ik that max making theatre references when killing ruth in the theatre (i absolutely lost it at him plunging the theatre into darkness then yelling "FIND YOUR LIGHT!") is just a side effect of being a character in a musical (and therefore being written, directed, and acted by theatre nerds) however i choose to believe he's a closet theatre kid because it's funnier that way

⁃ max is the “he asked for no pickles >:(“ one in the relationship. she won’t usually do it unless lucas is allergic tho. he talks her out of it
⁃ her dad took her to see star wars (a new hope) in theatres when it first came out. after that they saw the rest of the trilogy every opening night :)
- she preferred hanleia but her dad liked luke-leia… 2 june 1983 was an unforgettable night aksjsjs
⁃ (btwn s3&4) max would sometimes bunk off school and hang out at family video when she knew robin and steve had a shift together. robin would usually be the one to watch the front desk; steve and max watched movies in the back.
⁃ speaking of, sometimes robin would be the one to hang out with max watching the movie; she’d switch out with steve whenever there was a customer (but that’s rare during school hours)
⁃ max was wary of everyone except steve and the party, so she tried to shut robin out. robin didn’t pick up on maxs social cues; steve had said max was kinda a closed off kid… and she rambled her way into max’s heart, i guess
⁃ so uh. max and robin were JUST starting to form a teeny bond when vecna/season 4 happened. max wrote something little for robin in steve’s letter:(
⁃ she also wrote something little for nancy in steve’s letter
⁃ nancy was the one max went to when the boys got too annoying in mikes basement. sometimes they danced in nancys room, (their favourite song to dance to together is time after time by cindi lauper) sometimes nancy taught her more stuff about makeup…
⁃ max didn’t like the makeup. it was a Bad texture
⁃ nancy lent max lots of books!! she let her keep some too— ones she hadn’t read since she was max’s age
⁃ sometimes will would go quiet in the corner when the boys got distracted from dnd and started talking about some random tangent. max sat with him one time. and that was the start of a legendary friendship
⁃ before she started really pushing everyone away, max would still hang out with lucas, and by extension, erica. erica had one night a week or so after star court where she just freaked out about everything that happened. she found max while looking for lucas, and she just hugged her really tight. max didn’t know what to say, so she just hugged her back. that’s how lucas found them (after he came back from like. the bathroom or something)

⁃ knowing max tho she probably felt extremely vulnerable and scared when she realised she’d fallen asleep there
⁃ lucas has a very stereotypically feminine sneeze. max has a feather duster and a vision
⁃ after they watched annie together, robin sometimes calls her “little orphan annie”
⁃ nancy did the braids max had in the second half of season 4
⁃ “everything i’ve learnt about dnd has been against my will” [but listens to lucas talking about their latest campaign for literal hours]
⁃ trimmed her hair herself in the bathroom mirror. it looked really chunky. steve would not stand for it but she didn’t want to go to a barbers’ (too expensive, and she’d never accept steve’s attempts at paying cause of the guilt) and that’s how steve harrington ended up cutting this freshman girl’s hair
⁃ watched my little pony with erica one time
⁃ i can’t figure out if she’d be a dog person or a cat person. my brain says cat, but my heart says dog.
⁃ robin introduced her to siouxie and the banshees with ‘cities in dust’
⁃ max, half asleep: you’re comfy to lie on:)
lucas, also halfway asleep: i don’t know what you’re talking about…… my abs are rock hard……
⁃ erica has some hand-me-down clothes from max
⁃ max has some hand-me down clothes from nancy and robin
⁃ eddie recognised her as the redhead from the trailer park, and tried to adopt her like he did lucas, mike and dustin. max insisted she didn’t understand dnd. eddie told her she can still sit with them in the cafeteria if she wants!

⁃ max taught herself to skateboard (with a board she found in the garbage) before her parents taught her how to ride a bike
⁃ speaking of riding a bike, when the group goes out on their bikes she will ONLY ride on the back of someone else’s bike if it’s lucas’s
⁃ max sunburns so easily. she’s ginger, this isn’t even a headcanon it’s canon—
⁃ you see, el loves to paint nails. she’ll paint anyones. will? check. joyce? done. hopper? she got him when he was asleep one time. jonathan? he couldn’t say no to her little face. max? of course!! you didn’t even have to ask, el :)!!
⁃ max is proud of her mismatched nail polish. nobody says anything because she just stares them down with a hard stare that she maybe copied from el
⁃ some days she’d just show up at steve’s house for breakfast. he never gets a heads-up, she just appears like a cat does. he makes pancakes every time
⁃ there’s so many candies el hasn’t tried yet. her and max had an afternoon where they tried them all. they did not feel well the next day.
⁃ lucas kisses her forehead. she loves it. then she tells him to stop pretending to be that much taller than her
⁃ el always lets max borrow clothes, since she sleeps over a lot. one time will came to breakfast and saw max in his shirt and jonathan’s old sweatpants. he asked when she borrowed them and she was like “…yesterday? they’re el’s?” and wills like oh of course. in his defence he was very tired that morning
⁃ speaking of sleepovers at the byers, jonathan also makes great pancakes (max always tells steve they’re nothing compared to his, though)
⁃ max uses way too much syrup at the byers’, just cause el does it, and el’s always happy when they’re matching
⁃ max and el have matching scrunchies :)
⁃ after the byers moved away, max would always buy two scrunchies when she’d get a new one; a matching one to give to el. (it was promise to herself that she’d stay alive and see her again.)
⁃ she had two bright pink ones.
⁃ once, she ran into erica after school. erica seemed down; she was having a hard time in middle school. max had just gotten the bright pink ones, so she had them on her. she gave one to erica to try and cheer her up. (erica: are you sure? max, showing off her matching one: yep. now we match :))
⁃ erica told lucas as soon as she got home. it was right after they’d broken up because max was pulling herself away. lucas was kinda just happy that at least max wasn’t shut off from everyone.
⁃ (he also helped erica put the scrunchie in her hair. even though she could do it herself)
⁃ el sent the party all postcards from california; she spent ages picking out which postcard was for which friend. she got one with a californian skatepark on for max
⁃ max wrote back with everyone; she didn’t say much, though.
⁃ she put the postcard right in the centre of her dresser. it lasted for a week; then she got too sad when she looked at it, because california was such a different time in her life and she misses el so badly. she flips the postcard over and shoves it in the corner.
⁃ she starts to find it hard to concentrate on books after the byers leave and everything is getting bad. instead, she starts looking at any old poetry books she can find. they’re from yard sales, hawkins library, her moms old stuff.
⁃ she copies down the ones that remind her of lucas, and slip them in his locker.
⁃ (she stops when they break up.)
