why do character haters not know how to just...block tags?

The hard thing about liking Getaway as a character is that people are like "why are you mad people hate him, he's literally evil in the text" and it's like. Yeah I get that and I ENJOYED the way he was shown in MTMTE, the problem is that in LL his character got hit with villain degradation/idiot ball and so my beef with his portrayal is that I think it's shitty and underwhelming writing.

But like, it's really hard to debate about that because canon is the basis of the entire analysis, and if your contention of canon is basically "he would not fucking say/do that" then that means a near-complete rejection of canon in favor of headcanon and you can't really "debate" personal opinions in that way.

Anyways, LL Getaway sucked and the most charitable interpretation one could have of how he was written is that he was a victim of JRO needing to wrap up a billion plotlines at once and getting shafted because the mutiny plotline had to resolve really fast. Which is a flaw of LL and a bunch of its characters/plots in general, not me being an "apologist."

my motur experience is just about pairing lyn with as many freaky guys as possible. she did it to herself by trying to fuck skeletor, and beastman's gone. so joking about dragonfucking and weird orko chemistry is all i have left.

i know pairing her with teela isn't ~allowed~ because god forbid it be problematic with the context of past separate iterations instead of recognizing them as the adults they are in this show's context! oh no!

but i also think it's worth noting her preference for reptiles with granamyr translating over to training snake priestess teela lol.

The existence of this Rosaline movie makes me so MAD, because SHE WAS NEVER IN A RELATIONSHIP WITH ROMEO. SHE TOOK A VOW OF CHASTITY, AND SAID THAT SHE WAS JUST GONNA NOT BE IN LOVE.

SHE. REJECTED. HIM.

SHE WAS NEVER INTERESTED IN BEING WITH HIM AT ALL.

And then they just...make a whole movie from her supposed perspective (which is loosely based on a book which...hoo boy we’ll get to that in a second), where the premise is that she’s jealous and wants to break him and Juliet up? That she’s so in love that she has to win him over again? (Also, how do they justify her knowing that they’re together? The entire point is that no one knows Romeo and Juliet are in love?? I know this is an adaptation, but Jesus Christ.)

WHY DID YOU PICK THIS CHARACTER. TO HAVE THIS STORY WITH. THE WHOLE POINT OF HER CHARACTER IS THAT SHE CHOOSES NOT TO BE WITH HIM. THAT’S WHAT OPENS THE DOOR TO HIM MEETING JULIET. IF ROSALINE IS DEEPLY INTO ROMEO, THE ENTIRE PLAY DOESN’T WORK.

Are we saying that she was just “““playing hard to get”””? That she was toying with his heart for fun? That when she told him no, she really meant “yes”?? I THOUGHT WE LEFT THAT BEHIND OVER THE COURSE OF THE LAST DECADE, I THOUGHT WE DECIDED THAT WAS BAD???!!?

Don’t even get me started on the book this is based on, where that general premise is that Rosaline is just an Innocent Average Girl, and her cousin who is Beautiful™ and vOLaTiLeLY uNsTAbLe and cRaZy comes and “takes” her poor unsuspecting boyfriend who is completely blameless for his own terrible behavior away from her while being called a “slut” the whole time. (I doubt much of this carried over into the actual movie, because that’s being billed as an ironic rom-com, and I highly doubt ANYONE would try to make that genre work while keeping this premise 100% intact.)

WHY WOULD YOU EXPAND THIS CHARACTER LIKE THIS. WHY. WE STUDY THIS PLAY IN SCHOOL AS AN EXAMPLE OF LITERARY STRUCTURE AND POETIC LANGUAGE AND FORESHADOWING AND HOW TO WRITE A TRAGIC NARRATIVE AND FOR WHAT. FOR PEOPLE TO NOT TAKE AWAY ANY OF THE INTENDED MEANING FROM THIS PLAY???!?!?!? I AM SCREAMING SO HARD I WILL BREAK THE EARTH’S CRUST UNTIL I AM SUBSUMED INTO HELL.

If you’re going to adapt something, you’ve gotta make it clear that you have some significant understanding of the original work. Retellings are fine! They can even have different functions or deconstruct tropes or be unexpectedly edgy! But it’s 1000% obvious when you don’t have any knowledge or engagement with the source material, and that is a problem. It’s ignorant, it’s lazy, and everyone involved deserves better.

He’s got fairly low empathy, but has made a point to try and make up for that by becoming perceptive and teaching himself what most facial expressions look like and what they mean. Still, he has trouble reading the room and catching onto when someone is hiding their feelings, and sometimes it just goes right over his head if he doesn’t care to look into it.

He technically doesn’t know how to fight, but if he does have to fight, he fights dirty and like a cornered animal. He has bitten multiple people.

He’s not great at filtering what he says; he curses extremely frequently and can get really nasty with people he hates.

He actually hates interacting with other people and despises the reputation he’s built for himself.

Similarly, his social skills are actually pretty bad. He doesn’t really know how to honestly interact with others since he’s used to defaulting to masking in front of others and mimicking them.

He has polydactyly, with six toes on each foot. They’re all functional and haven’t caused any issues, but it makes it hell for him to find fitting shoes.

He draws a lot and is a pretty good artist in his own right. On the other hand, his handwriting is downright atrocious.

He likes the rain better than any other kind of weather. He gets colds often since he sits out the rain for a little too long, but has a good time with it anyways.

Of the three spirits, he ends up liking Leaf the most, even trusting him a bit.

He’s of Gerudo descent, and has in his possession some old Gerudo books and stories. He can read and even speak a bit of the Gerudo language, and sometimes insults people in it- that way, he avoids retaliation since pretty much no one else knows the language.

I guess my #1 pet peeve for akechi takes (aside from the pervasiveness of fandom pancake akechi, though that's honestly kinda related) is when people scrub him clean of his rough sides & bad personality to focus more on the Prince side. Which there aren't many of those these days (at least from what I've seen), but a few still do exist, and it's just like

We are not looking at the same character. My favorite character of persona 5 is an utter fucking bitch. Even in prince mode, he's passive aggressive as hell. Stop trying to make him all cutesy and sweet. You make me sick.

the real proof that blaze works is that post thats like "do you ever think before you post" "yes i think teehee and then hit post" cause it's not that funny and it's lame af to blaze it but it still has a fuckton of notes cause it managed to get enough to escape the circle of people who knew it was blazed
