"Today, Jigen, Goemon, and Fujiko threw me a surprise birthday party.
At first I was confused, I'm sure everyone knew that I didn't have a birthday, until I remembered the time I lied to Fujiko and told a random date so she would stop nagging me about it. If I knew she'd take it that seriously I would've zipped my mouth.
I'm unfamiliar with how birthday parties work, but I think this one was more… exciting than the usual. Goemon botched the cake. He put some mystery ingredient that ruined the taste. Fujiko almost stole my gifts, which was foiled when Zenigata and Melon Cop were caught trying to burn the house down. He won't even give me a break on my birthday!
After we chased them off, I had to put out the fire. Jigen did not help and kept playing with that stupid blower thing.
Normally this would be a failure of a party, but I enjoyed it for some odd reason. I hope they do something like this next year, with a better cake..!"
- Lupin
Working on a Jigen/Melon fic and decided to doodle up concepts to try and get a feel for how the characters might have looked when they were a bit younger.
Chapter 8 of Shin Lupin III, “186 Lupins” is so funny for some reason like it’s another story where Lupin just screws over Zenigata for an entire chapter and you just watch from Zenigata’s perspective as everything falls apart while he figures out what’s going on.
I like how in the original text he calls Jigen and Goemon “goldfish shit.”
Melon Cop appearance !!!!
I really like Zenigata being able to have partners of his own. These two kinda hate each other but I like how they compete to get Lupin sometimes. He doesn’t stay for the entire manga unfortunately but it’s probably because he’s not as obsessed with Lupin as Zenigata is.
There was a chapter in the original manga that played with the idea of Zenigata having a partner but it’s really funny how Monkey Punch just admits he wrote it poorly with Zenigata questioning what his partner even adds to the chapter.
The original text has Zenigata say that they haven’t created a computer that can predict Lupin’s actions yet. This is foreshadowing Zenigata’s later partner, Sherdock, who uses the new security computer Watson to predict Lupin’s every move.
I gotta admit Tokyopop actually made me laugh with this one.
I like how everyone throws away their disguise but Goemon keeps the hat. They’re so happy here.
I think one of the funniest options for bringing back a Lupin III character for One Installment Only would be to have both Detective Melon from the manga AND Inspector Melon from Part 2. And it never gets explained
