Unexpected Alone Tea Time

The other day some friends stood me up — but I was already on my way to Tokyo. We were actually planning to eat at a small cafe that was located in some kind of traditional looking food court.

Since I was already in the city, I just went to the location anyway. Luckily, I knew there was also a little tea cafe in there as well. So instead of being sad my friends stood me up, I spend some alone quality tea time!

The tea cafe is called Ujien. The menu was nothing too special. Their main thing are mont blancs with different tea and seasonal flavors. They also have matcha and hojicha flavored parfaits and tiramisu and a matcha (like the drink itself). You can pair all of the sweets with a tea set where you can choose between hot sencha, hojicha, iced matcha or even hot matcha for a little extra money.

Since it’s rear to find hojicha flavored sweets, I went for the hojicha parfait paired with an iced matcha. To be honest, it wasn’t the most spectacular parfait I ever had. There was too much cream in it for my taste. But overall it was a lovely parfait with different kinds of textures and flavors – which is the most important thing about a parfait for me. The iced matcha was really tasty though!

Next to the food the atmosphere at that place was really special. As I mentioned it was kind of a traditional looking food court. There were five little stalls in there. Each had a few counter seats, but there were also additional seats in the middle. And for all of that, the building looked soooo tiny from the outside. I was super surprised when I went inside.

Definitely recommend this place! It’s also good to escape the hells of Harajuku's packed streets haha!
