff wages.
