‘Tis a Xia and a Mercy.
She likes watching movies while I write. She loves Independence Day and Cold Mountain, because those are the two I have had on repeat for the past week.
Ugh. Her poor eyes. We just started her on antibiotics for her congestion, and ointment for her eyes. (Putting ointment on a kitten’s eyes is HARD guys)

Kittens can SCREAM or Hanzo, leave Mercy alone!
I had to put Hanzo and Genji in time out in their kennel. I am hoping Mercy is recovered enough from her scare to come out of hers, I left the door open, but she is cowering in the back of it.
See, Hanzo and Genji are “typical” kittens. They’re playful. Full of energy.
Mercy? Someone hurt my poor little skin and bones baby and if I ever find out who I WILL FREAKING END THEM. She is so scared of everything and so shy.
But she will let you know if someone has given her a heart attack and she is scared and/or mad.
Hanzo and Genji were running around the condo, being little psycho energetic balls of fluff. Genji was climbing up everything and bounding from the top of a box pile to the top of another box pile a food away, so on so on. Hanzo sticks more to the ground, but he and Genju stalk each other and then pounce.
Mercy? Her kennel door has been open for hours, but she refuses to leave it. See, she has glaucoma. Both eyes. She is a little pile of bones and fur and seems afraid to even go to her food and water dishes.
She had finally, FINALLY stepped out of her kennel and was investigating the outer perimeter, sticking really close to it, and only taking a step every five minutes. I relaxed, thinking she would be fine with a little time, and turned back to my computer for more Job Search Time.
Then I hear this ungodly scream the scares the absolute crap out of me. I spin around. Hanzo, who had been playing with Genji on the other side of the room, had zipped across the room and jumped onto Mercy.
She was terrified. Pressed against the wall of her kennel, hissing, ears back, shaking so bad. Hanzo jumped back, and looked so confused. “Why are you mad, Mercy? It is play time!”
I bolt over, scoop up Hanzo and put him on the other side of the kennel, then scoop up Mercy, who is shaking so badly. She hisses at me. I get her calmed down with about ten minutes of cuddles, during which I have learned that hands coming from above are NOT OK and I must let her see my hands before moving them around to the side to pet her. Sudden movements are also out. I eventually put her back in her kennel. Almost immediately, Hanzo is there, sitting by her water dish, reaching out to play with her, and then Genji comes over, and she is crouching in the back of her kennel hissing and screaming and... My poor baby girl.
So Hanzo and Genji are in time out. They’ve been out playing for several hours now, and Mercy needs some time outside of the kennel.
I am so worried the Mercy is going to need to be the only cat in her forever home. And my heart just hurts for her and whatever she went through before the shelter and then the rescue got her. So I am going to give her lots of love and cuddles and feed her until she is plump and floofy and weighs two pounds so we can get her spayed, and then find people who will understand her gentle nature and that she is Scared, and will love her so much no matter what.
And don’t worry about the boys. I’m going to do the same for them too.
