#mehrunes razor

There's a famous account of how you lost possession of Mehrunes' Razor but how did you acquire it in the first place? What did you want it for?
Ah yes, the blasted Razor of Dagon. An artifact of immense value and importance that I loathe to have lost. Thank you for that reminder. Though, I’m sure you’re referring to the story with the acrobats? Pure fiction, as anyone with a modicum of common sense might have suspected. What Magister worth his robes simply leaves an artifact like that unprotected and lying out in the open? But that was not your question.
How I attained the Razor is remarkable in its own right, simply due to how unremarkable it really was. If you know the history of Mehrunes’ Razor, then I’m sure you’ve noticed a pattern over time. The thing seems to have a mind of its own, as many Daedra-forged artifacts do. But the Razor in particular does not stay in the hands of one owner for long. I believe this is due to the nature of its master.
I had come into a disagreement with a pesky young upstart in the House, (not that damnable Gothren, but another equally impotent bastard skulking around Molag Amur and amassing too much power for my liking), and in order to secure my position as Magister, he had to be dealt with. I recruited a modest contingent of battlemages to storm his settlement only to find it razed to the ground upon arrival. The mystery behind the ordeal was never solved, but in sifting through the charred remains of his tower, I found a peculiar shortsword, untouched by the destruction. I immediately had my suspicions as to the sword's origin, later proved correct.
It wasn’t that I wanted the Razor, for I do not believe that is how one comes to possess it. Moreso, the blade came to me. The spheres of Mehrunes Dagon are of no great interest to me personally. War, destruction, revolution… However, ambition I could understand and sought to unlock this particular aspect of the weapon's potential. I do not trifle with Daedric artifacts lightly. I held onto the Razor for a great many years, experimenting and testing its limitation, attempting to discover how to use it without allowing it to use me in return. Of course, as I have since learned, it is nigh an impossible task, and I was foolish enough at the time to think myself the exception to the Razor's usual plots. Though I can’t help but feel as though I was incredibly close to a breakthrough…

Oblivion Group
Tumblr media
Something I planned on finishing for a ref but I did that that where I put too much effort into the sketch layer and now have zero motivation to do the lineart layer
Ignoring that, though! I drew this not long after I’d finished my first playthrough of Oblivion! God a little story idea going on, maybe I’ll write it — it’s not super high priority though as I’ve already got TDI to focus on.
Still, though, in the main trio we have Glarthir (yes I’ve latched onto him that hard, his quest makes me so fuckin sad), Sweetheart (my HoK who misses his girlfriend), and ofc Martin (yes that is Mehrunes’ Razor. I thought it’d be funny).
Glarthir and Sweetheart are most often seen traveling together while Martin hangs back in Cloud Ruler Temple, but there are many missions where Martin is able to sneak away and come along with them. Glarthir, despite his build, insists on being a heavy fighter. His “battleaxe” is really just a waraxe made for orc warriors much bigger than him. He at first got it for home protection, but now carries it around as his weapon of choice on travels. He can cast magic, but just. Really. Likes the axe. He’s also supposed to have antlers, but I had drawn this before I made that headcanon for him.
Sweetheart is the speediest of the three, and prefers a type of “gun and run” tactic. He holds a powerful shock spell that he lovingly named “Heart Attack” that damages on touch. His nimbleness allows him to slip away before the enemy can get a counter hit on him. He’s also a thief, though much prefers to steal in plain sight than try and sleuth around (he was the distraction while his girlfriend was the sneak, before the Crisis separated them). He wears glass armor stylized like actual glass pane artwork. Bc that’s cool.
Martin is much less of a fighter compared to the other two, but does do his best to play defense. He and Sweetheart shake hands about always getting asked “are you alright?” due to their Resting Wet Cat Faces, and they’d much rather talk their way out of a situation than fight through it. Sweetheart, with the best of intentions, raided a Mythic Dawn encampment for the Razor specifically to bring it back to Cloud Ruler to gift it to Martin. Jauffre and Baurus were… less than stoked. The very weapon that killed Uriel Septim and many emperors beforehand—quite literally dubbed the “Kingslayer”—was not a very good gift to give to the last remaining emperor. Martin thought otherwise, and uses it for defense against Daedra (due to it’s unique ability to instantly banish Daedra with one cut). He has is wielding arm completely armored to protect against any accidental nicks, for it’s other unique ability involves producing a wound tenfold the damage of the actual cut.

My Mehrunes' razor! Not 100% same as in the game sadly but I'm not as great at sculpting lol. Made our of air dry clay and some painter's tape for the handle :) I know it's missing the ornate pointy things on the end of the handle but they keep falling off hah

My collection of razors is as follows:
Hanlan: never attribute to malice what can be adequately explained by stupidity
Ockham: the most likely solution is most often the correct one
Hank: for anything that can be explained by socio-economic status in society, it's probably that rather than the thing you're measuring
Mehrune: stabstabstabstabstabcutstabstabstabstabstabstabstabstabstabcutstabstabstabstabcutstabstabstabstabstabstabstabstabcutstabstabstabcut

I'm having so much fun working on this whispering door quest rework for The Perfect Storm.
It's one thing having the quest as normal - getting the key, taking the Ebony Blade, etc.
But it's a whole other thing trying to dig into some of the complexities that could arise.
And it's just so much fun. I mean, there could be ill-intent behind what Mephala tells Nelkir... Or perhaps, these secrets needed to find the right person to act upon them. To open up communication, yet to tangle together lives and relationships in a way that cannot be undone. And the uncovering of those ties could very well lead to the death of everyone involved. There's no clean way to get out of it. The only way to get out - relatively unscathed - is to keep that secret quiet until you die. But that's if you can keep it.
I have no idea if this makes sense but it made sense to me as I thought it...

i think i headcanon Sheogorath as a psychotic with MAD pride (or maybe he's anti-recovery, idk not important to me lol.) i would never say that to a nonpsychotic, i just think it would be nice for Us Crazies to have some representation which isnt horror or a pity story :0) his whole thing is being at least kind of charming and loveable, i think we deserve it as a treat

EGO REFERENCE SHEET
//click for better image quality … Time: 8hrs — 23hrs — 8hrs//
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ego is a Breton around 22 years of age (though their exact age is unknown). They are a spellsword specializing in waraxes, conjuration, and shock spells. They awoke in a prisoner’s cart to Helgen one day, unable to remember their past, and not knowledgeable about the world around them. Events, races, cultures, locations, history, and more were completely unknown to them. They travel Tamriel as the Dragonborn, attempting to solve the Dragon Crisis and discover exactly who they are.
They went by the name “Akatosh” for a short while, then “Akat,” and finally “Ego” as their main alias. “Moro” is a persona that they use to mask their Dragonborn visage. Those that know the Dragonborn (besides close friends) do not know the face that lies under the mask. They are part of a ragtag party named “the Masquerade.”
———
I’m attempting to give basic information while still keeping most things spoiler-free, sorry for the confusion! If you’re interested in Ego’s story, be on the lookout for a fic that I plan on starting this year, The Dez Illusion, over on AO3! And also look out for references for the rest of the Masquerade! The process will be slow, but I’m confident in finishing them all eventually :]

do you think mehrune's razor is used in tamriel as a thing in the same vein as occam's razor is in the real world

listen sometimes i watch skyrim lore videos because i find epicnate315′s voice and enthusiasm soothing and today in one of his older videos he mentioned something i had completely forgotten about in-game which is the group of bandits that specifically run a wolf-fighting ring and not to bring back this helnik au written for helnik week 2021 that takes place in the elder scrolls universe (skyrim specifically) but i just need to highlight a few things:
1. this au is actually delicious i might go back to it i love the idea of nina and matthias having to fight all those draugr in sarthaal especially since in tes canon most regular people have no idea that the dead very much do reanimate and try to kill you like, constantly. the idea of nina leading matthias into this at the very least to scare him and then they both get way in over their heads and have to claw their way out.... it pleases me
1.5. actually nina watching matthias use a word wall and having that same rush of jealousy but also kind of being a little awed by it and them having a Moment... also very good
2. trying to figure out how to fit the rest of the crows & grishaverse into tes lore is a fun thing bc i’ve decided only matthias is from skyrim and everyone else has ended up (mostly in riften) out of bad luck- i like the idea of them mostly on matthias’ home turf, bc that’s kind of what they had to do with the ice court but this is on a much bigger and weirder scale
3. just thought of this the crows having to explore dwarven ruins together is thrilling to me
4. the crux of this universe is, of course, that matthias is the dovahkin and how that’s making him reevaluate war and the cost of it and the ideals of “skyrim for the nords” and all of that, but also i do so so very much love the idea of matthias like “uh dragons can wait we gotta go free the wolves” bc wolves don’t actually hold a ton of special significance in skyrim he’s literally just a Wolf Guy and making it everyone’s problem
5. okay also just thought of this but the fact that at some point each crow will end up with a daedric artifact and sort of lowkey have that dremora as a patron now and NONE of them are happy about it.... love that for them
