in between (hiding from) Big Intimidating Projects i am starting my first totally blind playthrough of Star Wars: KOTOR 1 on the Switch. I know nothing about this time period or story, but i'm liking it enough that this miiiight turn into something of a liveblog, if that's of interest to anyone.
Impressions so far, like an hour and a half in:
1. It feels VERY much like proto Mass Effect like you can just tell this is where me1 evolved from (fun fact: i first made this observation BEFORE learning that the cancelled KOTOR 3 was basically repurposed into ME1! You can REALLY feel it. I'm a relatively new Star Wars fan but huge longtime ME fan, and vibes are everywhere. On that note:
1.5 I KNEW THAT WAS KAIDAN'S VA. LOL. that man has mildly annoyed me now in THREE games. (He's better in ME3.)
2. Almost every single line is voiced including total randos which for 2003 would have been insane like I see why people lost their minds over this
3. Was not expecting zombie plague to be Big Quest 1 but I am totally here for it. Also the choice between giving the serum to nice doctor who will cure the planet for free vs. to the crime lord who will charge buckets for it..... *sniff* Ah. Timely.
4. ALSO very unexpected and somehow hilarious to me that "Sith" in this era are like. an actual... organization? culture? they have military bases and casual off-duty soldiers and shit instead of being Just Two reclusive sorcerer weirdos. Shit is SUUUUPER normalized and it's.... well. unsettlingly familiar, I suppose.
5. Ah. An Amnesiac Hero. This CERTAINLY won't lead to any Big Twists. :))))

hello fellow filthy casuals
Hello and welcome to my gaming blog! I’m @singull and this here is where I post all about video game shit. I’m a horrible easy mode player and I’ve hated Anders since playing Awakening lmao.
I primarily play games with stories (RPGs that allow me to make my own protagonist are my top favorites), but I’m also a slut for games that allow me to make a town, settlement, city, what have you…that said I’m not super keen into the management-type games. I just want to make snazzy looking places and watch NPCs roam them.
The Dragon Age series is my main boo that I’m always clowning for, but I also enjoyed Mass Effect, Cyberpunk 2077, and the Final Fantasy games. I also spent more time than I thought I did playing and replaying Grand Theft Auto V lmao. I’m also obsessed with the Devil May Cry series, but I’ve only ever properly played through and finished the fifth game bahaha (thank you YouTube game movies).
Other than the time I invested several years of my life on the first Destiny game, I’m not into online shit. I prefer to play on my own, thank you very much. Destiny really was fucking sweet though and right up my alley for Aesthetics…

So I've killed an endangered plant (possibly the last of it's kind in the universe), released a giant evil(?) shrimp queen into space, and mind melded with 2 different blue women. My companions have each brought a very specific personal vendetta to my attention. Ashley and Liara confronted me immediately after a mission brief about relationship drama asking me to choose between them even though I never even flirted with Ashley??
Not entirely won over by this game yet tbh. The story and aliens are ok but the gameplay is just confusing and boring. Dunno. I'll still give it a chance & will try to finish the game. Sometimes it takes me a little while to warm up to stuff I wind up really liking in the end, so we'll see.

Just got to the "As much as you love your dog, it isn't human" convo with Ashley and got Ashley-is-a-space-racist discourse war flashbacks😂😭
I like to think that in the year 2021 people have better comprehension skills than before but I'm still gonna say it: She's not saying she sees aliens as dogs! She's saying she thinks aliens see humans as dogs! And even implied that she didn't totally blame them for it!

that One conversation with suvi always gets me. its like the one an elven inquisitor has with cassandra kind of. lyssa either agrees with her that there is a higher power or she shuts suvi down. which, neither option is all that appealing.

hrmmm, turning off Mass Effect for a bit. I spent a good bit of time today just piddling around doing side missions and collecting minerals/artifacts from various planets. I’ve skimmed the wiki article for my next main mission (Virmire -- I completed the stuff for the other 3 planets already) and it sounds like a slog...
I think I’ve logged 30 or so hours in the game at this point and I’m still very “meh” about it. It’s not bad, just not really my type of game. I’m keeping in mind the feedback folks have given me & hope once I finish my playthrough I will enjoy 2 a little more.
Some additional rambling/thoughts on ME1 beneath cut~
I hate those damn giant sandworm things!! WHY are they such a popular sci-fi trope?? I know it’s ur fault Dune
I really liked that random vision you get from the Prothean ruin on Eletania where you experience life as a caveman. Very 2001-esque. Kinda wish there were more events like that in the game?
maybe I am just...stupit lmao, but what exactly is Cerberus...I feel like it got mentioned in passing one time and then on a side mission Kaidan was like “This is Cerberus’ doing!! Should have known! >:(” as if it’s a huge plot point. Did I zone out during something important earlier lol
Not super attached to any companions yet, though I’ve done as many personal quests as possible. Usually I take Tali & Garrus on missions & I am romancing Liara.
anyways... will prolly try to play some more in the next few days.
